I would've 100% played this as my main game, if it wasn't for the floaty combat. It just doesn't feel good playing it. Like Josh Strife Hayes said, "I like everything about ESO...except playing it."
The combat can be very good once you learn all the animation canceling and how to burst dmg quickly. But mainly the combat is meant to be pretty even and basically depends on who does their rotations better. I used to be top 20 PVP when the game released and I found a lot of ppl use macros to always animation cancel perfectly or to go to their buff cycle say, you press one button and that one button would change weapons, animation cancel the swap, and then use each skill animation canceling each one with a block, and then swap back to primary weapon to fight keeping uptime on buffs always and minimize down time on DPS. Combat in this is a mix of DPS pressure and burst dmg combo for pvp, also resource management is a big deal in pvp. But the game is such a grind fest especially for new players or even returning players, customization is good, too much of it is bad, because it makes it extremely hard for new players to feel anywhere close to competitive in PvP, even in battlegrounds where champion points are shut off, your set has a massive impact on your ability to compete, and the meta sets are always changing, and on top of all that, dungeon 2 pc or 1 pc sets are a thing meaning you need to grind the dungeon countless times or grind a boss countless times to acquire the weapon you want with the traits you need on it. And for your average person, it seems like every time you grind the new meta, you get the items finally and a new patch comes out that nerfs that set and your back to the drawing board..staying relevant in eso is similar to how much of a grind it is to be and stay radiant in valorant
@CoolBreezyo Agreed. It's the single worst trading system I've encountered in any game that incorporates trading. It's the equivalent of removing all online e-portals, search engines, e-shops, print advertisements, *and* legacy newspaper ads. And it still doesn't manage to circumvent price gouging, cartel-like behavior, nor coordinated price fixing. Pathetic and god awful. There are literally people that should have lost their jobs over such a moronic design decision.
I went back to ESO last month after 4 years and I’m so happy I did game is amazing now. I just wish they’d do a character visual update the models are ten years old and need updating. Every single quest in the game is voiced and the quest themselves are all animated and have mini mechanics.
Isn’t part of an MMOs charm slightly outdated models/textures though? I think it adds to the overall atmosphere of the game. Instead of the new and modern, everything shiny everything smooth graphics.
You did not failed at life, only the world (New World) failed you. Don't blame yourself for others' fault. IF it is a good home, there is no shame returning to it unless you can find a better home elsewhere.
I like ESO - they found a way to have horizontal progression while still having meaningful updates by adding new mechanics. I quit New World for good once they failed to do that and started with vertical progression. It's not hard. My past accomplishments shouldn't be wiped out by a new patch.
I would advise to tread with caution with these videos. Mmo’s like seeing communities increase. The one true way to see if you enjoy something is to try it yourself. Eso is highly accessible, has an enormous amount of content and enjoyable story. People need to see themselves what appeals to them, questing dungeons or raids, altoholism, pvp - we all have our poisons. Personally i like the eso systems, its pvp, its ease of levelling alts. If you like you said, have a negative tone based on personal preference, you might steer others away from something they may genuinely enjoy. Just a constructive criticism to approach these things objectively.
Im a noob in these types of games. Because i wanna get new experiences of playing different games, I recently started this one so im excited to see all of the potencial this game has. Its a lot to take in but i love the challenge
(Not sure if this is still the case) I played ESO right when it came out and absolutely loved that general skill progression was gained through side quests. It really encourages you to get invested in the world and help as many people as you can, since you are constantly improving your character. Rather than having to focus on using a single type of weapon/armour to level up, you just do missions and level everything up slightly. Or doing some slog of a mission and getting a measly 500-1000 gold for completing it, you might get payment/reward but you always level your character up for everything you do.
Animation cancelling is removed (kind of) like 90% of the skills are fixed but some you can cancel. Lightweaving is an intended feature as skills have a 1 second global cooldown so you weave a light attack between skills for additional DPS but that is more for end game DPS in Veteran Trials
ESO is one of the best MMORPGs in my opinion. I used to play lots of D&D when I was a kid, and I always wanted an MMO that made me feel like my character. I wanted an immersive world that was filled to the brim with people, had good graphics, and roleplay elements mixed in. When I played ESO, I found the game I wanted. I had already been playing Skyrim, and I was obsessed with the lore of The Elder Scrolls, but I wanted to experience it with my friends. When I played ESO for the first time, a long-lost need filled my mind, and I was making friends left and right. The community is really nice and are mostly just a bunch of lore nerds or WoW veterans that want to play something less toxic. ESO not only made me play it lots, but I introduced a lot of my old friends into it too, and they loved it as well. As a long-time player, I can say that it definitely isn't for everyone, but I can also say that it is usually very critique people that dislike it. If you are going into it with your only goal to critique it, it takes the magic out of it. ESO has a very well-designed class and build system where you can basically make any type of build you want. Want to be a druid that can summon animals and use plants to heal and damage your enemies, sure! Want to be a paladin that uses holy typed magic like from WoW, you can do that too! There's literally no end. ESO lets you choose who you want to be and doesn't force you to choose everything at the start. It is an extremely beginner friendly game that will have you making friends in the first hour or so. The first person who I made friends with was a Khajit Dragonknight who looked like he stepped out of D&D. We met at a tavern in Vvardenfell and he gave me 1M gold so I could level up my gear once I reached endgame content. I still talk to him, and he was one of the most influential people in my time playing. I still play ESO today and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the type of experience I described.
Super excited for Elder Scrolls 6! Here’s what I’d love to see: 1. **A Truly Dynamic World** - A living, breathing world that reacts to your choices. Cities, factions, and landscapes that change based on your actions. 2. **Expanded Combat** - More fluid and tactical combat with a deeper skill system. Magic and melee should feel equally impactful. 3. **Better NPCs & AI** - NPCs that feel more alive with realistic routines, personal stories, and real consequences to your interactions. 4. **Deeper Crafting & Customization** - More ways to personalize gear, houses, and even NPC relationships. Let us truly make our mark on the world. 5. **Bigger, More Diverse World** - Multiple regions with distinct cultures, biomes, and climates to explore. Let us journey from the deserts to the snow-capped mountains! 6. **Enhanced Modding Support** - The modding community is a huge part of Elder Scrolls, so easy-to-use modding tools would be a game-changer. 7. **Improved Exploration** - Seamless exploration with less loading screens, more hidden places to discover, and a greater focus on player-driven stories. What do you guys want to see in Elder Scrolls 6? The possibilities are endless! YES!
Light attack weaving is based on 2 cooldowns abilities have a global cooldown and light attacks have their own, and that is the entrance of the rabbit hole. Blockcast abitlities, bash weaving, and other tricks only viable for pvp.
The thing about this game damage wise is that its not gear / level related, its knowledge related. Before anyone thinks im just an a*hole boasting about getting gud. Through all your review i saw you spamming a damage over time ability, the noxius breath, instead of an actual spammable ability. For your build it would be wrecking blow before 50% and reverse slash under 50% you will melt enemies alot faster. Dont get me wrong you need to use noxious breath to lower their defenses before doinf wrecking or reverse slash. Also whenever you are low on stamina fully charging a heavy attack will give you a huge chunk of stamina back with melee weapons and magic with staves. Just letting you know since the game hardly explains this.
I've played eso since release on console. And since then I've switched to pc and still absolutely love the game even if I've had to complete restart when I switched to pc 3 years ago. I may just be biased cause of basically growing up with this game but everytime I need a little pick me up or a game to really just play and relax it's eso. All the negative comments about this game that aren't just insulting it to insult it. You need to think they merged an mmo and an rpg it's hard to do there's gonna be issues. And tbh the only issues people have are nitpicky stuff.
11:36 yeah, unfortunately, I’ve learned you don’t really experience dungeons, you just pray you talked to the quest giver before everyone takes off, and hope you follow all the steps to actually completing the dungeon and getting the credit for going through it all and listening to all the dialogue before it times out because everyone has left the group before the dungeons even completed. I’ve only been in 1 dungeon outta hundreds, where the tank actually waited for everyone to load in and talk to the right people before taking off, and the healer actually made sure everyone was ahead too.. gawd, the experience is amazing when everyone sticks together and plays their roll - yes, some are just trying to get through it because they’ve done it however many times, but give new players a chance, let them experience the game too and figure out their rolls. If their constantly playing catch up, they aren’t learning anything, and it honestly turns me off from “random dungeons “ (don’t even get me started on “random battlegrounds “ with players that treat every battleground like a deathmatch 🤦🏽). Not only that, it seems to take longer because we’re always backtracking in dungeons cause some DPS is taking over the tank roll and making us backtrack through a whole dungeon so we can get through one door because we missed some crucial boss or moment of dialogue everyone totally skipped trying to keep up
I've been on both sides of the equation, and no, veterans should not have to babysit newcomers. Newcomers also should not have to miss out. Thus the current matching system is broken, and ZOS doesn't care sufficiently to fix it because the current system is the only way to ensure newcomers don't wait for hours on end to maybe get into a dungeon no one else wants to run except for their daily transmute random queue bonus. It is what it is and it's the same complaint that crops up in all of the MMOs I've played where content has been around for years. If you want to experience it story-mode (which I would like to), either hope ZOS finally introduces a story-mode run of it (they probably won't after 10 years of players complaining about this), organize your own 4 man group, or solo it. (This can be done, though is easier on some classes than others, having an appropriately set up companion helps too, and you'll want to be well into your CP levels.)
Agreed. BDO has the fastest, most kinetic/impactful, over-the-top, insanely fun and satisfying combat I've experienced in a MMO to date. It even manages to keep up with and out-do some single-player games. Unfortunately it also has Korean-levels of grind and absolutely horrific RNG upon RNG just to upgrade gear.
I got the impression from this video you were mostly doing overland content which I agree is easy even for a beginner. The 1-50 part of the game is there so you can get a feel for your character and gain the 64 skill and attribute points. After you reach champion level there is a vertical progression as the buffs you'll be able to give yourself will enable you to do the harder content without being carried. Also, you can't queue for a vet DLC dungeon until you reach CP 300 regardless of your role in a group although you can port to another group member who has already travelled in. I've done this with my European account which isn't 300 yet but only because I was very familiar with the dungeon having run it enough on my at the time just over CP 2,200 NA account. As for sets, they get buffed and nerffed all the time so a returning player could find a set that was once meta is now worthless or the opposite could be true. As for crafting it's not essential to research everything but there are a few traits that are most definitely worth learning. Divines for body armour and for dps Bloodthirsty for jewellery. You also can't go wrong with Infused. I recommend you look into what traits are most useful for the way you want to play for your weapons too depending on if you want more crit, penetration or maybe an increase to the effective enchantment. The reason for learning trates is so you can reconstruct collected set pices and put the trait you want onto it if it didn't drop for you with the required one. Yeah it takes a bit of time but once you've learned the ones you need you can do the others at your leasure if you feel like becoming a crafter.
I've played eso since 2016, and I finally quit this year. Retired from my pvp life to a valley in Medieval dynasty. Never thought I played that. Yet is something until new mmorpgs come
what draws me into wanting to try this game is the endless content and progression grind. but as of yet im still not sure in actually starting my journey xD
It has some of the best achievement rewards in an mmorpg. Getting that *Godslayer* title on Sunspire or *Emperor* title from Cyrodil is *chefkiss* Not to mention others like personality - skins - mounts. End game progs are a little bit harder though, you need to reach a certain DPS to join thus a whole lot of practice *weaving* on attack dummies.
I started 2 Days ago, im Level 15 Now and still with my 2 Starter Daggers and without clothes, and still kill all npcs out of my way. I don't know but its to easy. So maybe i try another MMORPG
The game gives you a "beginner buff" The buff is uqual to a champion lvl 150 and the closer you reach 150 the less of the buff you gain. Its to allow you to play whatever content you want and join game events without feeling unable to complete. They added this beacuse in the beginning of the game players kicked you out og dongeons if your level/gear seemed to low. It was very toxic XD
A lot of fair points overall, just 1 nitpick though. With a good build, you can absolutely roll through the earlier contents, and make it very clear the gap between newer and veteran players.
I think you need to be doing certain burst combos and using certain builds and abilities to feel “impact” in the combat. Yes, you walking around spamming noxious breath doesn’t feel impactful, but waiting for haunting curse to proc with a meteor ult dropping on someone’s head while you cast a crystal frag and immediately streak through them to stun them and all the damage explodes at once - is something I’d consider impactful. It’s the burst windows in combat that really gives you the impact feel you were saying that it’s missing. Which as a low level without knowledge of combos or impactful feeling abilities like dizzy swing and most of the ultimates in the game, I don’t blame you for feeling that way.
FYI, there are some targeting control options you might find helpful, such as cycling targets and target markers, etc., but yeah, the combat can take some getting used to. I think it was a big part of the reason I would set the game aside for long periods in the early years, but at this point it would probably feel really strange to me going back to an MMO like WoW. Light-weaving IS the hardest part to master, and if you're a DPS, you'll need get fairly high dps numbers to qualify for a lot of higher end content, but with some practice it's not TOO difficult to top at least a 100k on a trial dummy, which will put you in good stead for the majority of stuff.
P.S. One thing about the subscription, which I don't think you mentioned, is that it gets you ALL the DLC for the game, which you could buy separately, but at this point in the game would add up to a pretty penny if you wanted it all. But yeah, you'll likely want to subscribe for all the extra storage. too, if you decide to stick with it. (And heh, it supports regular new content updates.) My advice for new players is to level up all your crafting skills asp on at least one character, and once you've done that, don't bother keeping any gear that doesn't have traits you specifically need. In most cases, except for tanks anyway, you'll want the Divine trait for most of your armor, and it costs fewer transmute stones to make those pieces at a Transmute Station than it does to change the trait on existing pieces. That will save you a lot of storage, if you're not trying to hang on to every single piece that belongs to some set you want or might want to use.
I've come to that conclusion as well, MMO's simply aren't fun for us as much after years. New and old. We seek games with more depth and deeper and meaningful combat and systems.
Tab-target is not a good idea... Animation cancelling is not integral. PRACTICE is integral.... Pro-tip: Adjust your "Game volume" to about twice your "Ambient Volume..." in your "settings" menu... Combat will feel weightier.... Thanks ZOS for separating the two...
Yeah... a jogging simulation with swords. Just run after that quest marker and keep swinging that sword at anything in your way. Repeat for as many hours as you like. Even the 'puzzles' usually are only challenging to an average hamster. Yes, there's lots of content, but it all feels like this. Just run after the quest marker and swing that sword. At least you wake up rested and ready for a good game afterwards.
You're not wrong. While I do not want difficult overland mobs because it's fucking ridiculous that a measly goblin can cause problems for someone who's literally defeated daedric princes in hand-to-hand combat, and with the carpet bombing oversaturation of mobs in overland, it would make traversing it even more of a chore. Trials, when with a half-decent group, can be quite satisfying, but most of the playerbase are not ready for that in my experience.
As a guy who play 6k hours on this game, i actually enjoy the horizontal progression in this game because it doesn't limit me to some content in the game but i can see real difference for a new player compared to veteran player that already reach cp700++. The downside of this game for me is like the real grind start from cp160 and this is zos fault because not every people patient enough to play and judge the game until they reach cp160. Combine with the scaling and some veteran player speed running normal dungeon make the game feel so easy without the newcomers not knowing what happen in that dungeon. Of course after you get to cp160 you will get access to some hardest content for PVE in the game mostly vet raid and vet arena especially if you are collecting achievement. If you are pvp'ers, the end game feels like to get broken combination of the sets, get the emperor title and dominate other faction in Cyrodill.
The thing about ESO is that the IDEA of it is so appealing. Every once in a while I forget how repetitive it gets and reinstall it. Then I play it for a little while and go, "oh, that's right, the combat is mindless and the mobs scale to your level so there is no real reward of new discovery because you became more powerful." So I uninstall it.
to me is the combat/animations, it feels so dated, and they are probably never fixing it because the core player base somehow loves it, o wish they could re-release the game with better combat because i love all the rest of the game besides the combat
Started installing the game after a few years of not playing it, read this comment and stopped the installation as this is why I stopped playing it in the first place.
I've been playing it for 4 months and I am HOOKED! So much to do in this game (epic quests chains leading to grand events) and this is just the BASE GAME. Can't wait to do (almost) everything I can and purchase an Expansion for even MORE content. I haven't had this much fun or been into an MMORPG like this since WOW (was in Vanilla Open Beta and then TBC and WOLK)
I Hope the PVP is something really great so I can return. I recently quit again due to the abysmal performance during the whitestrakes event on Xbox. However, considering how hard the devs are leaning into PROC sets for PVP, instead of focusing on sets that emphasize using your abilities, timing, and lining up combos, I have serious doubts that the PVP update will be an improvement, but at best immaterial.
PvP is still a shit show. The server upgrades have not panned out as hoped, and seem to be actively getting worse again. Balancing is as usual all over the place, the Benny Hill effect (1 player running around abusing line of sight while 12-15+ players whale on them and they insta-heal, etc.) is alive and well (unfortunately), and proc sets are still king. Organized ball groups wipe the floor with any one else that is not also an organized (voice chat) ball group, and tank builds that somehow also manage to heal and do amazing dmg (see proc sets) are still the meta. Oh, and cheating also still occurs even though no one is supposed to mention that either. In short: if you want PvP other games do it better.
@TheKFDCase That's a shame. I was contemplating re-downloading it. After looking at the patch notes, I see they reneged on the Vampire nerf to 10% and only dropped it to 15%, which is a big nerf but in the grand scheme of things is not when you consider other sources of damage mitigation, most players are running around these days with 30k resist. In my opinion, the only class that rewards you for playing pvp as a class centric build is the Max MagSorc. I think if they want to fix PVP, the best way to do it would be to eliminate proc sets and focus on class specific sets like the ones they have released in IA. Sets that emphasize the strengths of the class and that do not apply passive damage unless there is a series of criteria that is met, instead of just heavy attack or land an attack. For example, sets that would allow you to scale your burst dmg should you land 3 class abilities within a designated time frame on a target opponent. This would make PVP way more interesting, IMO. They would get rid of the garbage cheese metas that are in the game. Like on a DK if you land 3 class abilities on a target in success while at least 2 class buffs are active, flame whip recives execute scaling by up to 300% based on the targets missing health for one attack. Or on a mag sorc since it's one of the combos already, IF you damage an opponent with haunting curse, mages wrath and land a crystal within .5 seconds of sucession of each other with at least 1 class buff active the opponent is dealt an addional amout of damaged based on their missing health. Or warden, if you have at least 1 class buff active, and land shaulk and a weapon ability within .5 seconds of each other while the opponent is stunned by polar wind (or the other morph name can remember), then they receive additional damage. Cool stuff like that. Instead of rending slashes maarsalok, wof. The fact that on a stamsorc you can now land a 100k burst off just a heavy attack is cool and all but, at the same time, incredibly disheartening. It just reinforces poor gameplay mechanics, and strategic gameplay is greatly diminished.
I wish I could enjoy ESO but what breaks it for me is the lack of impact it has. Movement is too fast. I like wearing heavy armor and it doesn’t feel heavy. Two handed swords swing way too fast and have no weight.
I played ESO a LONG time ago tried to watch some lore videos and kind of just hopped around, it feels like a weird dream now and playing Skyrim is like slight deja nu now. Anyway ESO was so massive and I’d never played a game like that I found it very confusing and overwhelming except for the few cool things you could do. I think I was a khajiit with glave and I would ride around avoiding other players lol
If you have time and will to learn the vet dungeons you will be in for a treat. There is a problem thou that normal dungeons do not teach you how to do vet dungeon. A lot of people think that vet will be a bit harder then normal but in reality the difficulty is way harder. A lot of knowledge is needed for bosses otherwise its a wipe fest which actually in a way is a great learning experience you just need same minded people in the party. Same principles apply with raiding.
LOVED ESO for years, and still a great MMO but it the fact it's buy to play, with a damn near mandatory monthly subscription and some of the worst loot boxes known to fucking man.
As someone who has played from release I think this is a really sound review from someone who, let's be honest hasn't experienced the majority of the main content and systems ESO has to offer. The combat is hit or miss and although I like it, it really isn't the best when you look at it from a neutral perspective and yes I think the biggest off putting thing is the dated graphics. It just doesn't hold up compared to many games anymore. All in all occasionally follow your streams Jay and i've got to say your reviews are a far cry from how I think you're going to review it on stream. I think this is really solid and a fair summary.
I think the new world devs finally played this game and they realized that they could not match the amount of content in this MMO. So they decided to change their game to an action RPG. I left ESO when New World came out. I thought New World was going to eventually have similar content as ESO. Boy was I wrong and now I’m back and subscribed to ESO plus for the unlimited craft bag capacity. Waiting for something comparable.
I’m a new player and my only concern that I have found playing the Quests , Delves and Dungeons is the Rewards. The Rewards are great, IF your a magic based , lite armour build. But I’m a Medium armour Stamina Sustain Archer. So all the magic lite armour and magic sticks have little to NO use for me. (Which these rewards are the majority).
Let me save y’all some time. Yes it is. You don’t ever feel pressured playing eso. That’s something I can appreciate after being a long time wow player.
There is absolutely FOMO baked in to its design - especially its microtransactions cash shop which includes the dungeons and trials of every new expansion/chapter.
@@TheKFDCaseyou get all the chapters when you sub, and you can also use the premium currency you get from subbing to pay for the chapters to own permanent. Then shut of the sub if your not a crafter.
@@dominicteribery9464 Subscription only covers old chapters - not the most recent one. Again: FOMO is baked into the design. The subscription isn't free, nor is the base game, nor is the latest chapter and yet microtransactions abound. "Oh but it's only cosmetic!" The crafting bag says 'Hi.'
Oh come on mate, you're part of the UK... pronounce Zed correctly :p Spot on video btw. I recently jumped back in after a 4.5 year break....... you hit a lot of how i felt years ago and some of how i feel coming back in. Keep up the good work, enjoying your vids. (Shame about New World, but it is what it is) All the best
I have played ESO since beta, and I will tell you that you got most of these right. Some things you don't seem to be aware of, but I don't blame you because you haven't sunk too many hours into ESO.
Each guild is loyal to a specific alliance, and that was honestly 100% necessary at the time of ESO's release, but that's not the case anymore. I think we're at a point (more like have been for years) where ESO guilds can just be guilds without being loyal to any of the 3 alliances.
I am awatching this because I played for years and just stopped. Logged in today after recovering my PW and answering multiple we don't trust you emails for codes... Finally got in and I basically don't remember how to play 😂 The problem is all my characters are 50 with a ton of champion points and they were all reset so no idea what to do.
I played ESO from the beta on Xbox... loved it for like a good 8 years..... it had its ups and downs but overall always have loved it.... the last 1 and a half or 2 years i quit ESO with the Druidic expansion i was like i don't like it, classes were unpleasant to play... storywise the newer expansion ls did felt like to small in comparison with most previous DLC and expansions while it still costs the same in comparison like the bigger, better written stories and activities..... Have done most trials on hardmodes, done all dungeon hardmodes back then.... Most skins, mounts and pets have mostly re-coloured, older skinned mounts, pets and character cosmetics.... (aka nothing new, just recolouring older versions) still people are paying for those..... Community wise the overall (i know not all the people of the ESO community) but most of them for Endgame-content are so toxic, even the newer players who are about to call out older and better players get criticised by these newby Midgamers (while these mid-gamers they can teach other older players new tricks and tips of how to get through a hardmode dungeon content (mostly its due to an error on their behalf, if looking more closely but still they are calling out other players due their mistakes) I simply still love them game, but lost alot of interests to play it, ha my fair and share, have helped others numerous times to carried them through content..... have like 2 years ago lots the interests in ESO because i wanted to play other games instead.... am quite hyped with the 15th of October due New World Aeternum will come out on console, have now read some negative comments here about the game but I'm staying positive to try it out (have played the Beta for console like 3 or 4 weeks ago, really felt nice to play it) so basically will give it a try and would like to play the game. Some friends who i met in the ESO community also are willing to try it and are also quite hyped about it.... we all have played the Beta for console and all 5 of us are quite hyped and positive to give it a go.....
I'm about 650 hours in myself. Not something I would be hard core into as a main for a long time or anything, but it's a solid, fun filler until October :)
Throne and Liberty is a korean MMO and as a Korean MMO, they are after your money. If it is not p2w, it will be gambling (look at Black Desert Online rolling dices for its gear progression). ESO is more a game in the traditional sense. You pay money and you have fun. But for Korean MMO, you pay money and yet you may not have fun (because either you lose that dice roll and lose everything you spend or someone else spend more than you and have a better edge).
I have about 600 days played on this game. Attack weaving was not a bug it’s intended skills have global cooldown weaving does not so when you dps you weave in between skills. Animation cancelling was a bug yes, but that was completely separate from weaving.
The devs said otherwise. It was a bug and they couldn't fix it, so they ret-conned it as a 'feature.' The animation bug is what allows 'weaving' to occur.
While not kind to new players when you first try a vet dungeon if your lucky on a xbox series next gen you might run into me around west weald giving out psyjic ambrosia i craft since its an easily craftable xp buff drink that lasts 30 minutes and can be increased to 50 for 3 hours and 20 minutes of 50% more xp per batch of 4 i make
ESO is way better then the great ESO start, I still remember how empty and soulless it all was. Now that it had some new systems it’s enjoyable enough to overlook its bad parts.
When evaluating ESO, I must say that community mod (or addons) makes a whole world of difference. If you are playing on console where mod are not allowed, it will be a totally different experience from playing on PC with mod enabled. The experience is totally heaven and hell difference. When my mod on PC are not working due to bug from an update occasionally, I feel like quitting ESO seriously. The mod community has made ESO a much more playable and pleasant playing experience. This is a critical enabler. Even without mod, ESO on its own is quite a good MMO (minus off some of its weak point like UI design and implementation, server connection stability etc.) in terms of features and content. There are so much content that literally it will take years to completely finish all of them. As for features, what we have asked for in other MMOs but which were denied, we can basically find them all in ESO. ESO stepped up to deliver what the players want which other MMOs cannot deliver. But ESO also did not completely deliver what players want. This is fine as other MMOs also likewise did not deliver the requested features. The downside of ESO is the monetarization. IT is not pay to win, but you probably need to spend much in order to enjoy the full experience especially if you are into crafting since crafting mat storage and DLCs content is locked behind a monthly subscription.
GW2! Try GW2! After years of WoW, Rift, and other failed MMOs, Guild Wars 2 has been the best (and most rewarding) gameplay experience so far. I'm disappointed that it took me so long to play it.
Indeed. The only problem with old MMOs such as GW2 is that there aren't that much new players so you have to proceed somewhat alone during the initial phases of the game (or munch those XP boosts that make the game feel a little overwhelming for unlocking so much so fast). Anyway, I played all three (ESO, NW and GW2) and the best IMO is GW2, most well built game overall.
If you love massive public events like world bosses and even map wide events the culminate into a huge world boss then you can't go wrong with GW2. Other aspects are pretty dated though. Except for the mounts. Best mount physics in any mmo ever. I wish they updated the combat to have that same feeling of weight and momentum.
GW2 is kinda messy though. It’s an MMO but feels like an ARPG. Getting gold is a chore too. I love the way my character looks but I can’t play longer than an hour at a time. It’s fun but boring. I don’t feel like I’m discovering the world or finding any interesting loot. It’s like a giant jumping puzzle with lame rewards.
The Combat. It's really bad. The floatiness. Lack of Impact. The movement of the character also feels like an insect moving sideways with 8 legs. Can't believe they made a game with rich lore and graphics and messed up the combat system.
I like the UI and also another caracteristics that you criticise... But I think you are righ about a lot of things, the mostly relevant is the mount upgrade system. That is so dumb!
Animation cancelling was never a bug. That myth was made up by people incapable of pressing a mouse button per second. The way it works is: Cast one skill every second and a light attack immediately before that. Casting skills early can prevent the light attacks from going off, casting skills late adds idle time. It is not really complicated, but it takes a bit of practice to get it right. The combat feels much better, when you don't cast anything early.
is the MEGA server getting better? i play from Singapore and with good internet and my ping is like 300 in both eu and na server. i keep buy dlc but wont play until they put sea server
No, no it is not. Crafting bag should not be paid, not enough weapons, not enough magic spells, loot boxes exist, special cosmetics almost exclusively come from loot boxes, mounts are upgraded extremely slowly or pay for levels. ESO hasn't been worth playing since beta.
Guys im brand new and a casual should i buy eso plus or the gold road collection that includes everything. Im concerned about storage but im not a huge crafting person either.
To this day I am still mad at myself for hating the combat. ITs got great story and side quests that were so fun. But man I just couldn't get past the awful combat. It was so close to really being something special
I played ESO for about 500 hours during Covid. Game really scratched an itch for me, and I had such a good time. However, the biggest pitfall of ESO is by far the combat. Its a shame because every other aspect of ESO is really solid.
In Journal you have on active quest "Show on Map" option what pin point where to go. Useful when compas get confused bc location is outside doors or separate area (like its show docks bc next objective is in another alliance or its in map locked behing story like Artaeum or Coldharbour)
@@jayoddity Yes you can play with allies of different levels but the dungeon difficulty stay the same. If you enter fungal grotto at level 10 or at level 3600cp the dungeon is the same.
Scaling falls off when you get into veteran runs and Maelstrom. Biggest issue for me is the armour it looks meh. Also Zenimax ! If you're going to show characters with cloaks in your cinematics add them in the dam game !
Hello Sir good evening, after I payed for the purchase on steam for the base game, do I need to still pay for leveling up or stuff like that?! I’ve heard that the game it’s like WOW and you should purchase the monthly subscriptions for playing.
No you just buy it and that's that, you have the base game and technically if you don't want to there is zero need to buy expansions or the monthly sub, my advice for you is to buy an expansion if you want to experience it specifically and to buy the subscription only if you've decided "yes this is the mmo for me" otherwise buying the base game should be more than enough
Worthy or not is subjective to each individual. It is relative. But I can do a relative comparison between New World and Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) as I am a player of both MMOs. The verdict is: ESO is 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than New World. Period.
I dunno what kinda mmos you’ve played other than the craze that is New World which is very much the reasons I will not go back to Black Desert Online the graphics on both are nice to the teet, but often don’t consider everyone without a gaming pc. Quite frankly I love ESO’s graphics you actually need an RTX 2060 as a minimum to enjoy them at High Definition or an M2 Mac as I have both. With an RTX 4070 you definitely can have Ultra which is very pleasant on the eyes with HDR viewing. I quite love that this game can be played on a potato that isn’t the above mentioned somehow with a GTX 660 from ASUS (oddly specific from personal experiences) and have a pretty fun potato-ee time. Keep in mind that 660 most definitely came out before ESO did and yet works alright-not great, not the best, but just alright like having it is better than just not having a graphics card playing ESO on integrated graphics-which is hell incarnate though yes I also play ESO at work on my lunches with an M2 MacBook Air and the playing experience isn’t that bad unless I go to Fargrave or Necrom then holy shyt my Mac is having a stroke on that silicon integrated graphics. All in all pretty game maybe not some Starfield esq shit, but better than Anniversary Skyrim Graphics with no mods needed to beautify it, bc it was made by Zenimax not Bethesda and holy shyt if Bethesda made ESO then yes them graphics probably would be worse and be up to the Modding Community indefinitely for free labour lmao.
ESO+ also gives access to ALL of the DLC/patches added between expansions. There is so many of them at this point that buying them with one-time purchase would lead to hundreds of $ so ESO+ is mandatory for more "serious" players.
I honestly think eso is perfect for people who love elder scrolls in general, I was playing Skyrim but I get bored now because I’ve played the game so much, I was hesitant about eso because I didnt really care for online stuff but now that I’ve given it a shot it’s actually perfect for me
I would've 100% played this as my main game, if it wasn't for the floaty combat. It just doesn't feel good playing it. Like Josh Strife Hayes said, "I like everything about ESO...except playing it."
Aye. The best description I've come across to date of ESO combat is that "it feels like waving around floaty balloons."
i wish skill system was more like original TES and combat more impactful... would be perfect game
And the trade system is...interesting. No, wait I meant - terrible. Its fucking terrible.
Every single quest in the game is voiced and the quest themselves are all animated and have mini mechanics.
and some have ending "grand events"
Yeah like a HD texture pack to make the graphics slightly more high definitive like Monster Hunter World did. ESO its a great game.
Isn’t part of an MMOs charm slightly outdated models/textures though? I think it adds to the overall atmosphere of the game. Instead of the new and modern, everything shiny everything smooth graphics.
Did you start over or pick back up?
I went from ESO to New World. Going back to ESO is like calling my parents and telling them I failed at life and need to return home.
You did not failed at life, only the world (New World) failed you. Don't blame yourself for others' fault. IF it is a good home, there is no shame returning to it unless you can find a better home elsewhere.
@@kwoowoo828as if dead new world is anything to crow about.
My mans out here acting like new world didn't fail while ESO thriving. 😂
This misplaced gentleman really thinking NeW World isn't over while ESO is thriving
lotta people do return to their parents houses tho . makes you wonder if it’s even their fault
I picked it up recently, and it's alot of fun. It's almost like infinite Skyrim content
I like ESO - they found a way to have horizontal progression while still having meaningful updates by adding new mechanics. I quit New World for good once they failed to do that and started with vertical progression. It's not hard. My past accomplishments shouldn't be wiped out by a new patch.
Well they also hav a shed ton of content!
The progression was terrible what are you talking about that open world is so dumb down and makes no sense in any RPG
I actually quite like the game overall! I often sound a little more negative than intended.
You did sound like you had a downer on it 😂
I would advise to tread with caution with these videos.
@@DWZ78 next videos I will be more positive at least at the start but still true to my thoughts
@@jayoddity I think you did a good job. You can have plenty of negative thoughts/feelings towards a game and still like it overall.
@@Stove-627 thank you
Im a noob in these types of games. Because i wanna get new experiences of playing different games, I recently started this one so im excited to see all of the potencial this game has. Its a lot to take in but i love the challenge
This is the type of game you need to invest a lot of hours in to even scratch the surface of what it has to offer.
Here’s what I’d love to see:
0:42 you are already talking about optimizing the fun out of the game... Great start!
@@zombiejesus7445 I'm just saying there is a meta choice here. I just picked what I felt like...
ESO was my first MMO like game and put in roughly 300 hours. I did enjoy it. I HATE the scaling. A lot of good times though.
I play ESO all the time, i love it. I definitely think it is worth it in 2024
This game is actually great if you enjoy oblivion and Skyrim and don't mind some MMO elements
Been saying forever, we need a game that combines the combat from black desert with the lore and mechanics of ESO would be a fun game to play
No.
@@sunlight-sky151 yes.
this man is cooking 🤔
@@sunlight-sky151lol 2 to 1 u lose. Admit defeat and take your L
I always want to play this game but I get overwhelmed just watching these videos and give up. Thank you,.
I've played eso since 2016, and I finally quit this year. Retired from my pvp life to a valley in Medieval dynasty. Never thought I played that. Yet is something until new mmorpgs come
Great and informative video. This convinced me to give ESO a try.
Word to the wise: spend as little money as possible until you're well into the several hundreds of CP (champion points).
@@TheKFDCase thanks for the tip :)
what draws me into wanting to try this game is the endless content and progression grind. but as of yet im still not sure in actually starting my journey xD
Man go for it it’s on sell right now on steam. The game is fun and enjoyable and lots and lots of content
It has some of the best achievement rewards in an mmorpg. Getting that *Godslayer* title on Sunspire or *Emperor* title from Cyrodil is *chefkiss*
Not to mention others like personality - skins - mounts. End game progs are a little bit harder though, you need to reach a certain DPS to join thus a whole lot of practice *weaving* on attack dummies.
lol you love the highlight feature huh 😭
I started few months ago too. I share everything you said. As I see, the problem is that no new mmos satisfy us, nor old ones, lol.
It's a decent game for what it offers, but I can sort of see why it's not much bigger right now
I've come to that conclusion as well, MMO's simply aren't fun for us as much after years. New and old. We seek games with more depth and deeper and meaningful combat and systems.
Honestly that "bug" sounds more like an auto attack cancel, i dont see any problem with it tbh
Would love to play this again but my PS4 died and I have a PC now. I have no drive to restart everything I’ve done
100% You never feel like you gain power or accomplish anything.
to me is the combat/animations, it feels so dated, and they are probably never fixing it because the core player base somehow loves it, o wish they could re-release the game with better combat because i love all the rest of the game besides the combat
This is so true
TESO with skill system like original TES and actual impactful combat would be BiS..
I haven't had this much fun or been into an MMORPG like this since WOW (was in Vanilla Open Beta and then TBC and WOLK)
my only suggestion is not buying the expansions, and getting ESO+ :)
Yes, the combat is very floaty and unresponsive.
A game is worth playing if you enjoy it.
You will only know if this applies to you by playing it yourself.
That's true but some people don't have unlimited money and are just curious about other people's opinions
@@jayoddity ofcourse, but eso can be played free.
Yes worth it! I still play it and will play again!!
This video was great, thank you!
Bro just got back in myself loving it cyrodill pvp a blast
Oh come on mate, you're part of the UK... pronounce Zed correctly :p
Spot on video btw. I recently jumped back in after a 4.5 year break....... you hit a lot of how i felt years ago and some of how i feel coming back in.
Keep up the good work, enjoying your vids.
(Shame about New World, but it is what it is)
All the best
I have played ESO since beta, and I will tell you that you got most of these right. Some things you don't seem to be aware of, but I don't blame you because you haven't sunk too many hours into ESO.
Each guild is loyal to a specific alliance, and that was honestly 100% necessary at the time of ESO's release, but that's not the case anymore. I think we're at a point (more like have been for years) where ESO guilds can just be guilds without being loyal to any of the 3 alliances.
It is tab switch possible, FYI. Check your settings Boss.
Eso is huge... Even now they a are having a massive amount of people playing. Not rare to find groups and active guilds to play...
Playing tank feels really good in ESO since you become multirole instead of a meatbrick.
Boosteroid's cloud gaming service is top-tier. So impressed!
I am awatching this because I played for years and just stopped. Logged in today after recovering my PW and answering multiple we don't trust you emails for codes...
Finally got in and I basically don't remember how to play 😂
The problem is all my characters are 50 with a ton of champion points and they were all reset so no idea what to do.
Community wise the overall (i know not all the people of the ESO community) but most of them for Endgame-content are so toxic, even the newer players who are about to call out older and better players get criticised by these newby Midgamers (while these mid-gamers they can teach other older players new tricks and tips of how to get through a hardmode dungeon content (mostly its due to an error on their behalf, if looking more closely but still they are calling out other players due their mistakes)
I simply still love them game, but lost alot of interests to play it, ha my fair and share, have helped others numerous times to carried them through content..... have like 2 years ago lots the interests in ESO because i wanted to play other games instead.... am quite hyped with the 15th of October due New World Aeternum will come out on console, have now read some negative comments here about the game but I'm staying positive to try it out (have played the Beta for console like 3 or 4 weeks ago, really felt nice to play it) so basically will give it a try and would like to play the game.
@@kwoowoo828 ZOS (devs managing ESO) are definitely after your money too. FOMO is baked into their microtransactions.
I will make a new char with vampire from the beginning
While not kind to new players when you first try a vet dungeon if your lucky on a xbox series next gen you might run into me around west weald giving out psyjic ambrosia i craft since its an easily craftable xp buff drink that lasts 30 minutes and can be increased to 50 for 3 hours and 20 minutes of 50% more xp per batch of 4 i make
ESO is way better then the great ESO start, I still remember how empty and soulless it all was. Now that it had some new systems it’s enjoyable enough to overlook its bad parts.
You should Gw2 a try also! Such a great MMO!
ESO Minion - It consolidates all your mods into one place. Use it.
GW2!
Nothing beats Elder scrolls lore that's why i can't get into other MMO's. Also GW2 UI is awful and text font just burns my eyes.
@@hannes0000 It's okay to be wrong.
One of my cons is that although it is small but for one game 500GB is barley enough
The Combat. It's really bad. The floatiness. Lack of Impact. The movement of the character also feels like an insect moving sideways with 8 legs.
Can't believe they made a game with rich lore and graphics and messed up the combat system.
Tried to get back into it. Can’t link my account, can’t create a new account. So not this time
It really hurts to see you recast DOTs. 😂
The clips are from a very wide time range. I basically played in Jan and in August, so I forgot a lot of things sadly
Boosteroid's affordability is unmatched. Great service for a great price
@@1Apep1 I was doing it most of the time, relatively easy.... Was it really intended though?
@@jayoddity Yes, devs explicitly confirmed that animation cancelling was put in intentionally.
@@1Apep1 I don't think links work but can you source me? Just curious, not like I said with certainty in the video, just interested
@@jayoddity I will try to find something in writing, but it may have only been verbal statements at events/conventions.
@@1Apep1 it's all good. Just everything I could find said it was not originally intended....I mean really it doesn't matter, some people hate it
Love eso but I do think combat is not the best part its ok not grate or bad its medium cookt 🎉🎉❤❤thanks for cover my favorit mmorpg of all time
is the MEGA server getting better? i play from Singapore and with good internet and my ping is like 300 in both eu and na server. i keep buy dlc but wont play until they put sea server
¨Combat feels like a wet noodle¨
Just a tip: Dont run around with 0 penetration :p having some penetration would drastically increase your dmg
I dont think there's penetration in this game
I played ESO for about 500 hours during Covid. Game really scratched an itch for me, and I had such a good time. However, the biggest pitfall of ESO is by far the combat. Its a shame because every other aspect of ESO is really solid.
The sewers and campaign are fun pvp modes
BEST GAME EVER!!! PVP RULES THE REALMS IN THIS GAME🔥NO WET NOODLES IN ENDGAME🔥
The state of ESO servers disagree.
I loved ESO until the servers started kicking me off for no reason. Was forced out by the game.
This game was way too confusing for me. Like I don’t know how to follow the quests cuz of the open world. I just end up getting lost. Any tips?
In Journal you have on active quest "Show on Map" option what pin point where to go. Useful when compas get confused bc location is outside doors or separate area (like its show docks bc next objective is in another alliance or its in map locked behing story like Artaeum or Coldharbour)
A little correction: dungeons and trials don't scale to your level.
@@silaf1496 no idea about trails but I was doing dungeons with max level players early on....
Yeah everything scales
@@jayoddity Yes you can play with allies of different levels but the dungeon difficulty stay the same. If you enter fungal grotto at level 10 or at level 3600cp the dungeon is the same.
Scaling falls off when you get into veteran runs and Maelstrom. Biggest issue for me is the armour it looks meh.
Also Zenimax ! If you're going to show characters with cloaks in your cinematics add them in the dam game !
Guild wars 2 vs ESO, which one is better?
Dark Age of Camelot
I'm vehemently against monthly subs. So, is this game worth playing as someone that will never pay for ESO+ or should I stick with Guild Wars and GW2?
Just to say was maxed out graphically on a 4070 super
ESO is a good time.
Great game
Is elder scrolls 1 game? I saw names as morrowind etc come by, is that a expansion?
ESO+ also gives access to ALL of the DLC/patches added between expansions. There is so many of them at this point that buying them with one-time purchase would lead to hundreds of $ so ESO+ is mandatory for more "serious" players.
The 2014 combat system and the level scaling ruins it for me.
I honestly think eso is perfect for people who love elder scrolls in general, I was playing Skyrim but I get bored now because I’ve played the game so much, I was hesitant about eso because I didnt really care for online stuff but now that I’ve given it a shot it’s actually perfect for me
Graphics looks a lot prettier on console
it's the "muwwuwimb" guy!
