  • We take one last ride with the Tatra Electric Railway “Comet” vintage locomotive. Our train reverses out of the high level station to gain access to the works branch for a very rare passenger working right into the works complex where we are welcomed by staff who take us on a fascinating tour, to see every day maintenance along with a selection of vintage stock, some of which was being restored to operating condition.
    Track gauge - 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) - Original video taken on 6th July 2018. Tour organised by RTC (Railway Touring Company)

      Hi Tim, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. The guys working in the workshops really love their job and I think they intend to restore some of the older stock back to working order.

    Super video, ako vždy. Veľmi sa mi páčili tie staré stroje EMU 49.001 a EMU 89, pekná práca na oprave a znovuoživení. "Trojča" - EMU 89 už jazdí príležitostné nostalgické jazdy, dúfam že ju bude nasledovať aj EMU 49. A "Papagáj" 477.013 - nádhera.

      Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride and workshop tour. It was nice to see so many of the older trains being restored for use on heritage trains. The Poprad Tatry Railway system is a real gem, that few people outside Slovakia are aware of.

      Hi Roy, I am an engineer, I always find workshops interesting, especially the old milling machines and lathes, they are similar to the ones I learnt my trade on. Right now I am working on my CNC Mill, to replace a broken bearing and some worn nylon collars. The staff at the workshop were really nice people, they enjoyed showing us around as much as we enjoyed being shown around.

    Thanks tim for another great vid,Are all the old engine's and rolling stock in the yard are they going to be restored,At 15-36 is that a 5 or 10 cylinder mercedes engine,When are we going to see the longreach adventure cheer'bob.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  5 років тому

      Hi Robert, our guides said they hoped to restore some of the stock to working order. From looking at other views of the engine it looks like a "V" arrangement, so I would guess it is either 8 or 10 cylinders. This is the last day of our Slovakia tour, maybe another 3 or 4 videos to come, then I will switch to Brisbane and the trip to Longreach. There simply aren't enough hours in the day.
