Hello Eric Clark [The Wyldeside with Eric Clark] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. As you may notice, Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and NOT as something mandatory): "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ua-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/v-deo.html "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/v-deo.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ua-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/v-deo.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) ua-cam.com/video/lQu5QjidHWg/v-deo.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) ua-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/v-deo.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) ua-cam.com/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/v-deo.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/05eitd-EA6I/v-deo.html "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) ua-cam.com/video/OvOD6xecph4/v-deo.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) ua-cam.com/video/knqeI807ZlY/v-deo.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) ua-cam.com/video/pVPTUEW1PEM/v-deo.html "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) ua-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/v-deo.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) ua-cam.com/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/v-deo.html "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) ua-cam.com/video/FrJvKZNEh7g/v-deo.html "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) ua-cam.com/video/lTvYfLa4Wlk/v-deo.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/v-deo.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/v-deo.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) ua-cam.com/video/AN239Pbqbjo/v-deo.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) ua-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/v-deo.html And if you want to be surprised by Floor's vocals :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 ua-cam.com/video/DuwY1d-KIss/v-deo.html @Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or this version of the whole concert: ua-cam.com/video/cAwtzi7Q3Bk/v-deo.html Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) Your arrival was foretold! And you did NOT disappoint!! Thank you so much for the information and the direction. I owe you a beer or 10 my friend! I will pin this and make sure I transcribe as many of those as I can. I was told the Army would come strong and they have indeed! I will do my best to show the reverence and respect this band so rightfully deserve with my limited knowledge of them, but so far, I am blown away. I always say after all these years in the industry, I rarely pay to see someone live. I usually have a connection or a friend who can do me a "favor" or I don't go. But I would gladly slap down hard earned money straight from my son's mouth to see them live! I've been a lifelong fan of music, mostly Rock and Classical, but won't shy away from anything...well...KPop maybe...That just sounds like something that would put me on a watchlist if I searched for it. I look forward to my journey into this band and their catalog and thank you for being my Sherpa! It's a lot to unpack and I promise to be diligent in my work. My email is attached to my profile and you can always reach out on FB or Twitter if needed, and I always try to respond in a timely manner. Thank you again so much for the info and guidance! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark Thanks for the absolutely positive feedback. As you may have noticed, their ability to compose and perform at this level is the result of a quarter of a century of talent and hard work, not something that happens overnight. In the hope that you will continue to explore the Nightwish universe, be convinced that you will not go wrong, in any direction you choose from their ocean of music. Sorry I showed up so late at the party, but we're 8 hours apart. Greetings, from Romania!
I might argue that Ayreon has equally variable style but it's not clear if Ayreon is a band. It's clear that Arjen Lucassen is in the same class as Tuomas Holopainen.
@@MikkoRantalainen I think I should try to listen Arjens music more, I have heard some. But I think I will always be biased, cause Tuomas`s music and Nightwish has healed my broken soul so much. But one thing what I think is clear, I have never seen such an enthusiasm, feelings what comes trough members of Nightwish when they play live. They really are a very top of live performancers. It is just incredible.
@@reeilona I think The Day That The World Breaks Down by Ayreon is a good song to start with. Try listening it a couple of times and listen all the small details in the song. Even though Holopainen writes pretty complex music, it's still easy listening compared to Ayreon, which I guess is one reason it's so popular among those who have ever bothered to listen it in the first place.
@@MikkoRantalainen I have read your comments in many videos and I want to thank you about your knowledge. My soul and I are a huge Nightwish and Tuomas Holopainen fan and ever will be, but I really like to learn and hear about music. It is a treasure.
Tuomas' musical genius has a Floor...but no ceiling. Floor is a generational talent and a force of nature. One of the absolute best things about Nightwish is that EVERY TRACK of theirs is different but still eminently Nightwish! Subbed for your inciteful reaction and commentary, can't wait for more.
Why I read your genius line 'has Floor, but no ceiling..' , for the first time in this 1,5-2 years hobby of mine, for checking NW reactions and comments😅😅..thank u. Classy statement 👌🤘
Good to hear yet another North American discover Nightwish and The Valkyrie Queen Herself. Floor has one of the most complete approaches to music on the planet-- from background, formal training, hard work, vocal ability, taking care of herself, and then of course finding the absolute perfect match in Nightwish. I've been in music (production and performance) virtually my entire life and she just stuns me every time I hear her.
I love how people finally get to discover NW and Floor. It's great to see that people with a professional point of view appreciate all the hard work and effort that all bandmembers (including former members) put in. Recently Fil from Wings of Pegasus did an analysis on the pitch of Floors voice in GLS and he was blown away by her. m.ua-cam.com/video/3STbAFJiaEw/v-deo.html
@@littleraven28 , just heard that pitch video last night, and enjoyed sering yet another music professional fall in love with the beauty and magic that is Floor Jansen and Nightwish!
Believe me answering every request will eventually get to be an impossible task!!! Welcome to the wonderful, beautiful, blissful world of #Nightwish!!! Your cheers 🍻 to our queen didn’t go unseen 😉 I will be dead honest, don’t ever look away!! You will miss something as NW performances are like nothing I’ve seen before!!! I like this reaction bc he’s a professional! I’m a emotional reactor, so I don’t know much about the behind-the-scenes! I come to learn I have a gift, I can FEEL the music! Why don’t you look away? Bc you may miss something!! Emppu (the soul of nw) the guitar player will always play tricks! Marko (😿) the Viking with the double neck bass, has left, one year ago yesterday actually. Tuomas (metal Mozart) is one of the most gifted men on this earth, he’s behind it all (synth), Jukka (the pirate behind the drum kit) left a while back, he legit danced behind the kit! Kai stepped in, and has been here ever since! WinterSun brought NW both Kai and the new Jukka (yep there’s two!) New Jukka stepped in for Marko. Now that you’ve explained you see colors when you close your eyes, I now know why my sixth sense told me to click here today! Okay and onto the greatest singer, my personal favorite…Floor Jansen! Yep, you nailed it! She’s had opera training, and she went to the RockAcademy as well as preforming on Beste Zangers, a Dutch television show that features AMAZING, GIFTED singers!!! The guys are all Finnish, while the GODDESS is a Dutchie!!!! I hope you watch “The Greatest Show On Earth” from Tampere! It’s a doozy! Oh and please don’t do “The Poet and the Pendulum” yet 😔 IMHO I think people should learn the backstory first so they can feel the empathy and emotion behind it all. It’s hard for me to watch even today. Lol you need a cigarette 🚬 after that! I just quit a month ago! But I feel ya! Lolol and ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME SOMEONE IN RADIO MENTIONED NIGHTWISH!!! THAT ONE JUST SOLD ME!!! THANK YOU!!! Thanks for explaining the politics behind corporate radio, I been busting MY ASS trying to get MY RADIO stations to play them for over a YEAR! Sabaton too!!! Great reaction!!! I am sold!
Shame on you @Just Jen - you forgot to mention Troy from the UK Multi instrumentalist and third vocalist - more prominent now with the departure of Marko ;)
@@grabtharshammer 😔 I indeed did forget to mention Troy. Troy joined the band officially after this tour. His arsenal of instruments, and singing capabilities are absolutely like I’m sitting in a magical 🧙🏼♀️ land. I had Floor & Marko on the brain. Sorry
@@grabtharshammer thank you! I often come back to NW reactions I’ve already seen, just to help the creator with views, and see any replies I may have! Thanks for the forgiveness! Troy’s presence something special! On “I want my tears back” is one of my favorites bc it really does give us that Celtic fun vibe, and I can’t help but dance when Troy’s pipes get to rockin’!!!! And Eric hit the nail on the head, so many people there, Floor commanding their attention! No phones out! Yeah I’d give my left arm, and a kidney to go back in time to see Wacken 2013 or 2018! That settles it! I need another Nightwish Sunday!!
I am not certain that it would be better for Nightwish to have been played on radio and got a big label. Tuomas has said that he won the lottery of life twice. First, he gets to travel the world, but live in the small town in Finland he was born in. Second, Nightwish has never had a label or owner that tells them what kind of music is needed, what to change, what covers they must have, where to go, etc. They have always been independent and did it their way, for the art, not for someone else's idea of how to make money. He considers that a lottery win in life. It sure makes for music I like.
As a 57 year old American that grew up on corporate radio, I'm discovering that I got screwed out of tons of good music. Now, you have just touched the surface of this amazing women and this incredible band. Private Marshall Nightwish Army reporting for duty. Glad you enjoyed it Eric. There is so much more. This entire concert can be reacted to from the beginning, one song at a time. There are no bad songs and each one you hear is very different from the other. And each one will become your new favorite. That might sound ridiculous but we have seen it over and over again. This is a live band. This is a rarity that the live music is better than the engineered versions. Stick with live. General Gabriel should arrive to give you a road map and a history to help you on this most magical of journeys. A few of my suggestions outside of this concert venue, Yours is an empty Hope, Wembley (an answer to the online haters you mentioned). How's the heart, Planet Rock Acoustic version and I want my tears back, and Dead Boys Poem, Buenos Aires Argentina. Enjoyed your professional, educated comments and Audio/Visual presentation. Welcome to the world of Nightwish.
I agree with you and Eric, I felt really let down after I heard Who Do You Love by the Doors for the first time in my life in the late 90s. If it doesn't fit in the industry pigeon hole the music doesn't get airplay. How much great music is parked on dusty shelves or in moldy cellars? likely, we'll never know.
Great comment, Marshall. We are nearly twins in our more recent conversion to Nightwish, who are indeed, a universe unto themselves, collectively and individually. They reignited my passion for music and opened me to the European metal music scene, which is so different from the US concept of metal music. Absolutely agree that they are stupendous live, and really love Floor as their frontwoman. The vibe they emit onstage is massive: joy in performing, joy in doing so together, joy in feeling the music. Listening is my happy place, and life-changing over these past nearly 2 years.
If you want to understand this song a little better, Floor did something for her fans. She did a reaction to this song. A reaction to herself. It was the kindest thing a performer can do for her fans. I fell in love with this woman's voice, then I fell in love with this woman.
I found this band 13 months ago. Angry I hadn't heard of them before. I understood corporate radio and how screwed up it is but your explanation was golden. Thanks for that. And thanks for the marvelous reaction. Wacken 2013 was an amazing concert. 15 songs, (you just heard # 13)and every one of them are excellent. Not a bad one in the set. 74 years old, and this is the best live concert I have ever seen. Hope you react to each song because they are that good, and the way you react and see the music(colors) is as impressive as any other good reactors out there.imho Greetings from Maine, USA. I'll be following your adventure down the rabbit hole. (180)Kiss that number goodbye. This is gonna be fun!!!
Thank you so much for your comment and compliment!! I started studying music as a child and have always drifted toward classical and metal, but love all sounds! I can't sing or play an instrument, but I was told by someone a long time ago, I had an "Ear" and can pick up on things, whatever that means. I was glad to be turned on to this band and I'm sure I'll be asked to do other songs. I don't want to be doing just metal or any specific genres, so I try to spread it around. Thank you again for the time and attention! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
It's a shame that this Band wasn't played here in the United States on our airwaves. That's why Nightwish is gaining fans from the US now. Cause we have youtube & Fans promoting this band.
After reading your comment i was thinking back to 2013 and their concert at M'era Luna (just a few days after Wacken also in Germany) and how it felt to be there (i left the hospital on my own to travel there just for them) - but the reason for my comment is to point you to the Concert in Tampere and the last song "Greatest show on earth" ua-cam.com/video/45brzDJKZ3o/v-deo.html this has become my favourite and I'm curious what you think about it
@@nightmare0586 If your comment is meant for me, Tampere is special. 20K+ fans in their home country and Floors parents in the audience...EPIC! Wacken will always be my favorite though, because THAT is where I got to "know" the band.
"if you ever see this pop up in someone's karaoke, walk outside and smoke a cigarette" This is proly one of the best quotes I've ever heard about Nightwish and also Floor Jansen :D
I don’t know how my son discovered this band back in high school during the late nineties, but grateful he shared it with me. I’m 68 and always have Nightwish on my playlists❤️❤️❤️
Obviously Floor Jansen is a trained singer with 25+ years of singing experience... but she's also kind of a "freak of nature" :) She was already sensational when she was in his 20's and had no formal experience or musical training. Not only vocally was she great, but her stage presence has always been off the charts (funny thing, in some interviews she talked about how she was "shitting her pants" and was scared about screwing up the perfomance before the concerts when she joined Nightwish). Some people are BORN to do something, she was born to be a singer, performer, entertainer and a storyteller. I'm a 51 year old fart, I've been listening to music since I was a kid, listened to many great singers, but this woman is one of a kind. The way she conveys emotion in every note, every word, is unbelievable.
Tuomas (keyboards) is our modern day metal Mozart. He's genious to write and compose this kind of music ❤🤘 Tuomas said in one interview that Nightwish does not make music for radio.
Floor’s voice is a Force of Nature capable of tearing anything down. It’s like a tidal wave full of thunderstorms… Thanks for the analysis and giving Nightwish a chance in your channel
I am SO thrilled to finally have a corporate radio person discover this band. I discovered them back in 2006 and have been obsessed ever since. They blow Evanescence and other bands out of the water (although they're great in their own respects). It's not fair they never got any radio play in the US - but thanks to the internet they have become viral and their US presence is increasing exponentially. Welcome to the army my friend!
It always comes across, very clear to me, that Evanescence is what is considered the top rung of the symphonic metal ladder in America because they are the only band that American radio has allowed us to experience at this higher level . Once you dive deeper into the music, that has been developed over the years in Europe, you might discover that Evanescence falls somewhere in the middle of the scale. FM radio is dead to me in the US, only having pop, techo, rap and short fabricated little ditties sung by anyone that they can find to run their vocals through Autotune. Nightwish is from Finland and Finland embraces metal and considers it a national treasure. I believe I was born in the wrong country.
Will do! I saw that Pink Floyd tour in Atlanta and Birmingham so it should be awesome. I was directed to this particular tune for the lead singer, but will check out that song. I'm sure it's as epic! Thanks for the comment and suggestion! Cheers! Eric
You hit the nail on the head. Could you imagine if Nightwish was played on the radio in the United States? There are people who would never listen to metal that have fallen in love with this band. I personally can't stand over the air radio because they just pump out the same songs while never playing masterpieces like this.
Sorry for the rambling post, been watching your videos for well over 4 hours and am definitely getting a little bit loopy from this music/commentary high and lack of sleep, but I needed to express how much I've loved your videos and your takes. I am sorry to say I had never come across your videos before, and I am a little bit sad I never got to catch you on the radio as I was growing up (not from the US) because there's nothing better than listening to someone that has such a strong passion about a subject you yourself also love, and such a deep knowledge about said subject, while also being able to fluently, methodicaly and just down right beautifully walk you through and help you analyse and properly take in such a performance and song. I've been listening to Nightwish since 2000, hadn't kept up with the live vids since 2010, and have spent the last month losing my mind with the insane 2013-2018 (that's how far I've gotten, still a bit left to go) performances Nightwish has put out. Floor Jansen is... I honestly lack the music knowledge, language and understanding to describe how I feel about her talent and performances but it feels like she was the missing ingridient to help make the entire band shine. It's weird seeing your favourite song (for me it is Ghost Love Score) being elevated to an even higher level. Man, music is such a wonderful drug. Can't tell you how happy I am that they've been getting the recognation the fans always thought they deserved, and I can't say whether they belong to the pantheons of music as my musical knowledge is fairly limited, but god damn do I fucking love this band.... Again, thank you for the fantastic way you talk, you ooze enthusiasm and it is infectious. Absolutely love it. Can't wait to start going through your other, non Nightwish videos as well.
Floor has spoken of her nerves before this concert - an urge to run because she didn't know if she could do it. What a woman! You see none of that in her performance.
@@donepearce I think there was an escape rout planned in case the risk of failing on "the high note" was to dangerous. You can see the guitar player signaling to the drummer and then walking to the bass player on 20:54 I think that was to make them know: "Yes, we go for it". It would still be a very good performance without that high note, but with it you see almost everyone who hears it "Floor-ed". We call it Floorgasm.
Hi Eric, Nightwish Army, UK division here. Welcome to the world of Nightwish I see Gabriel has made contact. I recommend you follow his lead as you won't go wrong. In the meantime, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride, which is, Nightwish.
Seeing reactors have the "Floorgasm" with the high notes at the end never gets old. The body leaning back, the surprise in the face, and then the shaking your head in disbelief and awe. She will give you moments of utter awe in just about everything she sings. (Yes, fans will call it that) She is a generational talent vocally and the band are all geniuses.
The descriptive word for Nightwish and Floor Jansen is Versatile. You will find that every Nightwish song is different and equally as good. Floor can sing anything from Pop to Opera, has a comfortable range from D3 to E6 and can death growl down to Eb2. Floor is Dutch and attended Rock academy, Conservertoire, 1 year of Opera and also Musical Theatre. She was a vocal coach and is a self confessed vocal nerd. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl (drummer for Sabaton) and has a 4 year old daughter. She started a UA-cam channel (Floor Jansen) during lockdown where she has uploaded covers including Alone by Heart. She was also on a TV show in the Netherlands called Beste Zangers (7 singers singing each others songs) where amongst others she did versions of Phantom of the Opera (with original Dutch phantom Henk Poort) and Shallow (different and better than Lady Gaga). Nightwish and Floor and huge rabbit holes to fall into but well worth it if you do. By the way her collaborations with Ayreon, Epica and others are great as well.
Nightwish Army Germany reports for Duty: What you should do: Listen to Gabriel. He knows. Great Reaction !! I think our Queen captured another soul….:-) Welcome to the most rewarding Rabbithole of them all....called Nightwish. You have just seen the tip of the Iceberg.... Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !
Hello Eric Clark . Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army.
Now I am sitting here, having watched about 150 up to 200 reactions on this video, beeing one of the greatest fans of Nightwish and Floor and now I have to add Eric to my favorites. Man, between all that stupid and sometimes really bothering reactions without any sense for music, composing or feeling you did an outstanding job here. I am connected to your style to analyse music not only by notes and sound. I understand your sensitivity when it comes to personal experiences from the past - by the way: sorry for your loss! - that take part in the 'tone' of a song, given by a perfect actor. So I am blessed to have the oppotunity to listen to your reactions. Oh, if you find mistakes in my writing take it as a gift, I am german and shit happens :-)))
I've had the great pleasure of going to Rock in Roma, some years ago, and seeing Apocalyptica, Epica and Nightwish one after the other. It was such an amazing experience and the audience was really nice, too.
What makes her performance even more spectacular is that this is like the 13th song in the set. Pretty impressive vocal performance knowing how much she works in all of their 🎵 very nice reaction. You gave them the justice they are due.
This Wacken concert was the first time alot of Nightwish fans had seen Floor and were instantly in awe of her ! Subscribed to follow your journey with Nightwish.
The majority of the ppl there incl. myself never saw Nightwish live before. It took Floor and the boys less than half a song to win over the whole crowd.
Despite knowing the story of how Floor stepped in, never thought about how she was totally new in that role for that gargantuan crowd. Always enjoy that concert, and crowd reaction to music, now looking at it with thought of Wow, all these Nightwish fans also totally fell in love with the newbie, Floor! Mindblowing in every way.
I'm an 80 year old retired singer/songwriter/guitarist/recording artist/performer/vocal teacher and big fan of Nightwish & Floor. I'm so glad I discovered your channel, Eric. You bring a lot of what I understand and my perspective to the table as I continue to enjoy music and look for new inspiration. You now have a new fan and one that began my musical journey in the 1950's but with being raised on 1930's & '40's jazz & pop. Best wishes in with your work. Hope you have a great 2022.
Hello neighbor, Georgia boy here, Go Dawgs! My dream is that this band and this lady get the recognition in my home country they deserve. I was blown away almost 2 years ago when I heard that voice, I was in complete disbelief. I had to hear it many times after and you are correct every member of that band is completely at the top of their game. To my ears Floor is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard, she has no bottom or top, and she seamlessly goes vocally wherever she chooses. She can sing anything, to simply call her a Soprano negates her true abilities. She needs her own Floor Vocal Range. She is the greatest, most versatile voice voice I have ever heard. Tuomas Holopainen is the band's keyboardist/founder/primary songwriter/composer is a musical genius and is nicknamed The Metal Mozart. I liked and subbed, please consider doing more Nightwish, I loved your reaction.
Like all of us, who have been here a little longer, we also love the music of the band Pink Floyd, you might want to watch and listen to Nighwish’s interpretation of their “High Hope,” from 2005.
From Floor there is a lot before and alongside from Nightwish: Her first band, which was broken up by the illness of their founder: AFTER FOREVER - Energize Me (OFFICIAL VIDEO) Her second band that was destroyed by her burnout: ReVamp - Disdain (Live) Her hard rock album: NORTHWARD - While Love Died (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) The TV show Beste Zangers where she sings several songs: Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Best Zangers 2019 The show resulted in a solo show, which she is currently releasing song for song on her UA-cam channel: Floor Jansen - Mama (Live) And this place is reserved for the Sabaton song where she is not only the background singer at the request of her husband (who is the drummer) ;-)
Hello I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Nightwish army Belgium reporting in. Welcome to our world and our Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen. She is the most powerful and versatile female voice on the planet. She is a vocal coach herself, she formally studied rock academy, musical theatre and classical opera and has been performing for over 20 years. Looking forward to more reacts.
You will see a myriad of colors listening to Tuomas' compositions. He is an expert at painting an emotional and colorful soundscape as a backdrop to Nightwish music. His favorite movie soundtrack composer is Hans Zimmer as well as many others. Extreme dynamic changes add so much drama and impact to the compositions. This one is not focused on airplay. This is more of a masterpiece of musical composition. They have many other more single oriented songs which made it to radio in Europe. In the 4-5 minute length and more structured for the average listener. This song was about 75 minutes into the show and after hours and hours of opening metal bands. I have been to many festivals and it is quite a tiring experience. This song was not the style to headbang to and run around the stage. On other songs you will see much more physical energy to the performance. You talked about the business. Unfortunately, the business part of the music industry is what has ruined the possibilities for great and artistic music.
Thanks for the comments and putting in the time. I'm a lifelong classical music fan and appreciate when rock bands are capable of incorporating traditional structure and composition to modern music. That's usually lost in the "Hit Machine". I've been in Corporate Rock for three decades and my late wife was an attorney for ASCAP for many years, her law study being mainly entertainment. Like I said, I can fill many videos with my thoughts and experiences dealing with corporate radio and I've had similar convos with musicians feeling that way about the industry as a whole. Plus I live in Nashville, which is the Guts of the Music industry, so everybody knows everybody and it's all about connections and favors. It's gross. But luckily, there are artists like this who, regardless of what suit is in charge, the music is wonderful enough to break through the obstacles of promotion. Thanks again for taking the time to comment! Cheers! Eric
The opposition to the music industry and doing what they felt was right musically, in addition to their absolutely insane musical and lyrical ability, is why I have been a lifelong Rush fan. I have been listening to them since 1976 and 2112 is still my favorite album of all time. That was their make or break album and we see which way that went. 😁 Nightwish, with their complex composition and great concepts, has become my new favorite band since Rush retired and Neil Peart passed away.
@@stevek729 I first saw Rush on their 2112 tour. They are all such amazing musicians. I first heard them on the Fly by Night record. I must admit it took a little while to warm up to Geddy's voice. R.I.P. Professor. 🙏🙏🙏
@@Thorgrim247 I first saw them for the Hemispheres tour, but eventually got to see them a total of 19 times over the years including their last three tours. For the last three times I took all of my kids and their spouses. They thought it was so much fun and even wore my old Rush concert shirts. They loved getting to see dad’s favorite band and could see why I liked them so much. 😊 Now I’m hoping to see Nightwish if they are able to make it here in May.
@@Thorgrim247 i love Rush since late 70s as my then teenage Neighbour did introduce me to them as 9 yr young know nothing:) together with Mainstreamers like Queen and Saga, and ofc NW since 97 they are my absolute music Comfort Zone.
Not only has floor got an amazing vocal spectrum but her on stage presence is fantastic...her facial expressions and body movements to each song she performes shows she's really into the lyrics. Check out Floor in her other bands too...After Forever and Revamp.
They are that good, but their sound engineers are also the best in the world, and have been with them from the beginning. They use the same sound engineers in the studio as they do live.
Welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. This is one of the most epic live performances ever. Intelligent talk from you. Greetings from Finland! ⛄👍
Floor Jansen the Queen of metal ❤️is a classically trained and a professional voice coach with at least 20 years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes and different styles and languages, her previous bands After Forever, Northward and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon performances and a Dutch reality show beste zangers in 2019 and 2021, she is married to the drummer of the band Sabaton, awesome 😎
Nightwish Army UK Chapter here! I am glad you started this Nightwish Journey! They are all special in their own ways. Much appreciate your insight into music and the way you explain everything. Can't wait for more Nightwish!
Ok man, I saw his Floyd "Animals" shirt(So cool); & I heard him speak the oh so tasteful phrase wherein the man sang the praises of greatness for "Tool" & "Alice in Chains"... quite right, absolutely both groups contained some of the most complex & talented musicians(true artists) of my lifetime. Damn, does this man actually know his stuff & thus have excellent taste in music!? The potential here has just exponentially increased in my eyes, guys... LoL. Nice. Oh, and my man... You simply NEED to do yourself this favor; you simply must dive into this group's amazing repertoire as it contains some of the most moving masterpieces of tonal art that I have ever had the luck to have found for many a year now... I only wish that I had heard of, or stumbled across, them a long time ago... as I'd found them only three years ago or so now & I have never incorporated so many kick-ass tunes from any other single group's works as quickly or as enthusiastically as I have with Floor & Nightwish... in fact "Song of Myself" live at Wakken 2013 has replaced the song that was my personal favorite tune to listen to for almost two decades until this point... that being: Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar". So, yeah; this band had been so completely perfected at this point in time whith the final puzzle piece having been Floor Jansen! Hell, they make me tear up with joy from how a song will hit me just right in that moment... on like at least a monthly basis, in all honesty. It has been my most significant musical discovery from the last 20 years, no question.
Absolutely loved your insights and appreciation for Nightwish and their music. Fight hard now if you feel you didn't before- it's never too late to spread the word about this band and Floor Jansen.
Nightwish fan since 2004, and I too have chromesthesia. It's extremely immersive with all the dynamics and syncopation and modal/key changes in the music. Especially when each octave has its own gradient.
The funny thing is Nightwish is much more famous and popular than some of the other groups mentioned, just not in the US. Its interesting hearing the prospective of someone so embedded in the US rock industry. Thanks!
Subbed, liked and all that good stuff .....cant wait for this journey , just the tip of the iceberg ......stay with the live versions , Nightwish is one of those few bands who are better live and as far as FLOOR goes , you nailed it on the head about her .....shes a force of nature and the best stage presence since Freddy, Michael , Elvis ......SHE IS THE STAGE !!!
Right now they are on Nuclear Blast which is a German label for mostly European metal bands. Clearly, Nightwish is the best among them. Great review, thanks. This was a concert where everything aligned for perfection. The entire show was just as epic as this song from beginning to end.
And here I am discovering another channel reacting to Nightwish and I loooove it!!! I'm binge-watching a ton atm as a coping mechanism cause I gonna see them LIVE for the FIRST time ever this sunday😅😍
How was the consert? Erics channel is one of the greatest reaction channel there is. I love how he feels the music. And of course, nothing beats awesomeness of Nightwish
@@reeilona The concert was awesome! The venue f-ed up a bit, but the concert itself was great. Although, I couldn't reall see much. I ended up somewhere in the middle and the dudes around me were all like 6'5" 😂 But sound and the whole atmosphere was great
Hopefully general Gabriel Bardac will be here during the next days and give you a road map if you want to continue the journey into Tuomas' Nightwish.. and experience one of the most versatile vocalists Floor Jansen.
Ghost Love Score is in the Dutch Top 2000 of 2021 on place 272, even though the song is never played on mainstream radio stations. You mentioned Ann Wilson. Floor Jansen did a beautiful solo version on her own channel of the song 'Alone' from Heart. You should check that out !
Hello again Eric. Thanks for getting to my recommendation so quickly. I loved listening to what you had to say. It's obvious you know what you're talking about here. I don't have much to add. It's great to know that you understand and appreciate the genius of Tuomas' compositions and writing and the abilities of all bandmembers, including Floor. Also, so refreshing to hear someone say that 'mainstream' radio really missed out on an awesome band here. I totally agree. That's actually why I keep recommending Nightwish to anyone who might be open to their music. There's so much to take from it. I see you've already read Gabriel Bardac's comment, so you should have some insight into the history and evolution of Nightwish. You have probably also taken note of the huge list with song suggestions. You can pick any song from that list, they're all great and the links are good too (there are some slowed down videos around on YT). I'm looking forward to your next reaction. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Absolutely loved your reaction to Nightwish! You were correct we do call ourselves the Nightwish Army! We are all around the world. Our general will be here soon for background info and great prepared list for you to read and enjoy and or react to! Nightwish is very unique because no song of their sounds like any of their others yet still you could listen to it and go oh yeah that’s them. Whether it’s something dark and heavy to something light and just rocking to Celtic and almost folk metal they have a sound for pretty much anyone! Really hope to hear you react to some more of their catalogue. Specifically the rest of their big three (you have done the first leg with Ghost love score) the rest of their big epic trinity is, poet and the pendulum, and the greatest show on earth. If you do more Nightwish Live is the way to go cause you get to enjoy the crowd interaction and their true presence! Really did enjoy your insight and your enjoyment! Stay healthy my friend!
I found this band in 2006, and slowly been introducing them to other people, this is our Beethoven, Bach, Mozart of the day... Toumas is an amazing composer and Floor's voice is haunting... much better than the previous leads..
I cannot think of anyone else who's put words in musical melody like You do Eric . Thank You ..Iam now a big fan of yours 🎶🎹💪🎵🥁🎻✌🦁🎤....greatings from Holland to USA y'all 🇳🇱💎🇺🇸💥🙏🏼
Strong words. Strong and necessary. At least today we have the internet and it's easier to find out about all these bands. Imagine how many went unnoticed during the 70s, 80s or 90s.....
Tuomas (on keys) writes and scores the majority of their music. We tend to call him "The Metal Mozart". The band's music is diverse, running from Celtic/Folk undertones to Heavy Metal. You have found the Nightwish rabbit hole :) btw....they do an excellent cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. I noticed the Pink Floyd shirt, you should really check it out.
more MW please... i found this band about 5 months ago and havent gone a day without since.. and yes being american its a crime i didnt hear this band years ago...and just so u know floor does a cover of "alone" also covered by heart and she nails it.. so please lets go down the rabbit hole of NW you react i click..ROCK ON !
The problem is Europeans know a lot more about American bands and music than the other way around. Therfore many people in the US never heard of bands like Rammstein (best live band in the world by fare), Nightwish (= Metal Mozarts), Sabaton ( better than every history channel) and so on. What has no contract with the US music industry is often not played in the US.
Great reaction! I totally agree with you that Nightwish is the very best of symphonic metal. I've been with them since the beginning and I love to see them getting recognition like this. They deserve it!
Talking about Ann Wilson and Heart, you should really react to Floor Jansen's Cover of the Song Alone, you be amazed of her Performance. Greetings from Germany. 🙂 And subscribed. 😄
I'd say you're the first to suggest that track, but I'd be fibbing!! But it's on the Honey Do list!! (Honeydew is a type of melon and in the US, especially the South, the turn of phrase is Honey Do, as in "Hey Honey, I have a list of things to do" from the wife) Thank you for the Sub and Suggestion!! Cheers! Eric
Btw, Over the Hills and Far Away was my first Nightwish song as well! Like 20 years ago, maybe more... They grew so much since then, but I still love that one.
Woooaaahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best "reaction" of looonnngggg time of my favorite band and Floor Jansen in vocals; Thanks and Greetings from Argentina!!! Aaaahh... I agree about Tool and Alice In Chains
I'm 64 years old grew up going to what I thought was the greatest concerts how did I miss these people they are 👍 great tuomas holopainen is one of the greatest composer's ever all those guys can play real music and floor Jensen there is no one like her
As a Pink Floyd fan (I can see for your shirt), u should check High Hopes cover by Nightwish. And then be surprised. By the away in that concert Floor Jensen was joined with the band just a few months before)
Well that was one of the best reactions to this awsome band. Yes they should be more well known than they are especially in the USA . So kudos Sir for that and will hope that you will do more soon. Thankyou.
Great reaction from a mainstream radiostation. This band and i mean the whole band, not only FloorJansen had to be on top of the game many years ago. I have seen them live and they are sooo gooood and it wasn't even at Wacken, but in Antwerp Belgium for 8,5K+ audience. Nightwish always give 110%. You will see when you react to more of them. Greetings from the Netherlands and let other stations know Eric
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on her. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: Energize me: ua-cam.com/video/fjm4BrNAf6s/v-deo.html Monolith of Doubt: ua-cam.com/video/3TmKHkQx45U/v-deo.html Dreamflight: ua-cam.com/video/73-_F9prx4I/v-deo.html Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Here is a link to a part of a TV show (with english subtitles) of the reunion of the class of the Rock Academy with mostly backstage footage of the Tampere concert of Nightwish: ua-cam.com/video/B3NIfu0qvtg/v-deo.html 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song. Here are some examples: Misery’s no Crime: ua-cam.com/video/SNPesLFTnUg/v-deo.html Disdain: ua-cam.com/video/tIqzPXzhEuw/v-deo.html Wild card: ua-cam.com/video/GpZMFALYeGc/v-deo.html Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ua-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/v-deo.html Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see:: ua-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/v-deo.html A suggestion to a christmas song sung by Floor. Here is a link to a performance in Finland with a special guest with the best seat you could imagine: ua-cam.com/video/ym1Wc5dmUYc/v-deo.html Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on UA-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa:, ua-cam.com/video/QqdvFPBGN0c/v-deo.html and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini: ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered UA-cam in the last year. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing this at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish:. ua-cam.com/video/QW_3F186_5Q/v-deo.html Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left on her channel. Floorgasm alert! Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turned 4 years last march), a horse and pony, a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.
Greetings Eric Clark! Nightwish Army Nebraska checking in. I enjoyed watching your reaction to Nightwish and our Goddess Floor. She elicits such a strong emotional response when she sings that it has been called having a Floorgasm. She is amazing and can sing any type of music with little or no effort. Another truly epic song is The Greatest Show on Earth at Tampere, but you are not prepared for that yet. Gabriel will be by soon with a wealth of information for you. I would encourage you to follow what he gives you and you will not go wrong. This is just the beginning of a magical new journey for you.
Thank you and Gabriel has made an appearance! I'm still writing the stuff down, it's a bit overwhelming, but I'll be okay! Thank you for the comment and suggestion! Cheers from Nashville! Eric
"Hey, Hey, Hey, Heey!"(+some of her arm movement) = Proper crowd control moment. 💥🤘😜 Convieniently Ann Wilson came to your mind of Floor Jansen's vocals. Not a surprise! Since Floor has done a cover of Heart's song "Alone", with a video not too long ago. This whole concert has become one of the most legendary shows by them considering they were a headliner of the festival. Seamless dynamics between the band members, interaction with the audience (largest crowd for Floor to perform by far), good sound mixing, high production value, etc. Nice reaction män. Keep on rockin with them! Cheers from Finland 🇫🇮, the Mother Land of Nightwish 🤟😎
Floor is not just a singer but a vocal coach so she exactly knows how , what and when. And you haven't even heard Marko ( the bassist) sing..... Try Ever Dream or Phantom of the Opera with the first singer, Tarja Turunen. They have a ton of epic songs.
One reason why they need to be so precise and on point , because some of the symphonic parts and the chorus is pre-recorded so everything has to be on time during live shows. They cannot deviate too much from that. And yes.... you are right about Tchaikovsky, lol.... but Beethoven is the same.
@EricClark, absolutely enjoyed your reaction to this legendary band and lead singer. I too grew up in the classic rock era 60 70 80s, but until I discovered Nightwish with Floor Jansen with this song and this version exactly about 7 years back, my musical soul got nurtured for the very first time. They are truly unique and special as you will soon find out if you follow this musical journey, no two songs are alike but most every song is epic in its own way. Your reaction prompted me an immediate subscribe and 👍. Cheers. 🤟🤟✌️✌️🇨🇦🇨🇦
It’s so refreshing to see a reaction that a) has some knowledge of the industry and b) has a connection to the song and an affinity and appreciation of the emotion and challenges that come with a song like this. Subscribed, thank you for keeping it real. 👍
That was a great reaction. Thanx for not stopping every five seconds, and instead go in depth after the song . Floor Jansen always becomes the center of attention in these reaction, and that's understandable. She's something else. Thanx for giving cred to the musicians and the compositions. Tuomas is simply brilliant. Now, go check out "The poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. In my opinion, equally impressive.
As someone who grew up on the bands of the 60s and 70s, I am disappointed that I had never heard of Symphonic Metal until the beginning of the pandemic. Thank goodness because of reactors, I learned about Nightwish, Epica, Sabaton, Amaranthe, Jinjer, Ayreon, and so many other bands. I'm glad you found this wonderful band. Gabriel has of course given you a great list of their music. The rest of this concert was just as spectacular. Just wait until you get to the other bands I've mentioned as well. You will be even deeper into this style. To me, Nightwish and Epica are 1 and 1a. Great rock has been back, we just didn't know about it.
Hello Eric Clark [The Wyldeside with Eric Clark] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. As you may notice,
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal!
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "
Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and NOT as something mandatory):

@Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or this version of the whole concert: ua-cam.com/video/cAwtzi7Q3Bk/v-deo.html
Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. That being said, I will add here the messages left the other days by some old fans of the band.
@Fabrizio Gorla: To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. Your arrival was foretold!

Wow a real honest reaction and commentary to mainstream radio, great job! Subbed for hopefully more Nightwish 😀
You never see another band with such a variable style. It's not a rabbit hole. Nightwish is a alternate universe.
Black Hole.
Every person on that stage is on a whole other level.....musical genius
Couldn't agree more!!
Cheers!
Eric
Their like the X-men of music - way above mere mortals
Tuomas' musical genius has a Floor...but no ceiling. Floor is a generational talent and a force of nature. One of the absolute best things about Nightwish is that EVERY TRACK of theirs is different but still eminently Nightwish! Subbed for your inciteful reaction and commentary, can't wait for more.
Tuomas' musical genius has a Floor...but no ceiling. Well said!

It's one of those, "I'm shocked but not shocked but I'm shocked" performances. Glad I got pushed in that direction!
Cheers!
Eric
I love how people finally get to discover NW and Floor. It's great to see that people with a professional point of view appreciate all the hard work and effort that all bandmembers (including former members) put in.
Recently Fil from Wings of Pegasus did an analysis on the pitch of Floors voice in GLS and he was blown away by her.

@@littleraven28 , just heard that pitch video last night, and enjoyed sering yet another music professional fall in love with the beauty and magic that is Floor Jansen and Nightwish!
Why was she not so "highly regarded" , as such, in her prior gig?
I am sold!
Oh and Marko’s bday is tomorrow guys! Just a friendly reminder 🤘
Shame on you @Just Jen - you forgot to mention Troy from the UK Multi instrumentalist and third vocalist - more prominent now with the departure of Marko ;)

I concur

Yep!
Except for my favorite NW song "Master, Passion, Greed". No live version of that wonderful song.
Another Soul Snatched by the Valkyrie Goddess
I'm not fighting back.
Cheers!

If you want to understand this song a little better, Floor did something for her fans. She did a reaction to this song. A reaction to herself. It was the kindest thing a performer can do for her fans. I fell in love with this woman's voice, then I fell in love with this woman.
And here it is, Eric needs to see this: ua-cam.com/video/QW_3F186_5Q/v-deo.html
You and a couple billion other people, men and women alike have fallen for this woman.

It's a shame that this Band wasn't played here in the United States on our airwaves. That's why Nightwish is gaining fans from the US now. Cause we have youtube & Fans promoting this band.
There is that one song that they don't play at concerts. Hehe. Master, Passion, Greed is an excellent angry song.
After reading your comment i was thinking back to 2013 and their concert at M'era Luna (just a few days after Wacken also in Germany) and how it felt to be there (i left the hospital on my own to travel there just for them) - but the reason for my comment is to point you to the Concert in Tampere and the last song "Greatest show on earth"
ua-cam.com/video/45brzDJKZ3o/v-deo.html
this has become my favourite and I'm curious what you think about it
@@nightmare0586 If your comment is meant for me, Tampere is special. 20K+ fans in their home country and Floors parents in the audience...EPIC! Wacken will always be my favorite though, because THAT is where I got to "know" the band.
"if you ever see this pop up in someone's karaoke, walk outside and smoke a cigarette"
This is proly one of the best quotes I've ever heard about Nightwish and also Floor Jansen :D
Great reaction to a band from my country! Respect to you for this.
I don’t know how my son discovered this band back in high school during the late nineties, but grateful he shared it with me. I’m 68 and always have Nightwish on my playlists❤️❤️❤️
I’m just back again 1-1/2 years later, confirming for myself…
This is *still* one of the greatest reaction videos ever. By anyone.
This is one of the greatest live performances EVER!!!! Perfect in every way.
Tuomas (keyboards) is our modern day metal Mozart. He's genious to write and compose this kind of music ❤🤘 Tuomas said in one interview that Nightwish does not make music for radio.
how`s the heart?
Floor’s voice is a Force of Nature capable of tearing anything down. It’s like a tidal wave full of thunderstorms…
Thanks for the analysis and giving Nightwish a chance in your channel
Welcome to the Nightwish Army!!! YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE NOTE!!!!!!!!
I believe I was born in the wrong country.
yup.. see here Finnish commercial .. metal... ua-cam.com/video/jPZDsWwuFJ4/v-deo.html
Nightwish - Storytime got to number 1 in the Finnish singles charts. I’m glad that metal is mainstream music somewhere!!

Marco the bass player is the vocalist in High Hopes and he will blow you away ! It's before the Floor era when Tarja was the vocalist.
Yeah that would be a really good next song for you to react to. 🙂
Dave Gilmour said he liked the version very much.
You hit the nail on the head. Could you imagine if Nightwish was played on the radio in the United States? There are people who would never listen to metal that have fallen in love with this band. I personally can't stand over the air radio because they just pump out the same songs while never playing masterpieces like this.
I’m 67 years old and just discovered Nightwish a few months ago and I’m 100% with you! I really enjoyed your reaction and perspective on music.
@@jpdemer5 nightwish play against a click and backing track there is no way for fhem to end a song early
@@donepearce I think there was an escape rout planned in case the risk of failing on "the high note" was to dangerous. You can see the guitar player signaling to the drummer and then walking to the bass player on 20:54
I think that was to make them know: "Yes, we go for it".
It would still be a very good performance without that high note, but with it you see almost everyone who hears it "Floor-ed". We call it Floorgasm.

Thank you for the comment and suggestion! I'll check those out.
Cheers!

F6, Floor has risen easily many times at concerts on UA-cam to the note F6.

Nightwish really hits you in your heart.
And that's what makes this band so unique.
Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch.

very cool reaction,
greetings from the Nightwish Army from Germany :-)
Floor can you.. ? Floor: "Hold my beer.
Like all of us, who have been here a little longer, we also love the music of the band Pink Floyd, you might want to watch and listen to Nighwish’s interpretation of their “High Hope,” from 2005.

Her first band, which was broken up by the illness of their founder:
AFTER FOREVER - Energize Me (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
Her second band that was destroyed by her burnout:
ReVamp - Disdain (Live)
Her hard rock album:
NORTHWARD - While Love Died (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
The TV show Beste Zangers where she sings several songs:
Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Best Zangers 2019
The show resulted in a solo show, which she is currently releasing song for song on her UA-cam channel:
Floor Jansen - Mama (Live)
And this place is reserved for the Sabaton song where she is not only the background singer at the request of her husband (who is the drummer) ;-)
Hello
I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here.
She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja )
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
Nightwish, with their complex composition and great concepts, has become my new favorite band since Rush retired and Neil Peart passed away.

Thank God for Nightwish and your analysis Erik!

more MW please... i found this band about 5 months ago and havent gone a day without since.. and yes being american its a crime i didnt hear this band years ago...and just so u know floor does a cover of "alone" also covered by heart and she nails it.. so please lets go down the rabbit hole of NW you react i click..ROCK ON !
Thank you, and ON I will continue to ROCK!!
Cheers from Nashville!
Eric
The problem is Europeans know a lot more about American bands and music than the other way around. Therfore many people in the US never heard of bands like Rammstein (best live band in the world by fare), Nightwish (= Metal Mozarts), Sabaton ( better than every history channel) and so on. What has no contract with the US music industry is often not played in the US.
I understand, for me nightwish is the best band general and live, due to tuomas and floor
Cheers!
Eric
After all these years I still get emotional watching and listening to this. And I must have seen this like a hundred times already. Damn 💜
You Sir have a great feeling for music. Your commentary about Nightwish is the best compliment I have heard to this band.
Btw, Over the Hills and Far Away was my first Nightwish song as well! Like 20 years ago, maybe more... They grew so much since then, but I still love that one.
I just watched them play yesterday in Helsinki and it was awesome. They played this also and I sang along for the entire song😁
Enjoy your nightwish journey but please also do some of floor’s solo stuff and her on beste Zangers to see just how versatile and talented she is.
Thank you very much for the comment and compliment!
Cheers from Nashville!
Eric
I'm 64 years old grew up going to what I thought was the greatest concerts how did I miss these people they are 👍 great tuomas holopainen is one of the greatest composer's ever all those guys can play real music and floor Jensen there is no one like her
As a Pink Floyd fan (I can see for your shirt), u should check High Hopes cover by Nightwish. And then be surprised. By the away in that concert Floor Jensen was joined with the band just a few months before)
Absolutely! It's so maddening that bands like this don't get airplay here in the States. I wish we could have radio access for all music worldwide.
Here are some of my favourites:
Energize me: ua-cam.com/video/fjm4BrNAf6s/v-deo.html
Monolith of Doubt: ua-cam.com/video/3TmKHkQx45U/v-deo.html
Dreamflight: ua-cam.com/video/73-_F9prx4I/v-deo.html
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). Here is a link to a part of a TV show (with english subtitles) of the reunion of the class of the Rock Academy with mostly backstage footage of the Tampere concert of Nightwish: ua-cam.com/video/B3NIfu0qvtg/v-deo.html
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song. Here are some examples:
Misery’s no Crime: ua-cam.com/video/SNPesLFTnUg/v-deo.html
Disdain: ua-cam.com/video/tIqzPXzhEuw/v-deo.html
Wild card: ua-cam.com/video/GpZMFALYeGc/v-deo.html
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ua-cam.com/video/vhExkmWKMEU/v-deo.html
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see:: ua-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/v-deo.html
A suggestion to a christmas song sung by Floor. Here is a link to a performance in Finland with a special guest with the best seat you could imagine: ua-cam.com/video/ym1Wc5dmUYc/v-deo.html
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on UA-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa:, ua-cam.com/video/QqdvFPBGN0c/v-deo.html
and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini: ua-cam.com/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/v-deo.html
As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered UA-cam in the last year. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing this at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish:. ua-cam.com/video/QW_3F186_5Q/v-deo.html
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious.
Convieniently Ann Wilson came to your mind of Floor Jansen's vocals.
They have a ton of epic songs.
don't forget 'high hopes'
Don't forget The Islander, my favorite Marco song.
NW Army here, welcome and enjoy your ride into this amazing band. Greetings from Greece
Great reaction, Thank you and welcome to the reaction world! Hope you continue on a journey into the world of Nightwish in all of its endless forms!
