    My Stoner Mind - Dream In Light
    iPhone was used for 250Hz and up (Highpass to filter out the bass, though it was still slightly clipping so any clipping sounds are from this microphone)
    Equitek E-100 was used for 200Hz and below. (Lowpass to filter out the the highs)
    Sub isn't really that great for home audio below 30Hz in a sealed box. But in a proper ported box it should play well into the low 20Hz area if tuned low.
    In a Car this sealed box sounds 10x cleaner and plays way lower.
    Sub was wired for 4 ohm for use with my Inuke3000DSP, and no that wasn't full power. (500w RMS for this sub)
    Likely around half, because below 35Hz it starts to sound a bit muddy in this small box at louder volumes in the house. For some reason in the car it sounds clean as a whistle. (Likely the trunk helping filter out the nasties)

    The Dayton Ultimax series are the most fun to watch subwoofers imo. They look great and have a long and smooth excursion. And they get hella low. I just love them.

      Before this video I never really seen it move this much. I tend to baby my subs and hardly push them. Still surprises me how much movement this sub has available.

      That's awesome! I don't think I have room to try that out. I put this sub in a bigger box with passive radiator and it gets down low under 20Hz enough pressure to hurt my ears.
      Would be fun to try my 18 Sealed in my car. My 10" surprised me with 15Hz so the 18 might blow me away with 10Hz or lower. (My 10" Sealed was only really good to 26Hz though it could give good clean pressure well under that when there's no road noise)

      This box should be about 1.5 cubic feet net after factoring in braces and woofer displacement. It's the kit from parts express.
      This should perform respectable to 30Hz. With extensions extending down to mid 20s possibly. In my car it was very usable to 26Hz. Clean down to 15Hz but not usable for music that low while driving.
      If you want more extension ported is the way to go and you really don't sacrifice too much SQ. I personally didn't notice a difference in SQ in my new passive radiator box. Only a massive gain in usable bass down to 17Hz in my new (had it for a few months now technically) box.

    How low does it go? I have a sealed 10" it hits around 25hz in my bedroom and 16hz in my main room. (Output increases more until 16hz from room gain)

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому +2

      In house not that low. Like upper 20s usable. In my car it's loud enough to drown out highway noise with the windows down at 26Hz and up. Though can shake the door quite a lot at 15Hz but isn't that usable down that low while driving.
      Though my room really really isn't good for bass for some reason. Even my Ultimax 18 tuned to 17Hz need massive DSP boost to play around 15Hz-20Hz area.
      The plan with this 10" is to move it to a bigger box and try out some Passive Radiators. 3.5 cubic feet box with 3 Dayton Audio RSS265-PR should get pretty flat bass to 20Hz with this woofer if all goes well.

    • @maincharacter2677

      Josh M That would be class man. If you do finish that build make sure you hit me up and tell me all about it. Yeah it seems that square rooms really dislike lower bass notes. In my bedroom my subwoofer roles off the same as yours around 26hz. With sealed subwoofers I believe the room is what suggests the frequency response.

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому

      @@maincharacter2677 I'll try to remember when I get around to building the sub. It'll be a month or maybe a few depending on how much I need to spend on my car to get it fixed. No point in putting money into the sub when the location it is going isn't usable.
      And yeah my room is just about square. About a foot off of being a square unfortunately.
      I'm wondering if walls that are a little leaky (like you can hear the TV under the closet wall, the living room is behind that wall) plays a part with the bass being worse than it should be.

    • @maincharacter2677
      @maincharacter2677 3 роки тому +1

      Josh M Ouch I understand that problem. The worst thing is no matter where I put the subwoofer the frequency response hardly changes I think that'll be the same for you.
      I think you already know this but you should treat your room with acoustic foams and dampening if you haven't already. Maybe that could bring out the low end you've been missing as your driver should compare to mine if not surpass it based on the size of the enclosure and driver itself.
      Ah yes as much as we all love subwoofers we got to deal with the most important things!

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому

      @@maincharacter2677 Actually different areas of my room cause different phase cancelations as does different orientations of my 18. Since the 18 is so big and far off the ground it tends to lose a lot of the 60Hz area unless it's in a specific area somewhat near a certain wall that likes to boost that area.
      So far I've moved it too many times to count but currently it's in the center of the closet and with the closet doors open it seems to be the most consistent throughout 20Hz to 100Hz. (After some DSP tweaking of course)
      Acoustic foam can only do so much, mostly on the highs if it's thin stuff. I have some DIY acoustic panels that help, though they aren't placed in the most ideal places anymore after moving the room around and having to deal with other things in the room. If I wanted to properly treat the bass region, I think I'd need something with a fair bit of mass probably around the corners. (even the ceiling corners) Or some Helmholtz resonators though I'm not 100% sure how those work, I just know they are a thing.

    What's the tuning or should i say frequency responce?

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому

      I'm not sure there really is a tuning for sealed. But the F3 for this box is around 39Hz.
      Frequency response in my house I can't recall what it was, but it wasn't that great for under 30Hz.
      In my car it was great with the proper lowpass setup it'd play down to 26Hz very respectively.
      Also had the ability to play well under 20Hz audibly when the car wasn't moving. But for the actual usable range at a decent volume was limited to 26Hz+
      Got a new box if you look at recent videos and this 10" is killing the lows now.

      @@anxiety1209 that sucks. Hope he's ok.
      When you do get a car if you want low low bass and don't need extreme spl the Ultimax subs can tune very low and give some good low end.
      I know most people tune high in a car (yes 30Hz+ is high tuning to me) but I like to tune low. And my 19Hz tuned 10" is amazing. I'd recommend 21-24Hz tuning though as that will offer a bit more spl at the cost very slightly less low end extension.

    Hey brother. I'm looking for a sub for my current build in a Lexus GX470. I'm going to be running some Morel Titanium raw drivers, Morel 2.5 raw driver mids and Morel Tweeters active. I run Morel Hybrid 602's active in my 5th Gen 4Runner with a 12W6v3 sealed @ 800 watts. I love the W6. It's a very musical sub that can get down if you want it to. What I'm looking for with this build is a very linear / low distortion sub. I'm going to shoot for even better SQ this time around. I'm debating on two Dayton Audio HF 10's or maybe 1 Ultimax 12. Like I said, I'm looking for really low distortion and highly accurate. Do you have any input in regards to the performance of the Ultimax as an SQ sub?

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому +1

      That's hard to answer. In my car my Ultimax 10 I don't hear any harmonic distortion. Even playing under 20Hz it's very clean.
      I suspect that's because I have it in my trunk and it's acting like a filter (think similar to a bandpass) so it sounds real clean.
      In the house though I'm unsure if it's the rooms fault but distortion when playing under 30Hz is very noticeable. The lower I play the more annoying it is. (This is mostly at louder volumes closer to rated power which is 500w for this 10")
      The Ultimax subs sealed will play very low in a car. (At last in my car it does) but the other Dayton subs might sound a cleaner but sacrificing low end output.
      Another option is ported. Don't let ported fool you into thinking it doesn't sound as good as sealed.
      As long as it build it right with a good driver it'll sound very good. I have a new box the 10" is going into soon. I'm expecting much better low end because of the 19Hz tuning. Should be much cleaner in the house when playing that low.

      @@JoshM7 Thanks. The HF is looking like the best of both worlds for what I'm looking for. Maybe I'll mess around with the Ultimax in the future, but right now they are out of stock until April.

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому

      @@TickleFingers Yeah I saw they were out of stock so my planned downgrade to dual low tuned 10s is put on hold for a few months.
      But that's fine as it'll give me time to play around with this new box I made and see how I like the low end.
      I'm thinking either Dual low tuned 10s or dual 18s Sealed. My ported 18 is too big I want something smaller for this small room.
      Sealed 18s would get flat to 10Hz in my room but I don't think I care for that, I think I like a little bit of boost at 20Hz instead. I've already found out my single 18 if sealed can move things around the house as low as 6Hz. Crazy. But not usable like 15Hz+ is.

    • @JoshM7
      @JoshM7  3 роки тому

      I'd recommend the 18 if that's your plan as that'd be pushing over rated power and while Ultimax subs can take a beating. Better to have something made to take just about that much instead of something made to take less.
      They'd both perform exactly the same in that size enclosure. Within 1dB of each other. It's almost $100 extra but I feel it'll handle that power while the 15s will but with some struggling.

      @@DEADMONEY_ Well the 15 is still a beast. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. As I said they both perform pretty close to each other, the 18 just has a little more headroom mechanically with the Xmax and bigger size.
      I used the Inuke 3000DSP in this video for this 10" It's more than enough Bridged. But it can't give my 18" full power because I personally believe the Inuke 3000DSP can only do upwards of 600w into 4 ohm Bridged.
      I couldn't tell you what the XLS 1002 does, but I was considering a pair of them Bridged for my 2 Ultimax 12s to give more power than my single Inuke can per channel. I can only give around 150w per channel from my Inuke into 4 ohm and while it isn't much it does sound amazing and get pretty loud.
