There's a guy who makes tons of mashups on a synth keyboard. One he cannot do is the Miami Vice theme vs Airwolf. In fact nobody touches the Miami Vice theme, it's always Crockett's theme and I don't like that song 😂 Are you up to the challenge of Miami Vice vs Airwolf? Axel F vs Knight Rder vs He-Man triple mashup? You did a flawless job with the Pink Floyd vs Beegees. I loved it and bravo to you sir.
I felt Whitney over Earth Angel went over a bit better than the reverse. Maybe this tells us that vocals in straight time work fine over a shuffled beat, but vocals in shuffled time don’t map so cleanly to a straight beat
My only complaint is that he used the Marvin and the starlights (BttF cover band in the movie) instead of the original Penguins version only because of his line about it sounding modern for 80s or 90s. It might be true, but we aren't sure yet. But it very much did sound amazing!
10:18 Since I first heard it in 1979, Pink Floyd's "Brick in the Wall 2" has always sounded overtly disco to me. It's their Blondie's "Heart of Glass", their E.L.O.'s "Don't Bring Me Down", their Rod Stewart's "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?", their Sweet's "Love Is Like Oxygen", their KISS's "I Was Made for Loving You", their Led Zeppelin's "All My Love", and a fairly, fairly long etcetera. A whole lot of Pop, Glam, Hard Rock and even Prog Rock bands and soloists of the era turned their hand to disco, at least for one album in the late 1970s. Disco was everywhere. Disco was where it was at. You simply couldn't escape *_DISCO_* 😱😱🕺💃
I remember some documentary where they said the producer took Gilmour and Mason to a disco on a saturday night to catch that feeling for that song. They accomplished the mission, but later, Gilmour commented "at least, it doesn't not sound as a Pink Floyd song".
I think that is the case with many mashups. For example, I feel that Hotel California is improved by putting it to the accompaniment of I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.
It strikes me as ironic that the two songs that are basically the same - clocks and speed of sound - were the hardest to mash up lol. Really shows the difference key centers can make
@@samueldesmond440 Yeah. The official rules are that remixes, mash-ups and covers don't count, just the original song. Plus, as someone else pointed out, it only counts in December anyway.
I’ve always compared the end of One Day Like This to the end of Hey Jude. It was obviously inspired by it, but I didn’t realise it was literally the same key and chords. The Hey Jude vocals over One Day Like This instrumental sounds great.
Pink Floyd deliberately sought inspiration from disco for their song "Another Brick in the Wall". This was a strategic move encouraged by the band’s producer, Bob Ezrin, who aimed to give the track broader appeal by incorporating a danceable beat.
holy cow - the example of PF/Beegees shows how important style is versus particular chords!! Reminds me of all those jazz players who say the rhythm is more important than the tones.
Havana Vs Smooth sounds sooo cool. I love it. Especially when Smooth vocals and Havana's music.. Thanks very much for coming up with Such Amazing ideas to share with us David. 😊 Keep up the Great Job 💯👍
These are great for live song medleys! I’d love to see a whole series on these if you want to produce it. Another interesting one is that “7 Nation Army”, “Sweet Dreams”, “Let’s Get It Started” and “Backstreet’s Back” all use the same progression
I love this video series, I'm looking forward to more videos. Great job! As a fan of mashups, I would love it if you created a playlist with all these songs. Not only do I find it interesting and refreshing, but it is also fun to see people's reactions when they hear it.
When I heard Speed of Sound as a kid, I've always thought that it sounded similar to Clocks, and I have always believed that it is the sequel to Clocks. I didn't know why. Today you have explained to me, one of my life's mysteries. Thank you. I appreciate you
That Beatles "Hey Jude" (1968) coda was also used by Velvet Underground, in "Oh! Sweet Nuthin" (1971) and Primal Scream in "Loaded" (1990) - both superb songs in their own right.
Less educational, but funnier is the switching between songs of lyrics, with melody and backing music, called "One Song to the Tune of Another" by a long-running BBC Radio 4 comedy show. One switch that comes to mind right now is the words to "Amazing Grace" sung to the tune of "The House of the RIsing Sun." As you might imagine, there are many other pairs - a common lyric easily used to almost any tune is Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing."
excellent video and mixing these tracks together has made my mind go very discombobulated and spaced out. I think I need to sit down for an hour or two to get back to normal:0)

Elbow may not have been consciously inspired by The Beatles; it's so easy to have something in your subconscious and no idea where it came from. This was fun - thanks for sharing.
Wicked game from Chris Isaack with Stronger from Within Temptation. I actually mashed them up myself for fun when stronger came out. Well, the version of chris isaak singing on sympohonic metal was pretty nice
I've always thought it was Faster by WT that riffed Wicked Game. I think they even referenced it in the interviews at the time of The Unforgiving album release.
That Hey Jude progression has been used in so many songs, although the one that immediately comes to mind is Lady Gaga's "You and I." You can literally sing the "na na na, na..." over the chorus of that song without altering anything.
Ok, you're going to need to do a full version of Last Christmas vocals with Birds of a Feather. I can feel a potential Christmas number 1 with that track 😂
Oh my god, Another Brick In The Wall over the instrumental of Stayin' Alive was inspired; I could easily see that being on a Party Ben or Neil Cicierega mixtape.
I liked much "Clocks" even before it became a single or Peter Pan movie Soundtrack. When heard "Speed of Sound" I know these two are very alike each other.
loving these videos. I love how you can just switch the music of a song and the lyrics, and they sound the same. Reminds me of when my friends was asking me and saying "you know that song gimme love by sia? it reminds me of some other song but I have no idea what". I listened to the song by sia, having never heard it before. and as soon as I heard the chorus I thought "hey, that sounds very similar to halo by beyonce". didnt think of it much for months. then I watched one chord swapping song yesterday, and then after watching this one today i decided to look up the chord to gimme love and halo. according to ultimate guitar, gimme love has the chord progression G-Am-Em-C, and halo also has G-Am-Em-C - the exact same chord progression xD. maybe I should have been a musician ^_^

"Fancy" by Bobbie Gentry (covered by Reba McEntire) and "The Ride" by David Allan Coe What I'd really like to hear is some mash-up collabs. As much as I like this pitch shifting, track stripping, tempo matching rubbish, a lot of these bands are still extant and, as far as we can tell, amicable enough that you could get them in a room together.
📌SMALL MISTAKE: I used the wrong album art for the Linkin Park song! Sorry for any confusion. 😅

Good guy Dave pointing this out.
I used to sing the lyrics of Zombie by Cranberries over the music of One by U2
Please check out viva la vida by coldplay and joe sat If i could fly
Havana vocals with Smooth instrumental is actually amazing.
They should collab together on a remix with actual mixing of the two songs
It's very pleasant.
smooth vocals with smooth instrumental is even better
There are mashups of those two on youtube already.
@actipton80 They're not official. They're not uploaded by Camila and Santana
David has worked out a reeeeally smooth way to put old classic songs in his videos while avoiding any copyright claims! Smart move, man!
🥳🥳
Indeed, and to be fair, people doing mashups and covers that change the style a lot have been doing the same thing for a long time.
Bee Gees X Pink Floyd did NOT need to be that good, but that was incredible.
There's a bigger mix out there adding in Another One Bites the Dust by Queen, the Imperial March from Star Wars and Superstition by Stevie Wonder
there is already a well know mashup of those artists by Wax Audio
Staying Alive in the Wall.....
Yes that was epic
OMG, The “Birds of a Feather” vocals over the “Last Christmas” instrumental sounds so beautiful
I loved the reverse, we need more chill Christmas music 😅
I read this comment first and thought it was going to be the sitcom theme tune 😂
Yeah those two mash really well.
Combining 4/4 "I Will Always Love You" with 6/8 "Earth Angel" was impressive
I felt Whitney over Earth Angel went over a bit better than the reverse. Maybe this tells us that vocals in straight time work fine over a shuffled beat, but vocals in shuffled time don’t map so cleanly to a straight beat
Are you sure it isn't 4/4 with triplets rather than 6/8?
Remember that timestretch is your best friend
@pensivepenguin3000 That is good advice

But it very much did sound amazing!
Another Bee In The Gees goes HARD.
That's what pink Floyd was trying to do so it makes sense! Neat
The Pink Gees and Bee Floyds both sound goo-ood! :)
The Havana vocals over Smooth and the Billie Eilish Wham mixes were bangers!
And then there's AllStar by Smash Mouth which works literally over any chord progression.
I want to see a video on this! 😂
"All Star but the time signatures are The Dance Of Eternity" is one of the greatest things ever.

And add ELO's "Shine a Little Love" (also 1979) to that long list ;)
@@bouwebear597 Absolutely 👍
David Bowie “Young Americans” wonders how it was omitted from the list ;)
@@stevebabiak6997 Haha!! I could've included tons of other examples, but long supermarket lists tend to be boring. 🤣🤣
"Havana" over the "Smooth" instrumental was a significant improvement for both songs!
Cause Rob Thomas is not a good singer.
Santana without Carlos Santanas guitar is not Santana ....
I love both of those songs and I didn’t know it was possible for them to be even better
I very much disagree
I think that is the case with many mashups. For example, I feel that Hotel California is improved by putting it to the accompaniment of I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.
Clocks instrumental and Speed of Sound vocals actually sound amazing together.
Birds of a Feather vocals x Last Christmas instrumental sounds like Fleetwood Mac
Another brick in the wall is ABSOLUTEY disco. Only purists and gatekeepers would argue otherwise.
Yeah no doubt about it
Tell that to the die hard progressive rock "intellectuals" back in the day, they'd probably throw tantrums left and right 😂
It strikes me as ironic that the two songs that are basically the same - clocks and speed of sound - were the hardest to mash up lol. Really shows the difference key centers can make
my first thought was coldplay were trying to "get away with" using the same progression, but making the keys as far apart as possible.
There is a Mashup of clocks with do you remember the time with Michael Jackson it sounds great
Whammed, and it isn't even December yet!!!!!!

The Bee Gees and Pink Floyd swap is something I never knew I needed!
I love that - in contrast to playing the original versions - you seem to have less problems in playing longer sections on youtube.
It’s a great way to bamboozle the copyright system!
Earth Angel over Whitney's instrumental sounds like it's straight out of a David Lynch movie!
10:52 Hey, teacher, leave the groove alone!!!
Ok, I need a full version of Linkin Red Hot Chili Park - Numbside
The first one with Numb chords and Otherside lyrics
I fully expect a breakdown of Neil Cicierega's work when he comes across him.
Pink Floyd deliberately sought inspiration from disco for their song "Another Brick in the Wall". This was a strategic move encouraged by the band’s producer, Bob Ezrin, who aimed to give the track broader appeal by incorporating a danceable beat.
Funnily enough, Pater Kay did the Hey Jude / One Day Like This Mashup at the end of the 2009 Children In Need Single and it sounds great!
Came here to say the same.
Petition to release all of these on UA-cam. Some of these are so amazing!
Loving these mashups David!!

I jammed to the “Stayin’ Alive” one for a moment before my jaw dropped and my reality crumbled.
Should be a movie scene
I'd love to see the Floyd's reaction to the mash-up with the Bee Gees. Absolutely brilliant. Great series. Keep 'em coming...
There was a famous mashup of Van Helen’s Jump with Imagine that should be revisited.
The Bee Gees and Pink Floyd are both amazing songwriters and musicians. And it's chilling how good they sound when mashed together.
Hella impressive video. Very comprehensive and thoughtfully put together. Kudos!

This is the first time I realised that "Clocks" and "Speed of Sound " were actually different songs.
Coldplay play clocks at every concert, but they never play speed of sound, I think Chris Martin even said he doesn't like it or whatever, so strange
You could have just mashed up songs but you weaved in at lot of music theory to keep this super interesting - another great vid!
Numb is from Meteora
