The mcr version of cancer and the tøp version have been so set in my brain as completely separate songs I saw Tyler on the thumbnail and genuinely thought you could only be talking about the jar of hearts cover lol
I heard Tylers version of Cancer first, and then i listened to MCR's version, I like TØP's version And when I first heard the cover, I thought it was his own song
Me too! I love Tyler's version...I'm going to be sacrilegious, but I listened through The Black Parade recently and...it wasn't my favorite. Like, I liked a lot of the songs, but it wasn't the masterpiece 10/10 people hype it up to be. And for any angry MCR fans, I think Danger Days is a 9/10 album and it's one of my all-time favorites.
@@alexkunce2006The black parade is one of my favorites, but my favorite album is Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. That one is a masterpiece and I love hard rock & metal music. I don't like Metallica at all.
@@alexkunce2006 My favorite albums are For Those That Wish To Exist by Architects, Sempiternal by Bring Me The Horizon & Hear Me Out by Reignwolf. Awesome albums. My favorite song is Crooked Young bh BMTH.
First, I watched you Ethel Cain and was entranced. You have started me down a new rabbit hole so thank you! Second I love the Cover of Hurt by Johnny Cash. Originally by Trent Rezner. I loved Rezners song, but when Johnny did it, it was so soulful. So heartbreaking. And it was the last song he ever graced us with a MV of. If you haven’t seen them you will probably really enjoy them and the difference of the two. ✌🏻
I think the disconnect between mcr fans and tøp fans on Cancer really comes down to how big a role it plays on the album. The mcr version is so good because of the tension between fighting and giving up that's explored in the later half of the album and it can be easy to miss the quality of the cover by comparing it to what is, essentially, the emotional weight of an entire concept album
some of my favourite covers (aside from the tøp cover of cancer) are Tyler josephs cover of Twenty Four by Switchfoot (another song where he took the original sound/feeling of the song and enhanced it with his own), Owl City's cover of Gone by Switchfoot, Relient K's cover of Ammunition by Switchfoot, and Switchfoot's cover of Harmony Hall by Vampire Weekend.
Your mom introducing you to the cover of The Sound of Silence is so sweet 🥰 my dad showed me the same cover when we were discussing vocal power (ofc I brought up tyler) but I really love that, it’s beautiful I also really like the Twenty One Pilots cover of Summertime Sadness and tbh thought that’s what was going on with Lana and Tyler on the cover 😂
mom was a lil late to the game, unfortunately i already knew the song and saw disturbed live before she told me but im really glad she was excited to show me anyways lol. and yeah, the lana and tyler cover was huge for me. tyler should do it again.
great video! very well explained. my favorite covers that i didn’t even know were covers until recently are making plans for nigel - by xtc in 1979 and then covered by primus in 1992. lay lady lay - bob dylan in 1969 and then covered by ministry in 1996 and then the more well known ones being mrs robinson - simon and garfunkel in 1968 and then covered by the lemonheads in 1992 i think were alone now - tommy james and the shondells in 1967 and then by tiffany in 1987. i think that is so much better when it’s song by a girl imo
One of my favorite covers is a very basic choice, but it's #1 on my list. It's I will always love you. I will always love you was completely transformed by Whitney Houston to be a powerful love song, and it feels like she's announcing her love to the world. The original Dolly Parton song is very tender and feels like a personal admission of love. I love both of the songs (and actually prefer Dolly's) but Whitney's vocal delivery really made it a whole other song. It's definitely my favorite cover, even if I like the original more. Also I like MCR's cancer because of the weight it has to the album. It really isn't fair to compare TOP's version to the original because MCR's cancer holds so much story within the context of the album. It just isn't as impactful by itself. (And I'm a huge MCR fan and not really a TOP fan, so I'm definitely biased)
i love love love mcr, and i love top cover of cancer but something about make me feel weird. it might just be the vocal style but it just feels off for the song, still a really good cover (twitter can fight about, i like both) i think vocal style thing is a preference considering the drastic message difference though tbh

hey that’s still a good cover
“Y’all are both emo, get over it”
She says like she doesn’t have Christmas deer named Scaled and Icy 😂
i’ve accepted my fate and they should too
Fair enough 😂
(I prefer Tyler’s Cancer, do you have a preference?)
Just finished the video, good luck with your blog! And sleep well

they all take the sounds of the original songs and enhance it with their own sound/style

I definitely prefer mcr’s cancer, nothing can beat the raw emotion in Gerard’s voice
Cancer cover discourse on Twitter will never end I fear. MCR fans are so adamant on dissing TØP’s cover every month
just because of them i’m picking tøp as my favorite
I love the bald wendsday in the background I have that too 🤑
i love all of these but it makes me so happy u mentioned I walked the line
