It’s funnier knowing that no in fact he did not stand for trans rights and that the first books the Nazis burned were on gender / sexuality, a lot of which was lost for decades. Research about gender reassignment surgery as well. People either are ignorant to this or they don’t care but trans people (the few that were in Europe) were sent to concentration camps under the “homosexual” category

@@TheSwedishHistorian Asking the question "Did colonialism prevent Africa from industrializing or did it save Africans from continuing to live as barbarians" is pretty much on par with asking "Were the Nazis genocidal imperialists or were they trying to save civilization from the Judeo-Bolsheviks?". There isn't any academic debate to be had; there's a correct answer and there's a racist pseudohistorical narrative which rejects the answer which actual historians universally agreed upon.
In framing the scenario as if there are two 'extremes', he lent legitimacy to colonialist views; even if unintentionally. And using a picture of real-world Africans to visually represent "barbarism and tribalism" heavily implies that the colonialist narrative is, to at least some extent, true
Modern Cody recognizes that his decision to play into that "two sides" approach to the morality of colonialism was deeply racist, even though that was not his intention when making the video.

Yeah. Like, ten years ago FF7's remake would have been exciting. When it came, it was "Huh, okay, so just Midgar?" and then it was... alright. Like, it's about as good as the original in some ways and better in other worse in others still. It's a remake reboot thing and I guess it's fine.
But not fine enough to make me want a PS5 for Part 2 or even the updated version just now.

It all started when the land was divided in the later periods of the Portuguese Reconquista where large sways of land were given by the king to powerful nobles or Monastical orders.
After the end of the Religious Orders in Portugal in the 19th century, the abolishment of the Monarchy in 1910 and the Carnation Revolution in 1974 this lands were casually given out to either landowners who got the land from either buying or inheriting them or (especially after the revolution) were given to entire communities which gradually developed into the comunitarism practise.
When democracy was established Alentejo became a stronghold for the Communist Party of Portugal (PCP) until rather recently when they were surpassed by PS (the socialist party) and Chega because of continuous mismanagement by the Commies.
This was actually pretty cool to see the channel history. Now we just need an alternate history scenario where this channel never existed

I‘ve been a sub since the PowerPoint era! I remember watching your series of videos about “what if Rome never fell” and loved the vid where they fought the mongols. It’s been awesome to watch this channel grow throughout all these years and I can’t wait to see it grow even further!

ditto! i was maybe 12-13 (maybe 6th grade?) when i first watched his video on the korean war, and i was hooked on the ideas of how our world could be so different if small changes were made. Since then, history, especially alternate history, has become basically a hobby for me. For awhile, his earlier videos inspired me to write alternate history stories about whatever time period we were learning about in Social Studies at that time (a few i even turned in for a grade for projects, and my teacher was genuinely surprised anyone cared that much)
Literally same, this channel fueled my love for history, got me into althis and it's the sole reason I started my own timeline (almost 6 years in the making and counting)

I find myself feeling really critical about the production value, script writing, and articulation of new or niche UA-cam channels.
Thing is, good UA-camrs today used to be like that, but back in those early YT days, we didnt have the finely polished content we practically expect now.
@@stevid8193 To be fair, the availability of quality equipment and software has improved tremendously. Making it way easier to make a good quality product. I mean, compare modern UA-cam to professional commercials of the mid 00s. You'll find better quality from an amateur today than from professionals 20 years ago

Cody, you are one of my favorite channels, and the channel that I have subscribed to for the longest. I have been with you since 2014, ever since the "What if the Americas never existed?" video. You have grown tremendously, both in the context and quality of your videos, and in your personal life.
You were still in high school back when I first discovered and subscribed to you. Now, you are married and have a child. I was in 7th grade when I discovered you. Now, I have finished my fourth year of college, but I have not graduated yet. I am so glad that you have improved the quality and content of your videos.
From 2014-16, you often spent the first half of your video summarizing the real history behind the topic of your alternate scenario. You only discussed your actual scenario in the second half of your video, but mostly provide mere generalizations. You justified your short generalizations by saying "this is just one of the many possibilities. We will never know how...", which left the audience in a cliffhanger.
Now, since around 2017, you have changed for the better. Your new videos are about your alternate history scenario first and foremost. You now only provide necessary real-world information during the first few minutes of your scenario, and spend the remaining bulk of your video on your scenario. I appreciate this change because an alternate history channel should be about telling the story of the scenario. Your old style of videos made me disillusioned for some time, but your change is what kept me loyal to this channel. It was also this previous satisfaction where I eventually discovered Whatifalthist. my other favorite channel. He has since transitioned away from alternate history, and is dedicated to real history, geopolitics, current events, and anthropology. I am also glad you reformed before Whatifalthist's genre switch in order to provide a beacon of hope for the Alternate History community in UA-cam and beyond.
I love this channel, and I wish the best for a new generation of objective and realistic alternate history UA-camrs and creators to follow your lead.

what I like about alternate history, and it is a thing that I think you do really well in your videos, is that by presenting this speculative alternative, you show how big of an impact the actual history has had on our culture, technology beliefs, and just the world in general. the two best videos you did the really illustrates this is the one about "what if the great lakes of north America" didn't exit" and your "if the moon was inhabitable".

I was also a huge fan of Red Alert growing up, and Man in the High Castle is great. Love that you're taking a look back at your older content. Just shows you how far you've come and grown.

As an author who writes out of the realm of normal, I never thought to imagine a world where history played it differently than it really did until after highschool, eventually settling on my work taking place in a reality where the Soviet Bloc still exists. I have so many ideas to thank you for that, had I not have found you or your channel, would have likely never came to be.

As someone that grew up loving your videos, I feel like I matured alongside them. Going back now and watching the old vids definitely puts it in a different light. But that simplicity and fantastical attitude the old vids had were what gave me the interest as a kid to fall in love with history. Congratulations on your channels 10 year mark, I started watching your vids with the fallout episode and I've enjoyed them since, i'm a little disappointed that you didn't mention that crossover with extra credits but that's just me, anyway, I love the work you put into your vids your since of humor gives me a chuckle every time and it's great to cover history even while posting a interesting what if, please keep up the good work and I look forward to more of your work.
The alternate history genre was a big part of what made me interested in learning about history. Now that I've learned more, some of those old stories seem goofy but I'm not mad that I read them.
One of my favorite things I've realized is that virtually every single fan of alternate history can say, "Well it started because I got this book from an author called Harry Turtledove."
Except me. A cousin tried to get me into Turtledove. At first I was intrigued, and then he told me that WWII had aliens and I noped right out. I like Alternate history. I like science fiction. I don't want them together.

Oh my god. So I've been watching your channel and a French youtuber (Alterhis) as my two main sources of alt history content and today I decided to check both of your latest vids cause Christmas times meant I didn't have much time to just watch UA-cam on my own.
The top recommended video of his when I looked up his name was a 5 year old video on "what if Gengis Khan had never existed" and his latest video (maybe explaining the algorithm pushing the previous one) is "what if the Mongol Empire never fell" and it's got some impressive production value as he's started to develop in the last couple years.
And I queued this video of yours and your Hoover one and… wow. It's ironic how themes come together like that.
Similarly, one of your more "recent" ones (what if Vikings had never left America, November 2017) is also one of the early ones from the French youtuber (from August 2015). And the funnier part is that the intro is almost the same? Talking about how Vikings were explorers first and foremost 😅

Didn't saw your first "season" till today, have to agree is hilarious, but enjoyable, as an alternate history fans I don't really need a fully realistic scenario, is better if I get to read/hear/see one, but in the end is entertainment, don't be hard on yourself this is a good channel with its own ups and downs.

It’s nostalgic seeing Cody’s old videos that I haven’t seen since high school. The Godzilla video was my first introduction to this channel and I have not regretted it since I look forward to my alternate history fix when Cody uploads a video. Cheers to 10 years and many more years to come.

I’ve been watching this channel for probably 6-7 years now. Some of those cringey old videos were the first ones I ever saw.
Now that I think about it… I just turned 21 a few weeks ago. A quick Google search would suggest (idk how accurate Wikitubia is) that Cody is 27.
I am as old now as Cody was when I first started watching his videos.
