From an experienced DayZ player: I can confirm that this video is not scripted (crazy that you had to say this in your video!) 😂 Once you put in the work, playing hours for hours and especially doing research on all the things the game doesn't tell you, surviving (PVE) in DayZ is sooo easy. PVP is the challenging part. But the game will reward you with great adventures including a good atmosphere, beautiful landscapes, crazy adrenaline rushes and maybe meeting a new lifetime-friend right around the corner. And don't forget, never love your loot and don't fomo 😊

oi mate! your video has really helped me and I think it covers the main basics or fundamentals for survival - most videos or rather the uploaders of videos have mostly stated that one should avoid zombies - with the usage of izurvive map and picking my fights with zombies carefully I was almost able to make it in-land, survived a night by a campfire and I actually have managed to stay hydrated (that pump thing is burned into my mind) and fed, not even getting sick, using my common sense for the rest - that campfire I made at a forrest during a night to stay warm, after that I have went prone further from the flames and from the light being emitted, in case someone discovers it and thus I would have been able to see them, then I have moved towards a set of hunting cabins just in time to see the wind pick up and thinking, just like in real life "oh it is about to start raining" and hid inside the cabins just in time - survived for 3 hours with decent loot and without even meeting anyone, killing only 25 zombies with a melee weapon - so thank you for finally a proper fundamental start of my absolute, absolute noob DayZ adventure!
Great video and the commentary is not overwhelming. Pleasant to adventure with you along your journey. Highly recommended. I am new to Dayz on ps5 with just over 200 hrs. Very informative! Nice work keep them coming.
Thank you, seriously, other guide videos may show you things such as how to do certain things but you show how the game goes, how the game actually is, with raw, uncut footage which is a thousand times more helpful than some extremely scripted guide.
For a stealth kill, you must slow crouch walk up to the Z from behind. Also, I always keep a stash of bullets that I don't need on me to deal with infected. .22 are great because you can keep a ton of them in one slot. If there are a lot of Zs in my path I'll simply throw one as a distraction.
I’ve just started my first adventure in DayZ with a friend. This is such a great introduction and I feel much less afraid of the eventual respawn loop, thank you!
Amazing, so informative. I have been watching people play DayZ for years on UA-cam but have never played myself lol. Playing is very different from watching and I had zero clue how to even craft until I watched this video. The fact this was all one edit and you just did thius on the fly is amazing as well! Just subscribed because of this video.
A couple more tips to add: 6 rags combined with 6 rags = 1 rope 1 long stick + rope = fishing rod 1 unit of bones (from animals or player corpses) + knife = bone fishhook Dig for worms, then add to your bone fish hook to make fishing bait, add the bait to your fishing rod, then cast over a body of water to fish. Clean fish with knife then add the fish pieces to a sharpened long stick to get ready to roast over a campfire/portable gas stove. All you need to get started with fishing are bones, a knife, and some rags. If you have ammo that you don't mind wasting on zombies and are being chased by a horde, climb on top of a car/pallet/cement block and stand in the middle of whatever you climbed on. Zombies don't climb so you can then take your time headshotting them. Water in the water bottles can be unsafe to drink, but not always. When in doubt use chlorine tablets or drink from a well. Do not eat long pig/people meat because you'll get Kuru which will eventually make you laugh uncontrollably, thereby giving away your position to zombies/other players. Other players are not your friends, but not everyone is out to kill you and steal your bones. If you don't have gloves, wash your hands before you eat or risk disease. Rags can be crafted into various improvised clothing, so for example if you can't find gloves, you could make some from rags. Lockpicks cannot be repaired, so if you're gonna settle down, make sure you get that combo lock gate up before your lockpick breaks. One more thing I was surprised wasn't in the video was the hand drill. Want a campfire, but have no matches? No lighter?, no road flare? Equip a knife, cut some bark off a tree, and grab a long stick. Craft short sticks from the long stick, then combine bark and stick to make a hand drill kit. Don't try to light a campfire outside when it's raining, because it won't light, and even if it did, it would go out. If you decide to settle down, invest in farming. Grab some seeds and equip a shovel/hoe/pickaxe, then "choose placement" on a patch of dirt. Once your plot is down, add seeds to each of the 9 squares. Water the seeds, and eventually you'll have fresh veggies.
Hey, man, I just wanna thank you. I remember years ago when I was just a little boy. Watching Dayz onUA-cam for hours and hours in Beta. That was when it was only on the PC. I've never had pc. So I thought me and my friends would never. Ever be able to play now that I'm on adult. I seen it is for counsel. I downloaded it I couldn't wait to play it after watching countless hours of other people play it on UA-cam. When I logged in I hated it. It was so so so Difficult it's still is difficult. I haven't made it one night. But after watching this video I am extremely confident. I will be able to survive at least one day. Thank you for making a Complete complete beginner's guide for the mentally ill like myself haha.
@camcantrun well I deleted the game haha I know it's a fun game for some but after watching it hours as a kid I always imagined it being easier. It's just toooooo hard of a game for me. I starve in 45 mins. Thank you tho great vid
@@GuineaPigLover666I recommend Downloading the iZurvive maps. That way you always know where a fruit tree is and you’ll never starve. Also the buttons on console have a steep learning curve and there’s lots of tricks to make it easier. I recommend looking up a video for console buttons. Keep playing- it gets easier!
Dude, the commentary, tips, and explanations were top tier! You bring a fun energy to DayZ! I would watch your streams. Did the outro while fighting off a pack of zombies lol! Subbed. You deserve all the best man.
Out of all the guides I’ve watched on this game, this is the greatest and most knowledgeable guide yet. Now I’m confident I’ll survive longer than 30 minutes and make it further inland. 😂 THANK YOU!
I love finding stuff like this I played DayZ when it was just a mod years ago I play by myself on my own server because I want to relearn the game I remember when they were first started adding stuff to standalone an when they called it that haha great video bro thanks
I probably will when I get comfortable enough getting shot is my worst fear and even then food is the next your video was helpful though thank you play too much World War Z to even care I played for 2 hours 3 times died gave up you not using the well was wild haha
I played when this was an arma 3 mod. I downloaded it on xbox a few weeks ago. My god, I've either starved to death or wound up as zombie chow on every attempt. I love the game but was ready to say screw this. You saved me dude, I can actually play this friggin game again. Awesome content, made the video very enjoyable.
Literally the best tutorial I've seen. Bought DayZ a while ago, played 80 hours, uninstalled because I was bored and nobody played with me. Also I wasnt finding stuff. Now I am motivated to play again and this video is just it :)
Very rarely do you get a tutorial from a very experienced player, good tips and a really good teachers explaining wise but this hit all the boxes. Amazing tutorial bro
Great video, earned yourself a sub. One thing I learned was always check vicinity of well because people drop items often before they drink. Thanks for the help!
Now that I have studied the playbook l feel a lot more confident about not dying from hunger…again. Thank you for putting your time into this. Very kind of you to be so helpful :)
Thank you SO Much! I went from surviving 30 min and dying from starvation and bleeds…to surviving 5 and half hours and getting my first player kill before logging off my first go around with using all of these tips together for basic survival!
In the main screen, if you look over shoulder just slightly by turning your character and then let go in the direction of rotation, it's gonna goofily keep trying to turn around. You're welcome. Nice Video, authentic and original content. Thanks for the knowledge
Just started dayZ as a long time PC gamer, can't believe I put this off until 2024.... but I'm glad to finally be learning! Hopefully DayZ still has years more ahead, It's cool to see so many in the comments that are just starting too, even though the game has been out for so long. Thanks for the guide man.
I'm playing DayZ since 2013 with some gaps. Just having under 500 hours in it and recently I started playing after a 2 years gap. Honestly these sort of videos helps a lot specially after a lot of things has been changed in the game since last I played :) Thanks :)
Long time gamer, but I just started playing DayZ this weekend. I cannot stop playing, it is so fun. A lot to learn though, and this video helped a lot. For example, I learned that I do not NEED 6 pieces of firewood and 10 short sticks to start a fire.
As a new player who's watched a few tips and tricks videos for dayz, this video was incredibly helpful. I knew you could do a lot of the things in this video but I had no idea how. Thanks a lot man 👍
Haha when you said "i played this map a little to much for comfort" i felt that. When you first spawned in i thought to myself, hey he is about 5 minutes south of berizeno
Great video mate! I enjoy playing (badly) and making content on dayz and it's refreshing to see someone with their own spin on it. Keep up the good work 👏
I havnt gamed since years ago, but DayZ really got my interest, thanks for this. Its made it more than tempting to play again, and just while away the hours instead of pointless TV or Netflix. Kudos for the vid, its a great learning curve for the uninitiated
U did in 5 min what took me 3 hours tonight on my first play couldnt even figure out how to get a fire going. Then i spawned at night and frustration was at an all time high
I’m very new to the game with about 2 to 5 hours on it an my tactic is to book it at the zombies to get the first blow on em. And thank you so much for this video it helped me a lot!
Another good tip! if your stuggling to find matches you can now use your knife to carve out some bark from a tree and combine it with a stick to make a fire starting kit and you can easily ignite the fire :)
Thank you for making this video. I am not a novice to DayZ, but still have room for improvement. I do want to say, though: if you punch with your bare hands that much, you risk cutting them and contracting an infection. At the very least, you should bind them or find a stick to smack with.
Gloves are good for a number of reasons, but they will not get cuts from punching zombies. only punching objects, like walls, or objects. Also, apprecaite you my friend, thanks for checking the vids ;)
I'm a experienced player watching just bc i like to see what its like to be new again. idk if you mentioned this or not but guys, if you kill every zombie in your way or kill a lot but not have it take too much time, you can loot all those zombies and they will have all kinds of good things like food, water, knife, backpack, flashlight. also if you found yourself running low on food faster then this guy its because you are sprinting. Its important to only sprint when you need to. You will have to learn to take it slow and just jog.
I had been playing DayZ for some time now, about like 200 hours but still didn't get the whole game and surving thing, but ur vid actually saved me in some situations I was in, so really appriciate all the tips. Looking forward for you to post more DayZ content.
I played DayZ, since it was early arma mod, for years and never learned cyrilic. I basically stopped since DyZ Standalone came out. And now I learned Cyrilic for different reasons and plan to start playing again :D
I am a semi exp player on cheat servers, been working on offical now im used to dying used to getting shot in the back but wasnt uses to dying from food or lack of clean bandages. Thank you for playing a real official server most of these type videoa they get 4 drops a house got guns in 5 min and say their on official so ty o can pawn hour or two after starting but first hour or two kicks my ass on offical so ty for great video
These are some great tips! I've got 1600 hours and what I like to do is be as resourceful as possible. Take everything I find. If I change shirts I keep my old one to tear into rags that I may need. I only get rid of things if I no longer need them, find something better, OR find what I've been gathering supplies to craft.
Honestly the most important thing I learnt was how to block, any other video I’ve watched didn’t even mention it other than “take a look at your keybinds 😃” And now to watch the rest of the video and find out how to do everything else
Awesome video, I bought the game in 2014 and could never really play it because of my bad pc I later upgraded and forgot I had dayz in my library. I installed it last night and this video helped a ton tysm❤
My partner loves this game and wants to play it with me, butI have a fear of zombies because my brain associates them with anxiety. Watching this has helped me get some courage 😅👌👌
Cam - you might be "THE" Bob Ross of DayZ. The ingredients are all there; the pristine landscapes, trees, mountains, baby squirrels (kinda), and there are no mistakes, only happy accidents. Well done!
Great video, I just got DayZ 2 days ago and have learned a lot, on my own and from people like you on UA-cam. Just wish it wasn't Pvp but it's alright.
You can indefinately block zombie attacks insofar as you have stamina. If you're sprinting around trying to dodge zombies and you get cornered with no stamina you are screwed. Everything else in the video is very informative thanks for posting this. Tried to get this explained to a friend with my own words but I instead just linked him this video. Cheers
I've been teetering on buying this game for 5 months. Every time I look at a tutorial, I get super overwhelmed and it's a turn off right away getting hit with tool tips every 30 seconds in those other videos. But watching this, this is the first time I feel 100% comfortable buying this game. Thank you so so much for the video!
My fist spawn was in the middle of a huge opening surrounded by trees. I looked around for a bit, no road, or water just trees, 1 small shack, a screaming cow in the distance and some big power lines that i new had to go somewhere. I looted the house and followed the power lines for lord knows how long tell they finally lead me to a small mountain town tucked away in the middle of no where. i looked around the town and only found 2 dead zombies, a can of unknown food and a nice jacket. I started to walk out of town along a small road when i herd a really creepy laugh coming from the bushes, and then another behind me. I just about messed my self when i got jumped by 3 naked people cutting me with knifes and axes. Now i am here.
Thanks a ton. Ive probably played about 10 hours at this point and ive been so lost. With ghe info that i should be keeping my back to the sea im hoping my gaming will be much better
SO happy to hear that my friend, if you want I'd love for you to join the discord. I'm looking for BRAND NEW players that are struggling for a project I'm working on. All love your way.
Another advice is if you can’t find food, find a player and eat him you’ll be set for a while. Also don’t eat food with gloves on as it increases chances of infection. Last but not least don’t forget you can use dirty rags to heal yourself :)
I find that in regards to food utilization I call food that only fills your food meter regular food, and food that fills both your food and water meter premium food. I'll always drop regular food to make space for premium food in my inventory. You really don't need two water bottles or a bottle and a canteen if you utilize food that fills both
Just recently started playing my main struggle was finding structures that hadn’t been looted yet and fighting zombies, didn’t know you could block their hits

Thank you, seriously, other guide videos may show you things such as how to do certain things but you show how the game goes, how the game actually is, with raw, uncut footage which is a thousand times more helpful than some extremely scripted guide.
Pretty much sums up my first 500 hours of discovery! Exceptionally well rounded intro guide.
For someone who watches you run this ISH! I just learned so much on how things work in game. Great job CAM!👏👏
this has seriously been one of the most helpful and best presented tutorial ive seen yet man! thank you!!
Happy it helped my friend.
Thanks man I’ve just downloaded the game because my mates recommended me it, THIS VIDEO HAS HELPED SO MUCH :)
This video completely changed my opinion on this game with how well you explained the basics. Looking forward to playing it now!
Throwing a bullet as a distraction is amazing thank you!
I’ve just started my first adventure in DayZ with a friend. This is such a great introduction and I feel much less afraid of the eventual respawn loop, thank you!
Good luck out there. Pro tip walking on grass instead of the road also makes your footwear last longer 😂👍
A couple more tips to add:
6 rags combined with 6 rags = 1 rope
1 long stick + rope = fishing rod
1 unit of bones (from animals or player corpses) + knife = bone fishhook
Dig for worms, then add to your bone fish hook to make fishing bait, add the bait to your fishing rod, then cast over a body of water to fish.
Thanks, this should be a first thing that people should watch before playing dayz.
Happy 10 years DAYZ! Good video as always Cam 🎉
Brother, first off.... Welcome :) i hope you know you don't struggle alone. I hope you have the most fun jamming and let me know how the journey goes.
@camcantrun well I deleted the game haha I know it's a fun game for some but after watching it hours as a kid I always imagined it being easier. It's just toooooo hard of a game for me. I starve in 45 mins. Thank you tho great vid
@@GuineaPigLover666I recommend
Downloading the iZurvive maps.
This is honestly the best dayz first start video because I’ve been STRUGGLING playing this game
Hell yeah my friend, happy to hear it worked for you!
We all struggle in the beginning. This game was not created for the faint of heart or young children.
Out of all the guides I’ve watched on this game, this is the greatest and most knowledgeable guide yet. Now I’m confident I’ll survive longer than 30 minutes and make it further inland. 😂 THANK YOU!
i have played for years , but what a great video for new players, very well explained
Thank my friend! :D
I love finding stuff like this I played DayZ when it was just a mod years ago I play by myself on my own server because I want to relearn the game I remember when they were first started adding stuff to standalone an when they called it that haha great video bro thanks
Happy it helped, highly recommend finding a low pop and jamming out
I probably will when I get comfortable enough getting shot is my worst fear and even then food is the next your video was helpful though thank you play too much World War Z to even care I played for 2 hours 3 times died gave up you not using the well was wild haha
I love the in real time learning rather than quick tips this is much better than other tip videos I’ve seen
From one small channel to another, great content. Awesome thumbnail!🎉
Keep it up!
Thanks my friend
As a brand new player with various other videos watched, this video has been my favorite. Thanks man
I played when this was an arma 3 mod.
So happy it's helping you my friend!
Bro I love this. Barely started getting into the game again and this was a whole sleuth of knowledge I didn’t have. lol
ahhh the memories this is the game that started it all.
10000% care about you thanks for the tip!
I've been playing this for 5 years but I'm still picking up tips. Thanks
Now that I have studied the playbook l feel a lot more confident about not dying from hunger…again. Thank you for putting your time into this. Very kind of you to be so helpful :)
Man I've got about 50 hours so far and I just watched this whole video because you are so entertaining! Awesome.
Thanks Zach, happy you enjoyed it! :)
Watched this video so I could play DayZ with my husband and it helped a lot! And I had no prior knowledge of DayZ coming into this.
Thanks a lot man 👍
yea game does nothing to explain the controls or anything else.
Lesson 1; dont trust anyone
True. And i always would love to be friendly but ik ill get shot at as soon as i try to say hi
U did in 5 min what took me 3 hours tonight on my first play couldnt even figure out how to get a fire going. Then i spawned at night and frustration was at an all time high
It can be tough out there, good luck my friend!
I’m very new to the game with about 2 to 5 hours on it an my tactic is to book it at the zombies to get the first blow on em. And thank you so much for this video it helped me a lot!
Much love TNT, thanks for the view and I'm happy to hear it helped.
My son and me enjoy this game so much, we play in real life on the farm. At the end of day we compare survival tools we find.
Another good tip! if your stuggling to find matches you can now use your knife to carve out some bark from a tree and combine it with a stick to make a fire starting kit and you can easily ignite the fire :)
I learned more about this game in the first 3 minutes of this video than in my 50 hours of playing and dozens of looking up guides lmao.
Whether that was a pet or a child the way you spoke to them was extremely wholesome 🥹
Ok, thank you for correcting me! And my pleasure.@@camcantrun
I bought this game because of The Running Manz but I'm surviving longer because of Cam Cant Run. Keep up the great work
I had been playing DayZ for some time now, about like 200 hours but still didn't get the whole game and surving thing, but ur vid actually saved me in some situations I was in, so really appriciate all the tips.
Care about you my friend!
These are some great tips! I've got 1600 hours and what I like to do is be as resourceful as possible. Take everything I find. If I change shirts I keep my old one to tear into rags that I may need. I only get rid of things if I no longer need them, find something better, OR find what I've been gathering supplies to craft.
i literally just got DayZ yesterday and was very confused at first. i’ll be using these tips when i hop on again tonight
Great Tips!! as a noob in Dayz this is excellent
Thanks my friend!
Honestly the most important thing I learnt was how to block, any other video I’ve watched didn’t even mention it other than “take a look at your keybinds 😃”
And now to watch the rest of the video and find out how to do everything else
As a starter in DayZ i apreciate the effort you've made in teaching people this game, now i will spend 10k hours in this game hehe
ONWARD CONQUERING ANXIETY
Cam - you might be "THE" Bob Ross of DayZ. The ingredients are all there; the pristine landscapes, trees, mountains, baby squirrels (kinda), and there are no mistakes, only happy accidents. Well done!
Great video, I just got DayZ 2 days ago and have learned a lot, on my own and from people like you on UA-cam. Just wish it wasn't Pvp but it's alright.
I genuinely appreciate this video! Thank you, I’ve never gotten off the coast before I died so I’m glad to have a video like this to show me the ways
this is the best tut video ive ever seen, not even in regards to day z alone
You can indefinately block zombie attacks insofar as you have stamina. If you're sprinting around trying to dodge zombies and you get cornered with no stamina you are screwed. Everything else in the video is very informative thanks for posting this. Tried to get this explained to a friend with my own words but I instead just linked him this video. Cheers
This video is exactly what I was looking for. Just got into DayZ and it was a life saver haha
Can we take a moment to appreciate the thumbnail? This is great!
All love your way.
sir you made me move you from my secondary monitor to my main and i can tell you thats rare so well done excellent video !
Most informative video I've watched yet. Helps that you have such a calm demeanor as you search, lol.
Thanks for the video!!!! I downloaded the game yesterday and couldn’t survive the hunger, this video helps a lot
Same bro 😂
Another advice is if you can’t find food, find a player and eat him you’ll be set for a while. Also don’t eat food with gloves on as it increases chances of infection. Last but not least don’t forget you can use dirty rags to heal yourself :)
I love it.
I find that in regards to food utilization I call food that only fills your food meter regular food, and food that fills both your food and water meter premium food. I'll always drop regular food to make space for premium food in my inventory. You really don't need two water bottles or a bottle and a canteen if you utilize food that fills both
Where was this video when I first started! so much information and very helpful THANK YOU!
Just recently started playing my main struggle was finding structures that hadn’t been looted yet and fighting zombies, didn’t know you could block their hits
i love how calm your voice is. makes me wanna play witth u and follow you to survive lol
