      They're good but not that great in making powerful engines. Production V8 engines made by Japanese can only make power up to around 400 hp, with no air compressor. European and US V8 engines can make power up to around 600 hp. There are a lot of lessons Japanese car manufactures need to learn to beat the European an US. 👌

      Cracked headers isn’t a really reliability concern with the 2UZ, it’s more of just a headache and it won’t effect performance. The water pump failing is also remedied by replacing it every 100,000 miles when you replace the timing belt as recommended by Toyota.

    In my opinion the the entire UZ family deserves to be in S tier. The 1uz was certified for aircraft use, aircrafts can only use the most reliable and over engineered engines as you don’t want engine failure while in the sky lol 😅. You forgot to mention that the 2uz came with a full iron block and is known to be one of the most bullet proof engines ever created! With high mileage examples still selling over 15-30 grand in land cruisers and lx470’s. The final UZ engine, the 3uz is known to be a masterpiece of a luxury v8 or any v8 in that matter. Car care nut recently did a series on an old ls430 he picked up with over 630k miles and it still runs like a champ. As smooth as ever! Check it out. Also do your research on the 3uz it is probably the best v8 ever created in a practicality sense.

    I own both a 1999 Infiniti Q45 and a 2000 Lexus GS400, both cars have almost 700k miles between the two and are still very healthy and reliable. Cant go wrong with either a UZ or VH.

  • @skipast75

    1UZ for the win. You forgot to mention they’re FAA certified for use in airplanes.
    I bought 96 SC400 a few years ago with 225,000 miles. It ran like a top. A week into owning it I gave it a tune up. New plugs, wires, caps and rotors… the old plug wires were stamped 1996. They were the original plug wires. 🤯
    After the tune up the car ran the same… which is fantastic. It still passes the champagne glass test. It’s at 228k now and the only repair I have planned is to replace the starter. I’ve added a HPS intake and it’s pure music from under the hood now. It’s impressive Lexus could make the 1UZ so quiet because it screams with the intake. Tunnels are a lot of fun.

    Toyota had a supercharger kit for the 2uz. Also, multiple 2uz and 1 1uz have made it to 1,000,000 miles with just normal maintenance. My uncles Lexus gx470 is over 500,000 miles with no major issues. 2ur valley plates leak. Otherwise no issues. 2uz and 3ur have air injection pump (emissions) issues which is able to be bypassed. The aftermarket stuff that people down in NZ do with them is pretty insane too. Hartley Engines has a circuit package that bores out the 5.6 and then destrokes it down to 5.0. There's clips of them revving out to over 10,000 RPM.
      All around the Japanese have built some great modern V8s that deserve more recognition.

    my guess is around 310 ft lbs of torque at around 4100 rpm with a curved power band that dips at the end for the W64

    I believe Nissan’s R390GT1 road/race car were also V8s as well as Toyota’s TS020 (aka GT One)
    Edit: I made the comment before you said you were going to make a separate video about racing V8s 😅

    • @harrisontownend9146
      @harrisontownend9146 7 місяців тому

      If you dig deep you will see the r390 uses a variant of the vh45 same with so many of their race cars, the 300zx used it in the IMSA series, tbh as a mechanic and someone that's owned a lot of jap V8 series the list is a little off. The vh45 is better than the vk45 and the vh45 is on par if not better than the 1uz and the 1uz is lesser than the 3uz

    Ive been thinking about japanese v8s to shove into my 280zx to make a japanese muscle car. I think 1uz would be best for its small size, light weight and smoothness. It will probably never happen, but we can dream.

      Keep the 280zx Nissan powered. Plenty of affordable VK50/ 56's from local and online recyclers.

    • @leecline5759
      @leecline5759 7 місяців тому +1

      If you're going to build a Nissan Muscle Car, keep it Nissan powered. As someone who loves V8s with the right number of cams, VK engines are going to be cheaper to build and would be much better in stock form. There is a lot ot nuance as to what makes a good 1UZ to build and the good ones are harder and harder to find.
