  • We HAD the perfect set up, until we didn't. How could we know they would invade and RUIN our poor little seedlings? Can we pivot in time to save the flower garden? Is it over before it starts? Did I mention it was RAINING!?!

    Build a simple soil sifter out of 1 x ? (what ever height you need) with hardware cloth turn it over and cover your seedling trays and then you can use it to sift soil dual- purpose tool.

    Do you have a way to dome the trays? Or, at least cover them with damp paper towel, and keep it damp until they sprout... unless the seed packets specifically say they need light to germinate. If so, use domes.
    Once sprouted, remove the dome/towels and bottom water as needed. If mold is a concern, lightly cover the soil surface with fine vermiculite.
    No fans until they sprout true leaves!
    Y'all got this!

    I have had the same problem with mice, rats and birds ripping out my little seedlings. And snacking on them. My solution was. Hardware cloth about 3-4 inches tall. And whatever size I'm trying to cover. That has worked quite well.

  • @KyleTheFountain
    @KyleTheFountain 2 місяці тому +1

    Maybe try making 1/4 inch wire cages or something like that.

    You may could put some boards across the wood on the sides of the trailer and thereby creating shelve(s) for her seedlings and that way she will have room to enter and stand. One other idea but it may cost a little bit to make, create a standing frame that can be covered with hardware cloth and make a door on it and put shelves in it. Basically making a rodent proof green house on a small scale. Cover with plastic and maybe that would keep her flower starts safe.

    • @FlannelFarms
      @FlannelFarms  2 місяці тому +1

      I did make a shelf across the back, but that was after we finished filming. Good idea about the hardware cloth

    Put a small fan in with the seedlings and it will serve 2 purposes. One it will mimic what wind does outside to strengthen the stems and (two) it will help with humidity.

    Victor electronic RAT trap, NOT the mice size, the RAT trap size are the bomb. Mice can squeeze through a pencil width opening. So don't know if hardware cloth would work, metal screen covers yes.

    Darn mice! I'm glad you have a trailer to move it to. I hope that works! I'm sure you're getting soaked. Thanks for filming Petal princess! Looks good. I already got the shirt. Thanks for this video! I have to put mint oil in a ball of cotton I hang from my rear view mirror in a metal wire ball to keep the mice out of my car. The field mice love cars. It's a constant battle. Good luck!

    I use old feedbags to catch mice. They can get in but not out if you prop them upright. I keep one between 2 metal trash cans with lids and put a paper towel with peanut butter in the bottom of the bag. I empty the bag in the chicken run and the hens love furry snacks.

    It's going to be fine, Brian! FAITH -mustard seed. I'm on my second round of corn. They are supposed to take about 10 days to germinate. I have spunky seeds, the broke ground in less that 3 days. So, cheer up, they will be up before you know it. Oh, the the squirrels got my pepperlets too. So, new ones on the heat mat. It's still all good.

    My seedling cabinet is one of those steel kitset shelving units with a light and a desktop usb fan in each of the shelves. I got a roll of grow tent material and clad the shelving unit. and made roll up doors, taping everything together with duct tape. Finding a perfect set of outer trays for terracotta balls/sand/gravel that let the seed trays fit inside was tricky in my country because of the limited selection.
    I have seen some nicely fitted out trailer growrooms in videos showcasing growing micro greens.

This year seems to be going better in the grow room but i keep them covered too hopefully, still have a few hardheaded mice but no where near as bad as last year.
