Here’s a few more tips that I haven’t seen in guides. Eating a multivitamin will allow you to eat food that would normally make you sick. Carrying meat in the woods can attract wolves, which can be a real pain to deal with early on. If you’re having trouble with zombies, you can get them to chase you to a house, close the door before they get inside, and you can melee attack them through the windows without them being able to attack you.
as someone who has played a lot of rust I always find the chill vibes of dayz and the true survival of vanilla such a nice change of pace I normally dont have much problem finding loot and dealing with hunger but I do always end up getting to cold or to wet and get sick and end up only living a few hours max before the sickness gets me but I never find myself getting very frustrated as I have never built a base or anything so i just take it one life at a time but learning about the hand drill kit may make a big difference in that
The hand drill kit is nice but when you start fires try to be in a house as it’s a safer place bc they can only see the smoke but campfires can be seen up to 1km away
Having a cold will not kill you ever, hypothermia however will fix this by wringing out clothes or make a fire and if u do know this neither can ever kill you but what will kill you and i can guarantee no new player will ever know this is drinking the water you found within the container that you found it in always always empty water containers and once you've refilled it yourself you are good to go, also the sickness contaminated water gives you can be fixed with tetracycline pills and even without you do this by eating tiny bites, drinking tiny Sips making sure you dont throw up! Hope this is useful to you good luck out there!
@@briansutton3088 coughing also plays an animation, where you cover your mouth, this can interrupt your actions and also covers up the bottom edge of your screen
Just got this game about a week ago. Last played it when it was just a mod for Arma II. My 1st 10 or so games I died to hunger and thirst. Was head shot by a spawn camper once. I struggle with the lack of useable loot exactly as you described. I watched this video, and tried again. In the at least 20 times I've played and died, I've never seen knuckle dusters! Was more selective with the gear I actually picked up, and crossed everything for a better run. Here is how it went. Every item of clothing was bright red. But at least I was warm. I never found anything to drink. I found a few items of food on some zombies. Never found a gun of any kind. Never found any gloves. Never even found a back pack of any description that wasn't ruined and unuseable. I feel I had an unlucky run, but having said that, I also feel that your run in this video was slightly more on the lucky side than what I have seen to be normal. I'll definitely watch this again at least once, and use all the tips you gave and hopefully I'll have a little more luck with it. Number 1 tip I got feom this video the 1st time I watched it was the fact that you can actually block melee attacks!!! That's got to be a game changer!
I'm a man of my word. If the people ask for it and I think it's a worthwhile idea, I definitely will eventually get it done. Here you are sir. Thank you for the inspiration and the continued support of what I do. LEGEND💙🤠
I’m pretty new to Dayz, but I’ve been having trouble finding loot. After watching this, I realize why. First, I didn’t even know I could block, that really comes in handy when it comes to surviving zombies. Second, because of the high excess of zombies, I had been looting more rural areas near the coast, which now I’ve learned is much worse that going into the city and looting. Thank you!
@@karina4t Right mouse button to block, left to hit and Shift-LMB for power attack (takes more stamina so I never use it). I usually keep RMB button pressed while hitting with LMB.
From the comments it seems like a lot of people who are saying that they have not been able to get loot no matter how hard they try, the difference between them and people like yourself tend to be the experience of knowing the map and knowing what types of buildings have what supplies. And as much as you teach us unfortunately experiences the best teacher for that. Thanks again for the videos bro these are excellent learning tips.
I agree 100% and try to say that to the people complaining about loot in the comments, but it doesn't get through to most. Some people just want to get stacked immediately and play the game like an FPS🤣 DayZ is a game you have to truly take the time to learn to be good at.
@@bwad99 I've been playing rust for for over 4 years with like 7K hours and I understand these types of games are extremely complex and zero substitutions for experience. That's why even though I'm pretty s*** at PVP I still destroy noobs every time because I have game since and understanding of the way the systems in the game work. Just last night I was checking out a new server and had just spawned in with enough loot to start building a base but no weapons. Someone started shooting a bow at me and was so horrible they missed every shot I escaped through down a base. If that was me at 1K hours I would have died easily. It's all about understanding the basics. Again man thanks for the videos. I'm going to try today and see what you've taught me how I can apply it.
I've literally looted every building in an entire town and come back with barely anything, at that point it's a problem with the game not the player, why do you think the community servers have three times as much player base 🤣🤣 the game needs the 3 to 5x loot
@@pabloeskybruh7154 I agree...there are a lot of empty buildings. Something as simple as finding a stone (which should be the easiest thing to do) is hard for no reason...lol.
I just got the game today and played my first character. I died really quick. I maybe lasted 5 minutes. I looked up a guide and watched at few, but your's was by far the best. My second character stayed alive a lot longer. I totally subbed to you.
I recently started playing. I had issues finding food to get started. I learned to spend a few minutes walking in woods finding fruit and mushrooms to fill myself up with. It really wasn't that hard. Less stress than running in towns dodging players and Zeds. As long ad the fruit and mushrooms aren't rotten, it was a good way to fill up before trying to go in towns to search. Depending on the town, it might all be looted. Just search around base of trees and you will easily find enough to get started
I'm guessing you've not ran into wolves then phaha best thing to bump into mid towns with no food and meds phaha.. healing on DAYZ is poff and the biggest let down of the experience
I'm frustrated now.. 😂 very FIRST several games I found compass, claymore mines, grenades,etc... NOW?? I have a better handle at things I can't find anything like what I was finding in the beginning. There was something I found and as I'm looking to see what it was.. a player knocks me out... I wake up hog-tied... 😕 THEN😂🤣 another unsuspecting victim runs up and they have a sec at gunplay... Idek what happened after because I made like explosive diarrhea... Got the h outta there 😂🤣...😔😑and was shortly greeted by two hungry zeeks.. 😅😂🤣😂 I love this game. Best since 7days.. AND state of decay... 🤔 It's actually like PUBG had a lovechild by 7days... 🤯😅
Done that more than once. I look for orchards near spawn town. Many roads are lined with fruit trees. IZurvive map shows where and what kind fruit trees are located.
your video’s have really helped a friend and i get into this game when we have been giving it a half hearted go, for about a year, off and on. finally learning and falling in love with a game we knew had a lot of potential, just didn’t know how to navigate it! thanks bwad!!! love ya! keep it up!!
That's my goal. To help people like you and your friend love and appreciate this game as much as I do. Love stories like this man, hell yeah! Good luck out there🤠
Great too see the guides, always watched Frankie on UA-cam back in the day and finally got into the game recently because of your videos. Keep up the good content and the streams.
@@bwad99 same thank goodness he's back! He chose his health and found a girlfriend along the way but yeah he's uploading again and the videos are great as always.
Great tips, but what a lucky spawn. I've spawned in Berezino a lot and never had a run like that, so I imagine the server loot must've been fresh. Even with an unlucky spawn however these are good tips, and have helped me survive to find an unlooted town.
Also a quick tip collared dresses and flags will give you 6 rags so if you do need rags and quickly those tend to help to keep in mind what clothes give you the most rags
Thank you Bwad! Just getting restarted after almost a year without playing, and though I mod and watch a LOT of streaming, I learned quite a lot and refreshed a lot. Much appreciated!
2-3 years ago was the last time I played DayZ and I remember it being so unfair that it was fun. Used to get stuck at spawn locations and dying or killing fresh spawns, I didn’t even know how big the map was in general. DayZ takes a lot of time to learn, and understand and it’s good to see channels always willing to help DayZ new and vet players learn a lot about it! I played this on Console and people on that play 2 ways. They never talk and instantly kill all players in front, or if they do talk they’ll kill you at your most unexpected time. The problem with console was players just spam chatting you wanting to make a squad and too me I hated that because it didn’t feel like I met they randomly in a town and we teamed up (on console this was extremely rare). But now I have returned to DayZ and I feel like a noob again as I don’t remember any of it. This is why guides like this help players, because as my 2-3 days being back on this game I’m lost, can’t find a soul or don’t know what certain items are good to take early. Thank you for helping!
2 of the best encounters I’ve had involved me running by a random in the woods, ended up going the distance with both of them. Built a base with one that took an IRL week, & ran the other to VMC where he sadly died
Good video. When I first started to play I did have a hard time finding stuff but I 100% agree that Zombies are very underrated when it comes to loot. When I first spawn in I look for Zombies for the fact that they can carry food and water. I am one of those players that would plant food for people to find or I will grow a crop then harvest all of it to feed my self then plant some seeds, leave some seeds and water other plots.
Scrounging along fruit trees has saved my life early on so many times. A lot of players I've talked to miss that. They also ignore dried and rotten fruit. Dried fruit is still nutritious. And if you cook rotten fruit to the burnt status, it still gives you nutrition without making u sick. Plus, they're great early in the game due to the itty bitty space they take up.
I don't talk about it much because it's just not worth the time to go loot unless you're insanely desperate. Like I said in the video, my goal is to get out of spawn as fast as possible and fruit is not a good long term option at food. If I can't find enough canned items to fill me up, I fish. If I pass over fruit I'll pick some up and eat it just for more calories, but I'm not about the find and cook fruit strategy personally 🤣
Fruit is well worth it these days on the Chernarus map. Once you know which trees spawn the fruits, you can get to full apple within 20-30min. Its almost TO easy.
@@patricksmith8171 You didnt read my message. You can get full apple(full energy) with only fruit in +/-20min when you walk in Elektro if you know the trees-location.
Excellent video. I've been trying to hang on to WAY to much non-essential "stuff" without really looking at what I need in the moment. I've been "run out of room...ing myself", without leaving enough slots for food.
Yeah man i been playing since 2013 and have really never had a problem looting then heading inland. One of the biggest problem i see is noobs just run around wild trying to loot and end up with a zombie horde on them. So maybe show them how to move and crouch around zombies. Thanks man awesome video!
I do showcase that in this video, plus I've made a stealth guide. I agree, many new players do take the wrong approach at first, but that horde of zombies will teach them🤣
Thank you for this guide. I’ve been playing for less than a week and I avoided guides the first day or two until I got frustrated. Your video has helped tremendously.
Something worth thinking about: He mentioned he likes to keep all of his most important items in his backpack. What I do is I keep all my food and utility items in there, and all my MOST important items in my pockets i.e. Guns, ammo, knife, water, Medical. Because after you've looted a ton you lose max stamina, and if you get into a fight you don't need to fight with your food and repair kits on you so you can drop the backpack somewhere to increase your max stamina and give yourself a better chance, plus if you die you have a stash of some useful starting gear when you respawn as long as they don't find your stash.
No. Either I misspoke or you misunderstood what I said here. My intended message was that I found a hunting bag (top tier bag to most people) and that there unlikely something I would swap out for it, while I was still looking for better clothes. My point was that WHILE LOOTING in the spawn area, I keep items in the inventory spaces I know I won't change or change as often so that you dont have to reorganizeyour loot everytime you switch a clothing item. I didn't say to do this late game as a pvp tactic lol
@@bwad99 Ok Mr. Bwad, Well I do this as soon as I get a bag, and it takes me all of two seconds to switch my loot, I keep it organized this way from the start but just wait until I’m at a fire (I play on nemalsk mostly so I have a lot of time to reorganize) I would rather keep my mags and heals in my shirt and pants and food in my backpack from the start and if I run into people I can’t fight I stash my food and sewing kits for my next life. At the point at the end when you said this you we’re definitely sufficiently geared to get into some fights and your max stamina was well close to half gone.
I liked this walkthrough video because it's the full first hour, all the little (insignificant?) details are covered because of this. Keeping moving, certain types of buildings to loot, all this is great for a new starter like myself.
I've taken up too much of your time with our conversation, but I did enjoy having that with you. I want to add that your videos are top notch and entertaining to watch. I do believe that people will learn things from your examples. I just hope that people don't spend $50 U.S. to only discover just how frustrating it will be for them.
Awesome video! Really gave me the feel of being a day z player! The game just got on my radar a little bit ago. Was researching it for game dev inspiration, and this video will help a ton!
One thing I didnt notice you do that I think is a good tip. Some weapons come with ammo so you could've picked up the shotties and checked them for ammo even though you were going to obviously keep the double barrel
@@bwad99 No, but it gives you a chance to grasp the basic survival aspects and how and where to gear up from spawn points, which seems to be a lot of people's issue.
@@joshingtonbarthsworth631 I agree that those are the issues but by playing on an empty server you're not able to learn the dynamic of how a life in DayZ really is. Half of the game is handling other situations with players and learning to survive without plentiful loot on the coast. On an empty server you don't get that, nor do you play the game with caution since there's minimal risk involved. The best way to learn DayZ ( if your goal is to eventually join a full server for adventure pvp etc) is to throw yourself into the action and learn from your mistakes every death. It's a philosophy I will take with me to the grave lol.
@@joshingtonbarthsworth631 if it works for you then keep doing it dude! I just really believe in my method and try to encourage others to not be afraid! The biggest thing really is that when you transition eventually from low to higher pop servers, you might be afraid to interact with other players because it's not something you're used to doing. When really it's half the experience!🤠 GGs man, keep at it!
When it comes to blocking or hitting a zombie, doesnt fully depend on how good you get, depends on your Ping too Haha. Good video man, many new players need to watch this, your right, the amount of mates of mine who give up so easily, cause their not willing to learn
Hahaha the ping definitely plays a part! But thanks dude. It's sad that so many games cater and hand hold rather than just letting players experience and have the satisfaction of building up their own skills. Because then when they come to a game like dayz they have zero patience and don't have the will power to die a few times and learn from what went wrong. Today's generation of gamers (and people) desire INSTANT gratification. Dayz will almost never provide that hahaha.
Just found this game 2 days ago on series X. Didn’t know what to think at first and was starving and dehydrating almost every time. Found your channel yesterday and actually made a nice amount of time and enjoyed the game much more. Looking forward to more content
Of course. I see it as time invested in helping DayZ grow as a game and a community. I love it and want to help share and spread the love I have for it. Glad you found it helpful🤠
I appreciate the long form this is exactly what I was looking for! Just bought it after years of wanting to check it out lol. I watched some other guides but an actual walkthrough is more what I needed thank you man
I have 5.5k hours and I watched the whole hour. This is exactly what my first hour of a life looks like, but with more sprinting and I check every house that I know might have a possibilty to spawn a shotgun and or shells. Also I try and hit every hunting stand within my loot path
Nice! I don't tend to sprint as it'll plummet my early food levels while I'm still trying to stabilize my immune system and fill up. Plus it'll get you some unwanted attention if you're running around making too much noise.
Another tip for a fresh spawn. Cut up a body & with the guts you can make rope and the bones make a fishing hook. Cut a bush down for a long stick and now you have a fishing rod. Dig into the dirt for worms and you’re all set to fish. Also you can only do it with Large guts either from a big animal, dead zombie or another survivor.
Glad you enjoy them! This was sort of an experiment to see if people would enjoy and appreciate a long walk through style type of video versus a more traditional, condensed guide. I was given the idea by someone in my community to help people that struggle starting out by literally just going through the whole process myself! Glad you found it to be helpful. Gonna continue this as a sort of series in the future 😀
I love how in all these videos they always find tons of stuff. I played maybe 10 lives yesterday. In some life cycles I didn't find any kind of blade at all. Can't do much without something to cut with.
You can craft knives with either bones or stones. These looting videos I make are made on high populated official dayz servers, and I still find all that lol.
bawd99 walks into first two buildings: saw, silenced gun, clothes, bottle, can opener me walking into first 10 buildings: car radiators, nurses uniforms, skirts, suits me walking around churn in nurses uniform....
Or you skip the shitty towns and head straight to the sniper rifle so you be that sniper. I mean, you can know all the locations, but you are just looting for someone else when they simply 1 shot you. You're just a moving backpack if you aint PvP'ing a lot. You need to get used to the guns and master them eventually. Head to sobor at least, don't even bother the coast towns, just for water and some key buildings. Let others loot the stuff for you.
One thing that killed me when I came back to the game in 2020 was putting so much emphasis on finding a knife and not cooking animals and just all around not knowing I could use a crowbar to cut up chicken or other animals. Watching some crafting vids can help you a ton!
A lot of the pure basics to survival on DayZ are very much common sense or "damn I shoulda thought of that" type stuff. Usually if you just test some things out you might surprise yourself! :)
when you mentioned at the start that people die to quickly i had one most recent run where i had a shotgun pistol and fully clothed i was just searching for food and couldn't find any but thanks to this guide i know where to start
I sucked at this game. Could not survive very long at all. Watched many of your videos over the last 3 days and they are so informative it's amazing. I now know how to cook, fish, fix myself and enjoy the game a LOT more. The gag of rags and shoes off for stealth! A whole new thought process starting now. And the wells! Didn't even know thats what they were. Thank you so much! I'm opening a beer and going back in \o
haven't played since the ARMA II mod days, bought the standalone and super excited to get back into it! these guides have made me confident enough to hop on some public servers!
Cooking fruit and vegetables is a good mid game way to keep food because it makes them yield more energy and fires attract players but if you use it to cook like five things and move on you will prevent the cold and have better food and most players see a fire and think that they can rob you so you can use that fire to slow down bandits
Fruit and veggies are borderline first hour desperation food, definitely not mid game tier. Hunting and fishing is mid-end game level food that will actually be worth your time to cook and stop for a fire for.
Damn dawg! I just started this this morning. I fell for all the newb issues but you answered all my questions! I just need to figure out how to turn inventory items and I'll be good. Cheers to you!
Within 5 minutes of gameplay, you'd found more than I did last night during a fresh spawn and running around for 2 hours getting sick and becoming a cannibal to survive 😂😂
This server seems to have like 200% increased loot to the one I am playing on, otherwise a great instructional vid! It usually takes me hours in a city to find the kind of loot you stumble upon here in 20 minutes, not sure what i am doing wrong since i am hitting every house
You just have to keep in mind that every character isnt permanent. You will die a lot. Sometimes if two or more people spawn before you, the loot will be scarce. It can be beneficial to just see what you can find, if unlucky, you'll just die with possibly a better spawn point with more loot around. Or (and I don't like doing this myself) some people find a spot to climb up and jump off to kill themselves to get a better spawn.
A saw, a knife, clothes a plastic bottle and a gun all within like 5 minutes. That’s insane, I’ve spawned many times in the same location and looted the same place and never got nearly as lucky as that
I purchased this game, so I was very stubborn, and wanted to learn it but I've been trash. Every damn "Beginners guide," wasn't terrible but wasn't that helpful and a lot of redundant. Your video, while I was not sure if I could sit through an hour (I absolutely did) was by far the best video I've ever seen, and showed me what I've been doing wrong, and not right. Thank you so so so so so so much!!!!
Honestly better to just play the Arma 2 or 3 dayz mods there 1000000x better and actually have shit for you to loot. Instead of only finding shoes and pants everywhere you go. I can't stand this version.
Bwadd. Since watching your vids. I've excelled as dayz player. I have taken some players I just find wandering under my wing and help them survive too. So much fun. Any guns I find if I'm alone go straight into the river lol.
Oh my goodness I feel stupid, I didn't realize you had to look in the vicinity for loot, I thought it just spawned on the ground. Thankyou for the guide!
Yeah, it's not a nice and fair way how the loot gets distributed. But you will find the good stuff in the same buildings, over and over. So a town can be done in a couple of seconds/minutes and you will have exactly the same stuff.
I play on one of the “official” MI servers. A question… 1) How long do buried caches, bases, etc last? (If I bury a stash and stop playing the game, how many real-life days do I have before it disappears?) Is this what’s happening when I see “Server resetting in 90 minutes” in red on bottom of screen?
1. They should last 40ish days IRL if untouched. Longer if it's interacted with. 2. That just means the server will temporarily go down and come back up. It wipes dead bodies and helps make the server run smoothly agaib
@@bwad99 yo man, I was looking into spawn mechanics on the wiki, and came across a list of items and their despawn times when left untouched. The despawn time for a buried stash was stated as 14 days, which reminded me of this comment asking about it I’d seen earlier. Idk if this is actually the case in game, as I don’t know much of anything when it comes to specific despawn times, so I’m in no way trying to tell you you’re wrong, in case it comes across that way lol. It could easily just be outdated, or it could have been changed to 14 in a game update in the time since you replied to this comment. Every single storage container other than the stash had a despawn time of 45 days though, making it very easy for anyone to assume the stash is as well, so I just wanted to bring it to your attention, just to be safe! :)
You are the certified chicken serial killer of Dayz! This was a really helpful video and I look forward to catching up on your other ones as well. I'm gonna start the game up pretty soon after I get through a couple other games. Never played it but always liked the videos and wanted to try it
Nice video. Getting ready to get the game, what I see it will take a bit to understand what things are just by looking at them. That will take time and game play. Great video and thank you.

I wish they would pop a cursur up in the inventory to move stuff. You should be able to at least click on it to pick it up to move. The hold button then move it around barely works half the time
Hey don’t know if you remember me or not but I had only just started out in dayz after watching some of your videos a while back and now a good month and a bit later and I’ve actually found the game to be so much more fun than I initially thought like for a while I was put off by the often confusing inventory management and how sparse the official servers where but after finding out about the custom servers and especially the pvp ones I was hooked like there’s something just really fun about spawning in finding a decent amount of loot getting some kills dying and doing it all over again I mean I liked it in the official servers too but given that the community ones actually have decent drop rates I play there just about exclusively now anyway I’m just writing this to thank you and the videos you make for inspiring me to give it another shot despite an underwhelming first impression:)
That's awesome dude! There's a server and a game style for everyone on DayZ, and I'm glad you found your sweet spot. I recognize that DayZ has a steep learning curve and can be off putting to new players, so one of my main goals with the guide content is to encourage people like you to keep going and find your way-- because with enough time and experience and a little server surfing for the experience that fits you best, you'll probably love this game. I love stories like yours man, it makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing what I set out for. So, thank you for the time taken to write me that message and for giving DayZ a shot. Much love, keep on trucking :)
@@bwad99 no problem it’s actually been a pretty great experience I’ve had some interesting encounters and a bunch of fun playing it the server I’ve been playing the most recently and that I’d recommend is called pvp city it’s got a decent amount of players and a bunch of stuff to do so it’s made dayz a lot more worthwhile for me and I’m honestly just glad I stuck with it keep up the good work.
This is the thing, here for example you found a hacksaw in the first 60 seconds didn't even mention it. Sometimes I won't find a hacksaw or knife for 15 minutes having combed 25 buildings. Therefore can't make a fire and starter for example. I always never fired enough. Always 1 thing missing
I am not having any luck surviving. Haven’t even seen another live player but I can’t make it an hour without dying to hunger. Hope this helps and thanks for taking the time to make this video
I know you don’t like book bags. Nor do but I when I do find a Burlap sack I always make an improvised one, 42 slot one. As it’s very sleek and not noticeable like the rest. As well it’s tan color helps with camouflage if your into that also.
It's just evidence that with time and experience the game gets much easier. I've looted up and survived the coast countless times at this point, so yeah its gonna seem easy to me-- but the point of video is for you to watch what I do and learn from how I loot towns. What buildings do I loot? What items do I prioritize. Etc.
the first player i came across i could hear his footsteps and i knew he was looking for me so i pointed my pump shotgun towards the door and sure i got first kill in self defense 😅
I just started playing this game for the very first time yesterday, in Jan. 2024. I played for a total of about 4hrs. I am hooked immediately. I heard for years this game was / is trash. Well with R6 Siege servers acted stupid for the last couple weeks, I was looking for a new game to play. Day Z is a new daily grind I’m gonna be on for a while! I regret not trying the game years ago! Thanks for this video and walkthrough, it’s gonna help me for sure as a brand new player. This video gave you a new subscriber.
Im type of a new player on ps4, i use to play dayz so much back in 2015 on PC with my friends, just got it again for ps4 a few days ago and yes it is hard to find loot but not impossible, my first 3 days i would say i could not find gear at all, like everywhere i went it was empty, i died about 8 times trying. 2 days ago i finally started to find gear and very good loot, i found a military base after so long but by that point i had decent gear to survive, im walking with a KAS-74U a SGK-5 i just found like 10 min before commenting this, and a few other basic guns. The amount of crazy experiences i just had have been heart racing and very fkn fun 💪🏽 as im typing this i was siting on a house then i hear clicking noices so im assuming someone tried to shoot me without having ammo and then realized they had a suppressor on but who ever it was, was very close to me because the sounded so close. But thats what i mean by crazy experiences. You never know what might happen, trying nit to get attached to my gear so i dont be missing it when i die. Forgot to mention i been surviving with this character since this past Thursday oct 20th till today sat oct 22 💪🏽 point is keep playing it gets fun, even if you have died 10 times with out getting loot keep playing, you will.
Thank you, i am new to dayz (about 3.5 hours) and have died about 4 times already one form running with low blood pressure, idkif it was the zombies killing me when i was uncon or just from the low blood pressure itself (i was full health flashing flashing red blood)
Tip on finding food, if you have a pc and look for the izurvive map online the pc version of the map will show you every tree that drops fruit. For some reason this isnt a feature on the mobile app and a but part of why i was always dying was cause of food, but thats because although i knew about the fruit trees i didnt know exactly what trees they were and where because the mobile app wasnt giving me that info. Now ive just started playing again about a week ago and im not longer worried about dying from starvation. All i have to do now is watch myself and take care of myself so i dont get sick and waste my medicine.
A brand new player won't know their way around a completely foreign map either. There's also much easier and more reliable methods than searching just fruit trees.
I just got this.. My first outing I beat a zombie to death with my bare hands, got infected, found some stuff to wear and a gun to look at, climbed a ladder, jumped off a small building broke my legs, passed out crawled around and died of starvation. Quite fun so far how do you find your way around without a map or compass?
Leaning this game alone is nearly impossible. Spawning at night in the hills is a death sentence to a noob. It took me several days and countless respawns before I even started recognizing the coastal towns. I would have never found the water pumps without an online map. I didn't know that "loot cycling" was a thing, or that drinking from a looted water bottle would kill me, or that I could spawn fruit by lingering near trees. The starter villages had nothing on full servers; just drenched low tier clothing, useless car parts, and glow sticks. I was happy to find a motorcycle helmet. The streets were littered with bodies and body parts, and the unending crow of roosters was interrupted only by sporadic gunfire. Harrowing experience. I had to learn everything the hard way. Now I know the best stash and base locations, so I just steal all the gear I need.
If you spawn in the hills it's because you're hopping between different servers on official with the same character. I advise against that if you're new lol. Also, you just said the game is impossible to learn but then explained how you've learned different things through your experiences. It's not supposed to be easy. The game doesn't tell you how to do certain things because it's intended for you to explore, experiment, and experience the things that will kill you or keep you alive. Dayz is unique for it's brutal, harsh gameplay and for the opportunity presented to get something we can picture as an "authentic apocalypse experience" with others on the same server for an added risk. P.S don't loot cycle. It's scummy. It ruins the loot economy and makes the game boring. Spawn towns are flooded with used and wet items because PEOPLE SPAWN THERE lol. They're looking for the same items you are and likely just got there before you. Gather what you can and move on to a new location. This guide was filmed on a high pop server with other people in the town with me and I still got great gear. 🤷♂️🤠
“You’re not looking in the right place.” Goes to first open building and finds a se, water bottle, sweater, pistol. Lol
Exactly what I was thinking😂 I have never come across a pistol let alone a saw 😂
ikr, i still dont know where exactly im supposed to look, i got to more dense areas off spawn and get merc'd
Go to a low player server I have more luck that way in loot
I can’t find a water bottle for the life of me
For real hahah
Here’s a few more tips that I haven’t seen in guides. Eating a multivitamin will allow you to eat food that would normally make you sick. Carrying meat in the woods can attract wolves, which can be a real pain to deal with early on. If you’re having trouble with zombies, you can get them to chase you to a house, close the door before they get inside, and you can melee attack them through the windows without them being able to attack you.
Nice.
Ty bro!
Ty!
Thank you so much!!! This will come in handy!!!!
Thx
as someone who has played a lot of rust I always find the chill vibes of dayz and the true survival of vanilla such a nice change of pace I normally dont have much problem finding loot and dealing with hunger but I do always end up getting to cold or to wet and get sick and end up only living a few hours max before the sickness gets me but I never find myself getting very frustrated as I have never built a base or anything so i just take it one life at a time but learning about the hand drill kit may make a big difference in that
The hand drill kit is nice but when you start fires try to be in a house as it’s a safer place bc they can only see the smoke but campfires can be seen up to 1km away
Hope this is useful to you good luck out there!
getting a cough won't kill you. It will go away on its own eventually .
@@edlowe3111 the cough will give you away to other nearby players

100% agree with you
Im having big trouble myself as well yeah. Even in the big town with the Ferris wheel I was unable to find sufficient amounts of water and food..
I'm working crazy hours right now, but I am stoked you made this video. My evening when I get home is set. You're a legend.
Thank you!
No problem. Glad to help! You learn with time and experience buddy, keep at it!
Which button I use to block against zombies.. Playing on pc
@@karina4t Right mouse button to block, left to hit and Shift-LMB for power attack (takes more stamina so I never use it). I usually keep RMB button pressed while hitting with LMB.
I never find that much useful stuff right off the bat. Maybe because I'm on a low pop server.
@@ingeborgsvensson4896 how do u block on the ps4?
I've literally looted every building in an entire town and come back with barely anything, at that point it's a problem with the game not the player, why do you think the community servers have three times as much player base 🤣🤣
the game needs the 3 to 5x loot
Bought the game 4 days ago, and this comment is the truest thing I’ve read about any tips n the game.
Awesome dude! DayZ is a game that takes a lonnnnng time to learn and it comes with time spent experiencing and exploring. GGs dude!
You can eat rotten fruits in bits and rotten mushrooms no problem
Done that more than once. I look for orchards near spawn town. Many roads are lined with fruit trees. IZurvive map shows where and what kind fruit trees are located.
I've been playing DayZ for several years now, and this video has been the most helpful thing I've seen so far. I learned quite a bit.
Happy to help dude :)

Great tips, but what a lucky spawn. I've spawned in Berezino a lot and never had a run like that, so I imagine the server loot must've been fresh. Even with an unlucky spawn however these are good tips, and have helped me survive to find an unlooted town.
Yeah...I have never been that lucky. He found everything he needed in an hour.
because he's in a high loot server
Also a quick tip collared dresses and flags will give you 6 rags so if you do need rags and quickly those tend to help to keep in mind what clothes give you the most rags
I've learned so much watching your videos! I'm not even a day in on DayZ and you really helped in situations that I've been stuck in. You're awesome!
Thanks dude! Appreciate the kind words, and am glad to help!
We should play man
Well done. Very good information for the new player. I've only been on my 3rd life for about 45 minutes and gathered a lot of good tips here.
Awesome! Glad to help💙
@@bwad99 Unless they changed it, baked plum gives you the most calories per inventory slot.
Fruit is well worth it these days on the Chernarus map. Once you know which trees spawn the fruits, you can get to full apple within 20-30min. Its almost TO easy.
@@eddohan Apples and pears are life savers until you find all the essentials.
Learning to pick up what you really only need and sorting out the nonessential items is a huge step in progressing as a player. GG dude, keep it up!
Something worth thinking about:
He mentioned he likes to keep all of his most important items in his backpack.
Bro that's one of the best tips I've seen. I'm gonna start keeping all my Food and utilities in my bag. Thank you
I liked this walkthrough video because it's the full first hour, all the little (insignificant?) details are covered because of this.
They can learn about the frustration just by watching a few "how to" videos and reading the comments.
My 1st day was yesterday and I died 5 times but every time I found great things in a short time.
Awesome vid. Tnx
When I was first learning, I would go to empty servers and it helped me to figure out survival without struggling too much, generally.
But that doesn't prepare you for s real, live full server. The dynamics are both entirely different.
@@bwad99 Fair enough. Learning it in two separate chunks worked for me, but I do see what you're saying.
@@joshingtonbarthsworth631 if it works for you then keep doing it dude! I just really believe in my method and try to encourage others to not be afraid! When really it's half the experience!🤠 GGs man, keep at it!
Extremely helpful video, you are giving us tips on almost every minute of the video. Definitely deserves likes 👍
I love this kind of videos, I learn both english and Dayz stuff
That's awesome! GG dude.

@@bwad99 very true sir, I'm quick when I need to be. But stealth is survival.
All of your guides are awesome, this one however is probably THE most important
I concur.
When you crouched next to the fireplace it reminded me of a scared freshie who’s playing for the first time
It’s crazy how even after a wonderful start like this, one bullet from a sniper half a mile from you can take it all away
Welcome to DayZ🤠
You can open cans with meat tenderizer lol
when you mentioned at the start that people die to quickly i had one most recent run where i had a shotgun pistol and fully clothed i was just searching for food and couldn't find any but thanks to this guide i know where to start
That's awesome dude. So glad to help! Good luck out there :)
haven't played since the ARMA II mod days, bought the standalone and super excited to get back into it! these guides have made me confident enough to hop on some public servers!

This is an official server. If you aren't finding loot in the spawn areas, you need to move on to another area further inland.
@@bwad99 Problem with that...if you don't find the essentials...you might die of starvation or dehydration before you make it to the next town...lol.
@@patricksmith8171 have to find a way to not then. It's a survival game.

Yeah, it's not a nice and fair way how the loot gets distributed. But you will find the good stuff in the same buildings, over and over. So a town can be done in a couple of seconds/minutes and you will have exactly the same stuff.
thank you for the video. i just started playing and said the same thing "theres nothing around" but now i know what to look for
I play on one of the “official” MI servers. A question…
1) How long do buried caches, bases, etc last? (If I bury a stash and stop playing the game, how many real-life days do I have before it disappears?)
Is this what’s happening when I see “Server resetting in 90 minutes” in red on bottom of screen?
1. They should last 40ish days IRL if untouched. Longer if it's interacted with.
2. That just means the server will temporarily go down and come back up. It wipes dead bodies and helps make the server run smoothly agaib
@@bwad99 great. Thanks for the info!
@@BrandonKargus no worries dude!
@@alexanderhamilton0 oh shit really? I just found a plow and enough materials to make a box. Damn 14 days is way too short. Was hoping for a month
You are the certified chicken serial killer of Dayz! This was a really helpful video and I look forward to catching up on your other ones as well. I'm gonna start the game up pretty soon after I get through a couple other games. Never played it but always liked the videos and wanted to try it
Day Z looks so much easier on PC then Xbox, it seems to mix and move anything on Console takes forever and confusing. Great video.
Well it is a game designed to be on PC, so I would hope so🤣 glad you found use in it! Good luck out there🤠
I know it's super slow and clunky
Nice video. Getting ready to get the game, what I see it will take a bit to understand what things are just by looking at them. That will take time and game play. Great video and thank you.
Here for it again. I can tell from first few min this gonna be an informative video. Keep it up dude
This server high/med/low pop? I feel like high pop are more fun but less loot because someone probably got it already
@@iCruiseR6 at the time it was high pop. The screen after the fact shows medium pop but that was from the next day. Hopefully you find some of it helpful and interesting!
love the video man! i only just started playing.. picking up the game fast tho with your help so cheers.. i had a funny interaction with this dude whilst waiting for my pumpkins to grow.. he yelled out dw i won't shoot and started being friendly so me being a noob i turned my back to harvest an he shot me in the shoulder so i ran into a shed quickly.. healed.. his voice turned dark and yelled drop anti biotics and thought i had no weapon on me... little did he no i was waiting behind the door with a mk pistol full mag... he opened the door swearing an i un loaded the clip killing him instantly it was so funny. im hooked on this game now and its gonna be hard to trust anyone again. 🤣🤣
LOL only in DayZ dude. GG
Helpful stuff, I have to say, inventory system on Series X is much more frustrating IMO. Looks so easy watching you.
Good info nonetheless, thank you!
Console inventory definitely sucks
I wish they would pop a cursur up in the inventory to move stuff. You should be able to at least click on it to pick it up to move. The hold button then move it around barely works half the time
Great video thanks.I learnt alot, been playing for around a week.
This helped a lot and your delivery is very clear. Thanks and best of luck.
you're very meticulous. a superb slow paced tutorial. thanks bro😊
First 20 mins and hes kitted out like Rambo... I love the tense interactions with others in Dayz, the questioning and absolute lack of trust
Always a great start on these videos
One chicken and a knive will help you eat really well
Use those bones to craft hooks, make improvised fishing rod your set
I am not having any luck surviving. Haven’t even seen another live player but I can’t make it an hour without dying to hunger. Hope this helps and thanks for taking the time to make this video
Same bro i get in full servers and can never find anybody
I know you don’t like book bags. Nor do but I when I do find a Burlap sack I always make an improvised one, 42 slot one. As it’s very sleek and not noticeable like the rest. As well it’s tan color helps with camouflage if your into that also.
If I do go with a backpack, i prefer the courier bag, but the upgraded version is cool too!
very helpful & underrated 🙏🏻
Happy to help💙
Ive been playing for almost 40 hours now and ive never seen that many guns. Maybe i need to switch to high pop
You made this look a lot easier than it actually is when your in the game I die in the first 20-30 minutes
It's just evidence that with time and experience the game gets much easier. I've looted up and survived the coast countless times at this point, so yeah its gonna seem easy to me-- but the point of video is for you to watch what I do and learn from how I loot towns. What buildings do I loot? What items do I prioritize. Etc.
I've been watching Dellor streams for bit now, he's made me want to learn how to play and your videos are a great resource thanks.
Awesome vid! Heading to the intermediate one
the first player i came across i could hear his footsteps and i knew he was looking for me so i pointed my pump shotgun towards the door and sure i got first kill in self defense 😅
You did more in 20 minutes than I've done in hours!
Forgot to mention i been surviving with this character since this past Thursday oct 20th till today sat oct 22 💪🏽 point is keep playing it gets fun, even if you have died 10 times with out getting loot keep playing, you will.
thanks my man ! this was very helpful
Trees with 4 branches spawn food.
I’m watching a ton of these vids before I play the game. I just downloaded it last night
28:30 “when your cold your temperature tends to go down a bit” lol
I always end up sick or hurt and dying! I literally play just to die and I've never seen a well!
Great intro to the game for someone who has never played it. Downloading it now! Thanks (new sub)
Super good man. Thanks for the guide. It helped lots.
