Henry Hatsworth is one of best, most creative games on the DS; and the footage you used didn’t do the game justice because it left out half of the entire gameplay system by not showing the bottom screen. Definitely a game that is forever “stuck” on the NDS.
Really glad to see Henry Hatsworth here, as a buddy of mine actually worked on that game and introduced it to me…and yeah, it’s awesome! Also really glad to see Custom Robo Arena mentioned, as that’s a series heavily underrated altogether. Monster Racers I’ve never heard of, but love the idea for it! Definitely one I want to check out! Awesome video as always man!
Draglade 1 & 2 for the NDS. It's a platform fighter like Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure [gba] where there are platforming stages to fight enemies and traditional 1v1 fighting. The gimmick of the game is that you compose music to play for your combo-chain attack. Although the game is themed around music most of the combat will be based around the three projectile moves you equip onto your character. There are several to purchase in game that you can mix and match to your playstyle.
YO! I remember From The Abyss! It had a sort-of re-release on the DSIWare store as Anonymous Notes: From The Abyss. It followed actual characters you played as (granted, they used the pre-built character sprites). The 1st demo followed a dude just adventuring into the abyss to fight off evil (cause either his father or grandfather told him it'd be something good to do.) The 2nd one followed a girl (a witch I think?) Going into the abyss for treasures. And the 3rd one was (very hazy from me) Some guy going in to find some powerful artifact? Can't remember too well. I think gameplay wise, it was even stricter, since you can't pick what stats you upgrade or not. So it just boils down to a dungeon looting game. But hey, it had some story at least there. I could be horribly wrong on all of this. I'm going off what I remember from back then.
Fortunately there are many checkpoints per level so you can try again quickly. Punishment platformer like Ghouls n ghosts. Lots of precision required, but very satisfying when you beat it!
Just because Dominus Collection happened to be easily portable doesn’t prove anything about DS to Switch. How would one port Contra 4 or Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword?
@@Toschez On the Switch it probably would be quite easy since it has a touchscreen. Have the displays on various setups and give the option to use analog stick as an optional screen input. The problem starts with those who play on TV but if the new Switch could output to TV and its display at the same time, it would pretty much alleviate all of the worries.
@@adam145 Those games exclusively need two screens stacked, not to mention heavy touch control in Ninja Gaiden. Playing on Switch is a compromise either way, far from perfect. Rather, the DS Castlevania games only prove that they were just GBA games at heart with optional screen.
Another collection for my DS games, thank you for the recommendations😊❤ I'm glad many people recognize Nora and time studio, Tao's adventure. I played those and those games are truly hidden gem
"If you can find it for a good price"... At the off chance someone is at this comment, please listen.. It's incredibly easy to mod handhelds or even emulate on your phone to play these games.. Piracy is a bad thing, when applied to current gen consoles.. But for consoles that have long been forgotten by their respective creators, the ruling hands are greedy, disgusting resellers.. NEVER BUY THESE GAMES AT COLLECTOR VALUES! It's the only way to stop these greasy trolls from selling everything beyond reason . Please, just emulate and make a scalpers family go hungry!
There are mouch other possibilitys than emulation. For example "buying an original dsi and mod it to play these games directly from your console." so you dont have to emulate and you can play it as intended.
Oh shit, I randomly played From the Abyss when I was a kid somewhere, and I had that game burned into my memory, but I forgot the name, I tried finding it a couple times but never found anything. Thank you for the nostalgia trip
@@thatvideogamesshow love your videos btw! I ended up giving so many of the games in your videos a try cause of how fun they look, thanks for bringing to light so many underrated games and systems
Man i want a 358 remake so bad. The story is one of the strongest in the series and an overhaul of the gameplay(especially the quests) would be amazing
Another great video! Contra 4, like Kirby Super Star Ultra, is also best played with a friend with another DS and copy of the game in co-op multiplayer! So much fun! I'd like to pick up some DS games I've missed, how safe is eBay in terms of DS games? Heard lots of fakes are circulating these days.
Dragon Quest IX is the one I need ported. Playing local multiplayer and clearing grottos with friends was the best time. The switch handles DS emulation really well. Paired with a flip grip attachment, it's a really good DS experience
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fates and FFCC Echoes of Time are two games with some of the best stories I've seen in games, let alone the DS. The DS had some absolute bangers like FFCC, Pokemon Explorers, Fossil Fighters, etc. It was really an era of variety bc developers had to make their games actually good because the graphical limits were pretty low lol.
Monster racers is such a fun game! Easily one of my favorites on the ds, shame it seems to be a bit unpopular. From the abyss is also quite fun, i gotta finish it someday.
Amazing list my man! but I searched for a couple of those games and they were japan exclusives. So it was a bomb to know that😑 Big shoutout to the Blue dragon spin off series on the DS, those were gold
Thanks for this video. I have only heard of one of these games. I never knew about that dragon ball game, which is crazy as a fan of all the gba games.
henry hatsworth was one of the first DS games I ever played. Funny little guy, once you charge up that meter after "killing" the enemies on the bottom screen you get to watch this funny animation of an elderly 19th century English man sip on some tea and hop into a steampunk mech suit, then go to town on the level/stage for a duration.
Henry Hatsworth is one of the greatest 2D platformers made for any console. The gameplay mechanics / physics feel perfect, and the art and music design are on par with something that Rare would have put out on the SNES or N64. Specifically Rare. This game has a very Rareware vibe about it.
Another game that few people talks about but take so much time for me and it was GOAT ds game, is blue dragon: awakened shadow THIS IS THE GAME MY BOYZ
I'm not usually a turn based kind of guy, but I love Dragon Ball so I knew I had to pick up Attack of the Saiyans! I haven't played much of the DS version but I did add it to my collection some time ago. From the Abyss looks pretty fun! I'm always on the lookout for good action RPGs so I might check it out!

It will be hard to continue attack of the saiyan with monolith soft being owned by nintendo. They probably doing the new xenoblade n helping nintendo with zelda, spiltoon n animal crossing.
Attack of the saiyans suffers from difficulty spikes so you most definitely have to grind. From the abyss was originally a dsi ware title that was released in chapter which is why the game is so short as it was compiled into one rom and given a physicsl release. He showed the bottom screen.
Barely lol
Also missed out on the huge mech power-up that is really satisfying.
Ost is fantastic. The game is great but difficult as hell in latest levels..
GOOD SHOW! I'd die if it came out in a newer format someday. Such a good game.
Metal Max's enemy designs look really cool and unique.
That's one of the best aspects of the game. The sprite work is incredible!
1:52 I love custom Robo arena. It’s so good. I wish it continued on in the 3ds or switch.
Custom Robo with online multiplayer would rock so hard. Marketplace for trading parts, tournaments, co-op boss fights, there's just unlimited options!
Same here, it's such a shame it hasn't had anymore entries!
While not in the same franchise, LBX on the 3DS is a must play for anyone who enjoyed Custom Robo. One of Level 5’s most underrated games…
Musashi on the switch, by level 5,is a super fun mech game, so arcade-y, but I love it
symnatic drive on switch is made in the style of custom robo by the creator of custom robo might be worth checking out.
I think one of the games that I'm saddest haven't made the list yet is The Legendary Starfy. It was a phenomenal game.

I'm normally not into Contra games, but that one looks like it makes fantastic use of the dual screens.
That Henry Hatsworth game is pretty good, but the difficulty gets absolutely brutally hard in later stages which made me rage quit.
I used cheats. And it was still hard.
There is definitely some Zelda II-level knockback on small platforms going on towards the end.
