This is the first ever football game I watched as a 7 year old in Herndon, Virginia. I knew nothing about the Redskins when our family moved to Virginia, but this is what got me into football. I got lucky and saw the Redskins run the table and just dominate going 14-2.
This game was played on 9-1-91. McDonald's commercial featuring only #91s - Kevin Greene, Greg Manusky, Leslie O'Neal, Brian Noble, Jeff Wright, and Johnny Meads. Greene made it to the Pro Football HOF. Manusky has enjoyed a long coaching career in the NFL. O'Neal is a College Football HOFer and likely will find a way to the Pro Football HOF someday. Noble played 9 seasons with GB. Wright was a part of 4 SB teams with the Bills. Meads played 9 seasons with Hou and a few games with Was. He was a part of 6 consecutive playoff teams.
I remember this game because me , my best friend was out fishing.... At the pond on his pond ... We were jamming out on some music.... I decided to check on this game... At the time it was 28-0... God rest his soul, we had a great time... He wasn't a Redskins fan... But we had great time listening....
It's amazing to think that Detroit was able to have the season they did after that game. The previous year, Washington had another week 1 RFK home shutout against Phoenix and the 90 Cardinals didn't exactly bounce back from that one.
@@reggjohns8828 I believe that he was injured but I could be wrong, I am sure that a genius will come along and correct me. But if I remember correctly that was the case and I know that if he was 100 percent he would have played…
@@johndonny443He was good but fumbled quite a bit and rarely ever had a big say in the outcome of games. He wouldn’t get my vote. Whereas Warren was the blood, guts and sinew of 3 world championship teams and the archetypal blocking tight end. Steve Tasker and Devon Hester are the only special teams players I would ever sponsor for the HOF. Being second all-time in yardage is not that hard, if you’re a return man for over a decade in the NFL. Again, very good but not what I would call great.
@@MaximusWolfe I agree he is not an obvious candidate for the hall. I think when Hester got in that opened the discussion up for special teams guys. After comparing Mitchell to Hester, Brian stacks up very well. He is statiscally close or better then Hester and then seeing he has more all purpose yards then anyone ever not named Jerry Rice that makes him an interesting candidate. Besides the Hall owes Skins nation for making the great Monk wait a decade + when he should have been 1st ballot. Clark should be in and Jacoby is a joke that he is still waiting. 4 nfc championships, original Hog, 3 world championships and was an anchor on 2 of the greatest offenses in league history in '83 and '91. They gave up 9 sacks all of '91 in the nfc east. Jacoby played the likes of reggie white, lawrence taylor, randy white etc. Lt said Jacoby absolutely should be in. Anyways, always fun to discuss my beloved skins. Hope Sammy Howell comes through this year.
@@johndonny443 Maybe after Steve Tasker gets in, you can start talking about people like Mitchell. But it’s an absolute travesty that Tasker has been ignored. Just contemplating.... How many good Tight Ends Joe Gibbs had .... And they all filled a need... Don Warren, Dave Casper, Rick Walker, Clint Didier, Ron. Middleton, Terry Orr, and so on .... Depth.... In all positions made Washington a perineal playoff team, and multiple times Champion.... Bobby Beathard, was the best talent guy ever.... Gibbs coached them up.... From HOFers to scab players...
If you had told anyone after this game that these two teams would meet in The NFC Title game they would've wanted you drug tested. Washington? Okay. Detroit? Hell no.
The Year before the Skins were 10-6 and won a playoff game . One of the top offense and Defense . But yeah. The Lions were a surprise for sure. This Washington team has arguably the best trio of wrs in history . They won 2 Superbowls in blowout fashion and set several records at the time .

@@MaximusWolfe Yes The 89 49ers who outscored their opponents in the playoff 126-20 would be so scared of the Mark Rypien led Redskins. Oh can you please tell me who sent Washington home in 90 & 92? They owned Washington & you know it. Keep trying son.
But after that season opener walloping, I never imagined that the Lions would go as far as they did, winning their divisional championship and then reaching the NFC Championship Game.
Mark Rypien was on this team as far back as 1986. Didn't dress but Mr. GIBBS saw something in him that one day would bring him another Super Bowl. Number 3 with three different QBs. Imagine today giving a QB that much time to mature. This is what patience gives you unlike today when you are a rookie and you have to be Mahomes. Bad form and very sad no one develops QB's anymore.

Wow, you really went in depth there.
The Detroit Lions actually had a pretty good team in 1991, both on offense and defense. But the Redskins just overwhelmed them in both games.

Love the 91 Redskins they had an awesome team. Very underrated in my opinion. Thanks for posting
Top 5 greatest teams ever. Not remembered as such. But they obliterated nearly all comers.
Definitely one of the best teams in history... and I am not even a Redskins fan. But they just dominated everything put in their path.
The greatest football team ever assembled. Those who don’t think so are either biased or ignorant.
I see that Barry was fully suited up…..why didn’t he play?

Best team ever. Jacoby, Mitchell and Clark should all be in the hall of fame.
Mitchell shouldn’t. Agree with you otherwise. The guy who deserves consideration is Don Warren. Best blocking tight end ever.
@@MaximusWolfe Mitchell is 2nd all time in total yards. The only player in the history of the nfl with more total yards then Bmitch is Jerry Rice.

Detroit Lions Against Washington Redskins From 1991 Preview NFC Championship Thanks For Uploading
The 91 Redskins dominated from post to post beginning with the Lions in a lopsided win and completed by demolishing the lions in the nfc championship.
Would you be able to upload a couple games from that season for Washington? @Chicago vs Atl (regular season) and possible the NFCCG?
I'll work on the ATL game maybe next year it had a certain debut.
I remember this game. Do you have the entire game from start to finish?
Every year, my dad would say "I just don't think we have it this year." After this game, he said "this might be an okay year for the Redskins."
