Thats awful to see so many equines and knowing what a horrible end many are going to have. Those sad eyes, statved and so neglected hooves - I cant watch sometimes, it gets to me so badly. You guys do such a valuable work. I wish I had money.
I am so shocked to see so many😢 in Germany we don't have auctions, only for the very expensive horses. The price of horses is so expensive to buy so people seem to be keeping their horses and looking after them more because they just can't afford to buy a new one. How can people buy horses and just send them off to auctions knowing they will most likely get sent to slaughter. It's so heartbreaking and never ending 😢
@@charlotterockel-kennedy8913 Americans do the same thing with all kinds of animals, dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, llamas, alpacas, ferrets, skunks, opposums, raccoons, snakes, reptiles, fish, wild cats, like cougars and lynx, lions and tigers, cheetahs, bears, chimpanzees, smaller monkeys, even a few elephants, every possible kind of animal. That is the reason i strongly believe anyone who abuses any animal those people should be treated the same exact way they treated these wonderful babies. But people are too kind hearted to accept the truth and oh yeah give them a break, i say no! Hey guys. I am so happy you guys save seventeen horses 🐎🐎🐎 And Marrmack is funny little mule. He definitely knows something fishy. All my 💕🥰❤️🤗💖😘 to all.
As a UK viewer I was shocked at the obvious and atrocious lack of treatment to which some of these equines had been subjected. Here in the UK such treatment would amount to a legal charge of ‘animal cruelty’ and attract either prison sentences / stiff fines / or banes on keeping animals - or any combination of such punishment. This prompts some question, ie: - 1) what, if any, federal laws are there covering animal welfare in the USA? 2) How well are these enforced? 3) Is there a movement/s to advocate for animal welfare, especially equines, in the USA? Your films are really quite eye opening to the widespread extent of equine abuse and also the extent of care which you guys provide. I’m especially impressed by Pauli’s & the vets skills too. worked at a feral pony ranch in the 90's in hinckley minnesota.. hest way to catch a feral pony is 2 to 3 people on a lunge line, stretch it out about chest high... as he tries to cross it it catches his neck.. the people cross and move forward slowly and you end up with rope around his neck to either lead that way or halter next... hope that helps... other way i s a lasso around a 5 gallon bucket with feed if you can offer off a hay wagon even better but not necessary... as he reached for the feed he cannot see you because the bucket is so deep.. slip lasso over then you can lead or put on halter.. both of these method's worked well and less stress on both people and pony/horse

Of course theres amish people at the auction!! This is absolutely ridiculous, i prey that most horses in this auction were sold to caring people and not the amish or other horrible beings
Maybe the horse (sunny?) you cannot lift the hind legs has something going on with her udder? It looks swollen to me and might hurt when Pauly lift her Hooves to the back.
Basically, yes. Since they don't pay taxes and don't recognize the government, the local law basically leaves everything to be handled within their church communities. The USDA has issued many warnings for the numerous puppy mills they run in Iowa. They treat animals as being disposable commodity. Breed and sell, get the money and ignore everything else.
Is this auction run by the Amish? I see quite a few in the ring while bidding is going on. That sect never fails to surprise me. Out in Oklahoma they farm with tractors and go the “English “ they call us and cut and bale the hay field for a price per field.
@@PonyTalesRefuge I live nearby this auction (15 minutes south). It's located in the largest Amish settlement west of the Mississippi. The Amish/Mennonites do basically everything but own the auction. What is so sad is that they are notorious for animal abuse but are hardly ever punished for it. Think small town old boys club. There's usually a story in the news a few times a year about the puppy farms they run. It's disgusting how they treat animals. They are a disposable commodity to them. Thank you for doing everything you can for these beautiful animals. ❤️❤️
I’ve seen horses getting shoes and trims for about 60 yrs…yes, Pauly is a nice guy…sure…but he’s what my farrier a drama Queen..his approach is downright funny…I hope he never loses his sense of humor….

When the "loose" or "end of halter" horses are dumped, there are likely people who feel bad, which is why they leave them with no history. However, they obviously don't care enough as they are easily replaceable with a dollar bill.
So basically, go to the auction late, to save those that aren't sold quick.. 😢 When there are fewer buyers, and therefore lower prices, and hopefully you can save more for less. ❤
Through the lens of a camera, it is hard to show the strength of a horse. Tazio ripping the stock apart definitely showed the danger a horse can cause. It scared me and I am on this side of the channel.
If it could only work like that. We bid on any horse below slaughter and they come through at all times during the auction. Even in the consigned ring. They may get cheaper at the end, but what about the ones before them? We can't say no to them just because they don't go quite as cheap. :-/
Put a dog collar on the back leg and a rubber car tube on her neck and you use a cotton rope you tie on the dog collar then you put it through the rubber car tube you tie it on the car tube and you tie it up with her just being able to put her toe resting on the ground and you let her fight against her self as they can not hurt them self’s I had to do that to two of my horses as they had broken my foot after I had pins put in my right foot and the farrier was the one who showed me how to tie them up with out them hurting them self’s
Who are all these people who treat their horses like this? I don't understand... It's so many? Is it cultural? I mean, you wouldn't want people to see your horse if you had mistreated it like that... Why isn't animal control there? You're doing a great job; it must be absolute heartbreaking to be at these auctions. Horses and their kind eyes looking at you, I would want to take them all. Lastly - real question, don't shoot me - but I see a lot of Amish there. Is this a way for them to find horses for cheap? Or do their horses end up at the auctions, looking like that... The latter was sort of indicated in another video (so don't shoot the messenger; you have to tip toe and dance around things today, don't you, lest someone get _offended._ (Even if that something is true.) If so, is it _Christan_ to treat your animals like that? I'd like to know.
I really cannot imagine the straps over their torso and legs straps…..you’re working on prey animals and they’re seriously troubled horses that you have ZERO idea of what their backgrounds are. Dangerous as can be and that’s for all involved. I’m sure you have received as many horses with myriads of issues. Some are going to fight it, some are resigned to any stimuli, some are just docile and or/too weak to fight. While I applaud the overall rescue and your facilities look quite nice, I can’t help but think of the needless situations you’re all getting into.
I watch and love HPHS, and ever since you guys won the sponsorship, Ive been trying really hard to connect with y'all. Love your mission, but dont like seeing you in the parking lot, saying your out of money, yet showing all of us all the horses at the auction that are going for $100 bucks.... basically telling us that THEY are all going to slaughter! I totally understand running out of funds, but I don't know why you insist on showing us all the horses that are going to die a horrific death! Skip showing us anymore after you've run out of donations! I dont want to look into the eyes of a horse that I know is going to die! Just my 2 cents. Blessings to all 🙌 Jennifer......P.S. I really do love what your trying to do, but cant subscribe until you change that part. Sorry 😔
@@radgalut How dare you call me ignorant!! I bred, raised, broke, and showed registered quarter/paints for over 20+years of my life!! It makes a lot of people feel bad 😞 like they have to reach into their pockets for a little more! When your running a business ON DONATIONS, you shouldn't make people feel bad! If it could only work like that. We bid on any horse below slaughter and they come through at all times during the auction. Even in the consigned ring. They may get cheaper at the end, but what about the ones before them? We can't say no to them just because they don't go quite as cheap. :-/
@@PonyTalesRefuge I understand. Damned if you do, damned if ya dont. Hate catch 22
Hmmm, maybe you shouldn't have said the words 'Castrations" in front of Jack and the other males...
Sorry 😔
So you would rather remain ignorant about how it ends for the remaining horses. Honesty is not always pretty but it is reality.
@@radgalut How dare you call me ignorant!! I bred, raised, broke, and showed registered quarter/paints for over 20+years of my life!! I KNOW what happens to the unwanted, but it doesn't mean I have to watch it! All I said, was when they RUN OUT OF DONATIONS.....STOP showing the remainder of the horses! It makes a lot of people feel bad 😞 like they have to reach into their pockets for a little more! When your running a business ON DONATIONS, you shouldn't make people feel bad! That's ALL I was saying. Other rescues I DONATE TO, don't make me feel like that! You need to re-read the protocol on how to leave a comment, because that was extremely rude of you to speak to me in that manner! Hope you have a nice day, cause you've succeeded in ruining mine! All because I made a suggestion....WOW!! 😧😧
