I feel like a drunken dad just saw his son playing army, samurai, robots, and dinosaurs toys and imagined a universe about that and just couldn't forget the story so he made a video game about it.
If you think about it, this game is actually a kind of existentialist horror. The moment time travel gets invented, the war becomes non-linear in time, meaning it can never truly end because any defeat can be undone, and an attack can be staged at any point in time before or after hostilities have "ended" in any given timeline.
As far as the 'people' are concerned, I'm fairly sure they wouldn't feel the change. Some are literally unborn while others are entirely altered by history. What is certain however, is that time will be utterly destroyed once the first jump is made. There will be more time as the future loses its meaning by becoming tangible. So yeah, you're point is made and I'll add that time travel no matter how small will screw us all.
Theres actually a really crazy and cool game called Achron which integrates time travel into a RTS. You can basically go back in time in the game to move units somewhere if you find yourself getting flanked in the present for example. The game updates temporal changes every few minutes, so you have time to counter any past moves made by your opponent. Its a really fun game thats hampered by poor development of every feature outside of the time travel mechanic, and the difficulty of understanding how it works.
There's a book called This Is How You Lose The Time War where the two main characters are combatants on either sides of a war like the one you're describing. It's not a war book so to speak, but the descriptions of the workings of the war effort from both sides are fascinating. Highly reccomended.
I would not be surprised if that was the inspiration for Yuri, and then they just decide to go and logically foll what a guy with such powerful mind control would do.

The Tiberium games were the first C&C games I played and I remember picking up the case and looking at the back and seeing the list of actors they had. Then I went home and saw the actors they had in the previous games like Red Alert and remember thinking “they really are shelling out money for big time actors to do the cheesiest cutscenes for a game?” They ruined celebrities in games for me like Kevin Spacey in COD because C&C will always be the most memorable for how cheesy they were but also how much charm they added to the game.
I didn't realize just how much talent was actually in these cutscenes. Sure, i knew about Tim Curry (and the sheer hilarity of the "SPAYCE!" line), but JK Simmons? Peter Stormare? George Takei? Udo Kier?

The funny thing with the Empire's campaign is that despite them being THE bad guys in RE3, there is no internal betrayal while both Allies and Soviets have that left and right.

They won't make a Red Alert 4, because it would involve an Einstein, pissed off at what the world has become, traveling back in time to prevent Hitler's death and mentoring him.
Maybe this time he'll go back in time and just kill Taft so that Teddy can stomp Wilson from winning the election, thus altering the outcome of WW1 enough to prevent Hitler's rise to power.
red alert 3 was the defining game of my childhood. i literally never understood the plot at all but i have many fond memories of the versus gamemodes and doing some wacky strategies (like being able to overrun an entire base from minute 5 with just a bunch of peacekeepers). revisiting it now and refreshing the wacky plot and everything else, ahhh the nostalgia

It's worth pointing out that the soviets actually planned to go all across Europe in 1920 but got stopped around warsaw. World revolution and conquering germany was pretty openly their plan towards the conclusion of the russian civil war

Let's all be honest with ourselves. Red alert 1 split into two timelines based on who won. Allies winning leads to the Red Alert series and the Soviets winning leads to the Tiberium series, with Kane making a cameo at the end of the Soviet Campaign. We can assume he brought Tiberium here and he dies or leaves the planet somehow in the Allies campaign.
There was a cancelled game that was going to bridge RA2 and C&C1. They released some assets of the game. Was going to have a faction called the Scavengers, if my memory is correct.
@@zdeadfalloutxx8084 But the video mentioned Rivals. I didn't even know it was POSSIBLE to make a worse game than TT, but apparently EA proved me wrong last year.
I can't believe I'm just now seeing this. C&C had the most wonderfully shrooms-inspired stories and fuck-it performances by great actors you could possibly stick into a video game franchise. It was so, so great, precisely because of its Escape from LA ludicrousness. What would happen in The Asylum made video games? We don't need to know: it's already happened.
I clearly remember that mission, it’s the Soviet campaign. You don’t have to destroy them, I just garrisoned them to use for defense. And yes, I played the game after 9/11 though I didn’t connect the dots until years later. Still a cool mission though and really made the pre-9/11 world real for me.
@Irongutz If Einstein kills Hitler, then time changes so Einstein doesn't need to go back and killer Hitler, so Hitler remains alive. Which might prompt Einstein to go back in time and kill him, which means Hitler never lived so Einstein doesn't go back in time, which means Hitler lives [....] But regarding your question, what if they killed Einstein after he killed Hitler?
actually happened in a hoi4 game where germany joined the allies, and ww2 was allies vs commies, then (sorta) ww3 between the allies (and russia) vs the roman empire of italy & hungary vs poland that somehow decided declaring war on everyone was a brilliant plan
I thought It would be more interesting if the Pope reforms the papal states and launches a crusade against the heretics (the allies), godless atheists (Soviets) and infidels (the Japanese Empire).
As crazy as these timelines are, you gotta had it to the creators for their casting. Tim Curry, and J.K. Simmons? Genius. Jenny McCarthy and George Takei? Inspired. Discount Wilford Brimley as the US General? Awesome. Well done, everyone.
I'm blown away by the cast. All perfect for their respective roles. And from a time when you played for the cut scenes as much as the game itself. I'd forgotten that scene with Tanya escaping the interrogation room. She was Red Alrerts Lara Croft.
I'm quite a few years late, but a friend of mine had worked at EA. They did draft plans for RA4 but they put it on hold indefinitely. Not much different, but knowing that somewhere in a file cabinet, exists early draft of RA4 still gives me some form of hope.
Is it strange that if they ever made a Red Alert 4 (I don’t see it happening but IF they did) I would love to see NC play Yuri? I mean… since RA2, Yuri’s Revenge, and 3 all repeated alternate versions of World War 3… and in the RA2 and Yuri’s revenge versions of the WWIII, Yuri was plotting conquest over the world… whatever happened to Yuri in the RA3 timeline?
There actually was another game-expansion thing similar to Yuri’s revenge that once again takes place after an allied victory but adds in the story of the Japanese commando, along with new campaigns for the 3 factions. Biggest thing to mention is that Japan gets a unit which is a floating fortress that turns into a flying head that shoots lazers
I remember the plan was to have two expansions, the first focusing on singleplayer and a second on multiplayer, but the second one was cancelled. That is why some units on the expansion are so broken, they were going to ballance it all on the multiplayer expansion.

It does actually have a strategic value. ignoring the morale value of it, Liberty, Ellis, and Governor's Islands are all right at the mouth of the Hudson River. fortifying them could prevent marine landings and naval support for an invasion from the Hudson.
Yes it is a shame EA were incapable of leaving a good formula alone for C&CRA3 and C&C4. instead of having exposed resorce operations which you have to defend lets have fixed resorse points which you just build a base arround, taking half the available tactics off the table for RA3 and lets completely do away with any kind of resorce harvesting for C&C4 I am not sure if this was extreme stupidity or just them deciding to kill off the franchise
Fun fact about Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge:- the guy who was cast as Yuri was German, so he said his lines in the German version of the game, thus saving Westwood Studios some money.
12:30 Dude, I know where your coming from but let's be honest. C&C 3 went for camp and they owned that niche. It was a really fun game but the story writers had the same goal as the folks who wrote Sharknado. They were not even in the Universe of trying to take themselves seriously, and they pulled it off, really well. That storyline was fun, and they had some decent gags.
@@Shotgun_Gospel RA2:YR Allies win -> Red Alert 3 The GDI was created in reaction to the rise of the Brotherhood of Nod, like the Allies exist in reaction to the Soviet Union. Yuri is neutralized and there is no sign of Kane or any other nemesis to justify a global force for now. (Unless Kane coming from nowhere to preach for a Tiberium revolution while recycling Yuri's tech... Would be fun xD) Another interesting stuff: Though Allies win is implied, RA3 plot is also somewhat compatible with RA2 (vanilla and YR) Soviets win timelines. USSR collapsed (for whatever reason), the Premier is gone (could be the Commander or Romanov), ambitious Colonel Cherdenko knows he can do better as Premier, so he goes back in time to kill Einstein and take power.
@@voyvode.tracks fun fact: there was actually supposed to be a sequel to command and conquer renegade that was supposed to tell the story of how the soviet union progressively became the brotherhood of NOD.
The Allied ending is considered canon in BOTH RA2 + RA3 (well until the second time travel that changes everything) as well as the Tiberium series. After the Allied victory they set up GDI. Setting up a Global Defense Agency was already mentioned in one of the Allies cut scenes, which was the forerunner of GDI. With a Soviet victory GDI would never have been established. If you think of Nod becoming rich and powerful because of Tiberium and it would have never landed on Earth, Nod would never have risen and this allows the route to RA2. But one could also think of there being no connection between RA and Tiberium series at all. IIRC there is no mention at all in TD, TS, TW or TT of the Allied-Soviet war. So although RA was originally planned to be a prequel to TD, RA2 and RA3 being released changed this. The Tiberium games could simply have the same history as real life in regards to WW2.

The Tiberium games were the first C&C games I played and I remember picking up the case and looking at the back and seeing the list of actors they had. Then I went home and saw the actors they had in the previous games like Red Alert and remember thinking “they really are shelling out money for big time actors to do the cheesiest cutscenes for a game?”
They ruined celebrities in games for me like Kevin Spacey in COD because C&C will always be the most memorable for how cheesy they were but also how much charm they added to the game.

12:30 Dude, I know where your coming from but let's be honest. C&C 3 went for camp and they owned that niche. It was a really fun game but the story writers had the same goal as the folks who wrote Sharknado. Ah... The game that got me into gaming... Such fond memories of C&C 1-3 and Red Alert 1-3.... God damn you EA! God damn you...!
You don't mention one cool stuff: Red Alert 1 is the root story of all C&C franchise.
Allies win -> Red Alert 2
Soviets win -> Command & Conquer 1
That or Yuri's Revenge. There's an offhand suggestion for a Global Defense Initiative while the Allies and Soviets are cooperating.
@@Shotgun_Gospel RA2:YR Allies win -> Red Alert 3
The GDI was created in reaction to the rise of the Brotherhood of Nod, like the Allies exist in reaction to the Soviet Union.
Yuri is neutralized and there is no sign of Kane or any other nemesis to justify a global force for now. (Unless Kane coming from nowhere to preach for a Tiberium revolution while recycling Yuri's tech... Would be fun xD)
Another interesting stuff: Though Allies win is implied, RA3 plot is also somewhat compatible with RA2 (vanilla and YR) Soviets win timelines.
@@fourclawrider True hadn't thought of it that way.
