Our 670cc 2 stroke go kart is one fast go kart. In today's episode of CarsandCameras, we take our 125HP go kart to the drag strip. It's safe to say that we built a 100mph go kart. This snowmobile powered go kart outperformed our wildest expectations, and with a little bit more tuning to the carburetors, fuel delivery, and gearing, this go kart could go over 100mph in the 1/8th mile.
    Thanks for Watching!

As a snowmobile guy I have to suggest rebuilding your clutches. New springs and weights and give them a good cleaning. Also check your jetting snowmobiles are jetted for cold weather from factory so I'm going to guess your running it very fat...just some suggestions. Last but not least this video and that cart are awsome!

I suggest putting the exhaust back on tight. It started blogging because the exhaust came loose after the first run. Removing it all together made it even worse. These small engines need backpressure to perform at peak power on the low end. Otherwise, the mixture expells early producing a cold burn. Ike pulling its exhaust off was a mistake, he should have tightened it back up. This is what happens when you play a guessing game rather than try to learn about tuning. No excuse with all the tuning knowledge all around youtube by pros. They need to drop their egos and learn from others including their subscriber's comments. They have no idea how to tune a carb.

They are set up to run a bit Richer for cold winter weather. Cold air is much denser thus you need more fuel. Ya Don't want to lean it out and have it go super lean mid run and burn it up. True a lean engine is a faster engine but you produce alot of heat. Good way to burn holes through the top of pistons.
It will be fine. Just put slightly hotter plugs in it to help prevent plug fouling.

The clutching/gearing might be causing your lower end bog. It's possible the belt is wrong or wore out. Also I can't remember if you guys are using the snowmobile clutches on that or not but if so make sure top of belt is level with the secondary clutch pulley with engine off or at idle. And the secondary clutch on a snowmobile has adjustments. But seems like when trying to do full throttle take off belt is initially pulled into the clutches to much which is like trying to take off in 4th or 5 gear then engine catches up eventually. after Ike's 1st pass the belt was stretched or your motor moved making belt loose. If you do any carburetor jetting write down what you take out so can always come back to it but I would start with clutching. The snowmobile that engine came out of can get too 100 or 120 so that cart has some power left on the table

As someone who's from the north where the snowmobiles roam (in the winter) I would suggest checking your engines crank seals, base & head gaskets and any other thing that looks like a gasket to make sure it's not sucking air from somewhere. Usually when it's sucking air it'll cause a run-lean issue that makes tuning your carburetors nearly impossible. The last thing you want is that thing locking up on you doing 95mph because it was sucking air.
As for which kart will win in the next video, I'll vote for the 670-Kart as I'm a fan of 2-strokes more. They're best at making the most power in a lighter weight and smaller displacement than a 4-stroke even if they're not good with making torque. :)

Also if you're running spark plugs for a snowmobile you might want to go up a number or two as the engine will run a little hotter and kill plugs. Higher rating equals longevity. Hi Guys, great to see this project perform at the strip, I think this one could go a long way.. Aside from the obvious stuff like checking the carbs are clean after running out of fuel, I think the previous comments about using a heavier clutch spring to increase the stall speed is a great idea, 2 strokes make most of their power at higher rpm .. they are prone to bogging at low rpm's .. also as mentioned increasing the stall will allow you to blip throttle more on de-cell and pump more fuel/oil mix into the engine .. never a bad thing IMHO.
From the video, it looks like you ran those passes almost back to back? which makes me wonder about coolant temps?
Someone also mentioned running junior dragster slicks, I think this would help a huge amount and stop any spinning as well as reduce balance issues, remember small tyres turn a lot faster than large diameter ones ... and those little go-cart wheels almost certainly aren't rated for 90mph :)

You should be able to get it into the mid 6’s, at least. Considering the power and weight, as well as traction, that’s what I see it doing with some fine tuning.

Hey guys Minnesotan here, as a northerner I got some advice. You should jet your fuel mixture leaner due to your intake and exhaust system and because cold air is more dense. Check your belt too because a worn belt robs a lot of power. Then check your clutches and clean them and make sure they are not showing serious signs of wear. Also I think that is a ski doo TRA clutch which means you should be able to adjust the engagement speed, for drag racing, higher engagement speed is better due to it hitting the power band, which is around 6000 rpm’s. Speaking of power band check your RAVE valves, they make a HUGE difference in how those motors preform. Hope this helps

Love it! I do not know how you have the fuel feed from the tank setup but is it possible that during acceleration, fuel is sloshing away from the pickup tube and ultimately starving it of fuel? Just a thought. 95 mph is impressive!

Well now, you've finally got some real info on one of your projects and I'm LOV'IN it. But I think top speed would be your best gage for run comparison because the timing seems to be very confusing when a slower Top Speed can do a lower timed time. Can't wait to see this machine run again after the mods and repairs have been done. A-1 video

Wicked fast , great job guys ! You definitely need to do clutch maintenance, and set up your carburetors before more troubleshooting , there are many plastic wear parts and points in those clutches that can cause binding and bogging from a dead stop . Also if the carburetors have been swapped from side to side that can cause issues as the are jetted differently on the mag and clutch sides . They also should be synchronized to ensure they are opening at the same rate , and fuel float levels should be adjusted to ensure proper atomization. Please don't take off the exhaust muffler as this can seriously lean the engine and cause damage , it is tuned to create the optimal backpressure to keep the fuel in the engine as the piston is closing , lastly clean the exhaust valves and check for leaks/ tears in the diaphragms . All of these items need to be addressed before any troubleshooting I cannot stress this enough , these are fine tuned engines and are very sensitive to the above parameters . 👍 Hope to see it in the mid 6's 👍

@@BobbyOfEarth it won't. For 1/8 mile drag racing you want the best acceleration of the line. That results in the best times. That's why 60 ft times are so important to drag racers. It would for sure have a slower time in the 8th with taller tires although it would have probably a higher trap speed. For example, John had a way slower time than Isaac even though he went 6 mph faster because his start sucked.

Hell Yeah Brother, AIRSTRIP , DAMM that's gonna be awesome hardly freaking wait for that video, once you sort the fuel issue and get rid of the bogging problem and sort the gearing and especially the tires , you'll easily take almost a full second off your 1/8 mile time, my nephew use to race Karts here in Canada fully sponsored and his class of karts easily capable of 125 mph and they were fricking loud and just so cool, good times ahead 👍

Hey guys I want to tell you about the primary clutch on that engine if you look closely you will see 3 bolts with nuts on them 10mm. Look at the head of the bolt you will see a line on the bolt and numbers 1 to 6 in a circle casted right in the clutch. Now loosening that bolt and turning that bolt higher in number will make the rpm on the engine go higher. Should be around 8100 to 8200 rpm. Not getting to that rpm will be a significant lose in power.

I have a tip, in the burn out box pull forward until your front tires are on dry ground and spin the tires all the way out of the water and onto the dry track or just drive around the water and stage. Replace the fuel tank and run a larger fuel supply to each carb including larger fuel filters, one for each carb. You might even need to pressurize your fuel tank. I drag raced a Kawasaki H2 for years and 2-strokes don't like heat and run best cold.
