An Advanced Guide To Charge Blade SAED Spam in Sunbreak

  • An in-depth guide on the SAED (Super Amplified Element Discharge) Spam style in Sunbreak. Aka "Ultra Element Discharge" in Sunbreak. I wanted to make this guide because I felt like other guides were good at teaching Charge Blade basics, but not how to use its tools to do SAED Spam in practice. I see a lot of other players online not using CB to its fullest potential and using it inefficiently, so I thought I'd make a guide with the information I find most useful for SAED Spam in Sunbreak.

    This guide is exactly what I've been looking for to help increase my CB knowledge/skills. I've been frustrated by a lot of guides that feel they don't really put things together with the CB and instead spend (sometimes rightfully so) a lot of times on the basics and getting people going. Thanks for the time put into this!

    Nice video, quick correction; you actually have a third option after doing counter peak performance. After a CPP you can either do an SAED/AED, charge your sword or by pressing the right face button you can morph into axe mode. It’s not immediately obvious that it’s possible to do that after a CPP but it’s actually pretty useful to block multi hit attacks. So take Risen Kushala’s double wind beam for example, you can CPP the first wind beam and then press the right face button to morph into axe mode, then with counter morph slash you can do the axe morph guard point into an SAED. The advantage to this is you can charge your phials and then use counter morph guard point to gain the damage bonus on your SAED as opposed to not getting the damage bonus with counter peak performance. I didn’t know it was possible at first until watching a charge blade speedrunner do it and it blew everyone’s mind

      Yea, I always forget about that one lol. It's also useful for doing an SAED out of a CPP with a sharper change in angle by SAED'ing out of the axe mode.
      I also forgot to test, but it might be possible to morphing advance or skill scroll out of CPP, but I forgot.

      @Blah Oh, don't I know it. I think I'm slowly getting the hang of CB again, but I'm still having trouble keeping myself from whiffing supers because of the extremely sensitive directional input you can use during the windup. It's made me miss the monster entirely on multiple occasions during knockdowns or sleep hits. Don't get me wrong, I love how sensitive it is, but the sensitivity can be a double edged sword in the chaos of hunts.

    Morphing advance is the key to optimal SAED usage. You want to position yourself roughly 2 meters away from the part you’re trying to hit, if you’re standing right up next to the part you’re trying to hit your hunter will step forward while performing the SAED and the axe will land on the target but all of your phials will go beyond the target and almost completely whiff the part you’re trying to hit which is frustrating. Morphing advance can put you in the prime position to land most of your phials on the target which is especially important for element phials where you need to be mindful as to where your phials land. The other advantage to morphing advance is you can change in any direction to aim the SAED where you want it to go. Maybe it’s just me but I found aiming is a little more consistent if I linger for just a second after doing the morphing advance while inputting a direction to ensure I aim correctly as opposed to doing the SAED immediately after the morphing advance.
    Also I completely agree with running evade extender level 1. With no evade extender I feel like I travel absolutely no distance with your standard roll. With some weapons I feel that they really nerfed the roll distance hard, I never felt like I needed it in World for SAED spam but having one level of it helps a lot for repositioning and evading. and rapid morph doesn’t make a huge difference but every frame counts so the landing the SAED a few frames faster does make a difference so I choose to slot it as well.

    • @the_blahhh
      @the_blahhh  Рік тому +1

      I think evade extender is a bit more necessary in multiplayer personally, but I play multiplayer a lot and I enjoy rolling to get closer to the enemy lol.
      I also probably should've elaborated a bit more on Rapid morph and mentioned that it's monster dependent, and I've seen lots of good players shave it down to Rapid Morph 2 or omit it altogether depending on the monster. Although I think for a guide for newer CB players, they underestimate the difference it can make so Rapid Morph 3 is probably a good default :)

    • @grimreefer213
      @grimreefer213 9 місяців тому

      @@boredgamer7841 Lol for real! Of course i’ve played dark souls. The charge blade standard roll without evade extender does feel like a fat roll. You cover no distance whatsoever. Some of these endgame Sunbreak monsters hit so damn hard you may not want to block it or you may have to chase down the monster to reposition to a more favorable spot so that’s why I always run level 1 e.e.. and Primordial Malzeno has some attacks that cannot be blocked even with guard up so evade extender and even quick sheathe can be very nice for survivability.

    • @the_blahhh
      @the_blahhh  Рік тому +3

      Glad you found it useful! And uhh, tbh aiming SAEDs is not really something I think of too much, it's kind of muscle memory for me at this point. Assuming you're using a gamepad, I think the main things to keep in mind are to frequently target on to the focused monster using the L trigger so you're looking at it, and try to keep the camera behind the hunter so aiming the SAED mainly becomes a matter of aiming forward, left, or right. Like at 33:06, you see how I adjust the camera after morphing advancing before I do the SAED.

    • @the_blahhh
      @the_blahhh  Рік тому +1

      The best advice I can give is to try and frequently target/lock on the monster and when you're doing the SAED, try to align the camera so that it's behind the hunter and the monster. That way you can just hold the joystick forward, left, or right. You can see examples of me trying to keep the camera behind me and the monster when doing it at 17:56, 28:07 and 33:05. For the morphing advances, you can change your angle completely, so there I'm putting the camera behind me and the monster and then holding forward.

  • @Bravadorado

    I feel like this guide could have been condensed a lot if you had a better script or improved your speaking skills, and I noticed a few times where I felt like the topics could have connected an idea better. For example, in the "Escaping Axe Mode" section, you talk about how you usually end up in axe mode because you tried and failed to perform an SAED, and you mention using CPP to charge your sword and morphing advance to do a roundslash. I think it also would have been a good idea to reiterate here that you can "escape axe mode" by simply using those two moves to perform the SAED you initially failed to perform. A CPP into an SAED or a Morphing Advance into an SAED provide safety in either a guard or a quick reposition, followed by an SAED which sets you back in sword mode. In short, I felt like this section could have connected back to the idea that the ultimate goal is to get your SAEDs out, not just to escape and get back into sword mode.
    Those criticisms aside, I found this guide pretty relaxed and informative. As someone who has been around the charge blade before, I was looking for a guide showing specific guard points, swap skills, and combos that can be used in real situations. Unfortunately most of the guides on youtube simply restate the combos in the hunter's notes, instead of hitting on the deeper intricacies of the weapon. I don't know if this was a one off passion project video for you, or if you intend to grow your channel with this kind of content, but I think you have a good voice and cadence for this type of video. Obviously you could make improvements to your mic quality and the things I mentioned earlier, but overall I was impressed with how well this 900 view video turned out and I'm glad I clicked on it.
    As a newer MHR player, I would also be interested in seeing a Savage Axe video from you as well. I'm interested in the playstyle, but I don't yet have the Ready Stance or the Air Dash skills to complete a mental picture of the playstyle, so it's hard to say if I'll ultimately be interested in it. Anyway, good luck with the content endeavors.

    • @the_blahhh
      @the_blahhh  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the detailed comment! And glad you got something out of it! :) I feel like it's kinda hard for video guides to get that sweetspot between too detailed for a beginner, giving detailed advice for general gameplay, and not getting too specific into certain matchups or scripted speedrun territory.
      This is a one-off video for now, but yea, def agree on the organization part - after rerecording so many times, I was kinda over it after a while lol. If I ever do it again, I'll probably read off a script and record the gameplay and my voiceover separately instead of at the same time, so I can say all I want to say in an organized way and not adlib so much. My biggest regret is not talking about AED more, which I made sound kinda bad - despite being useful for getting knockdowns and big damage in.
      As for savage axe, I'll admit I don't really love the way it works in this game compared to Iceborne, so for most fights where I'd use Savage Axe > SAED Spam, I'm usually inclined to just reach for Swaxe or IG instead, so I don't have too much to say about it unfortunately.
      But yea, thanks for the comment!

    • @the_blahhh
      @the_blahhh  Рік тому

      There's just no good reasons to run it over Morphing advance for SAED. The phial explosion recoils you away from the monster which isn't great for keeping up DPS and can leave you vulnerable, and the raw hits aren't as powerful without CSS and don't really benefit elemental SAED, which is definitely the way SAED needs to be played in the endgame since Raw SAED is super bad.
      The super armor will also get you killed a lot and CB sword and shield has a lot of defensive options as is. It's debatable if it's better than morphing advance on CSS, let alone SAED.
      In terms of fun factor, it's fun to play around with but it def benefits CSS a lot more, esp with risen kushala helm which makes it super spammable and can help you get blood blight.

      Try using SAED out of shield thrust or out of a guard point. Morphing Advance bypasses the "morphing" part when doing an SAED. That being said the benefit of RM3 is slightly monster dependent and you can get away without running it on a lot of monsters.
