If you were to re gap the rings then there would be no problem... Timing is less likely to cause it unless you see detonation marks, youd probably have a piece of the edge of the piston broken as well if that caused it...
Can you explain why one could not use a third party ECU such as Haltech/ Link etc instead of modifying the existing 2JZGTE ECU? I should note that the cost in obtaining a second hand 2JZGTE ECU presently (Oct 2021) has increased a bit and the work require to modify it requires some additional work. I mean a third party ECU (subject to fine tuning) is more simple and costs less.
Hi RLAW, you can absolutely use any aftermarket stand-alone ECU, but it’s best to get a plug n play version. This doesn’t have to be a SupraLink style that uses the outer shell of the stock ECU. Many ECU manufacturers make plug n play ECU’s for the GTE non vvti engine but simply use a short adapter harness that plugs into your stock ECU connector plug. Remember the GE & GTE both use the same ECU plug. If you choose a plug n play ECU you will also be offered a start-up tune. Just provide details of your injector size and most companies will upload a start up map onto the ECU for you. If you buy a ECU without being plug n play, you will need to also purchase a ‘FLYING’ harness which you will need to build an entirely new engine harness from scratch. Unless you’re a professional electrician this is a MASSIVE job and requires many special tools. You will end up spending thousands and give yourself anxiety haha. Hope this makes sense. CC
My question is if you can run a single turbo on the GE ecu then why couldn’t you run the GTE twins off the GE ecu?? Especially if you run the twins as true parallel twins instead of sequential like the previous 1jz twins. Next why go through all the trouble of making the stock GTE ecu work when you could get a plug and play stand alone unit and tune everything properly and better than the stock ecu can do.
I am in the process of doing this very setup although slightly different so I can get my car inspected via the OBD port. I am using the TT setup and keeping the factory ECU untouched and using an ECU as a piggyback to controll fuel spark and boost so it will not through an engine light. My question to you as you seem very knowlegable is that I wanted to use the GTE location oil feeds for the TT setp and I know there are 2 blanks that you can drill out to open them up and screw in the banjos but you need to drill another spot to open up the oil circuits for the turbocharger oil feed and the oil squirters also use this oil circuit. Do you know where to drill to open the last part of this circuit? The way I understand it is that there are 2 oil galley plugs on the front above the crank that in the oil pump area that you remove and drill across them (you can see what looks to be a passage running across the two galley plugs) I just want to confirm this so I can drill it out. I also want to change out the rods while im in there and it would be cool if I could do it all in car without removing the engine. Might be a good idea to just pull it and freshen everything up as it is a almost 200k motor im working with.

Hey CC did you give away the manifold yet? I have an SZ-R and looking to use you gear to do the $1000 build. Do you have any tips for how to buy/test the part we need from the gte engine? Turbos, ecu, sensors etc?
Where I can order that adapter?
I will be putting a link in the description below the video very soon for those wanting an adapter
