Exactlyyy... Just finished my first year of engineering school which is supposed to be the year to make friends, take part in clubs, etc, but it's just been all online and I haven't met 90% of my coursemates or professors in real life yet. Heading into my 2nd year in 2 months, and I can't see offline classes being held until at least mid-way through the academic year. Chances are, when I personally get to experience university for real, it'll just be a hard grind for exams and off into the working world it is...

Sound super similar to the comment above.
yes, I agree
I’m nearing the end of my teenage years - one piece of advice I’ve learned is that it’s okay to change your mind and not everything needs to be done with the intent of impressing people. Do it because you love it, and you’ll be happy. Do it for others, and you’ll be miserable.
Ali: “Take photos with your friends at university”
Me: * nods while in my 100th zoom session *
🙂

one thing i love about Ali is that he's so intelligent yet he never makes me feel stupid, he's not gatekeeping his knowledge he's spreading it further. He always explains things in such a kind way - it's very encouraging!

Yes!
I am 18 and at that stage where I am finishing school. I have decided to go against of the norm and not go to university so I can chase my dream of content creating, but watching this has still helped and motivated me massively for the actions I should take and how I should think. Thank you so much man for this video, and I hope that everyone achieves their dreams and lives a good life!
Good luck in achieving your goals! :)
You got this!!!🥰
Good luck man!! You got this no matter what anybody says!
You can do it brother 🤝
Of course!
I’m a 13 yr. girl, just trying to succeed in life I’ve been having a lot of negative thoughts and lately I’ve been searching for resources and things to help me advance and prosper this video really helped me.
Focus on yourself and self improve, it all starts with you, go within not withiut
Honestly try a break from the greater world; you're so exposed to everything going on in the world due to technology & as well as the usual teenage anxieties it has really caused a huge spike in anxiety in young girls. Focus on what makes you happy- Do the cheesy movie stuff- even just a face routine, candles & a movie to give yourself time to be in the moment can really make a difference, even if it's just short term (:
Important tip: do not let randos on the internet affect you. Dont believe everything you see on the internet: People like influencers and celebrities, hell even just your friends, they only share the good things that happen to them online. So do not let them bring you down just because you think everyone else has a good life.

I never comment in UA-cam videos, but this one deserves, even if no one sees it

I became the best student for a short period of time, and now I skip lectures, go to coffee shops and revise them and my life keeps on going fine

So what if you don't have any friends? Ouch.
If this video and comment didn't exist I'll probably have less friends in the future, I'm lowkey shy and anxious but I'll try to open up, trust people and giving people a chance. After all we humans make mistakes.
Wow! These are actually really helpful advices!
Not just the same thoughts most of the youtubers/tiktokers are saying all the time.
I yould actually use some of them and they make sense!
Thank you!😁
I’m 18 and i’ve been watching your videos for two years now. Honestly you’re such a comfort. thank you so much for freely spreading around information and encouraging each of us kindly to live a better life, no matter how small of changes we implement!
Being a 13yr old and watching this,
Man I'll never waste my teenage years.
I got a good headstart.👌👌😚☺️
I’m 14 and I’m binge watching all these types of videos 😅 thankfully there is no such things as getting an early head start
I wish I was looking at this stuff at your age, you're smart for trying to get ahead. Wishing you the best!
Absolutely do these things i’m 16 and I already regret not dong some of these
you are so lucky, a lot of these tips still apply to highschool. good luck!
No bc same for everything
You can already tell he’s gonna become a wonderful dad
I am 13 and I'm watching these types of videos because I want to nurture myself. I am so glad I am doing these things at such a pretty young age. And, also, I am helping myself to learn, grow and improve no matter the circumstances.
So, thank you for posting this video, for spreading your knowledge and for not making us feel brainless. 😭👏
Doing a lot of these things made me feel so much better about myself within the past year. I’ll be going into my first year of high school this fall and I’m absolutely terrified, but I’m sure I’ll find my way to enjoy it. Just being me and actually talking to people during and after classes has heavily helped me get more confident. I’ve made so many people laugh with just the normal things I think and say and every time I think to myself, “why wasn’t I like this sooner in my life?” I wear what I want, I listen to what I want, and I express the interests I want to express. Yeah, some of it is embarrassing, but I think it’s just the middle school ‘I need people to like me’ mindset, who cares about what I read, I’m just enjoying it. I describe myself as someone who a lot of people know but not a lot of people really talk to me. I have a decently noticeable stutter and I used to hate speaking because of it, but now I’m doing skits in class and being the most confident in my group. It’s never too early or too late to be yourself.
My biggest advice for my 18 year old self? Enjoy life. I don’t think I nearly enjoyed being a young adult as much as I could have. Life is too short to be stressed and worried about growing up. By all means, I don’t mean be stupid and waste all your money… but just live in the moment and appreciate the beauty of life!
yup 💯
That's an advice for your every year old self
It's not only an advice for your 18 year old self but also for now. Enjoy everyday of your life.
@@moraz72 Now I unfortunately have the stress of building my career and saving for my future! I do try and enjoy life now but I had a better opportunity to live at 18!

What you're doing is an amazing job. You're crisp and clear and I've learnt a lot from this video. Feeling more confident for Uni. Thanks😊
i felt like my high school years were wasted. I was so focused on working hard and getting into university, that I let all the memories slip away. Ali is correct when he says that the extra percentage isn't worth it. Getting good grades feels pointless when you have no friends
Update: one of my only “friends” just lied to me and tried hijaking my application portal.
i'm 16 and I'm watching my high school years slip away but idk what to do abt it, idk how to make friends
Jesus man, I almost cried reading this as I'm 19 and I just finished my first semester in college. Reminiscing about high school and my first semester, I realize that I also didn't have any friends. I just did my damn work when I should have made use of my time socializing. I'm constantly surrounded by people but I've never felt more alone
@@sentrazyven762 I’m 19 and about to enter my second semester of sophomore year. I still haven’t figured it out bro. I have no friends. When I see Ali mention that these are supposed to be the best years of your life I wonder what I’m doing wrong because I’m not an introverted person.
UPDATE: (2/10/2022) I really put myself out there and I managed to find 3 friends through this business frat. I literally didn’t wanna go but because my major requires that I network I actually got to find some hobbies with these people and we got lunch from there and really had a lot in common. One piece of advice is to look for areas where people share your interests (Like a running club if you like track, or a music group if you’re passionate about singing) because you’ll be more likely to find actual people who seem more down to earth than the people you pass by at school from class to class. Also I thinking pushing myself out of my comfort zone helped a bunch. I’m going to go to a party tonight and I’m actually pretty excited to meet more people. Good luck to everyone who hasn’t had the opportunity or felt like they are alone, I know what it feels like and you can get through it with some effort! :)
@@claraishungry501 It's okay, I made 2 new friends in high school and I'm 16 too!
Reading this makes me realize how much harder it's become to make TRUE friends and connections.
I'm over 10 years out of college, but that's where I made my life long friends -- friends that are still in my life today. I have 2 friends that I keep in real contact from middle school into high school and til now i.e. not just through Facebook.
The most solid advise I can give to making friends is to not be afraid to just talk randomly to anyone about anything, especially those you share classes. Also, don't be afraid of rejection. You're not going to like everyone and not everyone will like you. And it is okay to not continue a friendship with someone if they turn out to be toxic. The goal is to find people who enhance your life, not who detract from it. Hugs!

Edit: after rewatch int the video and listening to some follow up comments, I have come to realize just how much I have an how blessed I am❤️ To anyone struggling out there (with what I said above), take a minute to write down a list of things you are grateful for and you will instantly be put in a better headspace :) I know how tough and challenging it can be, and I just want you to know that you’re not alone❤️ I love you guys
did u just copy a 9 month old comment?
Yes.. a half of my sophomore year + my whole senior year in high school have been on zoom and I just felt so robbed out of my teenage years. It’s been really difficult to get back on track and start to actually make memories again because I felt I was on hold for so long.
What sucks even more is that the first year of my uni will also be online:)
i'm literally watching this video bc i'm trying to hear some advice since i'm dealing with the same thing in Uni. this year was my first year in uni and it went by sooooo quickly bc of covid. i literally don't know what happened this year, i feel like i've enjoyed nothing nor have i learnt much. *sigh
University is not the best years of your life. Every year is what you make of it, and don’t put so much pressure on yourself to enjoy school life to the fullest. I hate when they talk about *insert period of life here* as if it’s supposed to be the best time of your life. University life is dull compared to where I’m at now, married to the love of my life and talking about building our dream home. I’m happier now than I ever was in high school or college.
im in uni rn and its def not the best years of my life...hell naw...I have zero autonomy over myself. When I graduate and finally work in my dream field those will be my best years. so dw about it
It's insane how much information is out there for teenagers now. Optimal methods to learn and navigate in life. I wish I had these tools 10 years ago

Watching this video makes me want to go to college even when i'm done with it just to keep myself happy (cuz these have been, and i'll admit, the happiest years of my life yet) and the thought of staying in your childhood and staying young and making new friends in school sounds like the perfect life to me. If studying a lot is what it takes to keep it, then so be it. besides when im done with college hopefully, passing the school years wont be something that i have to worry about so that's even better.
This is honestly really useful information and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! I really appreciate this!!
Ali's advice: (random order)
1. Ask for forgiveness, not permission (just do it!)
2. Ask yourself: am I still playing the game I wanted to play
3. Journey before destination (enjoy the friendship)
4. No one is judging you
5. Think about what you can control and not things outside of your control
7. Don't be mean to others
8. Keep your "door" open
9. Take more photos for memory
10. Don't overestimate the difficulty of something - the worst enemy is the fear itself
11. Learn how to study efficiently
12. Passive income (making money while gaining experience)
13. Buy some bitcoins and don't sell them [questionable advice]
14. Be the "connector"
15. It's okay to fall behind during term time
16. It's okay to not go to lectures
17. See exams/tests as a collective enemy for you and your friends, do not "fight" alone
18. Expose yourself more to others
19. Internalisation > inputs (converting something you read to a part of yourself)
My advice:
1. Be happy
2. Step outside of your comfort zone
3. nourish yourself with God's words
THANK YOU!!
🙌
The reason behind the bitcoin advice is that the video talks about advices Ali would give to his 18 year old self, really not an investing suggestion

Advice for my 18 year old self: You are going to fail on lots of occasions and it is okay. Infact, it is more than okay, it is inevitable. Instead of beating yourself up, remember that these failures will dramatically increase your chances of success further down the line as long as you learn from each failure.

Ok
I was in the same place a few months ago, trust me uni is not as bad as your brain will make it seem. If you need to get informed on what you're getting yourself into, do it ! You're gonna need that reassurance.
@@nothingbutdrizzle make sure your degree is something of use. And not be an individual who wastes years of his life and thousands of dollars for a piece of paper that is useless.

We need a new video titled "How to waste a day PRODUCTIVELY".
No joke this would actually be such an interesting video. What does he do on a break day that doesn’t involve work or classes to still not feel miserable at the end of it?
I told someone earlier to stop giving him such ideas 💡
This is by far the best video I‘ve seen for a long time. I‘m really flashed right now. Thank you so much!!
Man I'm really glad that I've been doing some of the things you're mentioning rn, like I've been literally just trying to improve my skills at drawing pretty much every day, I somehow already get that this grind will eventually pay off, and other things. I kinda wish I did it earlier, but at least I'm already doing it.
When Ali ends with “have a great life”, I felt that.
"God grant me strength to accept things which i can not control , the courage to change what i can, and wisdom to know difference" Very true, there are so many things we can control and work toward it and there are huge number of things which we can't, but majority among us worry about what we can't. That line is pure wisdom.
I'm almost 16, a deep overthinker, and I very much needed this. Thank you.
You made my day!Honestly it felt like talking to a friend while watching this video.keep going
Immediately sat up straight the second he mentioned posture lol
I am 21 and I wished I told my 18 year old self this. However, I am still in my University period so I can still make the most out of it. As much as sitting indoors is fun, going out to experience while you have youth and energy on your side is better than doing it when you are 50 and regretting it due to health problems.
I need to keep this in mind. I am typically that lay in bed kinda guy, so I really need to start taking advantage of my youth and going on when I can.
This is great content. Gave me a lot of clarity. Starting uni tomorrow, wish me luck
i found this video on my explore page and i don’t regret clicking because in these few minutes i’ve learnt so much more than i could ever learn. thank you for sharing with us!
I am 43, I just realised this: I like being lectured on wise things and Ali is so very wise, I proudly consider him my spiritual teacher. :)
:)
I alhamdulillah don't stressed about things which are not in my control;, I leave them to Allah and just do Dua about it.. That's one of my most relaxing parts of being Born as Muslim and Living by it Proudly, thanks
Exactly, no point stressing over the things where you can't influence the outcome 🙌🏾
Agree!! Believing in fate as a Muslim surely relaxes so much
@eu en you're absolutely right about that but I think OP is referring to things in life where we as individuals can't do too much to influence the outcome. To get good academic results, like you say, one must put in the effort to study because that's a variable that we can control and should control. Not studying and leaving it all up to the powers of prayer....you're only kidding yourself in that situation :) I often times here Muslim folk use the cop out 'if it was written for me then it is bound to happen' and this way they sell themselves short by refusing to do the absolute minimum to influence the outcome! We try our absolute best and the rest is in God's control 🙌🏾
@eu en right but AFTER you study and give your best, its not necessary that you'll get, for example, your favorite college!! In that case, being a Muslim and believing that Allah has planned something better for me than this college; helps alot😊
@eu en I'm actually an exception then.
2:36 would also like to add: journal if you can!! I’m only in high school now, but I journaled much of my middle school and high school life to look back on. Not only is it fun to read about the happy moments, but I’ve also learned so much about myself and like to see how I’ve grown from my not-so-good moments!
Incredibly true
I love the fact you made a tl:dw in the description, i think your advice is great
"Your surface area for serendipity will increase." That's a beautiful quote.
Thanks Ali. I'm a year out from college and will remember that. It struck me the minute I heard it. Really meaningful.
🤗🤗🤗
When I see videos like these I always get jealous over the dorm system of their universities... in my country everyone goes to the uni that they're the closest to and we still live with our parents, which is nice, but I can't help but think about how many more people I would be meeting if I lived in a room next to so many other students.

thank you so much for this video! Really appreciate it and I will make sure to keep these in mind for my teenage years (and possibly later years)
“Increases your surface area for serendipity” - I’m gonna write this one down ✍️
I don't know why and how, but from the first minute I felt a huge smile settling down on my face and I smiled throughout the whole video.
Your recent videos are so wholesome, Ali. Thanks for the amazing content you put out to share with us. Hopefully we are worth it.

Point 14: What i learnt through my years is, when we dive into something.. we eventually find our way through it. So do not worry about the depths just dive in.
Good advice
As an 18-year-old watching this, I feel very encouraged because I already do a lot of these things! Thank you for making such a brilliant and beautiful video.
You can do everything what you want

It’s a great feeling to see all these wonderful advices given to all the first year students out there. I wish I’d recevie these advices when I was in my first year. And oh boi, he hits right back home with these, I was going “me too” on 75% of the advices. Good content. Great story teller.

One of the best videos I've ever seen in my whole life. Thank you very much for it, Ali. I'm 25 in 4/6 Medical College and I would definitely had told it to myself. The best part of it is that we still have time to change. Thanks for that!
