Hey, I'm a 39 y-o woman who would watch the 1990 animated nutcracker every Christmas if I could access it and who does watch Prince of Egypt twice a year on average.
something about the janky 3D is so comforting in the nostalgia lol. whenever i think of the nutcracker i remember the time my dad took me to a local performance and was UTTERLY shocked that ballets have no speaking or singing 😂
They actually partnered with the New York City Ballet and used motion capture imaging to animate the ballet sequences, so in a way you are watching real ballerinas :')
The Barbie movies of this era actually use motion capture for most of the dancing. It’s more noticeable in the 12 dancing princess and magic of the Pegasus.
My first Barbie movie, my first Tim Curry role. I'll never forget finding that interview he did for the promo in which he called Barbie a "world star" and said he felt flattered to be part of her first big film. 💗🎄 Also: Kelly Sheridan IS Barbie, no contest. 👏
@@rebeccag.1016 Oh don't get me wrong, I absolutely know who he is. I only meant this was my first exposure to his work as a kid. I also loved him in Beauty & the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, the Scooby-Doo movies (Witch's Ghost & Goblin King), his *other* Barbie movie (Three Musketeers), Legend, etc. I even found out he once played a version of the Beast for BATB a couple years ago and it only highlighted how immensely talented he is. 😊
The way Mattel used Nutcracker to essentially make their own Beauty & the Beast movie with it. Literal "ugly on the outside by he's a prince on the inside" messaging, the prince was generally disliked as a human, he gets character development throughout the plot, somehow he's better preferred by most in his cursed form, iconic dance scene between our main couple, Tim Curry is in it and he'd already done two other BATB films by this point...they even riffed off the "land restored to its former glory" sequence from the 1991 Disney film. 😆🌹
I remember we went to see beauty and the beast onstage at Disney world. My sisters and mom said it got to the part where the beast transformed and basically everyone in the audience was like “oh god, bring the beast back!”
My all time favorite is "Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper" "Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus" is a close second "Barbie of Swan Lake" and "Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses" are iconic "Barbie: Fairytopia" has a special place in my heart because the main character's name sounds a lot like mine and my own sister would always say "Elina-poo" (in Bibble's voice)
Even though it’s not accurate to the real version it’s still a great movie! I perform the Nutcracker every year with my dance studio and I appreciate how accurate their dance moves are
As a former ballet dancer the Nutcracker is LIFE!!! The music just awakens something in you 🥰 also we played this in the dressing room regularly during the show 😂
The Barbie movies managed to pull some really big names. Tim Curry in this one, Martin Short in Princess & the Pauper, Kelsey Grammar in Swan Lake, Angelica Huston in Rapunzel, Catherine O'Hara in 12 Dancing Princesses, and I'm sure there's probably more. Also, to answer Benji's question - they had a Ken doll with basically a Nutcracker mascot head so you could have him be the Nutcracker or the prince. It was kind of clever while also being moderately disturbing.
I’m so happy to see you two lovely gents react to a Barbie movie! 👏🏽 P.S. The 2000s really was a time to be alive with Barbie movies and the official website.

imo it was absolutely on par with toy story; there's the well circulated story on how they picked toys for their first movie because then they didn't have to worry about stuff like 'faces that moved properly' or 'walk cycles that didn't look stiff'. the toys looked really good, but Sid and that horrific baby short from the beginning? Barbie was there, just...straddling the line of looking like a doll and looking like a human who we expect to move in certain ways. Also, it seems a lot like they worked really hard on the dance sequences (great !! excellent !!) and then the backgrounds are like it's green and there's a tree literally what else do you want. It's a little more egregious in Rapunzel since this is supposed to be a cartoon candy land but Barb definitely waits a few movies before she starts worrying about where she's standing 😂
Love your comment - especially the second half - but as someone who watched Toy Story regularly and can appreciate how far they pushed the technology at the time - especially in regards to lighting, fluidity and cinematography - I respectfully disagree. Barbie Nutcracker isn’t MUCH worse - I would say a little below par. But Toy Story - ESPECIALLY ON 35mm - still looks and feels like a theatrical experience - not a direct-to-VHS film 😅

One of these days I’ll revisit that strange movie
I sat here for most of the video wondering why the Nutcracker voice sounded familiar. It's Scott Summers from X-men Evolution
Omg no way!!!
The banter between you both is the most wonderful thing ever, thank you for reacting to this 💖💖
Thank you so much!!! 😊
It took me the entire video to realise they were wearing sweaters that said “Barbie” and “Ken” 🤦🏻♀️
Hahahaha - to be fair, the video screen covers us up
Just because of Marzepan the horse, I need them to watch Barbie Magic Pegasus
Eventually 🤔
Speaking of Bartok, maybe y’all could do a movie commentary/reaction to Bartok the magnificent some day, it was my absolute favorite movie growing up🥰 Merry early christmas🎄❤️
I haven’t seen that one since I was a child 🦇
I can't wait to make my fiancé watch the whole franchise 😂
HOW MANY ARE THERE!?!?
@PinkPopcast I'm pretty sure there's like 40 or more😂
Can't believe doffy learnt this from watching a barbie movie
They did make a Ken doll for Prince Eric and it came with a hat/head that looked like the nutcracker (if I remember correctly, I think my sister and I lost the head right away and just played with him in Prince form so I can't be sure if I haven't imagined the head 😂)
Love how easily we’d lose things as kids
There were 26 barbie movies over 14 years (at least the ones that had Kelly Sheridan as the lead I don't know what they're doing now.)
TWENTY-FUCKING-SIX!?!?
@@PinkPopcast yes
The dad watching pose bit at the beginning had no right to be this accurate and funny!!
👨🏽
It was fun to get a new perspective on an old movie 😊 thnx guys 👍
Personally, I am also someone that thinks the Beast was more handsome as a prince.... but here, the prince was more handsome as the Nutcracker
Hahahahaha 🥵
I have never clicked on so much nostalgia so fast in my life also I love your Christmas sweaters
Thank you!!! ☃️
@PinkPopcast as I was watching I was literally searching for the Barbie sweater to buy 😂
Side note Rizzo the mustache will be missed 😭
It comes and goes lolol 👨🏽
3:37 hahahhaha Benji changes Some things never change from Frozen II to some people never change😂😂 You are such a vybe Benji🫶🏼
Yes he is!!!
Your sweaters are honestly so iconic ❤
Thank you 😊
i only vaguely remember watching these barbie movies when i was around 2-3 at my aunts house in antioch. it gives nostalgia for sure! also i have seen the nutcracker live i think around the same time frame, maybe a little older, and it was great from the pieces i remember!
Aww 🥹
Same, I watched this so much as a tiny kid and then I lost track of it, now I need to see the ballet live! -B
@@PinkPopcastit’s so good, especially if you like dance in general!! i think as an adult you’ll probably have a great appreciation for it too! i know when i think back on it i’m like “my body can NOT do that now” 😂
I cannot adequately explain the hold this movie had on me as a kid. I watched it on VHS SO MUCH
Ah, a childhood favorite!!! I adored this movie when I was a little girl.... Now I'm in my late twenties, and I still love this movie. 🤣🤣🤣
🙌🙌🥰🥰
every random movie yall choose is always so delightful, it literally feels like coming over . seeing friends chose a movie already and it's already gonna be a fun hangout. thank you for today's video 💝 also i just turned 21 ! so by american standards i can finally drink ( i wont though 😂).
Happy drinking birthday lol! And we’re really happy to hear that because that’s the vibe we want! Movie night with friends 🥰🥰
My gpaw did that with most of my Barbie and other kid movies lol 😂 always arms crossed leaned forward squinting and affirmative grunts 🤣🤣🤣
Oh my goodness- I love this film and make it my mission to watch it every year! I would love to see you guys react to more Barbie content, the old stuff is so entertaining in my opinion.
Seems as if we’ve opened the Pandora’s Barbie Box lolol
You need to do Barbie in a Christmas Carol & the other Christmas Barbie one too ❤
I didn’t realize there was a Barbie Christmas Carol!?!?!?
@ *GASP* YOU. DIDN’T. KNOW?! There are two more movies, one is Barbie in a Christmas Carol and the second is Barbie: A Perfect Christmas. The first one is more of the earlier barbie movies and the second is more modern. But let me tell you, The Christmas carol is AMAZING!
I second this suggestion a Christmas carol is amazing.
When I was a kid, my grandmother took us to a live performance of the Nutcracker every year. My favourite part was always Mother Ginger and her massive dress (tent) - as an adult, I found out Mother Ginger is usually played by a male performer. Ballet drag, baby!!! 🩰
Oh wow I didn’t know that! 🙌🙌
19:59 I laughed to hard at the “nobody rocks out but me” joke 😅😅😅
Hahahaha that was one of my dumbest ones 😅
@ I know 😭 I cringed after but I think it caught me off guard which made me laugh more
Omg I got so excited just from reading the title!!
If you ever decide to watch more Barbie movies try Diamond Castle. I just want to see if you guys think its gay too😂
My god there are so many hahaha 😂
