- Let's go back to the glory days of RFK, when the Cardinals were everybody's favorite punching bag in the NFC East. The 'Skins defeated the visiting Cards for the 14th straight time at RFK (dating back to 1978), pitching a second straight home shut-out to start the magical '91 season. Ernest Byner carried the load, while Wilber Marshall's INT TD return is a gem. The real highlight is smarmy Randy Cross' pre-game prediction of a Cardinals upset (all that hair gel went to his brain).

An old Nfc east matchup..In which we dominated..Had a feeling we were special this year! Winning 34-0..In fact I believe we had 3 home shutouts this year! On our way to a 14-2 Super bowl championship season! Httr

The opposite happened in the December rematch (predictions of blowout, Cardinals led for half the game)

Skins were just loaded for talent that year for sure. RB's aloneRiggs, Ervens, George, all powerful, quick rushers.
If Ernest Byner didn't make that fumble in the NFC playoffs when he was with the Browns, he never would have played for the Skins. He was brilliant.
The 1991 Cardinals had arguably the hardest schedule in NFL history:
They played only 2 games against teams that finished with losing records (Rams and Patriots), both in September
And the 91 Pats were an all time overachiever, so really their only breather on the schedule all year was the Rams………. in week 1!
I still find it hard to believe that some of our greatest aren't even in the HOF. Gary Clark and Brian Mitchell, along with Charles Mann and Wilbur Marshall belong in the HOF. Terrible how long it took for Art Monk to get in. They'll always be Hall of Famers to all of us. Hail to the Redskins!

@@chrisuncleahmadThat is Interesting. You make a great point. The skins had a tough schedule too, but I'll give the nod to the Cards. In '91 both teams played the defending SB champs twice (Giants), the next two seasons' SB champs twice (Cowboys), and the #1 defense in the League twice (Eagles). The Cardinals get the nod for toughest schedule though because they also had to play the Redskins twice.

The Cardinals went down the toilet after that game. The thought the were big and tough and got brought back down to reality real quick. They never seemed to recover after that loss.
