Once again a good video! And Gene Simmons ... yes, I agree with you about him! When you hear Tuomas' thoughts and see, for example, the links I have put below ... According to Tuomas, this song is inspired by the 1982 children's film "The Snowman". One of the songs in the film, Nightwish, also made a cover ("Walking In The Air") in "Tarja Era." In Tuomas' own words: : "How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity." I think that is very beautifully thought out! If you ever have time to look at these, they will give you more information about Tuomas' music. Tuomas ' thoughts on the song "Storytime", video length 3:18 minutes. When I know his music-making process, he first hears the music he composes in his head and then he tries to write it. Watching those videos, I wonder how he can hear all that! But, as we know, he's a genius ...
Totally agree. And may I add, Arjen Anthony Lucassen is another chip of that Block. And there still are tons of rockbands like Sabaton, Skillet, Disturbed with great music without me knowing who wrote it, so Rock is definitely NOT dead.
As you said, Nightwish (Tuomas) does this for us, it helps us to "make sense" of what we feel, of what we are. That's why we enjoy the moments of their lives "stolen" for us in interviews and documentaries, because it helps us to "put a face" on what we love in them. By the way, I am very happy that you have an inner desire to document yourself about the band members, you will find many "pearls". I liked your remark about how Floor "slightly widens the frame" of the composition. You don't even know how right you are - and the Wacken 2013 concert is full of such moments. For example here, when Floor sings classical / operatic over the choir, at 11:35 in your reaction :) As in Romanticide, the final double vocal slide .. And so on..
The most uncommon commentary about the genius of Tuomas is, he was writing songs for Nightwish's lead singer that was years away from joining the band.
That smile at the end of the bridge where Floor peaks and then dives back into the chorus I think says everything anyone ever needs to know about Nightwish.
I liked Tuomas's remark in Floor's Rock Academy reunion about Floor now being in Nightwish, where he said "She's at home doing this, she really is at home." 😊 BTW, were you too in need of some tissues when Floor all teared up during that reunion? Man... When she smiles, we smile. When she cries, we all cry.
Thank you, Eric, for a wonderful post! Living in Las Vegas, NV for over 30 years has exposed me to just about every level of entertainment out there. Needless to say that I'm not easily impressed. My first indirect exposure to Nightwish was viewing Floor on the show Beste Zangers when she sang "Phantom" with Mr Henk Poort. A commenter said that watching her with Nightwish was a must. Truth be told I didn't know if Nightwish was a song, concert or band. I had never heard of them. This was at the start of COVID a couple of years ago. I turned on Ghost Love Score (Wacken) and got chills and even shed a little tear. In my 70+ years I've never heard or experienced a more talented group. Floor completes this band, period! All their front women are very talented but Floor adds that intangible "something". I could "ramble" on more but the other commenters cover it all pretty well. I've "subbed" to your channel from the start and always look forward to your posts. Thanks again. Peace and long life to you.
in the documentary "48 hours to learn the setlist" there is a peculiar moment when anette fell sick and the band was under pressure to cancel the gig; There was an alternative by using the singers from kamelot in a pinch; So what do they do? Troy and Tuomas go out on the stage, and ask the fans... : what do you want? your money back or a show that will be ... challenged. The fans wanted a show and they got one. respect the fans and they love you right back. and nightwish got that down to a tee. they respect their fans, and don't take them for granted. I guess that goes back to Gene Simmons and the crucial part in the band-fan relationship he clearly missed.
This is perhaps their most "radio friendly" song, and I really think everyone and I mean EVERYONE in North America should be requesting this on their local rock radio stations. THIS version! Let's create a real buzz and build the Army so big that when Nightwish comes here to play again, they will be able to fill arenas instead of smaller venues. Great choice, Eric. Very uplifting song hopefully helps you on this sad day. All the best from Calgary.
THIS IS the track that got me into NIGHTWISH. You are only a few that mentioned MARCOS INSANE BASELINE AT THE BEGINNING. THEN FLOORS VOCALS RIDING ON EMPU'S GUITAR SOLO WAS PERFECT in my opinion. I've waited a while for you to do this and you DIDN'T DISAPPOINT. THANKS ERIC
Concur. I was in a musical rut. Kind of bored with it all. Looked at a list video of women in metal. Saw Tarja and Nightwish listed and decided to check them out. Story time came up first, and I thought…. That isn’t Tarja! I was instantly hooked and fell into the rabbit hole head first. I haven’t been bored since. My only issue is the radio…and store music. It’s all crap. Then I put on anything Nightwish and I can breathe again.
@@jcallahan_4279 I absolutely CONCUR I'm not a METAL HEAD never was. My only link to that genre was DIO from the 70s I don't know why this band grabs my attention the way it does. Like yourself I came across Nightwish 12 mnths ago and never looked back. I've got 3 albums & going to see them live at the NEC BIRMINGHAM IN NOVEMBER can't wait.
Hey Eric, you made perfect sense if they dropped a single over here it would be noise and story time. If our promoters had some balls either song would blow up over here.
Great choice again. Personal favourite is one recorded in USA in Tampa called Sahara. Or try Floor's recent songs in Amsterdam especially Face Your Demons. One thing with Storytime by Floor is that she can sing the high parts and doesn't need a recording.
Storytime and Romanticide were the two songs that truly hooked me into Nightwish, both so different from each other but both brilliant 😎🤘🔥 I know I keep suggesting this because I know you will really dig it…check out the show opener for Wembley “Shudder before the beautiful” a brilliantly constructed song (from the first Floor album), has energy, groove, build ups, pyro, drama, soaring vocals, Toumas duelling with Empuu…Marco (for a little bit) and Floor! Literally everything Nightwish….have I sold it yet? CONCUR
Unfortunately American rock and roll fails to explore in other areas when it comes to creating music. That's why I gravitated to bands like Nightwish, Kamelot and Delain all these bands that aren't well known here in the states. They give their music experiences a whole other level. I hope some day American artists learn to open their minds up to new music that don't involved to auto tune and lip synching or sex, drugs, rock and roll. Music should be an experience to enjoy.
It have to Dollar Bills for the ppl in the Fine Linnen, or it wont be played. I think its an system-like Incidient over there on your Continent, Material over Creativity in General. But Thx to the inet, the walls are crumbling:)
Excellent reaction Eric, and it is because you dive deep into the Nightwish story and background, to get the full picture of what's going on in the songs / stories - and why! (And that kind of knowledge is putting Simmons in the right perspective.) I am pretty sure that Tuomas and Marko had a dream, when they called Floor at the end of September 2012. Both Tuomas's writing and Marko and the rest of the guy's behavior and confidence changed - and so did Floor. Even the technicians in Nightwish had their own positive experiences with her - both on stage and during their work-out hours, early in the mornings, where Floor joined them, while the rest of the band were sleeping. She really got "home" all the way. Tuomas's perspectives in his writing changed, due to Troy's and Floor's influence - the genius inside him let loose (Troy introduced Tuomas to Richard Dawkins and Sagan). And as you say - they are all equal, these 6 people. But they enhance each other by using their skills and talents to add something more to each other, they all evolve to another level, when they join forces.
For a band with only 1, sort of a hit song ,atleast down here in the Netherlands. (I was made for loving you) It's an honor to be named so much in a Nightwish video............... BTW can you do some reactions on what Floor's been up to before Nightwish and find out why they wanted here so badly? A nice one , with a side of Floor you didn't see yet , would be the song Disdain from here former band Revamp (live at Graspop 2010) You will love it . Thanks for the ride
You hit the right spot again, oh my ... i so respect youre reactions, i like more reactors and there are good reactors but you are in the PRO league thankss Eric
I always smile when I watch this show because you can see on everyone's face how comfortable and happy, they all are, and you can see them at times just watching floor and smiling like a collective relief for the members especially Tuomas and Marco, it's like they all have a look of "Finally" we have the missing piece, they all just click together perfectly and I get a kick out of watching how Floor an Emppu over time have developed a really cool connection on stage and the thing they do at the end of GLS where they throw up the irons and touch fingers or a fist bump is fun to see, they genuinely have a ball with each other on stage, I want my tears back at Wacken when you look at all their faces, they're having their own little thing going on stage and you can see how much they really love playing that song. Other bands have a good time on stage, but I've never seen this level of chemistry and how well they just naturally gel together, it's really cool, and I agree with your Gene Simmons statement and I was the biggest KISS fan back in the day, but I almost can't listen to them now because in my opinion they sold out somewhere in the 80's and I started losing interest, they started becoming a parody of themselves and when they started painting up other people in Peter and Ace's makeup that was the final straw for me. NIGHTWISH is the real deal, they don't try to be anything other than themselves, and they play what they love to play, they all have their favorites, Floor loves to sing GLS because it challenges her, Jukka loved to play Last ride of the day in Fact there's a video of that "Jukka's last show" it's cool and a little sad at the same time, there's also another one where Jukka sits in for Last ride of the day in 2016 I think playing Kai's drum kit on the song and it's pretty cool to see the fans erupt when they see him and I think it was the same show where their original bass player came out and played Wishmaster, someone correct me if I'm mistaken but it looked like the same show.
@erikclark, I’ve watched hundreds of Nightwish with Floor reaction videos, I can say you’re my favorite reactor, top 3 for sure. Eric you’re a good dude, keep it up man. 🤟🤟✌️✌️🇨🇦
Gah so good. They are all smiling and enjoying themselves. What a show. I can barely contain it sitting here watching this video for probably the thousandth time....Imagine being there live. Cant wait for ya next nightwish reaction :D
😯Wow Eric...I'm so happy you picked my comment for this reaction. I am a music producer and sound engineer from Greece and I loved your channel from the first video. You keep saying humbly that you haven't great knowledge of music but your comments are always spot on and very inspiring to me. That's the reason I'm watching reaction channels from experts like you. To get inspiration. So a big THANK YOU 🙏 for that. Since the days are not so happy for you l really suggest to continue your journey with happy songs, such as, 'Alpenglow (live Wembley) or 'I want my tears back (live Buenos Aires). Stay strong music guru 💪 Sending all my positive energy to you from the other wild side of the world.
Gene says rock is dead, and apparently Machine Gun Kelly is bringing it back. Meanwhile, in the real world...we all roll our eyes in unison. Always a great reaction, Eric. And I concur on the coffee mug. I'll buy it when it's available.
I love your Nightwish journey, i'm turning 50 in a few weeks, you're a fresh breeze in the whole reaction world. Most are too young and can't really comprehend it.
One more thought ... as I mentioned you do need to see the whole Wacken 2013 show from start to finish. The crowd new of Floor most had never seen her with Nightwish, some of course had seen her with her other bands. She was not a total unknown in the metal world, especially in europe. Still the 82,000 were pumped Nightwish was the headliner with only Rage playing after them with a 30 piece orchestra and the festival had been going for two days ... Nightwish came out rocking and as seen in this video kept it going. The crowd was into it, but a tiny bit unsure to start off ... the longer it went, the more they saw the fit of Floor with the other members ... you nailed it not one of them tries to outshine the other. If you watch Floor she often steps back during key instrumentals to let that band member shine. You will see every member of the band smiling big for the other members be it Floor nailing a difficult run, Empuu with and epic yet often understated solo, and so on ... they just all feed off of each other. One last thought I hope you don't mind my asking / suggesting ... would you consider doing a brief playlist type reaction sharing 10-20 songs that you and your wife loved? I hate your pain, but I love to see you talk about her with so much love and admiration. You're a good man Eric, thanks for being you!
You know, I watched this 9 months ago and specifically searched and came back to your reviews because I learn so much each time. Thank you for what you do.
Yes!!! Nightwish is Tuomas Holopainen ..I discovered Nightwish just under a year ago and learned all about the various women singer opinions of the fans .. people saying Nightwish sucks since Tarja departed or Floor is better than Tarja and Anette and Anette is the best … In Reality Nightwish is Tuomas‘s Vision and will continue to be Nightwish regardless of who is front female singer whether it is Floor Jansen, Celine Dion, Beyoncé or even Miss Piggy ( ok maybe not Miss Piggy )
Next one with Nightwish (as a suggestion) Alpenglow, live in Mexico City (not Wembley, it's also amazing but I enjoy Floor more with the way she sings in Mexico City). It's a happy song that always makes me smile
Hi and thank you again so much for reacting this bombastic song. You told you have seen a lot of interviews and documentaries of this Band and Band members. You also said, NW is Tuomas and how he creates music, how he paints the stories with a beautiful melodic paths. I agree with that totally. If you are interested in seing, how Tuomas works and creates his mindblowing music and how all band members work close together, there is a very interesting documenary, how the Album Endless Forms Most Beautiful was done. In 2014, the band released a 20-part series ( each episode from 2 to 7 min long) of the stages making this album, showing the band's journey in this process. I think you might find it interesting. On this Album Kai Hahto replaced the band's drummer Jukka Nevalainen, who announced in August 2014 that he would step aside due to occasional severe insomnia. They both speak about it in this documentary. This was also the first Album with Floor Jansen, who joined the band in 2013. This documentary is on You Tube with name: ”Nightwish making of new Album 2015” (link below) ua-cam.com/video/FZa9fze_AFc/v-deo.html
The flourishes that Floor adds to this song is Incredible & makes this rendition EPIC: "Innocence! Innocence!!!" Her Atmospheric Vocals just magnify the Power of this piece.
Thx a lot, that we ugly Donkeys are mentioned, happens seldom:) Gene Simmons was, is and will be an selfloving selfoverestimating Prick. My Wife always brings up subtlety and Talent combined with Special ppl being restraint, when we talk about Tuomas. If i have to negativly comment anything on Him, then i can only think of is him not getting himself some Help in long Term Decisions back in the Days. On the other Hand, when you are so Hyped, often the Scope gets lost to an bit. As @Klojum mentioned, i were absolutely touched , as Floor sit there like an Teenie fighting Tears in said Rock Academy Show. Nice Recap, great Comments on the Song, can we say , the Army did- as your profound Knowledge and the obvious Talent of NW, Bias you with the Band :)? Stay Healthy NWA Bavaria North out.
"Gene, Tuomas is at a level musically that you've never seen the underbelly of" Hahaha bro that line had me rolling. We got another great reaction with a side of Gene Simmons roasting.
Well thats my night made up! Great reaction as usual. The lyrics in this song hold with me as a 66yr old music junkie who has not grown up. Music has been my life to the point of ending up Paraleagic in a Traffic accident coming back from a Who concert in 1974 and losing my childhood friend to boot. This band has rekindled my interest in newer music and also the outlook on my tastes as i was locked in a time warp it unlocked me from not looking forward. I do not want to grow up and never have even the point of getting a t-shirt printed with "I am the voice of Never-Never-Land The innocence, the dreams of every man I am the empty crib of Peter Pan" also where the hell can i find that shirt Marco is wearing lol. like many I am so onboard with the Floor vocals but the music/lyrics have been Faultless throughout the bands timescale. Tuomas Holopainen is a genious in my opinion on every level, so i Concur on your views and where's me Mug lol. Tonight I sleep, and I dream of this track, when i wake I reach for my player and will relax a while my wake up call plays. Thank your for your reacions I for one find you one of the top reactors on YT. Keep up the awesome work. Mick.
I will see them in 7 days two shows in a row...waited 2 years for this next friday and sunday. 🤘 you really learn a lot about Nightwish music if you listen to Tuomas interviews because he is behind the music. If you watch every song from Wacken you will see that every song is just as good as this...
Eric, there is a video of Floor addressing the Seattle fans at a show 3 years after her debut there with Nightwish. It explains why we love her and this band. Just real musicians with very little ego, grateful for their fans.
Thank you very much for another great reaction Eric. I´m impressed how quickly you understood the real essence of Nightwish. Tuomas Holopainen really is something else. I´m so grateful that I discovered Nightwish.. maybe one of my lifes greatest events :D
Eric, during the May 8th NYC concert Troy told a story that the band's U.S. promoter said the reason Nightwish isn't bigger in the U.S. was "Because your songs are too long and you play weird instruments in them." I took my country/western loving Mom and Sister to the show when my original guests couldn't make it. My sister was mesmerized by Floor, my Mom was captivated by Tuomas. "The expressions he makes as he plays... he is putting everything into the music." Both of them told me they would go see Nightwish again "anytime, anywhere."
Great reaction again Eric. Floor is always the center of all attention as the lead singer so it’s really nice to see you give Tuomas the credits he absolutely deserves for making all these masterpieces. Love to see you respond to some other masterpieces I really like “I wish I had an angel”, “Kiss while your lips are still red” at Wembley and “Slow love slow” all with Floor, although “Slow love slow” is probably Annette her best live performance. Your choice! 😊 Looking forward to the next Nightwish reaction! 🤟🏽
Hi Eric. Yes. A groove indeed. Tuomas is an unbelievable composer of such a broad variety of music that is mystically layered as you pointed out so well. The riff from both the bass and the guitar, the drums, and the keyboard set a platform upon which Floor roams like a lioness. She can work a crowd like Mesmer himself. Really fun reaction. Thank you for that.
Simmons is a great marketer but calling him a musician is an insult to even brand new musicians let alone real professionals like Nightwish. Simmons ego is beyond compare, if his talent had only been 1/1,000,000th of that he would actually be pretty good. You on the other hand bring a knowledge, love, and passion to your reviews. If I may I believe your wife would approve of your honoring her by continuing to share your knowledge and passion for great music. I've been in your shoes, 28 years in May, yes time heals, the memories become special, still sting at times, but what a gift being loved unconditionally is. They may be gone, but what they gave us is eternal.
Excellent reaction! I snorted cola when you said that about Scooby-Doo -- warn a girl! Gene Simmons wishes he had a quarter of the musical talent in Toumas' little finger.
The most uncommon commentary about the genius of Tuomas is, he was writing songs for Nightwish's lead singer that was years away from joining the band.
If you watch videos from the tour - particularly the Buenos Aires concert - you can see the band's joy at how the fans are reacting to their last-minute replacement singer. Keep in mind that they're playing in front of a sell-out crowd that had paid to see Anette, and here they are showing up with a substitute vocalist. They had to be anxious - but she starts out knocking every number out of the park, and soon enough the fans are chanting her name.
I was forced to chuckle at myself. When you were talking about Marko's bassline, I actually said, aloud, alone in my living room..."Yeah, he's really fantastic!" Like We were just chatting, and I could respond somehow. I dunno what that is, but you got me a couple of times responding aloud to what you were saying. Great reaction. If I Recall Correctly, Tuomas did say in an interview that he couldn't imagine Nightwish without Floor. So she's really made a home for herself in this band. Which is excellent. As for Mr. Simmons, I am a Kiss fan from way back. My 21st birthday was spent at a Kiss concert. And if you're talking American Top 40 Radio, his point may be salient, but you're right that if you look worldwide...look at bands like Nightwish or The Hu....the statement falls apart.
I think you are finally ready for Tuomas' (and Floor's) greatest masterpiece... The Poet and the Pendulum. Here's the link with lyrics: ua-cam.com/video/iEzZRMthhXU/v-deo.html , but even without lyrics you will feel this song. Please, do some research beforehand on how and why this song was written.
i know its a tough day for you Eric and hopefully doing this reaction allowed you to escape for a brief moment and feel good about what your doing because honestly you make many of us feel good. your number 1 Eric. have a good weekend
Awesome reaction Eric , Storytime is one of my top three songs by Nightwish , so uplifting and full of energy . The other two songs are G.L.S. and The Greatest Show On Earth , I am realy looking forward to see you react to the last one hopefully one fine day ! If I may use your own wurds , ladys and gentleman , boys and girls , children of all ages , so fantastic we see them all at this concert so enyoing Nightwish , I notice it every time , such a great fanbase they have, but hey that's Nightwish 👌. Have a good day while remembering your wife , I am almost sure she feels honoured and proud you listen to Storytime at this special day . Take good care and keep the Nightwish reactions coming 😊.
makes intact, right? It’s so great to hear your professional comments on Tuomas ’talent. One charming detail from the point of view of a Finnish fan, which is certainly conveyed to non-Finnish speakers too, is their loyalty to their style and roots, which has not been changed by world fame. They are home boys, speaking the East Karelian dialect of their homeland. It may sound a bit like "Hillybilly", but that's what they are!💛
Wow, thanks so much Eric! I've been waiting a long time for your reaction to this one. This is mine and my 2.5 year old granddaughter's favorite Nightwish song and video.
I completely agree with you on Genes comment and Toumas. He's unique and we should be grateful for everything he puts out for us to marvel at. Both in NW but also in Auri and his own work.
Finally! Thank you for pointing out Marco's run in the intro! As a bass player myself I know how easy it is ti overlook a fine point like that. Thanks again!
Your video caught my eye on the UA-cam window on my cell phone this morning, and it made my heart flutter. The moment I am watching your video, everything in the world looks beautiful. I think the UA-cam world is the place where the dreams in our hearts unfold endlessly. Fragmented clouds are floating in the sky of the UA-cam world, cruise ships are floating in the river, and videos of happiness that each one should enjoy are always freely displayed. The quality is very good and the video is also very well made. Of course, in my personal opinion, the video I'm watching right now is the best and it's incomparable to other channels. As soon as possible, positive energy will surely rush to your video by itself, so please make more good videos of yours in the future. Even if I don't have to rush, watching your videos makes me feel like I'm getting more and more love, so my heart is very happy. As your channel has gradually developed and you have been working hard for your dreams, I hope that you will succeed, and I will give you my heartfelt praise and support from the bottom of my heart. made me excited The moment I am watching your video, everything in the world looks beautiful.
When Imaginaerium came out, my first reaction was "so they really do have a pop singer now". After I got over Anettes voice (after listening to Nightwish with Tarja for over a decade) I got pulled in the fairy tale feel of the album and I also had to admit that Anette fit in well with the theme. I still haven't seen the movie, need to fix that at some point.
I can’t explain why, but I revisited your reaction to this song and while I was watching it tonight, I started to cry and I’m not exactly sure why I’m not trying to be funny but it was that moving………., this is exactly what Nightwish music does to me and I think you finally see it.
I'm sorry about your loss. Even if it seems so long ago, I know it's really not. ❤️ You made me laugh with your story about Gene Simmons though. And you're absolutely right. Rock may be dead to him, but to 'paraphrase' Frank Zappa: "Rock isn't dead. It just smells funny." 👃 (I know he said "jazz"). 😁
I could not agree more with you with that analysis. Nightwish is Tuomas. I've seen many reactors praising Floor Jansen...and then forgotting what Nightwish is. Floor Jansen is vocally impressive but she's not Nightwish. Just a member of the group. There have been two other singers in Noghtwish and still..Nightwish is, always been. What Tuomas does...I love the lyrics, I love the melodies, I love the stories, I love the drumming (yeah I'm Jukka fan), I love all the changes and turns in music, I love the composition, how everything is build up. When talking about Nightwish one can not focus on Floor Jansen only that many reactors do. Your Nightwish reaction videos, Wyldeside, are at my top to view 🤘🥁
Rock&Roll is not Dead , it only traveled to Japan . I can prove it with "Band Maid" And they show you that good Musik can combined with a special Style .
I truly believe this is one of the best live recordings of a rock concert of all time. The Wacken show in general and this song specifically. Yes, the song is brilliant. It's Toumas, so that's almost a given. And yes, they all fit in there in that pocket with no ego, any of them. But I think it's down to the energy between them and between them and the crowd. They look so happy, all of them. There's a second where Toumas just have a satisfied smile on his face - and it makes my heart happy. He knows that this is going pretty well - and boy is he right. And then there's that part where there's just a see of people clapping and several bodies being carried on top of that sea. This song is like everything great about live music done right condensed into one. Thanks for another great reaction.
Enjoyed every second of your Nightwish journey and always can't wait for the next one :) And I keep waiting for Ever Dream from Wacken, it will blow you away! :) Even more energy than in Storytime and finale is just remarkable. Yeah, maybe we are not in the golden age of rock any longer but it is certainly not dead, especially in the Metal genre. For me also one of the best newer rock bands is The War On Drugs, can't get enough of the last 3 albums, they have all been masterpieces, Adam is the master of melancholic atmosphere. Band is relatively new but they stir up so much nostalgia in me
Great reaction! I really enjoy how you break everything down at the end and I really enjoy hearing the perspective of someone who has spent so much time in the radio and music industry. I also appreciate your no BS approach and I fully support your comment about Gene Simmons. You can't get much more ignorant than that. I'm glad someone FINALLY noticed the beautiful fade of Marco's base into Emppu's guitar. And you also mentioned how Floor's voice has that whisper, and how all these little things meld together into a masterpiece. Tuomas truly is a genius composer, and has earned the title of the Metal Mozart.
Once again a good video!
And Gene Simmons ... yes, I agree with you about him! When you hear Tuomas' thoughts and see, for example, the links I have put below ...
According to Tuomas, this song is inspired by the 1982 children's film "The Snowman". One of the songs in the film, Nightwish, also made a cover ("Walking In The Air") in "Tarja Era."
In Tuomas' own words: : "How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity."
I think that is very beautifully thought out!

I CONCUR!!
Great comment as allways Mr Gabriel.
That smile at the end of the bridge where Floor peaks and then dives back into the chorus I think says everything anyone ever needs to know about Nightwish.
Yes. So true. It's like falling in love. I don't know how other music exists when listening to Nightwish.
I liked Tuomas's remark in Floor's Rock Academy reunion about Floor now being in Nightwish, where he said "She's at home doing this, she really is at home." 😊
BTW, were you too in need of some tissues when Floor all teared up during that reunion?

Excellent written 👍 🤘
Nightwish Wacken 2013 might be in the consideration for best show ever.
True.
I concur.
I mean Wembley
Definitely. Right there with Alchemy by Dire Straits.
Aye. Without a doubt for me.
in the documentary "48 hours to learn the setlist" there is a peculiar moment when anette fell sick and the band was under pressure to cancel the gig; There was an alternative by using the singers from kamelot in a pinch; So what do they do? Troy and Tuomas go out on the stage, and ask the fans... : what do you want? your money back or a show that will be ... challenged. The fans wanted a show and they got one. respect the fans and they love you right back. and nightwish got that down to a tee. they respect their fans, and don't take them for granted. I guess that goes back to Gene Simmons and the crucial part in the band-fan relationship he clearly missed.
There is a special video of it called "The Denver Debacle".
Props to Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz for pitching in for their friends and the fans, when most vocalists would have noped out.
Now, you getting the vibe why the Nightwish Army is ever growing and why this concert is among the very best, ever recorded.
They really need something better that a "thumbs up" button for reactions like this, Eric. Thank you!

I concur, Sahara is great. Floor can sing the Operatic parts of Storytime without "help"

Face Your Demons live in Amsterdam concurred
I concur. I would love to know the story of the Tampa performance. I would guess it was a $500 a seat Patreon show. Sahara was excellent.
Nightwish Army UK popping in for a little story :)
Storytime and Romanticide were the two songs that truly hooked me into Nightwish, both so different from each other but both brilliant 😎🤘🔥
I know I keep suggesting this because I know you will really dig it…check out the show opener for Wembley “Shudder before the beautiful” a brilliantly constructed song (from the first Floor album), has energy, groove, build ups, pyro, drama, soaring vocals, Toumas duelling with Empuu…Marco (for a little bit) and Floor!
I personally think the problem with the music industry here in the states is THE MUSIC INDUSTRY more than the bands.
It have to Dollar Bills for the ppl in the Fine Linnen, or it wont be played. I think its an system-like Incidient over there on your Continent, Material over Creativity in General. But Thx to the inet, the walls are crumbling:)
The corporate bubble of the US music industry at work, I believe Eric has already accurately expounded on this some time ago.
@@572Btriode Rick Beato has went into several rants about the US music industry as well.
Excellent reaction Eric, and it is because you dive deep into the Nightwish story and background, to get the full picture of what's going on in the songs / stories - and why!
(And that kind of knowledge is putting Simmons in the right perspective.)
I am pretty sure that Tuomas and Marko had a dream, when they called Floor at the end of September 2012.
(I was made for loving you)
It's an honor to be named so much in a Nightwish video...............
BTW can you do some reactions on what Floor's been up to before Nightwish and find out why they wanted here so badly?
A nice one , with a side of Floor you didn't see yet , would be the song Disdain from here former band Revamp (live at Graspop 2010)
You will love it .
Thanks for the ride
You hit the right spot again, oh my ... i so respect youre reactions, i like more reactors and there are good reactors but you are in the PRO league thankss Eric
Exactly. 😀
When you discover that NightWish is the greatest metalband ever.
Yeah, for Gene Simmons🤣🤣🤘🤘
Would completely agree with this statement, but I would lose the word: metal...

you have to remember that the American Music industry is VERY insular and don't even realise there is other music out in the rest of the world! 🤣
Now I want to see Miss Piggy doing GLS, I never knew I wanted that...
OMG that would be hilarious!

Hello Eric, i have to say, i really love to hear you reactions to my favourite band Nightwish, until the next one, bye!!!

Gene Simmons was, is and will be an selfloving selfoverestimating Prick.

I do not want to grow up and never have even the point of getting a t-shirt printed with "I am the voice of Never-Never-Land
The innocence, the dreams of every man I am the empty crib of Peter Pan" also where the hell can i find that shirt Marco is wearing lol. like many I am so onboard with the Floor vocals but the music/lyrics have been Faultless throughout the bands timescale. Tuomas Holopainen is a genious in my opinion on every level, so i Concur on your views and where's me Mug lol.

My brains has serious difficulties to understand how something so beautiful than Nightwish can exist... but my soul understand it all
Hi Eric.

If we didn't love so much, it wouldn't hurt so bad. I may get past it, but I'll never get over it.

To me, this is really the song where you can see the other band members thrill at how well she is singing this material.
And if you're talking American Top 40 Radio, his point may be salient, but you're right that if you look worldwide...look at bands like Nightwish or The Hu....the statement falls apart.

makes intact, right? It’s so great to hear your professional comments on Tuomas ’talent. One charming detail from the point of view of a Finnish fan, which is certainly conveyed to non-Finnish speakers too, is their loyalty to their style and roots, which has not been changed by world fame. They are home boys, speaking the East Karelian dialect of their homeland. It may sound a bit like "Hillybilly", but that's what they are!💛

The best reaction to NW I've seen from you...
Greetings from Sweden

As the lyrics say “I am the empty crib of Peter Pan”. Enjoy life, fly, and indulge the part of each of us that never has to grow up or grow old.
I'm sorry about your loss. Even if it seems so long ago, I know it's really not. ❤️
You made me laugh with your story about Gene Simmons though. And you're absolutely right. Rock may be dead to him, but to 'paraphrase' Frank Zappa: "Rock isn't dead. It just smells funny." 👃
(I know he said "jazz").
I can prove it with "Band Maid"
And they show you that good Musik can combined with a special Style .
I have a lot of respect for Paul Stanley.
Keeping that band ticking with characters as Simmons and in the past Frehley and Criss is not easy.
