100% agree with you. If I had a 4th gens Supra or Soarer/SC400 that 1UZ-FE is the engine to have. It's an amazing design and over built just like the 2J series. Have you continued to make videos about the 1UZ?
@@KingLexus there's a whole video series on my channel👍 keep the charger and add a rear mount In to the mix as well, now that would be cool af😎😎 i use an intake check valve from a Volvo Penta Marine engine that's charged and turbo, so I can still use a pod filter up front for NA throttle response instead of dragging the intake the whole length of the pipework. Works great👍
Yes, that red Supra is one of my favorite projects on UA-cam right now. I’m not sure how nice it would be to drive on the road though as the lag would be ridiculous, combined with a that old school drag auto. Sometimes one big number doesn’t tell the whole story of what the car is like to actually drive. Still, It will rip apart most cars in a straight line.
@@supravworld8777 Agreed. I think around 600hp with an auto would be pretty driveable tho. Especially if do everything proper and get a really nice tune. Most people don't make power with 1uz because they don't want to pay for a new ecu and wiring and tune.
I daily my 2000 LS400, and the engine is faultless. Pulls like a train on top, but only on occasion as the torque is plenty! All engines need to eat now and again, so she sees 6000 as well. Love this engine, Toyota has this dialed in.
Currently in the process of building my 1uz from my sc400 to get it ready for a supercharger. Main problem, at least in the US, is sourcing parts. Also picking up an sc300 this month. Heard alot of good things from the 1uz prior to buying and I hope I get the same results

The 1UZ-FE was in the LS400/CELSIOR when the UCF10 model was introduced, which was way before 1999. My 1996 Celsior has a 1UZ-FE 2nd generation, the 3rd generation which includes the VVT-I and OBD II was introduced in 1999 but carry on.
I'm about to put my 02 Sequoia on lowered coil overs and open up the block and put 1UZ early thick con rods in it along with forged low compression pistons and quality rings. I'll reground cams for more rpm and lift. Twin Chinese ceramic bearing GT35's and make all the tubing out of S S. Big intercooler, big fuel pump, injectors and have a shop tune it. I want the GT35's and 2 inch runners for lots of low end boost. Beginning with 8.5:1 forged pistons I can go up to like 15 pounds boost without worrying about blowing up motor and run pump gas. I love my Sequoia. I got Skar RP 4500 serious monoblock amp and 2 12" skar 1,600 watt subs at 2 ohm and 4 big batteries. I can shake the neighborhood!Wired at 1/2 ohm!!!!!

First, thank you very much for putting out this video; any information on these beauty engines is hard to find and I noticed you used a picture from Lextreme website of the piston comparisons. 😉 I've read that someone drilled, tapped, the 2UZ-FE making it into a 6-bolt; just wondering about how much you think these engines can put out whilst still remaining reliable.
Well depending on your year car will let you know what kind of 1uz you have. because they change through the years. start there and then plan what you want to do
I have a 96 SC400.. beautiful machine! I've carefully removed 500 lbs from the car, while retaining the luxury features (all but the heavy factory seats). Answer to your question is difficult; you may want to keep it completely in tack and original. These cars are capable of becoming a extremely well mannered and predictable sports car vs. GT cruiser, but you'll have to lose some weight, dump all the emissions, lower and tighten up the suspension, add supraTT sway bars, solid diff bushings/rear subframe mounts, battery relocation and the list goes on..headers and intake will net 20-25 HP. Anyway, the SC is a treasure no matter how you approach it. Congrats on purchasing one of the finest sport GT coupes ever produced w/ likely the best Japanese manufactued V8!
It took me 10 years to find a SC400 in Germany, as they haven't been sold in Europe. Would love to turbo it, but that would create a problem with the Historical status of that Car. I'm dailing a IS300 Sportcross but the 1UZ is way cooler than the 2JZ.
lakha Lakho Bit hard to park. It's 5m long. Some interior bits like to go wrong like the dash cracking and trim just peeling. Getting a proper sound connection with your phone is painful. No aux. Otherwise love it.

Man great insight I own a first gen LS400 (UCF10) and slowly building it. I am probably going to go the supercharger route as it is less invasive going turbo. Going to use an m90 from a Ford but having a hard time locating an adapter plate to go replace the air intake manifold to fit the supercharger. Probably going to run 6-8 psi not much since it’s a daily anyways just wanted some tips or point me in the right direction that’s cheaper then Bullet lol they want like 6k for the set up.

I mean the Toyota soarer/ sc400 came out and 1991 a few years before the Supra and they share the same chassis with the same Supra so it’s not that surprising 1uz can fit in a Supra

If you turbo the car, then relocate battery to passenger side(trunk), delete A/C (unfortunately), delete hydro fan(electric fan), flip exaust manifolds, locating turbo directly in front of radiator and downpipe passengers side. I've not actually done the build, but I have researched...this seems to be the best and most cost efficient method (single turbo)
I've heard the 2 uz just doesn't like much boost and Toyota discontinued the supercharger option. I believe it was consitant rod failers? I'm hearing from my research, that the gen2(95-97) 1uz can handle up to 500 crank HP or 6-8psi reliably, while the Gen1 UZ 89-early 94(larger rods) can handle over 800 hp reliably. This is aquired information from several sources, including a New Zealand manufacturer of superchargers. Sorry, I'm unable to offer more information on the 2uz. It's basically a truck motor(towing): for lower rpm, high torque applications whereas, the 1UZ was designed as a GT 500 racing engine. Toyota simply derated the unit w/lower compression pistons and a mild ECU program for a targeted luxury market product line, which would out perform and outlast the established competition . Remember, Lexus was a brand new company and had to make an impression. They actually, we're giving an unlimited budget with the LS400 r&d and literally created a small community of the best workers, designers and engineers, during the development of the LS 400. This is why the 1uz's are able to last up to a million+ miles..they were literally overbuilt due to their original intended purpose. I'm not sure why the 1uz never saw it true purpose, I believe that, Toyota (TRD) pulled out of the racing scene for several years?
Gx's 4.7L have drop forged internals.... tundra 4.7 and any domestic made toyota have just forged. I have a '04 LX470 2uz sittin in the garage. And 2 '99 1uz's beside her.. get them while you still can... anything comming out of japans Huge Lexus primary plant exports the best!

I'm trying to break away from the usually over landing builds for the gx470s, they are extremely capable trucks, but extremely underpowered compared to others. I do know they are offered overseas in some countries, as turbo diesels, but get the watered down versions here in the states 😒. A twin turbo setup would definitely break necks, mine included 😂😂😂😂

I have a 2uzfe myself. Didn't get it for that reason but fell in love with the truck due to how fast and swift it is.
Love my 99 GS400, no plans to turbo it but I love checking out everyone's builds.

Drove a vvti 1uz with a manual behind it in a e30 bmw. Thing was a dream to drive normally and heaps of power when you wanted it.

You will lose power with m90
So why not used 1uz bottom end and the 3uz top end

Gx's 4.7L have drop forged internals.... tundra 4.7 and any domestic made toyota have just forged. I have a '04 LX470 2uz sittin in the garage. And 2 '99 1uz's beside her.. get them while you still can... anything comming out of japans Huge Lexus primary plant exports the best!
@@raould860 where are you located?? I hope you don't mind if I asked🤔. I'm trying to break away from the usually over landing builds for the gx470s, they are extremely capable trucks, but extremely underpowered compared to others. I do know they are offered overseas in some countries, as turbo diesels, but get the watered down versions here in the states 😒. A twin turbo setup would definitely break necks, mine included 😂😂😂😂
