Thanks for the kind words. I try to use simple processes myself and have had good results in my reloading. Seems the most important part for me has been having a barrel that shoots, and using decent quality components!
It was great seeing this type of video. I do also need an annealer. I always thought that it looks like the the AMP Annealer _overheats_ the brass. I trim my brass on a motorized RCBS Trim-Pro. The cutters I use are the tri-way type that chamfer the inside and outside- very fast. It came with the used Dillon XL-650 that I bought from my brother.
Well, I just did a major purchase for a 6mmARC barrel, BCG, Upper, etc. for my AR15 lower. Been looking at all the things I must do to obtain brass. Doing 223 for a while so another step in the evolution. Good video.
Frankford Arsenal trimmer is the bomb! I sized my Grendel brass, set it up in the trimmer, and trimmed 40 cases in less than 10 minutes. took another 5 minutes or so to chamfer and de-burr. Hands didn't get sore. Amazing how consistent my lengths were. I don't hold stock in FA. I've trimmed a lot of cases with the Lee cutter/lock stud, it works good but hands are cramping just thinking about trimming anything...let alone trimming from 1.51" to 1.48" (.030) I'm getting old...LOL..
The spec for 6ARC brass is 1.490" -.020", but the spec for the SAAMI chamber is 1.500". I read in a post on accurate shooter where someone said that it can take multiple firings to completely fireform a piece of brass. I was wondering how the brass length after firing of a resized Grendel case compared with that of an actual 6mm ARC case...!?
I can't speak to what happens with the actual 6mm Arc case because I haven't measured those. However with the 6.5 Grendel cases I had to trim them after the original fire forming. I ended up having to trim roughly 7 or 8 thou prior to the 2nd fireing as 6 ARC.
Everytime I run my 6.5 brass thru the Hornadiy dies to resize it they come out crushed .I am adjusting it as I do with all of my other bullet caibers. It just keeps crushing them at the shoullder.
Nice video. Thanks sir. My local academy has 2 packs of 50 - 6.5 Grendel brass. Thought about picking them up. Wonder how well the primer pockets hold up to the 62k psi bolt gun pressures.
Hornady brass gives up after 3-5 firings if loaded high, lapua hold 20 loads. But its 50-50 if you loose the primer or get to thin webbin, had 1 partial case head separation with hornady so now im inspecting them before primers goes bad, just in case.
x39 is to thick walled, you loose alot of case capacity when doing that. Also large primers are not doing any favors on accuracy. Lost about 5 grains of power capacity over my lapua 6.5 grendel brass. But it can be done :)
@@jmkhenka yeah, there's no way you lost 5 grains of capacity. Maybe before it fire formed. Large primers aren't ideal. Just tell me where to get some brass
@@jmkhenka I heard Lapua has least volume when converted. Best if you use American brass and PMC, easier to convert and no "ring" at the base. When converting from 7.62 to 6.5G the loss was 0.7gr. I compared original Hornady to converted PMC and GFL - both had same volume. Will need bigger sample and perhaps 2x fired to get better data. Haven't measured 6mm arc yet.

@@brianmorgan6039 my 6 arc is the best shooting and easiest to load for out of the cartridges I shoot. It hasn't been hard to get single digit SD's and half inch groups regularly. I used my 6 arc in a local long range match out to 1k without issue.
What headspace adaptor are you using, #400? You do know Grendel and ARC use a #350 for a datum point. It doesn't matter that much when comparing your own brass, but when relaying dimensions and info to others it can get confusing .
Yes, I modified one of hornady's bullet comparitors specifically the .28 cal, up to .350 to use as a headspace comparitor. As for any of the refernced data cbto, and headspace numbers shouldn't be followed across the board from one user to another due to manufacturing variance. These are what my numbers are not what your numbers should be. Use your set of comparitors to get your numbers for best results.
@@RobsReloading you may have solved my problem. I've been wanting to do a 6ARC gas gun but haven't been able to find brass or ammo. Why build a rifle I can't get ammo for.
6 ppc trim length is 1.505" per sierra load data, so I only needed to trip roughly 20 thousandths off, to get to 1.485". I just used a standard metal file on the bench and filed it by hand. I gradually filed on the tip of the Lee case length gauge until I was happy with the length. It only took a few minutes of filing/measuring to get it right.
I’ve been shooting 243 for decades, it’s nice to know that companies and pro’s finally agree with me.
I just picked up a Tikka TX3 in 243 with a 1in 8 twist so I can shoot the higher BC bullets a bit flatter at longer range
Right now I can’t find 6 ARC brass anywhere, so I appreciate this video!
Grendel brass is definitely more avail right now. That's why I got into 6 arc because I already had a pile of brass.

I use a forster 3-in-1 trimmer. Love that thing.

When i did this it doesn't seem to bump the shoulder back quite enough..any tips? TIA

It's a standard full length Hornady 6arc die. It's not a bushing die.

So far I have some 6.5 grendel hornady brass, that was fired 1x in my 6.5 grendel, then 2x in my bolt 6arc. So far no issues with primer pockets yet.

Been making mine from x39. I made 50 from grendel and it's a lot easier, but you got to do what you gotta do

Check out my 6mm arc series all groups on my channel are with resized 6.5G brass. So far I have 4 firings on this batch without any issues.

You should leave the brass case in your power trimmer to debut the case.
How did you shorten Lee trimmer? Just picked up savage 6mm arc but no brass available, thanks

Just with a basic metal file and a caliper to measure how much material I wanted to remove.

You can trim and chamfer without pulling it out of you drill.
It's good not to burn the house down.
You are NOT annealing that brass at that speed!!! Do the research!!!
