Turbo 670 Dragster SMASHES PERSONAL BEST with a 90+ MPH Pass!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Our Predator 670cc v twin powered dragster runs its fastest time ever at the drag strip! N/A, this modified high performance 670cc v twin ran a 9.92 in the 1/8th mile, and today with the turbo, nitro methanol fuel, and RZR transmission we ran a 7.89 at 91 MPH! We still need more fuel flow and some stall speed in our transmission before we can crank up the boost, but this test 'n tune was very promising!
Thanks for Watching!

I am an old man, my boys and I did go karts and mini bikes until they grew up and went out and are doing life.
I appreciate your channel so much because I just don’t have the energy, time or money to spend.
I am living vicariously through your channel.
THANK YOU!!!
BRAVO ZULU!
alot of guys get to live the scene through the boys, its great. i'm still young enough to do some stuff but work and life get in the way alot. i'm so thankful to see what these guys dream up and get to be somewhat of a part of it.
Right there with you! Built my last bike at 60 years old

Did you guys know you can shave the weights in that primary clutch to change the engagement rpm? In our drag snowmobiles we engage around 4K rpm so it’s closer into the power band for a better whole shot.
ua-cam.com/video/y7wnlg7an9w/v-deo.html
Yeah I think they are losing a lot from the clutch setup. I know on my rotax 780 banshee the clutches would make it break the times at the strip on it.
I have a kart with a Polaris 680 triple on it that engages at 4k. I’m hoping to take it to the track soon
Just before the 11:00 min mark John mentioned that they can still tune the stall, so I guess they do know.
4K is good for a sled that spins up to 8 or more thousand rpm this 670 probably make more power down in lower rpm ranges and doesn't rev as high.
All of a sudden those burnouts are starting to look legit! Good job guys
👆Wow Congratulations You've Been Selected Among My Selected Winners 💙.
Exactly what I thought! Really starting to perform like a drag rail now
Hopefully you didn't get scammed bud but this guy is fake.
Sounds wicked too!
Thanks for coming out and joining us at Triad Street Scene! We had a great time watching your runs. Come see us again October 19th and November 9th and 30th!! $10 to get in, free to race, kids under 12 free!
Thanks for showing these boys some love. What a cool guy!!
see you are welcome back even if you did oil the track
They’re not banned? Awesome!
@@cavemanvi In motorsports stuff blows up all the time. It would be unfair to ban someone for mechanical failure given it inevitably happens to everyone.
No ban! We are glad to have them they are great guys we wouldn't penalize them for one little accident..
This thing was 2 whole seconds faster than it was just 3 months ago, with lots of potential to go faster! We're gonna redo our oil lines to make sure we don't oil down the track again.
Needs Nitrous
so was you banned from the first strip or was you just too embarrassed to show your faces there again?
@@lukefortenberry2998 They can't give it enough fuel RN as it is, you think nitrous would help lol?
I think you should use the engine from your 200cc shifter cart
I told you to get a snowmobile or atv clutch setup when u first built this thing!!!
A lawn mower engine has no business sounding that good or that fast, killer job guys. I knew you'd get it sorted out. 👌
those 670 twin lawnmowers
I'm SO glad you guys stuck with this build. One of, if not THE most favorite build of yours you've ever done.
2 recommendations. First put a really powerful rear brake on it so that you can hold it back on the line to build boost. Second, install an injector nozzle between the carb and turbo and add fuel thru there via a selinoid and WOT switch. You can jet that up or down to match whatever boost level you plan to run.
I don't think you can load up a CVT like that
@@murmaider2 you are correct. If you load a CVT up like that you will end up burning a belt up in no time.
It will blow the belt off that thing in five seconds of power break it
Man we must be on the same wave length I was think exactly that. !!! Great minds think alike.
Good luck guys.
I think it just needs a standalone
This is 1000% cooler than any LS swap out there. There needs to be a class like this at every local track. Cool shit fellas.
It's called "Jr Dragster" My God son did it up in NJ it was for kids , 1/8mile ...lots of fun.
For sure
For comparison, many years ago my 2003 Dodge SRT4 ran an 8.2 @ 85 mph in the 1/8th with 279 hp and 311 ft lbs to the wheels. This little rail is movin!!!!
Biggest thing is this rail weighs nothing
This turbo dragster is by far the best series ya'll have done..Bravo !
I've been watching this build since you guys first dreamed it up, nice to see it finally starting to get fast after all that work. Turbo was definitely the way to go.
A flat slide carb with a accel pump might be fitting.
That thing just puts a big smile on my face, still has room for development, fun stuff and good luck on improvements to come.
I would love to see more similar dragsters like this in their own class.
They have Jr. dragsters already, with that I like this style and it looks more adult size.
It’d be cool if they dragster-ized an existing cart!
The Harbour Freight Challenge sounds like a plan.
You guys should contact FuelTech and see if they would be interested in trying to set some records !
Their injection system would be very tuneable on this
Man, the fun and enthusiasm you guys had really shone through in this one. It was infectious! Really great seeing the rail live up to its potential. Can't wait for more!
@bryduhbikeguy pointed out that your turbo return line is way to small, and he is correct. You need to increase the size of your return to at least 3/8 if not 1/2" inside diameter. I left my original comment below not to try to hide what my original thought was.
If you have too much base pressure, the solution is not to seal it up and lock your hoses on better, the solution should be to lower the base pressure with more / bigger vents. You lines should also be secure, but you need to get rid of that pressure.
A larger diameter return line will help drop the pressure. The fitting into the block is way too small. It acts as a funnel and pressure builds there.
@@bryduhbikeguy
Ok guys I dragged raced on and off from 1980 until 2008 and watching y'all ripping this home built dragster with a lawnmower engine basically is getting me excited one of y'alls best projects ever and I am impressed at what it will do and sounds awesome to boot
Wat did you drag race??
In the 80s my favorite car was a 72 Chevy luv with a small block my last car was a 72 chevelle 426 ci small block and a 600 fogger system that car ran 8s good times but spent in 10 yrs enough to buy 2 average houses lol
You want the primary to grab at roughly 3500 rpm with that v twin. Reduce primary flyweights or add spring until it does. This will get it right into boost. Next time on Dyno watch your peak hp rpm. You want to be 10% over at the finish line. This can be done with the secondary spring adjustment. Make that exhaust pipe longer so it doesn't gas you. AN fittings good 😊
You guys will keep tuning this till you get what you want. I have confidence in you. When I was a kid (1960's), there was a guy down the street that had a rail. He was sponsored by his employer, a Chevrolet dealership. They tinkered with the rail for several months, rebuilding and swapping out two Chevy motors, until eventually he and Chevrolet started taking trophy's. You guys will too.
Hey guys, cars blow on the track quite often. It's racing. Power on pavement is a lot different than the Cars And Cameras Grand Prix. Don't hang your heads, just say "hey sorry guys" to the other racers, get them a bruskie and go back and race. Awesome video dudes!!! So proud of this build... and this channel

Congratulations You've Been Selected Among My Shortlisted Winners 🎉.
If you don't have an oil regulating orifice on the turbo oil feed, the pressure will be too high and damage seals quickly. Your oil return line shouldn't experience so much pressure to blow off.
Wow Supporter For Showing Love
Congratulations You've Been Selected Among My Shortlisted Winners 🎉.
Oil return line is seeing pressure because of crankcase pressure, not oil pressure. Journal bearing do not need a restrictor. I’ve built many cars with journal bearing turbos and no restrictor. What you need is a good flowing drain and adequate crank case ventilation.
@@junkyardboost8372 Aah i see, i was under the impression they both need an orifice. Thanks for the info.
Y’all gonna have to build your own drag strip pretty soon.
Consider a boost referencing fuel pressure regulator. It might provide the extra fuel you need up top automagically…
This is a Big one! I think this could single-handedly solve their A/ F mixture issues
You also may be consuming fuel faster than the open seat can flow period.
Can you drill it bigger and still have the valve close with the float? Maybe modify your carb to use a fuel valve from a bigger carb that can flow more if not?
@@motoman22atgmail
Another excellent point! People don’t understand just how much more fuel needs to flow when using Nitro / methanol… the fuel,is LESS energy dense! But much higher octane [less susceptible to detonation] therefore you can get more energy out of it… but it requires a LOT more fuel… it’s counter intuitive. Gasoline is far more energy dense but it’s really quick to detonate… which destroys engines FAST and when boosting engines Gas is problematic.
A feller thinks your right.
They just need a better carburetor. A Harley Davidson carburator has a fuel float needle that is over twice the size as the carb they have now. You can get good direct replacement cv40-45mm carbs under 50 bucks and they will support 120hp. Or run a mikuni with mechanical slide for about 100. Both direct replacement Harley Davidson Sporter/dyna carbs. They also have eccelerator pumps so that will fix the off idle stumble they are having
I bet hitting the turbo directly with a tiny nitrous fogger shot should build up the boost quicker. I've seen a few turbo cars use nitrous just to help build boost quicker. Love this little dragster😀
It's the no boost/idle launches that killing it.... hold the brake and give it just a little throttle (not much) just to build the slightest boost
They've been told this ad nauseum. They chose to ignore the advice.
I'm very surprised it ran in the 7's though. So kudos to them for making progress. If you're not making mistakes, you aren't making progress either. They have learned a bit lately.
Glad to see a scatter shield on that rail !!! 👍👍👍💯
Another thing I'll throw out there. I've built quite a few small turbo motors and one thing is if it's a journal bearing turbo then they don't require a lot of oil. And with boost you'll have lots of bottom end pressure so you need a big crank vent put a catch can on it. If you have to much bottom pressure the oil will have a hard time returning from the turbo which the it can push past the seals then burn the oil.
That's a good looking racing suit.
That'll definitely keep the fire off of you.
Pretty sure you can buy different weights for that clutch to get it to engage at a higher RPM. That's awesome 👍
This was AWESOME! Improvements throughout the day YES!
Always keep the engine cam on like you did in the first runs with Ike driving. I was able to see that the torque converter does not complete it's full travel until about 7500 rpm. You changed the gear and then took away the CVT cam. The ideal gear might be the one that didn't fit.
Oh yeah, John, a word with you in private please.
At 7:30 you mentioned the dragster was expensive...enough of that! We racers never discuss cost except with our sponsor's. Money is no object when it comes to drag racing! ;)
this has been my favorite series ever! please keep the rail videos coming!! i wanna see this thing run a high 6
I was there tonight and it was cool as hell watching it go down track in person. Cool to talk for a minute to. Thanks Charles it was cool meeting you
NIIICE 🔥 Love the Go Or Blow plate Y'all done a great job on that modification also. 👍🏻
ua-cam.com/video/y7wnlg7an9w/v-deo.html
I like the subtle “Nice” after reading the mph on the second pass. 😄
I feel cheated that y’all didn’t come back to Farmington. Lol
Need a carb with an accelerator pump to help with that off line stumble. There’s such a long distance for the fuel to travel, pump shot would help big time. 👍
if you're blowing the return line off of the turbo, then I'd definitely troubleshoot that. I know you stated that you're tearing the engine apart (good on you), but for future runs, I'd definitely look into a possible solution for Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV). When it's happened to me, it's been mostly due to blow-by in the crankcase exceeding what the stock PCV system can handle. I've personally solved this by running a small electric vacuum pump with a vacuum break valve set at 14" of water/H2O.
Don't get me wrong; reinforced lines *will* help you in this area. I'm sure of it. But that still won't fix the potential root of the problem.
He almost went back to the future, Charles that was a good line 😂
It's still a race car. If you ain't breaking parts, you ain't racing! Definitely my favorite build guys! 😊✌️
Racing a home built dragster with your mates! It doesn't get much better than that.awesome build guys👍👍👍
This would literally gap me in the 1/8th.. Good job guys 🤘
There i go at 8:15 lol hope yall come back out soon. Todays the next event here at piedmont, im shooting for 7s!
Nice one guys!!! I would not worry too much about oiling the track. It sux but it's part of racing. And if you do it long enough it will happen again. Potentially on something different. Sounded great!!!!!
Seriously no need to be embarrassed about blowing something on the track. Use to live in NC where they are and drag racing is big... Hell growing up my friend and his father had dragsters and they blew engines or threw rods all the time.
It’s not part of racing when you have no business taking the next step past the dyno. They were nvr ready to leave the dyno and still are not. They are chasing problems they don’t even have yet. They don’t have a gearing problem or launching problem or any them. They have a problem:leaving the dyno knowing well and sure the thing is not right aka not ready for a track day. Period. Our tracks must be different here because you can’t run socks on your carbs. It’s a fire hazard. Backfire hazard. It’s a clear indicator that the engine is a hazard. Two tracks down. Don’t worry bout it. Stuff another sock in it. L😂

No matter how you look at it, it’s rather impressive being it’s powered by a twin cylinder lawnmower engine. Great job you guys!!
It would be cool to redo the turbo system so it sits lower and then make a fiberglass shell to reduce air drag🤟🏻🤟🏻
Full blown door slammer dragster with a whole pivoting body!
Yall need a rising rate fuel pressure regulator for fuel control. That way at idle its not flooding but under power it increases the fuel based off of boost pressure.
If it was the oil pressure Guage line again, use a copper line. The plastic line they come with is the worst thing you can ever use. I would think Ike would of known not to use it. Also make a small oil pan under the engine like a real drag car uses and line it with the absorbent mats used for floors. Thar said, the rail is running great, put a main jet in the oil feed line of the turbo to restrict the amount of oil going into the turbo and that will help with the oil seals in the turbo. Running methanol threw the turbo probably doesn't help with the life of the turbo either. Why not brake out the fuel injection setup you tried a few years ago on the drift trike? Might need to use bigger injectors but at least then you could run it after the turbo. Whatever you do turn the boost up I want to see a 6 at 100mph
Great job. Cant wait till y’all put the 110+ hp 2 stroke on it.

Wondering if extending the exhaust pipe would save your eyes ,lungs. That stuff is nasty, great content well done
What rpm is max power at? 7500 may be too high and some heavier weights in the cvt might make it faster...
Could you guys do a video on a starter rebuild/cleaning I've done them before with good results but I'd like to see y'all's method and see if there's anything I could do differently/better
Awesome video, this thing rips! Are there any repercussions for oiling down a track (besides some angry faces) like a fine or a temporary ban or something? I assume it never happens on purpose so that would be harsh..
No, if you constantly came out and did it everytime they may have a talk with you but oil downs an accepted possibility.

They make these things called fuel pressure regulators. Also, holding the brake while on the line to get some RPMs would certainly help.

@9:59 - LOL just noticed the "Don't be Stupid.." LOL that's hilarious
With at much effort as you've put into this dragster, you should get a decent blow-through carburetor and fuel pump with rising rate regulator to feed it. Then you can play with boost all you want and have enough fuel.
