Very informative, thanks for putting this up. Asatru/Heathenry gets a pretty bad rep even when compared to some other new religious movements but I'm hopeful that perception will begin to turn around with time.
Thank you for watching. For sure, and it's truly a beautiful religion. There's always going to be a few who give the whole group a bad name, but it's really about you and your path that matters. We don't practice to impress people. I think it will change in time. It has definitely gotten better than it was 100 years ago and I think it will only become more acceptable as time goes on. Thanks again!
The only thing bad is it's full of woke people who want to be a part of something. Prison Odinism is pretty much non existent in the outside world. "Normal " people into their native spiritually is few and far between.
That's really cool. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I did get into black metal, but it's not my favorite genre of metal. Amon Amarth is my favorite band. Although they don't categorize themselves as viking metal, I'm pretty sure a lot of folks would categorize them as such.
This is the issue with Asatru and why it gets laughed at and labelled a STG by prison admin. I'd be willing to bed that probably 95% of the guys who start following/participating while in prison didn't even know what Asatru even existed before they got locked up. I'm sure that staff have a hard time believing that these guys are finding and adopting a new faith while in prison and doing so with only good intentions. Personally, I find it hard to believe as well. While I know that there are guys who truly believe in this stuff, I personally believe that about 75% of them are following just to be a part of something. It is just like the muslim groups for the black guys in most prisons. They don't want to join a gang, but they don't want to be alone. So joining a faith-based group is the next best thing. Another reason a lot of guys join up with the muslims in prison is because they have bad charges...and certain muslim groups twist a certain passage from the koran that sound like 'your perversions are wiped clean when you join' (in layman's wording). So they join to hide out and be protected. Again...not all..and I'm not saying that Asatru protects guys likke this..I"m just talking about why some guys join faith based groups while locked up. Numbers, being a part of something, protection...and for some, true belief...but in my opinion, those with true belief are in the minority. When they are released, I'm willing to bet that over 3/4s disregard their faith at the door.
That is exactly why a lot of guys join faith-based groups in prison. I said more or less the same thing in another video about prison religion. A lot of people just want to belong.
I left Christianity back in 1996 to my mother's horror and became an Asatroende to my father's delight. My grandfather was Nordic and i can remember he had Hugin and Munin wall sculpture in his garage back the 80's. I call it brotherhood.
I'm just now seeing this. I agree, it'd be a shame if someone couldn't practice their religion, if they've been locked up. Unfortunately, it looks like a few bad apples are ruining it for the good ones. To me, that's not right.
It’s a spiritual belief, gangs have no honour and the the individuals who have no place in this spirituality, unless it actually helps rehabilitate you! Don’t drag the runes and gods into your criminality!
When I got to hutch they approached me and another guy when we hit the east unit. We walked the yard for few days talking about it. Some guys did really believe it but other guys saw it as a group for protection. I saw it more as a gang honestly. They wanted to be shot callers when I was in Lansing towards the end of my time. They tried claiming tables in the chow hall one day after no one had been claiming anything as white guys. We just made choosing sit together but they didn't run it. I seen guys I won't say names but man they had cases that I wouldn't have associated with them.
The dynamics changed a little bit in Lansing. They got their tables. Towards the end of my time, the ABs were taking them off the yard in Lansing though. I've run across dudes in several groups who had really bad cases. It's kinda messed up when they portray themselves as super solid and you find out they have a bad-bad sex case.
I find it interesting how much push bag from Asatru specifically and in general Germanic Paganism. I am not asatru but I am a modern Germanic/Norse Pagan. I am German and Irish decent so i know with the prison version of Asatru i wouldn't be the one they quickly accept either. I do have issues with more the AFA and in general the "ethnic gatekeeping" of some Asatru groups. However all religions have their bad apples. Though I worked a little with KDOC but at the time it was purely for medical work so I haven't seen this during that time.
Checking in refers to protective custody. It's when a prisoner tells a guard or other staff member that they don't feel safe. So, they get put in the hole.
I would imagine Norse religions are pretty popular in that environment. Are you a military guy then? I only ask because I have a lot of respect for people who are in the military or who served in the past.
Egyptians let Nazi Germany destroy one of their most holy of symbols, the swastika, aka the symbol of the sun in Egyptian mythology. I'll never let anyone ruin the symbols of my people, Norsemen, Åsatruende, Scandinavian, call it what you want.

I love your videos man! Keep up the good work
Thank you for watching! Will do!
Q: Your thoughts on the Delphy case?
Im swedish too man. Interesting video. Did you ever get into black metal or viking metal? Many bands talk about Norse religion in their lyrics.

I believe in certain freedoms, such as freedom of faith and freedom of enjoyment with certain restrictions.
Me too. I think people should be able to believe what they want to believe.

14:05 What did you mean by 'checking in'?
Was curious on this too
Checking in refers to protective custody. It's when a prisoner tells a guard or other staff member that they don't feel safe. So, they get put in the hole.
@@EricSwanson1 Ah; thank you.
Are there any Jesus gangs? Maybe called the 12 disciples or something? How rich would that be? Preach peace and crucifying guys for their sins
Lol, sadly no. That sounds like the plot of a Deicide song.
Interesting. A lot of Norse mythology in the military.
I would imagine Norse religions are pretty popular in that environment. Are you a military guy then? I only ask because I have a lot of respect for people who are in the military or who served in the past.
my 2 friends are Anglo-Saxon Pagan and in the U.S Navy
Lmao the 1970s…. Bro we were around before Christianity

I think that I remember you from
LCF
I played guitar in a few shows there.
Hail wotan
Bro I’m from VA and let me tell you the only people who went to Asatru Were Ab and An or any other racist gangs.Your trying to play it a certain way
its a Religion for White Men, and the AB are the only whites who are not race-traitors
I’m from va also and I just came home from prison and not all members of the kindred are AB.
I think Prison-Odin is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills lames and doesnt afraid of anything.
