  • Speaker is of the view that true innovation can only happen if India takes the best of the West, that is the aspiration for material perfection while retaining the best of its ancient history & wisdom. Education thus needs to go along these lines: western academic excellence and more of emphasis on Indian history, its poets, writers, warriors (such as Shivaji Maharaj) etc. Also there are some tools of ancient Indian spirituality that should be used that are secular in nature, such as Pranayama (the air we breathe is the same for anybody whatever his or her religion & ethnic origin) or meditation (such as the Buddhist technique of Vipassana, observing the sensations on the body) etc. Thus you would produce Indians, on par with the best in the world but with a difference. India could then INNOVATE and not copy as it is the case now in many areas.
A famous writer, blogger and journalist, François Gautier was born in Paris in 1959. In the early eighties, he began freelancing in India for different publications and finally ended-up being the correspondent in South Asia, for the Geneva-based “Journal de Geneve”, then one of the best international newspapers in Europe. In 1993, he switched to Figaro, one of France’s leading newspapers for which he worked exclusively for eight years. He also started writing regular columns for Indian newspapers, first in Blitz Bombay, then in the Hindustan Times, later came the ‘Ferengi’s column” in the Indian Express, then the “French Connection” column in the Pioneer, as well as regular contributions for Outlook, Rediff, New Indian Express, DainikJagran, etc.

"You need to be a little positive about your own country". Words for the ages.

This man has nailed it perfectly. Very well explained. We Indians need to understand the vested interest of western media and stop looking at India from their eyes. We should be proud of our own culture and history. If we ourselves talk negatively about our country no one else is going to talk positively about it.

So proud of the speaker who is so proud of India. True son of Mother India. Family bliss and peace we can find only in India. Very wrong to use material welfare as yardstick to measure poverty or standard/quality of living.

    Hello Mr. Siukirkee,
I liked your speech on India and Indians and their innovation. Why Indians are far behind in this field though most of the knowledge came from India to the west, which includes Pythagoras theorem, decimal arithmetics and many. Hindu never took credit for any of their knowledge before. They were ego less, Pius and timid due to their upbringing(not any more). They never thought of any innovation and if at all there was some new ideas, their gurus used to stop them doing any such thing. They will immediately prompt "don't do any thing, drop every thing, god will protect you". May be because of the guru's awareness on environment or idea of total surrender to god.i
However, India did progress in literature, science, ayurveda (herbal medicine), building constructions like dams and temples with their limited tools.
In modern days, there are lots of US and European companies in India, where all the development and new ideas have to come through parent companies located in their countries. The credit will go to the parent company and any employee with a new idea will get proper renumeration and some promotions.
Poverty is another problem. The problem is not only for Indians, but also many other similar countries like Pakistan and many.
Correct me if I am wrong.
    Thanks.
