Flannel Farms
United States
Приєднався 12 тра 2021
I tried, honest I did. I was going to make a wholesome family homesteading vlog thing, and somewhere along the way, the wheels came off, and we fell into ridiculousness. I now humbly offer you some useful information wrapped in the absurd. There is still a family, new to homesteading, trying to make healthy food themselves. There are homesteading things, family things, building things, fixing things, current event things, and mostly encouraging things, with nonsense interspersed. I hope you learn something, but most of all, I hope that when you click on one of our videos, at some point, you smile, and your day is a little brighter. Don't worry, though! Every now and then, we run around and panic!! Because after all, the apocalypse is coming!!!

How To Make Lump Charcoal With Only A Shovel!
We needed an inexpensive source of lump charcoal on our homestead! Our youngest Flannel decided he was going to take up blacksmithing and in order to do that without spending a fortune on propane, we needed lump charcoal!

Переглядів 1,1 тис.День тому
We have had our chicken coop door for about a year, and it has a lot of traits that I really like, and it has cost us dearly. Is it the door's fault? Could we have prevented it? Should you get a chicken coop door? We cover the pros and cons here and earnestly hope you can learn from our mistakes. Our video is sponsored by Onforu LEDs! I like this product so much I bought two. See the link below...
Every Single Chicken Was Killed.... (And it is my fault...)
Переглядів 3 тис.28 днів тому
We had a free range flock of about 30 chickens, and in a shockingly short period of time they were all taken out by predators. I know what happened but I didn't realize it in time. I hope we can spare you the agony of this with a few ideas. Chicken losses will happen, but I have never had this happen to this scale before. #chicken #Chickens #Birds #Dogs #dog #Farm #flannelfarms

How Can This Light Make Me A Better Dad?
Beautiful babies ❤ Protect the animals ❤
👏👍💕💕
3months 3weeks 3 days she will spit out another batch. When the babies are around 8 months old they can do the same thing they multiply quicker than rabbits
Yep, unless you keep them from the boar. This is her 3rd litter
That’s lots of future bacon.
So cute when they're little.
They're cute big too
And tasty!
Is that 11 or 12? And how many usually make it to adulthood? I don't mean to be offensive.
No offense, taken! Please feel free to ask me ANYTHING, I'm happy to answer all questions. 12 were born, 11 have lived so far. It has been our experience that if they live through the first 24 hours they make it to adulthood.
12 I think , tiny baby pigs , 😊
12 born, 11 lived through the night, and three are totally tea cup little babies haha
Will older chickens raised on the red trays learn how to drink how of this little nipple flange? What makes them want to pec at the stud?
In most cases, yes, I've heard from some people they couldn't get their grown birds to use them. I haven't found that to be the case with my birds. As for the pecking, I can't scientifically prove it, but I've heard chickens like to peck at stuff that is red. What I can say is if your birds are thirsty and you push the nipple with your finger some water will pool in that little lip on the waterer and when the birds go to drink from that they inadvertently hit the plunger causing more water to come out. It never takes my birds more than a few hours to figure it out.
Hpw precious
I love this video with the music and the time lapse of the charcoal making! It's great that the youngest flannel wants to do blacksmithing! Thanks eldest flannel for filming and editing the videos! I have very much enjoyed your work. My neighbor made a forge with a hair dryer and a 5 gallon bucket with concrete inside. Your forge is better than his. His anvil was a piece of railroad rail. It worked well. I bought a Paradise Petals shirt for middle flannel. I'll try and get a new shirt in the next 30 days.
I'll tell her!
🔥 Fire
Awesome 😎
My thighs still havent spoken to me since the last time I laid flooring. Good lord what a surprise
Ha! It will take a toll on you
Your method is so much better than just burying it or spraying it with a hose. And the double barrel retort system is too complicated! I love your way!!!!
Thanks Matt! It was a lot of fun to do
Got an onforu 60w light last week..bright! 'Bout to order a back up just in case. Solid recommendation, thanks!
Wonderful! Mrs. Flannel and I were just talking last night about how happy we were with them on the house and how bright it made everything! Glad you like them!
Show youngest flannel making a hoe or a rake or stabbing weapons, C'MON please!!!!!
If you have a metal plate the size of your drum, you could put the wood on the plate and cover it with the drum. Build a fire under the plate and you should get a better yield with higher quality.
I don't have flat sheets, they all have those ridges in them, but you're right. I thought about Mayne using one of my 55 gallon barrels with a lid and smothering it that way, but part of this was to show folks who might not have anything other than a shovel how to make some.
It is great that you are bringing back traditional methods. Because we smoke a bunch of meat using chunk wood, we get charcoal as a byproduct. I may try it in a forge.
@johngalt5504 let me know if you do and how you like it.
I gotta say Brian and young Flannels , this is seriously awesome. What your kids are learning is invaluable and if they all.pursue their paths , they could land good jobs in the future Not to mention the fun they are having, and hanging out with dad. Truly beautiful.
Thanks so much!
Parenting gold, right here!
Those editing skills are pretty stinkin good!
She is something!
Pretty good guys, Thanks for the smiles.
Brian, Onw of the forums Im on is reporting widespread power outage in your area? U ok?
Yes ma'am, thanks for checking on us. The storm missed us.
Was Flannel Channel taken?
No, but to make a long story short, we started as a stump grinding channel, and there were two of us. We were the Flannel Guys. When we bought the property, we changed it to Flannel Farms.
@@FlannelFarms Thank you for the back story. Just found your channel thru the poultry nipple videos and i also have poison ivy in my back yard I found out the hard way
Glad you found us and welcome to the Flannel Fam! Yeah I really, really hate poison ivy...
I can't get my chickens ducks or geese to even try to get water from these. I used an old 3 gallon water jug and it day there fill!
This video made me laugh so much and I learned a bunch too!😂🎉
Wonderful! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
I love the tidy cat buckets with locking lids. I wish they also took that same plastic and made bin style containers to sell the litter in. Like the shape and size of a cat litter pan with a lid. Like a shallow tote. So far, the raccoons haven't figured out how to open the locking lids.
Omg you are hilarious 😂 not even a minute & I had to pause I was laughing so hard.
That's awesome! I really try and bring some uplifting stuff to people. The world is dark enough as it is! Thank you for your comment!
You got me hooked. 🤣🤣🤣...yrs, the first waterer and then the second one...I haven't put those together yet. I just came across this video today. I'm subscribed to you now. I'm sending it to my husband so he can see this. I live your humor😂
That means a great deal to me! Thanks so much 😀
P.S. your daughter is precious
@juliemarr65 thank you
I hate these things,u can never open them.
What size copper you using
It was too small, 3/8ths I believe. A larger pump and diameter would have made a bigger difference.
@FlannelFarms I'm looking at a 2000gph pump what size copper you think
What type of copper tubing are you using
@rtcosta9392 at least 3/4 if not 1 inch, that should have a max capacity of 2200gph
It was soft copper, comes in a big round wheel. Copper Tube, KWOKWEI 15/32inch(12mm) OD Pure Copper Tubing, 3.28ft Length Soft Coil Copper Tubing Seamless Hollow Copper Round Tube for Refrigerator, Air conditioners, freezers, DIY projects a.co/d/bYzIVFe This isn't 1 inch, but this type
Thanks for this valuable info!! I was constantly cleaning that first one & finally took the bowl off & just using the red bottom part. Then I got the #2 one you introduced & had to keep cleaning out those little bowls🤦♀️ So you sir are a Blessing in sharing this valuable knowledge on providing poop free chicken water for my pets…yes, they are my pets that donates gifts regularly. Thanks again for this info & demo.
I'm so glad it helps! Let me know once you get the system up and running how it works out for you!
Will do. It will be a minute but will definitely let you know. Thanks again!
@farmlady77 gladly! Enjoy
Wells where I live are over $35k 😢
Sorry :/
👍
Amazing the climate difference between such a short distance of cape Henry to Urbana. The azaleas are beautiful. Mine are done.
Is there a link to the ones you used? I see others but they are not just screw in
Carolina Coops 5 Pack Horizontal Side Mount Chicken Waterer Nipples for Poultry Water Systems, Leak-Free Guarantee, Made in Denmark a.co/d/1wP6RHU
Love it. I want to know how you did the original pallet barn, i need one!
That one was a pile barn, and pallets were added as filler between the poles. So not as cheap but it looks pretty good 😀
One of my fav videos on the internet🥰🌻
It was like a dream walking around in there!
It’s in the simple things ☺️
Thank You! I have used the other waterers and haven’t tried the nipples yet… now I will! Great Video, you are a hoot! 😂
Thanks kindly! We aim to uplift and entertain, and maybe, just maybe, help someone learn something haha.
Awesome! 🔥👍
I love the forge. Looking forward to seeing it all
My dad used a forge with shoter legs to make horse shoes as he was our farrier also
That is cool, man. My kid might learn some of that one day
I really love the effects great info presented in a funny way
Eldest Flannel is doing a great job!
@@FlannelFarms she really is it’s awesome
👍😊💕
I’ve used these nipple waterers for a few years now. I would be leary using a 55 gallon drum, ‘cause the nippler springs wear out and will begin leaking.
I use pig nipple waterers mostly on the 55-gallon barrels, and those have held up great for the chickens. You just need to cut the springs a little so it doesn't take as much pressure to activate. Thanks for your comment! Have a lovely day 😀
Can ducks use these as well.
I don't see why not, but I've only had ducks once
