Was just looking at Dad’s Coleman 530 B46. I remember him melting lead on it ans casting bullets when I was a kid. I’m 66 now. Miss him, but that stove and his old falling axe seem like a connection.

Thank you for this great video. Just picked one up at a garage sale $30 minus funnel & wrench. This is a '47 made in Canada. Can't get over how well made the old stuff is. Instructions literally stamped into the brass. Try wearing that off! Can't wait to give'er a go...

I purchased one last summer at a garage sale. The seller told me it belonged to his dad and he had no idea what it was. This actually makes for a great camping item. You can fry or heat-up most anything. Great video, thanks.

Awesome garage sale find. Sounds like most people who have these got them handed down. I found mine at a thrift store years ago and have never seen another one.

Gear is great fun man! Great stove. That little lever, if I'm not mistaken, is to clean out the gas jet if it gets fouled. By turning it pushes a little rod or pin up into the jet to knock loose any debre in the jet. to turn it off properly close that round dial.

Nice video. I just scored one of these off eBay this afternoon for about $150.00, and it literally looks like it has never been used. It even comes with the original handbook, funnel, and pot handle. Can’t wait for it to arrive! This will definitely be put to use, considering I live an off grid nomadic lifestyle.

Three Rivers Outdoors I’ll take some pictures this spring when I can take them outside. I also got a Stella Ferrara in excellent condition. I’d like to take some pictures of the two units together.
The Stella Ferrara is a self sustained coffee pot that works on alcohol. It brews one cup (kinda like modern K-Cup units). There’s a video on it on UA-cam. If you like self sustained off-grid equipment, and you’re one of those people who needs his coffee, it’s perfect for when the electricity goes out, or to set up in a cabin. You really have to keep your eye open for them on eBay. I was pretty fortunate and saw this listing before anyone else, and it had a “Buy It Now” option.

I love the pocket stove. I got one New in a box. But I kept several of these to use too. Just 1 of many favorites I have but the Optimus 199 and primus 41 is still my favorite.

I believe if you pull it apart the other valve is actually a jet cleaner on a pivot wish cleans the jet when you turn it upwards

That little wire valve opposite the main valve is not an adjustment, it’s the tip cleaner. It’s purpose is to clean out the tip of the generator.

I own one also. It performs very similar to a 501 Coleman. I did a test against the 501. I used a quart of water in the same whistle kettle in both stoves. Similar performance between both stoves. You could have pre-heated the generator to reduce the warm up time.

I have one from my dad's basement as well. It's in remarkably good condition. Have to replace that gasket but it has the funnel chained on and the original wrench. Just splitting hairs but, if you had covered the larger pot with the smaller as a lid, it fits nicely, we probably would have shaved a minute or so off yer burn time. I'm thinking of fashioning an aluminum wind screen to contain heat around the pot which will make it that much more efficient - like the modern MSR stoves. Great for car or canoe camping. I wouldn't want to backpack with it though.

Yours is missing the heat difuser and mine is missing the wrench / pot handle . Great tip on the pump leathers and gasket. Mine was found after being stored and forgotten (by me) for 20 years.

for your info : www. old coleman parts .com (remove the spaces to make one long word) otherwise this would end up in the spam list . is a great source for missing parts. I recently bought the 520 and 530 wrench plus the replacement parts for the filler cap and the pressure plump. for about 20 bucks total and 5 shipping. They have the diffuser plate that you are missing for 6 bucks. it is a flat plate of heavy guage steel that fits on the stove for temperature control

Just got mine out. Bought it maybe in '06? off ebay but never played with it. Pumped up good and held pressure. The tank's got a bit of crud in it. We'll see. I'll attempt to vid it. A47, made in USA, w/wrench, funnel, heat diffuser, cook case and instruction booklet. Thanks for the vid, kinda got me pumped:)

+Three Rivers Outdoors, I just picked one of these up in the trash, It Looks great and has everything except the pot handle and funnel. The tank was still pressurized as i was watching this video with my earbuds in i was unaware that it was pissing gas all over my desk :( should i sell it? or keep it?

    • @Justdirtbikes

+Three Rivers Outdoors I just opened the valve and it lit right up, I doubt it was 50 year old gas, Glad to see it works though. It works fine except the gas cap is stuck and I dont want to break it, Im gonna spray some penetrating oil in there to see if it will loosen it up. Then I might sell it or keep it, I left boy scouts a couple years back but I might go show some of my old leaders there what i found.

Fuel cap is probably unsafe? It depend how it release gas. Safest (all new) model have grooves in thread. If fire ignite, cap is still on and gas go downwards.

  • @petek3979

Nice Stove! I just bought one and fired it up. It seems to work well. The cap does leak like you said in the video. I noticed that mine runs pretty hot. I mean the control knob gets pretty hot and the tank starts to get hot. Is that normal?

    • @ThreeRiversOutdoors
      @ThreeRiversOutdoors  5 років тому

Pete Moss the fuel cap is an easy fix with a rubber o ring. And they sure do run hot! The tank shouldn’t be hot however. Hope you enjoy yours!

How to fill gas on a 1966 model? I was watching all demos and videos about this kind of coleman burner but the 1966 one has not ben showed. Thank you.

  • @awless

Even the old 530 does not need the "fill the cup with fuel then light it up wait for 3 minutes " preheat thing . You just turn in on and wait for it turn blue

White gas is just pure gasoline, no detergents or other stuff that would normally cause gas to degrade quickly. Pump gas (E10) has an expiration time of about 1-3 months. White gas or the Trufuel from the hardware store can last multiple years if stored sealed in a cool place.
