The most magical thing about Marko and Floor working together was their ability to support each other perfectly as necessary for each song, regardless of who is lead and who is backing. It leads to some absolutely beautiful harmonies, complementary alternating lines, and breathtaking emotional impact.
I concur. The smile on Marco's face when the rest of the band comes in is one of the most pure, content, and serene facial expressions I've ever seen on a human being. His smile is the kind of warm smile you'd see on a man who's sitting around a campfire with a guitar and a few close friends.
Marko is the only man in the world who can say, "Floor Jansen is my back-up singer." A stupefying accomplishment. But Henk Poort is an equal partner in music with her.
Not the only one, Floor briefly was the backup singer for Mark Jansen and Sander Gommans when she joined After Forever (I think they were still named Apocalypse back then). Marko is the only one not to be outshined by her though.
Eric you dont realize how much i look forward to your reactions (NIGHTWISH). i found this group 2 years ago and have been totally blown away by them and then you come along and add another dimension to my listening pleasure and for that i thank you sir.ROCK ON ERIC
It was because Marco went higher than usual and she had to adjust her voice in an instant. They know each other so well and she loves when the others does something unexpected - and so do Tuomas. Tuomas says this is live - it has to be done live if it fits the moment. And they can all handle it 👍
Another great reaction! This is one of the few songs not written by Tuomas but was written by Marko. I think he decided it wasn't a good fit for his band Tarot so he brought it to Nightwish and Tuomas loved it. Floor laughing at the end because Marko sang the ending vocal louder then normal and she had to adjust her harmonies on the fly. Please checkout While Your Lips are Still Red from Wembley. Another beautiful ballad with Marko. Very emotional song about innocent young love with gorgeous harmonies by Floor.
I agree with you. Everyone has an opinion, it shouldn’t matter what the next person’s is. We all matter. Your Sherpa! 😂 you must be talking about Gabriel! He is Papa Nightwish after all! I mean, that’s what I call him anyways! This is my favorite Marko (doing lead vocals) song. He surely says here with the Islander….”oh you all think I can’t sing….WATCH THIS”!!! RARRRRWWRRR! He cracks me up! I relate to this song so much it ain’t even funny. A fun fact about Marko Hietala is he first played the guitar. That’s why he plays “the beast” like that! I am adding Marko to my Floor tattoo. I was supposed to go last week. My dad passed away, so I just couldn’t go. I know one thing about Nightwish….They don’t make me forget the painful things I’m going though….THEY HELP ME GET THROUGH Whatever I’m going through. They have the abilities to ❤️🩹 HEAL OUR HEARTS and even some of our SOULS!!! If you truly let NW anyways!!!! I know you got lost in that moment bc you didn’t even hit the pause button once!!! The mood of the song….YESSS! I was waiting for it!!! IT TAKES YOU PLACES!!! NIGHTWISH CAN TELEPORT YOU TO A MAGICAL LAND!!! 😭 Nightwish is the ONLY band my dad didn’t yell at me to turn down 😭 apparently, he knew how much I love them. I miss my Dad every day….but NW will get me through it. You see, even though I have a channel here as well, I am quite the loner. I’m honestly working on that. I could just watch NW, but I really do enjoy watching reactions every morning. I haven’t watched any since last Tuesday. I just couldn’t. I’ve watched a few today. I’m glad I picked this one bc you’ve described NW so well. Tuomas IS an artist, you’re right! Marko is metal is also right!!! Yes he won the Masked singer Finland! Did you see him do Gangsta’s Paradise yet?!!! Maybe you should give it a go!!! He totally transformed his voice btw! He hid who he was PERFECTLY! He did escape metal for a few moments! It was epic! Anyways, great reaction again!!! I appreciate your opinion on this song! One of the best IMHO!!!
Thank you for taking the time to leave me such kind words! I am sorry you're dealing with weight. I lost my wife in 2015 and I always say, "I'll never get over it, but I need to get past it.", which is why I started this channel. Friends noticed I had been sort of hiding for 7 years and were encouraging me to get back on the mic. I'm still a bit "off", but I'm finding a rhythm, it just takes time and work. My issue is sort of opposite, in that I can't really listen to 80% of my music because of the connections. But I'm trying!! And I too am a bit of a loner, although I work with crowds and audiences, I often find myself sitting alone, but I'm weird! Or Nashville has worn me down after 20 years of going out every other night and being "social" for a paycheck. I have enjoyed my journey into NW and am trying my best to keep up with everyone's suggestions, but I do have a day job and 2 kids so I do them when I can. The past 14 years have been rough and recently somewhat settled, so I do plan on being more regular with these posts. Plus I literally have no idea how to run a YT channel!! DM me on SM if you have any pointers!! Thank you again for reaching out and commenting! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
"Papa Nightwish" ? come on now , interesting that those who place him in such a light are mostly newer fans who dont know any better, Gab himself is a relatively new fan who appointed himself with the help of those misguided newer fans , no reactor should be lead to believe they need to follow "one" fans NW narrative or song recommendations, or that the fan base is represented by one person ,all the fan base should have equally valid input.
Marko is a legend! It was a sad day when his resignation from Nightwish came! Nightwish then lost a good bassist, singer and guitarist. All three in one person ... BTW. Last year, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath was interviewed. He was asked whose cover version he considers the best of the Black Sabbath Dio era. He replied immediately: Marko Hietala. A little silence and he added "Marko is a good singer". So, if the godfather of the metal says so, we can believe it. If you’re making a video of Marko’s Masked Singer, I’d recommend doing the songs in chronological order. That’s when you see that despair in the panelists grow as they try to guess who’s behind the mask. It’s fun to follow, they even suspect the person has been changed behind the mask! : D Because one person can't change their music style that often!
Fun fact: John Barley Corn must die is a old English/Scottish folk song. This quote from Wikipedia sums it up well "John Barleycorn, the song's protagonist, is a personification of barley and of the alcoholic beverages made from it: beer and whisky. In the song, he suffers indignities, attacks, and death that correspond to the various stages of barley cultivation, such as reaping and malting. " Just listened to Traffics version and they did a phenomenal job in keeping to the tone and feel of the original, strongly agree everyone should check it out.
One of the best parts of this song is how it came about: Tuomas heard Marco playing the melody during some downtime and loved it. But when he asked Marco what it was, the response was "It's just something I've been working on, but it wouldn't work for [my band] Tarot", so Tuomas was like "Well we could do it with Nightwish if you'd like?" So they did; Marco finished writing the melody, Tuomas wrote the lyrics, and the rest is history.
I concur!!! If the islander touched you, this will reach right inside you. Particularly when you have lost a loved one. It serves as a warning of sorts to love your best while you have time because life is short and you never know how much time you have.
There are so many places to travel with Nightwish. Try I Want My Tears Back in Buenos Aires 2018/19 or Dead Boys Poem or my personal favourites Song of Myself at Wacken 2013 and Sahara at Tampa 2016.
I concur - but prefer "Dead Boy's Poem" from Buenos Aires 2018 first. It's an incredible performance by Floor - she blew that song into the legends with that performance.
@@martine3293 Yes, they sure know how to arrange their performaces. Here they used bluffing. That's why their live shows last repeated viewings so well.
Eric, you want to be baffled again? Try Floor and Troy on "How is the heart" acoustic. It is from the album "Human Nature" 2021. Greetings from Holland.
I concur. It tells some of the story visually, the lighthouse keeper has lost his wife, the princess in the tower and his family, the children in the fields; as far as I see it.
thank you for a great reaction, i saw the performance live with my wife to be..the weather was cold around +10°C and we were there for a long time...prebands were children of bodom and sonata arctica...but when nightwish stepped up on the sceen...warmed our minds and soul...and the fireworks in the end warmed up our cold bodies. a memory for a lifetime ☀️❤️🇫🇮
Wait until you get to "Shoemaker". A tribute to Gene Shoemaker, who is the only human with ashes on the moon. And then compare that to "Ghost River". Both ends of the scale.
I live in Tampere, Finland and that is why he spoke finnish of course. Shame I didn't live there back then in 2015 and hadn't personally found the band yet eventhough they have always been big in our home country. I loved the reaction and analysis. Great video and warm wishes from cold Finland.
It`s hard to put your finger on what they do to bring out your emotions when you listen to Nightwish??? Is it the perfomance or the way that Tuomas is composing or is it combination?? All i know is that it`s f.....g awesome and it has been for 25 years ;) Greetings from Sweden
Great reaction! I also like the fact that they have weaved a "micro drama" into the performance: it starts with Marco jokingly calling his band mates weasels for leaving him with the crowd, and it ends with his band mates coming in and backing him up. Tension - Release.
These two voices just simply stab me in the heart every time. And when Marko does that long high notes my throat just tighten. It the same when he does it on ever dream.
How can you blow someone's mind with a campfire song... Marko - Hold my beer! I love this live version - Marko just standing there center stage with nothing but a box and that beautiful and extremely heavy double neck Warwick/Framus named "The Beast" - it is hard to say if he seems vulnerable and exposed or immortal and god-like. Another magic moment - so amazing. I am curious to see what colours you see during this song - that differentiate from the colours you see through the other songs... great reaction as always.
@@ilkkak3065 If I recall correctly - the Idea for Nightwish came about while Tuomas and forging friends were singing around a campfire... kind of the forging embers that created this band.
There's a very good official video for the studio version with Anette. It might be a good introduction to her (although Marko still sings most of the song) A lot of "fans" disrespect her abilities, but at the time so was the perfect singer for the band, and is on two of their best albums. She just wasn't prepared for their insane (200 plus dates) touring schedule and her health, singing, and probably sanity, suffered.
Anette is a great singer in her own right, but she was unlucky enough to get sandwiched between one of the best and most beloved female metal voices ever and who is quite possibly the best female singer ever. Tuomas wrote some of his best compositions for her (Storytime, Song of Myself, Ghost River, 7 Days to the Wolves, to name a few). One of the reasons fans (new ones in particular) disregard Anette (and even Tarja) in favor of Floor is because she did something none of them could do before her, she unleashed Tuomas' talents so they could fly higher than ever before. When you get to songs from the new album (like "Noise," "Shoemaker," and "How's the Heart") you will get what I'm saying.
If I had to choose one single voice to listen to for the rest of eternity it would probably be Floor (or Marco).... but there's a couple of songs where I do prefer Anette's version. I just feel like it fits better. (And now to run away like the coward I am)
Gosh I love this song so much. Marko is such a good guitarist and singer. Their songs trigger always all kinds of emotions. It is a shame that Americans don't listen to European music that much and Nightwish plays for the smallest audience in the USA. Even in South and Middle America they are so famous. Time for Americans (I am generalizing) to come out of their bubble and look and hear across their border. Thank you sir for your wonderful reaction
Every new song by this group of people manages to be different AND good. Of course we all have preferences but really, the stylistic range of Nightwish is impressive.
You really should watch some nightwish documentary. Ofcourse the "please learn the setlist in 48 hours" mut also the making of endless forms most beautiful, it gives inside to how the music is made. Greetings from Finland. It makes me happy every time I see you have new nightwish reaction up! Thank you. ♥️
"Each song is an amazing piece of art, that stands on it's own". Perfect. I know how hectic the Nightwish army can infect your inbox, but another soul claimed by honestly, one of the most talented bands to ever grace this planet, is exciting.. 🤘🏼 I've said it before, to me, discovering this band is akin to me discovering Rush. Musically, as solid as can be. But the lyrics are a tad overlooked tbh and I'm glad someone who knows music knows what I'm saying.
thanks again, for the reaction and the talk after, enjoyed a lot. Nothing to add, all recommandations of Nightwish songs were already done ( just all live performances they ever did and you can find in UA-cam, plus some album versions that were never performed or recorded official, AND the "Fan-Videomaking-Contest winner" The Crow,The Dove And The Owl official fanmade animated video ! )
I´m so glad you came to react Nightwish. Your life experience is heard in your speech, that´s why I like to hear you. Nothing less nothing more. Thank you. Greets from Finland. God bless you.
Love your honesty. experience in music & radio! I know your feeling pressure to do Nightwish, from a 20 year Nightwish fan in the USA I’m just happy your discovering and enjoying your journey and get it out to your audience. So just a suggestion you said with Weak Fantasy that if you still was programming a radio station you would put Weak Fantasy on regular rotation. Just a suggestion why don’t you put a Nightwish song reaction on a certain day of the week? It’s Nightwish their catalogue is deep and lengthy and each song is a individual journey! Whatever journey you chose, I concur! Stay Safe Rock On!🙏👍
I concur, if possible. Tank The Tech (who is also in Nashville) was doing Nightwish Wednesday for a while. But, Tank was out of work at the time. I'm not sure if Eric would have the time needed to dedicate a day to one band, with him having a day job.
@@horseshoe_nc I also concur on your reply. Just don’t want him to get overwhelmed by all the requests to do a Nightwish song. I believe he has never experienced a Army that is so passionate, and patient and really are reliving thru reactors the joy and amazement of the first time we heard a Nightwish song. I’m excited that finally someone who’s been on the radio side of the music industry in the USA will be able to promote this band. I know he hasn’t experienced a band of musicians being guided by a metal Mozart who’s Albums for over 20 years each one a Masterpieces and each song & musical score so different that just about every Nightwish fan says, I can’t wait to hear these songs performed live!!! He has said that he’s trying to get them out as fast as he can I’m just trying to reassure him that it’s his experience we are just along to guide, savor & enjoy his journey!! @@horseshoe_nc as a very old Metal/rock head 20 year plus Nightwish fan I didn’t realized that my mantra for Nightwish is, “ MY FAVORITE NIGHTWISH SONG IS ALWAYS THE LAST ONE IVE LISTENED TO!” has a recurring theme. Yes Nightwish catalog is deep & so is the journey of -I concur! Rock On Stay Safe!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
What I love most about this band is they care so much for one another and willingly let the other members shine and have their moment. Just seeing Floor clapping and having a proud mother smile at the end of the song is heart warming. I remember Marko encouraging Floor during the very first song of the Wacken set. Both Marko and Emppu checking on Toumas at Wembley during the Poet song. Even letting Troy have a big moment at Wembley. The band has get harmony and it makes the music the best it can possibly be.
Troy was playing his Irish Low Whistle here. Didn't see anyone else mention it. I'll recommend Everdream from the Wacken show. Marko has a small vocal part, but it's impressive.
Just FYI, the not subbed part goes like this (more or less): Marko: if I sing the chorus, will you sing along with me? Crowd: yeees! Marko: will you? Crowd: YEEES! Marko: ok, it's a deal then. 👋🇮🇹🖖
A Finn gave it to me as this but said there are a multitude of ways to translate it, it all comes to the same though: "If I play the chorus, you will sing along? You will? OK, then we'll do it!"
I’m looking very forward to watching your reaction to their masterpieces: the poet and the pendulum and the greatest show on earth! The real incredible talent of Tuomas and the perfection of each single musician in this band will be unpacked. Stay with Nightwish, you will not be disappointed 💖hugs from Germany 🇩🇪
@@PittDaddy He is almost ready. I agree with those who insist on a reactor doing thorough research on The Poet and the Pendulum first. I don't feel that way about any other song, just that one. Greatest Show On Earth? Yeah, go for it!
Eric, I just love listening to you talk about Nightwish. I was crying with you during the song and agreed very much with your commentary afterwards too. I often say the Nightwish catalogue is the most beautiful perpetual piece of art that has ever existed. I refer often to Tuomas as the hand holding the brush, and the band being the most beautiful colours applied to the majestic work of art, which is Nightwish. Thank you so much for these reactions :)
There's nothing that can compare to Nightwish.it's organic, and a complete a work of art, like Mozart, and all classical composers.Good stuff here. Great song indeed.
This, like many other Marko moments, makes his departure truly heartbreaking. I'll be seeing nightwish in a few months in L.A. while I'm excited, I know it won't be the same.
@Arend Hoek wish him nothing but happiness! Definitely glad to see he's "out of hiding". Marko owes us nothing. Many years with countless great songs and performances. Just makes me sad that my 1st time seeing Nightwish, he won't be there. To me, he is as important as any other member of that band. While I trust Tuomas and gang to make it work, there's songs I'm sure we will never hear anyone else perform. As it should be, but still leaves a huge hole.
I’m blown away by this band which I’ve only discovered within the last few months. I feel like I’m alive again. I have downloaded five albums so far and I’m shocked that every time I try a new song I think I couldn’t POSSIBLY like it as much as what I’ve heard before. But No! EVERY. SONG. IS. BEAUTIFUL. HEARTFILLING. EMOTIONALLY ENCOMPASSING.
Hey Eric, every time a NW song touches you, I get touched as well…F**k I love these reactions!! I can’t get enough of that wonderful NW journey along with U dude!! So addictive!! Greetings from Spain !!!
For me the most amazing thing about Nightwish is... for them the song is the reason. All of the members of the band are there to support the song. They all shine and are amazing but the song is why they work hard at being amazing.
Late comment but i love your referrenses to other bands and songs. Many of them have been new to me and opened a whole new world of music for me. Thank you 🥰
This song Rock in Rio. It's Marko and Tony from Sonata Arctica. Tony gets overwhelmed with crowd singing along. Tony gets emotional. Finn's are cool that way not being afraid of showing emotion.
This is a Marco-song, which he couldn't make fit his project, so he presented it to Tuomas. Not sure, but this was one of the first songs where Troy did his flute-thing. He had also a cameo in the video. When it comes to versatility, both Troy and Marco are very valuable. It has to be said: Marco is very musically, handling both keys and drums at a high level, and has proved to be a valuable asset in the preperations to new albums.
Stories taking you out of reality and taking you oj a journey is a returning subject with nightwish by the way. My walden, live at Wembley (rather than Tampere) is a prime example. Wembley gives you a little introduction by Troy worth listening to. The documentary "48 hours to learn the setlist" has a very small moment but utterly mindblowing. Preparatory to going on stage the band goes into a huddle and Troy cites the last lines of Shelley's Prometheus unbound: To suffer woes which Hope thinks infinite; To forgive wrongs darker than death or night; To defy Power, which seems omnipotent; To love, and bear; to hope till Hope creates From it’s own wreck the thing it contemplates; Neither to change, not falter, nor repent; This, like thy glory, Titan, is to be Good, great and joyous, beautiful and free; This is alone Life, Joy, Empire, and Victory left me utterly speechless...
Marko Hietala composed The Islander. Released 2008. The official music video, like all NW official music videos, is bonkers amazing. Featuring Marco, Annette Olzon, Eppu, Jukka. Featuring Troy Donockley who was not officially a member, and the London Philharmonic. Troy plays the Uilleann Pipes, with the Bouzouki and Tin Pipes on background. Per wiki, Finish Lapland meets Salvador Dali. Sorry for your loss. Heartfelt and thoughtful.
You remain one of very few reactors I subscribe to! You should check out "I want my tears back", specifically Buenos Aires, guaranteed to make you grin ear to ear!
This is such an amazing song! This one brings tears to my eyes and I get goosebumps every stinking time. Another great reaction! One wonderful thing about Nightwish is that there is so much variety in their body of work. All are different, but they all have this unmistakable element that one immediately recognizes as Nightwish. From all I've read and watched of them, they are all genuinely kind and amazing human beings. That makes their music speak to me even more. Their harmonies are always amazing, but this one...with Floor on backing, it just immediately grabs at my soul. There are so many amazing tracks I can't wait for you to hear! I'll say it again, 7 Days To The Wolves, Yours Is An Empty Hope (these two live at Wembley), Song of Myself (Wacken 2013), Slaying The Dreamer (live in Bueinos Aires), just to name a few. One thing I might add here...I've seen many comments suggesting While Your Lips Are Still Red. That is such a beautiful song in all aspects, and another with Marco in charge. But, the subject matter might be difficult for you. It's about the loss of a love. After telling us about your wife, and what little we have discussed here in comments, that one might be rough for you. Just keep that in mind. It's such a beautiful song, but I wanted you to be aware so you could choose when you were good to react to it. You could also take a super journey and tackle The Greatest Show On Earth - live from Tampere (same show as The Islander). That one you should watch through the credits to the very end. That's one of their longest songs and it has so many little Easter eggs in it. I think you'll hear most of them. Shoemaker (the official lyric video) is another experience - with Floor going full opera in one portion of it. The band hasn't yet released any live performances from their newest album Human:||:Nature. Right now, the only lives for those songs are fan shot videos. But, all songs do have a lyric video, except for Noise. That song has a film clip for a video. All great. The lyric videos are awesome bc you can really take in what they are saying. If you want to check out a different band, and you've not heard them already, try Rule of Nines by Spiritbox. There's the official music video, or a live one take studio video. As always, I appreciate your thoughts and opinions on music! Hope you and your boys are doing more than well! G-d Bless you guys!
This song has lyrics that I think inspired the virtual venue used for the 2 Epic 1 3/4 hr ea virtual concerts at the end of May 2021 in a whimsical Virtual world containing the venue pub location called The Islanders Arms. It is a Steam Punk inspired building with a lighthouse at "the end of the world" . The airship in the world is named "The Spirit of Punk". It arrives to start the show and leaves afterward. Each concert had a slightly different set list (mix of older and new songs) based on the Human:: Nature tour that got put off from 2020 until recently in 2021/2022, due to the pandemic. Over 150,000 people from 108 countries (for the first concert) paid to attend live. I saw both of them. Truly magical, but unfortunately without Marco, and the large audience interaction, but it is nice to see them up close making their beautiful music. I concur! I would also put forth his song “The Voice of My Father”. He has a Finnish language version as well “isäni Anni” Which I think is more emotive, but Either version will do! Maybe for Father’s Day? Of course, I’ll love it any time you choose to check it out!
if you go look at Floor's channel, she talks about her first time working with Arjen on Aryeon. he just released a new album under the Star One group name. his other brain child. it was her first time being called upon to be a backup singer, and she talks about how she learned to adjust. was so cool for Marco to have this moment with the Finnish fans. you're close enough for government work, pronouncing Tampere correctly. i've heard it pronounced with and without rolling the r.
The way I see different Nightwish songs is like when I visited Louvre and saw all those wondeful paintings and was taken back by all of the individual beauty and meaning, no matter the size, the style or the time period when they were made. I cannot compare Nightwish songs, I just enjoy their unique glamour and mastery, no matter the style, lenght, singer or the time period when made. Now that you've reacted to Islander, maybe watch by yourself the actual music video. It's quite beautiful.
Great reaction Eric. Thank you for your detailed feedback, they are always top notch. My humble suggestion for you to react in the next period is one of the hidden gems from Nightwish, which is not that much popular on the reaction scene - 'Elvenjig & Elvenpath' Live in Bogota. You will love every second of it. Cheers, looking forward for your next reaction xD
You are my number 1 reactor, you just started, but i never experianced more exitment then when i see uoure reaction. Please keeop doing this, and for me do the whole NW CATALOG and also pick some Solo or earlyer FLOOR thankssss
Can't wait until you listen to Poet and The Pendulum (Wembley) AND The Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere or Wembley). Btw, you say Tampere perfectly. 💗 Besides Nightwish, you could try a Norwgian band called Leprous (e.g. Slave).
It makes me happy to see you enjoying Nightwish's music and I'm especially glad that you went with one of their ballads this time around. From all of the changes in line-up, style and inspirations this band has so much to offer. I grew up in a country where Nightwish was already considered a fairly niche taste in music. They've played in my home country one time in the biggest city in a venue of max capacity ~1100 and it didn't sell out. That's part of the reason that it really warms my heart to see more people not only discover Nightwish but also hear and understand the heart put into it. I have no Nightwish recommendation to add, instead I'll just boost another one because I trust the Nightwish community to lead you in the right direction :)
Really like your reactions, you have a warm plesant voice. I discoverd Nightwish 2 years ago and I'm still on the yourney of discovering songs. Listened also to the Tarja and Anette- songs but absolutly love Floor, I think she's my girlcrush. When she sings I get goosebumps all over the place, she make me feels things I didn't now were possible. No otter music does that to me.Tuomas compositions come to life, also thanks to the rest off the band, who are great musicians.
The Irish Army Knife!!! That was incredibly funny, damn near fell over. Great reaction again. Thank you! I agree about Gordon Lightfoot. He is a Canadian national treasure. I love "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald". Haunting is the perfect word.
The most magical thing about Marko and Floor working together was their ability to support each other perfectly as necessary for each song, regardless of who is lead and who is backing. It leads to some absolutely beautiful harmonies, complementary alternating lines, and breathtaking emotional impact.
You are so right. I love floors backing vocals. "While your lips are still Red" is also a amazing example for perfect hamonies
Absolutely! Not trying to be an ass, just a little something I noticed, it's spelled Marko. 👍 I used to do the same thing.
@@chewie2648 Yess, While you lips are still red! :D Its amazing!

Troy doesent play everything. When asked during an interwiew, what he would like to learn to play. He said Ice hockey.
Can he play a pickle? Just a pickle...
The song brings out tears, because it massages your soul.

@@yvonnekremers4354 she was also a backup singer for Star One, one of the various Arjen Lucassen projects! and toured as such.

That show was FUN to watch 😄😄😄😄
Marco simply dragged them around in the circusring, time after time 😄
Fun fact: John Barley Corn must die is a old English/Scottish folk song. This quote from Wikipedia sums it up well
"John Barleycorn, the song's protagonist, is a personification of barley and of the alcoholic beverages made from it: beer and whisky. In the song, he suffers indignities, attacks, and death that correspond to the various stages of barley cultivation, such as reaping and malting. "
Just listened to Traffics version and they did a phenomenal job in keeping to the tone and feel of the original, strongly agree everyone should check it out.
One of the best parts of this song is how it came about: Tuomas heard Marco playing the melody during some downtime and loved it. But when he asked Marco what it was, the response was "It's just something I've been working on, but it wouldn't work for [my band] Tarot", so Tuomas was like "Well we could do it with Nightwish if you'd like?"
So they did; Marco finished writing the melody, Tuomas wrote the lyrics, and the rest is history.
Next song could be: "While your lips are still red". Live of course. Marko sings it and it's also very emotional. :-)
I concur completely. While Your Lips Are Still Red would be a perfect follow-up to The Islander.
I concur!!! If the islander touched you, this will reach right inside you. Particularly when you have lost a loved one. It serves as a warning of sorts to love your best while you have time because life is short and you never know how much time you have.
I concur!!

There are so many places to travel with Nightwish. Try I Want My Tears Back in Buenos Aires 2018/19 or Dead Boys Poem or my personal favourites Song of Myself at Wacken 2013 and Sahara at Tampa 2016.
Sorry, forgot to say great to hear a mention of Steve Winwood and Traffic. Remember them from the early days of Paper Sun and Hole in My Shoe.
I concur
I concur., but I would change the order: Song of Myself, Dead Boy's Poem, I Want My Tears Back
I concur - but prefer "Dead Boy's Poem" from Buenos Aires 2018 first.
It's an incredible performance by Floor - she blew that song into the legends with that performance.
Marko with the best backround singer in the world. A dream.
Always nice to listen to your stories.
Me: "Marco who, who is your backing singer tonight?"
Marco: "Floor Jansen, who else?"
And the best part is; she's loving it!
@@martine3293 I always shed some tears, when they join with Marco.
@@pekkakarppinen1608 It's like the icing on the cake for this performance, isn't it?
@@martine3293 Yes, they sure know how to arrange their performaces. Here they used bluffing. That's why their live shows last repeated viewings so well.
This song was composer and text by Marco Hietala. Thank you Eric your very emotional respect. I cryd little when i listen this a first time ;)
Troy admitted in an interview, he can play anything, except hockey.
Everyrime when i listen Nightwish i cry… Im 50y old guy but this music is: Amen, Hallelujah ❤️
Spread the music of Nightwish, bro 😇😇😇. Peace out and be safe.
Eric, you want to be baffled again? Try Floor and Troy on "How is the heart" acoustic. It is from the album "Human Nature" 2021. Greetings from Holland.
i highly recommend checking out the music video for The Islander as well. Even if it's not a reaction, it's well worth checking out.
I concur.
It tells some of the story visually, the lighthouse keeper has lost his wife, the princess in the tower and his family, the children in the fields; as far as I see it.
Agreed!
I concur. The video to that song is a masterpiece, that adds to the music.
I concur
I concur.
thank you for a great reaction, i saw the performance live with my wife to be..the weather was cold around +10°C and we were there for a long time...prebands were children of bodom and sonata arctica...but when nightwish stepped up on the sceen...warmed our minds and soul...and the fireworks in the end warmed up our cold bodies. a memory for a lifetime ☀️❤️🇫🇮
Wait until you get to "Shoemaker". A tribute to Gene Shoemaker, who is the only human with ashes on the moon. And then compare that to "Ghost River". Both ends of the scale.
I concur with great enthusiasm.
I concur! We’re glad you have joined the Nightwish journey🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Floors smile at the very end does it for me. Great song, great reaction once again.
Nightwish - everything in service of the song.
Thanks again Eric. like your comments.🤘
Where Words Fail, Nightwish Music Speaks!
Once you hear Nightwish, you're hooked for life!
Always chills when the others come in, Floor and Marko’s harmonies are gold ❣️
I live in Tampere, Finland and that is why he spoke finnish of course. Shame I didn't live there back then in 2015 and hadn't personally found the band yet eventhough they have always been big in our home country. I loved the reaction and analysis. Great video and warm wishes from cold Finland.
You can taste the salt water and see the lighthouse listening to this.
well said
It`s hard to put your finger on what they do to bring out your emotions when you listen to Nightwish??? Is it the perfomance or the way that Tuomas is composing or is it combination?? All i know is that it`s f.....g awesome and it has been for 25 years ;) Greetings from Sweden
Marco: "Yeah. Floor Jansen is my backup vocalist. She's ok."
THAT is Metal.
Eric, in Finland we call you Erkki(the man name) love ❤
Nightwish is magic.
The man has a special soul.......🙏🇭🇲
"AHHH... these people"... "Oh, these people...". Couldn't have said it better myself. :)
Great reaction! I also like the fact that they have weaved a "micro drama" into the performance: it starts with Marco jokingly calling his band mates weasels for leaving him with the crowd, and it ends with his band mates coming in and backing him up. Tension - Release.
I love the little smirk on Marco's face when he knows the band (who quietly snuck back onto the stage behind him) is about to play.
By The way, they did harmonies to Human Nature album next to campfire.
This song is like that first cool breeze when the sun is about to set on a hot and humid day.
Thank you. ♥️
Oh, and maybe even react to them? 😍
Oh, yes! Concur! I don't watch reactions to the Nightwish documentaries, but I would definitely watch if Eric did it.
Wonderful. I concur, to document reaction too!
Troy being the Nightwish Armyknife made me chuckle 😄
"Each song is an amazing piece of art, that stands on it's own". Perfect. I know how hectic the Nightwish army can infect your inbox, but another soul claimed by honestly, one of the most talented bands to ever grace this planet, is exciting.. 🤘🏼 I've said it before, to me, discovering this band is akin to me discovering Rush. Musically, as solid as can be. But the lyrics are a tad overlooked tbh and I'm glad someone who knows music knows what I'm saying.
im very happy that you see very early (high hopes and this one ) how good marko is :) thanx to very good analyze reaction. have wonderful weekend.
First time i see this beautiful song it was the day I was inform that Marko left the band. It's been an emotional one I tell you. So wonderful 👌
thanks again, for the reaction and the talk after, enjoyed a lot.
Nothing to add, all recommandations of Nightwish songs were already done ( just all live performances they ever did and you can find in UA-cam, plus some album versions that were never performed or recorded official, AND the "Fan-Videomaking-Contest winner" The Crow,The Dove And The Owl official fanmade animated video ! )
Great Reaction and Insight as always, thank you for that !
Maybe next time the 21 Minutes long Magnum Opus "The Greatest Show on Earth" ? 🤟
I concur.
I agree.
I´m so glad you came to react Nightwish. Your life experience is heard in your speech,
that´s why I like to hear you.
Stay Safe Rock On!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@frankpuncekar5051 I totally concur with that as well. I still haven't heard every Nightwish song, the vastness of their catalog is wild.
I concur with the weekly idea. Or twice a week. Or seven.
Yes! I concur!
I concur!
Just FYI, the not subbed part goes like this (more or less):
Marko: if I sing the chorus, will you sing along with me?
Crowd: yeees!
Marko: will you?
Crowd: YEEES!
Marko: ok, it's a deal then.
👋🇮🇹🖖
A Finn gave it to me as this but said there are a multitude of ways to translate it, it all comes to the same though:
"If I play the chorus, you will sing along?
You will?
OK, then we'll do it!"
This is one of my favorites. Watch the music video for this one. It will give you an even greater appreciation
Yeah reaaaally looking forward to these 2 songs!!!!!!
I concur with this. You are ready for them. The Greatest Show on Earth from this same concert will take your breath away.
@@PittDaddy He is almost ready. I agree with those who insist on a reactor doing thorough research on The Poet and the Pendulum first. I don't feel that way about any other song, just that one. Greatest Show On Earth? Yeah, go for it!
Just YESS
I concur fully!
Gordon Lightfoot....wow...I still have my cassette of his Greatest hits! His songs always took me to another place!
One of your most beautiful description of Nightwish, Myty

There's nothing that can compare to Nightwish.it's organic, and a complete a work of art, like Mozart, and all classical composers.Good stuff here. Great song indeed.
This, like many other Marko moments, makes his departure truly heartbreaking. I'll be seeing nightwish in a few months in L.A. while I'm excited, I know it won't be the same.
Yes i feel the same. I am going to see them in Sweden and he will be missed
He is doing fine at the moment. At least he is into music again. Just take a look at this: @
@Arend Hoek wish him nothing but happiness!
Warm Welcome to the Nightwish family,
otherwise known as the Nightwish Army.
You've got a lot so far!
Nightwish Army UK popping in for a great reaction,,, MARKO the only man to have Floor as a backing singer :)
Thank you, Eric!
Preparatory to going on stage the band goes into a huddle and Troy cites the last lines of Shelley's Prometheus unbound:
To suffer woes which Hope thinks infinite;
To forgive wrongs darker than death or night;
To defy Power, which seems omnipotent;
To love, and bear; to hope till Hope creates
From it’s own wreck the thing it contemplates;
Neither to change, not falter, nor repent;
This, like thy glory, Titan, is to be
Good, great and joyous,beautiful and free;
This is alone Life, Joy, Empire, and Victory
left me utterly speechless...
As you have rightfully noticed, Nightwish is all about escapism. Tuomas actually defines himself as an escapist.

Marko vocal beast Hietala has a "colorfull" song called "Stones" It's really good.
I concur! I would also put forth his song “The Voice of My Father”. He has a Finnish language version as well “isäni Anni” Which I think is more emotive, but Either version will do! Maybe for Father’s Day? Of course, I’ll love it any time you choose to check it out!
awesome & well done as usual Eric !

"These people."
if you go look at Floor's channel, she talks about her first time working with Arjen on Aryeon. he just released a new album under the Star One group name. his other brain child. it was her first time being called upon to be a backup singer, and she talks about how she learned to adjust. was so cool for Marco to have this moment with the Finnish fans. you're close enough for government work, pronouncing Tampere correctly. i've heard it pronounced with and without rolling the r.
*MAJESTIC* comes to maind (The word to Nightwish) ;))
THANK YOU!
Thank's for bringing us with you on your journey with Nightwish! You're helping us vocalize our feelings aswell.
Much Love 💙💛💙

Can't wait until you listen to Poet and The Pendulum (Wembley) AND The Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere or Wembley). Btw, you say Tampere perfectly. 💗 Besides Nightwish, you could try a Norwgian band called Leprous (e.g. Slave).
Dead boys poem Buenos Aires 2018 is definitely worth a listen
I love this song
Gotta love Marko! But when the band joins in... Very beautiful, especially Kai!
Just a treat! :)
I dont know how you do it? But H. G. WELLS comparison is exactly what I thought about this song, I just cant put in to words. Thank you.
You pronounced Tampere amazingly well, if I have to niggle the a should not be like the one in cat but more like the a in far.
