I was a very social child, I was pretty popular at school too because I could easily hold a conversation with anyone and got along with everyone. As I got older I sort of lost that social ability. I'm not anti social, I can talk to people. Indeed I find it easier talking to strangers than some family members! But I'm working on getting my old social skills back and thankfully I succeeded. How? The only way I can explain it is: Learn not to care, learn not to be nervous, learn not to be afraid of silences and just let conversations flow naturally. Humans are social creatures, just let it come naturally. You are what you imagine yourself to be, so imagine yourself as social and talkative.

I have the same story, too!!!! But the difference is that I haven't yet suceeded in getting back that social ability, but ur comment made me feel that I'm not alone, I'm pretty sure, I'll get that back, soon... thnx, man!!

Yep, you are what you imagine yourself to be. Your mind is very powerful, use it to your advantage! you can be whoever you want to be!

it will come, don't worry. Its also important not to blame social awkwardness only on yourself, it could be the other person who has the social issue and not you. It takes two to have a conversation. Your certainly not alone, every single person alive has had social awkwardness in their lives, everyone, from celebrities to politicians, everyone!

    1. Just do it
    2. Skip small talk, ask personal questions
    3. There is no room for negativity, instead find the things in common
    4. Give a honest unique compliment
    5. Ask for a simple opinion
    6. Be present, eye-contact
    7. Remember their details (Name/place etc)

+phill kelly Yes, it's true. I made that comment in a 'reminder' form, I should have added that her speech is nice and worth listening to the other details she mentioned. Of course, you can attach/remove key points depending on who you are :) Cheers!

      1.) Not motivated
2.) Do onto others. I don't like personal questions from strangers so I won't ask them
      3.) always room for negativity
      4.) no
      5.) no
6.) no. People who stare at me put in the "i want to punch you in the face" mode.
      7.) see #1

    4. Pay a unique compliment (8:45)

This intriguing video serves as a poignant reminder of the heartache I've been enduring since my 7 year relationship came to an end 3 months ago. My cherished partner, the love of my life, made the difficult decision to part ways, leaving me consumed by thoughts of him. Despite my earnest attempts to win him back, I find myself facing frustration and an overwhelming sense of emptiness, unable to envision a life without his presence. Despite my efforts to move on , I'm compelled to confess my lingering feelings and longing for him here .

I recommend watching through the whole thing, but.
    1. First word floodgates (3:33)
"Once you've said the first word, everything just flows."
    2. Skip the small talk. (5:20)
Ask personal questions. Be bold, and you might be surprised how much someone might share.
Asking about family might help elicit response.
The lady gives a neat tip, and a neat story at (6:27)
    3. Me - too's (7:34)
Don't start with negatives. Start the conversation on the same side.
    4. Pay a unique compliment. (8:45)
Someone may forget what you say or how you look, but they would never forget how you made them feel.
There are words and compliments that people are immune to.
Avoid them and pay a genuine, unique compliment.
    5. Ask for an opinion. (10:19)
Ask generic questions like "what's your last movie and how did you find it?" instead of "what do you think about how this affects the oil prices?"
That is the difference between generic conversations and exam questions.
And when someone gives you an opinion, really listen; listen to listen, don't listen to reply.
    6. Be present. (11:40)
Don't look at your phone etc.
Make eye contact. You literally feel the conversation.
    7. Name, place, animal, thing (12:42)
Remember their name. It's really important. Say it back to them. Places they want to go to. Their pets names, their children's names.

How to establish connections with people through conversation (not necessarily just with strangers):
    1. Dare to begin, dare to say the first words
    2. Skip small talks, focus on what's really interesting
    3. Draw on the common ground
    4. Make genuine unique compliments
    5. Get people to share what they think about something, listen to listen
    6. Don't multitask, be there, be in the conversation
    7. Remember what you two talked about
**1st big takeaway: "people can forget what you say, what you do, but they will never forget how you make them feel"
**2nd big takeaway: look at them in the eye
**3rd big takeaway: every person is a really good book, you just have to figure out which to read next instead of only skimming the titles

The awkward part is step 2, where she is suggesting you just ask people random questions. Do you like lizards!?!??! What's your favorite color??? Dogs or cats? What's your deepest life goal??! That just seems so childish to me. And awkward that they are just fishing for some kind of connection, it's borderline obsessive. @@Amaroq09 I don't judge people on what they believe, it's more on why they believe it. Too many people these days are just reciting everything they hear without putting any individual thought into it.

I love the analogy that people are like books, filled with stories to tell. I'm always so worried what everyone is thinking about me that sometimes I forget to really be present in conversations. I end up missing out on so many amazing stories and experiences because of my anxieties but this actually makes me want to talk to strangers. Amazing job!

It's a great reminder to approach conversations with positivity and curiosity. I appreciate you sharing this gem; it's something I'll definitely keep in mind. Thanks a buddy! 🌟

I took away several positives from this, specially as I was surrounded by gorgeous women at a party last night and had lost the confidence to communicate due to the several prolonged COVID lockdowns. Normally I'm a very confident person, just needed my social compass being encouraged and boosted. Thank you Malavika Varadan.

    A summary for myself
Just start the conversation, it will find the flow
    Be present, make eye contact
    Remember their name, place, animal...
    Give out unique compliments
Reduce the small talk and ask deeper if not genuine questions
    Find Mee tooo's, not dissimilarities
Ask for their opinion, about simple questions
This is the best video on conversation skills
    Thanks a lot Malavika !

  • @badaltripathi2648

Here is the summary for someone who is busy.
1:Just say hi, hello. Don't hesitate.
2:Ask open-ended questions like, where are you from?
    ○ You have got a really nice name. What's the meaning of your name?
    ○ What do you do?
    ○ Have you ever been to this place before?
§ How often do you come here?
    3:Find the Me-toos
    • Try to find what is the common thing between you and the other person.
    ○ Step into that common ground and start talking.
    4:Pay a Unique Compliment
    • People will forget what you do, what you say but they will never forget how you made them feel.
    • Go out and give someone a nice full compliment.
    ○ So, I have this belief about a "compliment immunity meter", and it comes from this experience I had when I met this gorgeous supermodel.
§ And I look at her and I say, "Wow! You are beautiful!"
§ And there is no reaction on her face.
§ And I think to myself, "How?"
§ That's when I realized, she is immune to the word "beautiful."
§ She's probably heard it a hundred thousand times today.
    • Try and construct a compliment that's unique and genuine, and you don't have to lie.
    5:Ask for an Opinion
    • All of us have opinions; trust me.
    • And we all want them to be heard and everybody wants validation.
    ○ So go on and ask for an opinion, and that's when you open up a two-way street.
    ○ That is when the real communication begins,
    ○ and you will be surprised how much you can pick up about a person just by asking their opinion on something pretty generic.
    • Here's a mistake that some people make.
    ○ They ask your opinion about something really difficult.
    ○ It feels almost intimidating.
    • Somewhere in a room, full of very well-informed people, and someone was to come up to me and say, "So what do you think about the way the oil prices have affected the real estate market in Dubai?" I feel a bit cornered.
    ○ I feel like I might fail, and this is an examination, and that's the lesson.
    ○ Nobody needs to fail at a first-time conversation.
    • Just ask something simple.
    ○ Keep it generic.
    ○ How do you like your coffee? When did you watch your last movie? What did you think of it? And when somebody gives you their opinion: really listen.
    ○ Don't listen to reply.
    ○ Listen to listen.
    • There's a difference.
    6:Be present.
    ○ Just be wholeheartedly present, just be there.
    ○ And - oh! - my favourite part: make eye contact.
    ○ Trust me, eye contact is where all the magic happens.
    ○ You can feel the conversation.
    ○ And trust me, when you are looking at someone in the eye, nine out of ten times, they will not dare look away, right? (Laughter) Now, if only I could look into the eyes of 1.6 million people, I would not have to worry about you guys tuning out during the ad breaks.
    7:Name, place, animal, thing.
    ○ Do you remember that game? Remember the little details about a person.
    ○ Remember their name.
    • It's so important.
    • It's awful when you meet someone for the 18th time, and you say, "You must be Paul, no Peter.
    • Something with the P and it ends with ..." It's terrible.
    • remember someone's name and say it back to them.
    • You have no idea how important you're making them feel, and that's not the only detail.
    • Remember all the other details as well.
    • The places they like to go to, the places they've been to, the places they want to go to, their pet's names.
    • How have their pet's been feeling lately? The things they like.
    • Remember their children's names, that's such a winner.
    • Remember their wife's names, their girlfriend's names.
