He wrote the damn thing! All these years (since day one) he has always selflessly supported who ever was singing lead (Tarja, Annette, Floor) checking his ego at the door and serving the music and its needs. Vocally, he could lead any band of any genre but Nightwish were lucky enough to have him as a writting wingman to Tuomas or supporting vocally. He will be sorely missed by Nightwish and by us. Farewell brother Marko...may you find your Walden soon.

Even if Marco lost his voice completely I would still pay for a ticket just to see him and give him my support any day. I hope he returns healthy and strong one day.

With Floor, there is always the team spirit that counts for her. Still she and Marco did love to whip each other up to be ever more expressive and professional. Sad Marco left...

Marko front and center in the limelight, but not alone. Even if hidden on a darkened stage they have his back. Damm I love this band/family
His comfort level is AMAZING!

I had tickets for a Nightwish show in December 2020 and I was so looking forward to listening to Marcos and Floors perfect dynamic. And now I will never get the opportunity to witness them live 😢

This makes me certain that replacing Marko will be the most difficult task Nightwish have faced, ever. I am so, so sad he left the band and publicity altogether.
I think the official video was the first appearance of Troy. He was a session musician for Nightwish for more than five years before he got promoted to official member...

Yes, that made me perfectly happy :). I hope so too... I have a sense of what he is going through as I am fighting depression as well but I do feel that for someone like him and the way he is in a spotlight...it must be so much worse. I wish him best!

This song is actually written by Marko, I think Toumas wrote the lyrics but the music is all Marko.

Amazing reaction...thank you. From this I can only say: Nightwish can change singers and bassist and still be amazing. But as character, Marko can't be replaced.
Same with the drummer. Kai is a technical beast and all, but no one can ever match Jukka's energy and animation.
I have seen some concerts and performances but never have I come across someone like Marko who just grabs me the way he does... Glad you liked the video :)
I had a favorite drummer since the first time I ever saw Santana at Woodstock 1969 perform "Soul sacrifice". Nobody was able to beat that kid for me. Jukka and Kai have pushed him to third place ;)

Anette has more poppy voice, she received a lot of hate from a lot of NW fans because she couldn't hit those extreme Tarja's notes. Anette is also a good singer, some songs were just written for Tarja and her vocal range. No surprise that not everyone is able to sing them well.
And that is understandable. I found that Nightwish touches people deeply (as it does me so far). This connection makes people really loyal to the band and that which makes it special to them. They do push their talent to the brink...it is hard to match I guess ;)
There has never been a weak singer in Nightwish they just have different styles. Personally I like Floor the most, she is so versatile.

@@tthompson5707 Her studio albums are both fantastic, but live she just couldn't hit those extreme Tarja notes.
Troy was playing instruments on their recordings before he became an official member of the band. They were like "heck you've done so much and are practically a member so lets make it official".
To date, only TWO people can say that Floor Jansen is their backup singer: Marko Hietala, and Troy Doneckley.. Well, make that three: Marko, Troy, and Freya! Who do you think got Floor to cover Let it Go? :D
And that feeling of the old man standing on the dock by the ocean? two words for it: Sea Shanty. But you nailed the whole entire story surrounding this. That's what makes it both sad and beautiful at the same time. And why it sounds different can be explained musically. It's in a different key, with a faster bpm. At Tampere, the beat is slowed down, played in a different but still minor key, and sung acoustically for the first two verses, which makes it more intimate.
As far as Anette goes, She's become more of a hero as of late. She took a break from music to get her nursing degree. She's a RN now, and helping with COVID in Sweden in addition to her musical career.
It makes sense why it sounded different. I noticed the different key and the faster bpm but I am hesitant to mention these things as I am not a vocal coach or a composer and I don't want to come across as trying to mimic such a reactor.
Anette is being a different kind of bad ass in this case. Viking approves :)
Floor and her sister have sung backup on several Areyon projects as well as lead parts). Worth checking out.
Viking, love your reactions, you are doing great. This band beyond amazing, and I love that they gave this moment to Marko to shine alone, he deserves it. Running joke, Marko has a t shirt reads "Floor is my backing singer." These people are born performers and love each other. Troy was not in the band yet, but was involved. He and Floor officially joined the band together, both teary-eyed according to Floor. Tuomas and Marko asked them together, so what do you say we make this a six piece group, both teared up and said "Yes!"

Marko got you in the feelings, eh? Don't worry, he gets me every time too. Also, the song was not only written for Marko, it was written by Marko. One of those few where Tuomas had less influence on.
And to be fair, in the official video apart from Troy, nobody is playing their usual instruments. Emppu doesn't have his EV1, Jukka doesn't have his Tama, Tuomas doesn't have his Korg, and Marko how Warwick.
Yup, he sure does. There is just something about this man that makes me want to sit down with him and discuss nature, life and the cosmos. I was told that he wrote it during the premiere. Makes perfect sense to me :)

Hits so often, one that always gets me is Markos song: Voice of my father. Love that one maybe more than this one. not sure tho.

Yeah I had to stop the video at "Marko kuka?", just those two words were honestly really impressive. I wouldn't suggest learning Finnish though, learn something more useful :D ...Learning Finnish is basically only useful for shocking Finns ;)

Annette actually sounds good on the albums. She really shines in Slow Love Slow snd Rest Calm and Meadows of Heaven. Everyone has their favorite but I like them all for what they each bring. In live performances I like Floor by far.

Exactly. Each of the three women of Nightwish are great on studio productions. When it comes to live, give me Floor every time.
This seems to be a very general opinion amongst fans so far. I will check out more Anette and Tarja anyways as I do like them both. We'll see ;)

Anette did play the witch role in live Scaretale quite well. Other than that I'd usually prefer albums versions for Anette as well.
Troy has performed with Nightwish since 2007 and joined as a full-member in 2013. Floor is a great backing singer (also to herself on her cover versions). A good introduction to Anette could be some of these: "Bye Bye Beautiful", "Slow, Love, Slow" "Amaranth", "Rest Calm", "The Crow, The Owl and The Dove", "Scaretale",

Thanks Viking for your reaction. I liked that. It's in the air... goosebumps. This song makes me goosebumps every time. Marco is a great singer with amazing voice. When talking about Floor and Marco singing together, background singing or not. When I see those performances, I see them singing together, supporting each other. They sing and play as a band, creating amazing music for us to listen and see. They are just great together, all of them. Let's have more Nightwish, yes?

The thing that always impresses me about this performance is that we know how powerful Floor's voice is. She is more than capable of absolutely commanding this song, but she manages to sing so perfectly while still restraining herself and giving Marko the spotlight he more than deserves

Metal God JARKKO AHOLA is speculated to be the new NIGHTWISH singer. He published heavenly live 'Walking in the Air' - also an old NW hit, before Christmas. Some pros say he does tricks there that no one has facility to. Jarkko is known for his legendary screams but also highly regarded for his classical technique.

Troy wasn’t a full member of the band yet so he’s not seen, but he frequently is guest musician on stage and on studio albums. Also on the studio version of this song Troy Donockley was guest musician and is featured on several instruments.
I advertise to watch Anette live performing ‘Scaretale’. One of her best performances.

Hello Viking, glad to see you are back with another Nightwish reaction. This is a great song for Marko. It certainly showcases his abilities. He is a much better vocalist than many people give him credit for. He is showing his love for the dedicated fans, and the fans for him. Then of course the rest of Nightwish joins in for another wonderful song. Every one of their songs has become a favorite, they are just so GOOD. Crying, why, of course not. Why do you ask? My face always looks like this when I listen to Nightwish. Magnificent.
Troy started performing with Nightwish in 2007. He became a permanent member of the band in 2013.
So he was the hired flutes for 6 years basically :). Perfect addition to the group!
Of course Annette sounds okay, this is a studio recording. Troy recorded with them on some of the Anette albums

Oh yeah, I was there. Concert was only 250 kilometers from my home. So it was easy decision. I think this was one of the best NW concerts after Wacken 2013. Floor really elevated Nightwish songs range with her ability to sing everything Tuomas can think of. And don't be sorry about tears. There were many tears in concert too. Lol

I’ve been reading your comments over the last few minutes and just have to say that this is why I started the channel. It was a way to do something to help me in my time of depression and to connect with people that love the things I do. It turned out to be so much more… People started to recognize what I said and feel less alone in what they go through. THAT is what I love most about this. I loved that you realised the 3 minute thing, I loved that you got so emotional over it. Every reaction I've seen from you so far you were honest and.. I don't know, but that means a lot to me and I felt connected in a (weird?) way to a complete stranger because I felt understood.

True, Anette's vocals are more poppy. She still is a beast tho and brought so many musical ideas to life. Her era was powerful and Tuomas writing style evolved so much in this era. Some of his best works were first sung by Anette and people tend to forget that we would not have had all that without her.

Or some of her post-Nightwish bands/projects, such as The Dark Element (e.g. "Songs The Night Sings" (very Nightwish-y), "Not Your Monster" or "Dead To Me") and Allen/Olzon (e.g. "I'll Never Leave You" which is super powerful and epic, or "Worlds Apart").

I love this song so much... it almost sounds like a sea shanty, a little bit Irish in the harmony (Annette sounds like a combo between Sinead O'Connor and Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries in this one), and the video kinda reminds me of that part in Pirates of the Caribbean when they went to the "underworld" and were surrounded by ghosts... oh and I love Marko's voice... both live and studio version... too much awesomeness; if there are any songs that induce immediate goose bumps, those have got to be: The Islander, While your lips are still red, Phantom of the Opera and Sleeping Sun (Tarja's voice is wow).
After this song, i think "weak fantasy" will come up,, 🤟

I enjoyed both versions of the song. They are quite different but still share the same emotion. If I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be the live version. The connection with the audience and Floor's angelic backing vocals, Troy's use of the low whistle is spot on.

The Islander Rock in Rio. Marko and his fellow Northern King and lead singer of Sonata Arctica Tony Kakko. Tony like his bff Tuomas is a story teller and uses his body to tell you the story.

He looks happy when the weasels come back...:-)...This is a gem....I could listen to him for hours...and he has great Back-Up singers...:-) _although he not needs that ...If the Godfather of Metal sings this song you have to listen. What I like about it: they give him the Room he deserves...Floor is not trying to shine on that one...Supporting a Friend. .Again - A reaction well done..and yes...."blurry vision" is normal on that one...strikes me too....now that we are anyway in Tampere.....what about "Weak Fantasy"...you talked about Power...delivered there too...
Try 'Slow, Love, Slow' it's my favourite song from the same album I think (was it Dark Passion Play or Imaginaerium, I'm not sure rn) It's also a very VERY different Nightwish song, because it's got a jazzy feel and I'm kinda sad that they've never done something similar since (but that's just Tuomas chamaleoning his whole deal every time he has a new singer to work with) and that is doesn't get more reactions. I think it showcases Annette very well. And yes, her vocals are all in all more poppy. I the albums she originated a lot, but I feel like her ability to do the back catalogue wouldn't have been as strong, so I understand why a lot of people don't hold her up. But I think that every singer in Nightwish's history (including the guys) brings their own era and their own strengths, and I appreciate all of them. The Cadence of Her Last Breath and Meadows of Heaven are also two more songs Annette originated that I love a lot.
Great job brother! Love your energy and your insight! Believe it or not, the 2 albums made during the Annette era are my favorites. I haven't heard anything worthwhile live with her but I don't think the production value was as good in those shows as it was with Wacken or tampere. Cheers!

Annette is a fantastic singer, she just didn't fit most Nightwish fans expectations. Try the video for bye bye beautiful for more of Annette and Marko.
