I built a brooder box, about 8ft long, 2 ft wide and high. 1/2 has solid walls, 1/2 half has hardware cloth. lid splits in half. heat lamp in the solid side, and when the chicks are less than a week old they stay in the solid half ( built a divider that I can slide in and out) . The brooder box sits outside, on the back porch. Once they are older than 1 week (earlier if its hot out) I take out the divider, and they can use the entire thing. I have a metal lid that goes over the divided lid to provide shade and or rain protection.
I've a 6ft wide x 2ft wide x 2ft high. Mine is 1/3rd covered walls/roof and 2/3rds hardware cloth. Sounds very similar to yours. This one in the video I made more for backyard folks.

I'm back in Minnesota right now seeing my kids and getting the animals at the farm new homes. I'll stay at least through my younger son's graduation from high school. I got to watch the high school play he was in yesterday and it was fantastic. He played three parts and did very well. I'm very proud of him for joining the drama crew all this year. It's weird visiting the farm now that we are divorcing. I got my ducks moved to a friend's farm and she was going to try ducks this year so it worked out great. She needs a little more time to take the rooster and the fixed pygmy goat. They should all fit in very well. Then I head back to get the Subaru fixed and drive it back here for my older son going to college out of state next Fall. I love the humor that you do all your videos with. Take care Flannel family!
