If you go into the doctor with flu symptoms during flu season they give you a flu test so he probably had one.

Fuck any artist that tries to sue another for "similar" sounding songs. We've been making music since we learned to use tools, it is IMPOSSIBLE to be purely "original" at this point
and yet plenty of people make music every day that doesn’t sound similar enough to that of a world famous band they almost definitely listened to to get them sued. bear in mind Yellowcard has a very good legal team, and if their legal team thought that this was not a valid, viable case, they would never have initiated the lawsuit. the lawyers of a band that’s been famous for over a decade probably know more about how music plagiarism works than you.
Nah, plagiarists exist. Inspiration and immitation are distinct and if someone blatantly lifts something I'm not gonna lose any sleep over them getting a bill.
This case does seem like a stretch though.

Good news everyone! Yellowcard ultimately dropped the lawsuit against Juice WRLD's estate.
Bad news is they're still gross and reading more details about the case made me even angrier. Yellowcard was pursuing a $15 million dollar amount, as well as royalties to the song "Lucid Dreams." From what I read, the $15 million amount was excluding additional damage that Yellowcard wanted to pursue. Those additional damages would have been from Juice WRLD's concerts and appearances because they alleged that the song effectively launched his career. While that's likely true, the implied reasoning behind all this is that, to some extent, Yellowcard alleged that _their melody_ and thus _they_ had launched Juice WRLD's career and thus deserved a slice of his success.
Absolute leeches. Disgusting.

Many years ago it was prank videos, then reaction videos, then bullying videos, then complaining about UA-cam itself, now it's complaining about how had others are...I think there may have been a flat Earth phase in there too but maybe that was just my home screen lol

I think it's insane how no one is pointing out how similar the start of Lucid Dreams is to the start of Shape of My Heart by Sting.

Being broken up has nothing to do with the fact that someone could be making money off of a song that they feel is a rip off of theirs. Royalties are a big part of financial stability in the music industry. Even tho Juice is dead his estate will still make money off that song, and Yellowcard doesn't want someone making money off something they feel they wrote first.
It makes sense when you're a broke megalomaniac. They're willing to sell their own legacy for what amounts to $150K, max, once the lawyers are paid and it's split between the writers of the song.

And if they win, their image remains intact because they would therefore find Juice guilty of copyright infringement.

The lawsuit was started in oct before his death and legal proceedings don’t just magically come to a halt with a death. They could have gone through the motions to stop it but didn’t so fuck em, the case was weak at best and they were never going to win
