Just replaced drums shoes and pads well I had a shop do it and did good for a couple of days been now when I hit the brake it makes a clunking/grinding noise when I start to slow down. Do you have any idea what that may be? Maybe a bearing or something I’m not sure
Devon DeVane I would take the car back to the shop, if they won’t fix it the attempt ur self... 1st what kinda vehicle do u have? 2nd is the sound coming from front or rear?
Jaylen my jj I watched the video again seems pretty self explanatory sorry if u didn’t understand it clearly enough, I’ll try to go more in depth on newer videos.
They always skip the hardest part - getting the brake drum off. There are two things that hang them up. 1. They stick on the hub (no big deal just use the two bolt holes to drive them off). 2 - And this is the hard one - The shoes wear a ridge in the drum and you can't pull it off. Yes, you're supposed to just turn the adjuster to loosen them, but that is not as easy as it sounds. I can't seem to release the arm the prevents it from turning backwards - Is there a trick to this??? I'm not sure where it is because I haven't gotten the 1st drum off yet - and I'm not sure which way to turn the adjuster when I do Is the arm above or below the adjuster? Do I get to it forward or rearward of the adjuster screw? do i turn the adjuster up or down? Everything else about drum brakes is pretty self explanatory
Man at that point I usually use a pry bar and a hammer to get the drum off once the shoes wear into the drum... sorry and hope that helps... just work it side to side and keep hammering and prying.
RicksRides1 Can't seem to get the drum past the pads. I could destroy the drum (it might be too worn to use anyway) but I recall having this sane problem years ago. I don't recall how I resolved it, but fighting the pads is a good issue to cover in a video. Its especially helpful to see how/where to release the adjuster arm and which way to turn the adjuster. Reaching around the drum and working blind is a PITA.
I know your comment was four years ago, but in case anyone is having the same problem, here is the easy solution. Those two threaded holes on the drum are there exactly for this purpose. Just keep screwing down tow bolts through those holes evenly. They will push against the hub and push the drum off.
Easy enough to disconnect both cables under the door.but not so easy to reconnect them.i can only get 1 cable reconnected.thr second cable is to hard to pull to reconnect.
There's a much easier way. Release the cables! There's a bracket under the drivers door. Pull the two cables from the rear. It looks like a bike brake cable. Make sure to reattach before you put on the drums. Very east job.
I was looking for some insight but I don’t think you have a f***ing clue how to do this. My advice is don’t post a video unless it’s going to be helpful to others!.IMHO.
Says the guy having to watch a video on how to charge drum brakes, seems like your the one that don’t have a clue 😂… but thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, feel free to drop a link to your video on how to change drum brakes
You made it seem harder then what it is tbh. But definitely gave me a better perspective, then what i had in mind
I cant get the emergency brake eire back into place. Not on the brake shoe but on the middel of the truck. Any suggestions? Thank you
