    As previously stated, Thank you sooo much for posting this video. Well thought out and very well explained! My stepson’s 2011 Focus has stripped the teeth on what’s possibly the original belt with 130K on it! He was told by the garage he bought it from (now out of warranty) that they were certain the belt had been replaced but had no service history to back it up. I too was preparing to pull the head off.

      No problem, they are extremely common issues with this, providing it hasn’t dropped a valve you should be able to follow the video and rebuild without removing the head!

    I’ve repaired alot of these 8 valve Diesel engines now with the cambelts losing their teeth, due to them not being changed, Causing the destruction, needle bearings and rockers smashed to pieces in the head. I’ve also removed the sump to clean out any of the smashed rockers from the bottom of the engine. 9 times out of 10 it’s just a cambelt kit, new rockers and a camshaft.
    Unfortunately if you’re unlucky sometimes it can pop a valve spring off and bend a valve or valves. Then It’s head off, more pain and money! in my experience the rockers should be changed with the cam shaft with the possibility they could be stressed or fractured due to the contact of the cam spinning on the lobes, sometimes the fractures can’t been seen by the human eye, good video… of how to repair this..,

    Fantastic video, ive just followed it and found that the rockers have been smashed to fook. The valves are in place, no sign of bending from the top. Is there any chance that there are bits from the rockers that have fallen in to the lower engine/do i need to worry about this? Thanks.

    • @Chris_CDB
      @Chris_CDB  8 місяців тому +1

      Ideally you will want to drain oil, remove sump and remove any debris, you will likely be missing needle bearings from the rockers that will of probably made there way into the sump.

    Hi there I tried to do my timing and ended up messing the timing up when i turned the crank round by hand the valves were tapping now the timing is messed up do i have to open the valve cover to reset the camshaft timing and get the crankshaft tdc nightmare stripping the top of these engines off I have a Ford Focus 1.6 tdci a reply is much appreciated cheers

    • @Chris_CDB
      @Chris_CDB  11 місяців тому +1

      No you don’t need to take the cover off, you need to take the belt off and basically keep
      Moving the pulleys (cam and crank) until
      You can get them in the correct place for the pins to go in.

  • @chriskingston4256
    @chriskingston4256 Рік тому +1

    Silly question - How did you know the crank was timed correctly? i know you have the locking tool in, but isnt it two rotations for every one at the top? genuine question as have this job to do :(

    • @Chris_CDB
      @Chris_CDB  Рік тому +2

      It is ONE rotation of the CRANK to TWO rotations of the CAM, so 1 rotation of bottom end will turn over cam 2 times.
      Once the locking tool is in you will be in the timed position for the bottom end ONLY.

    Are these engines not interference fit? If so it's a miracle it didn't smash the valves and wreck the pistons being that far out of time

    • @Chris_CDB
      @Chris_CDB  Рік тому

      Yes these are interference engines, and as I say in the video you would unusually expect the rockers to be broken/ cracked. However I’m this case it seemed to of stripped the belt on cranking to start so the damage was minimal!

    • @drdebs3908
      @drdebs3908 7 місяців тому +1

      My understanding is that because the valves are vertical and the rockers/camshaft designed in such a way they can fail first this minimises the chance of bending a valve

    • @Chris_CDB

      @@MechanicBundy you will need to strip it down to the point where you can see the valve springs, (about 8.40 point in the vid), and if all the valve springs are still in place it hasn’t dropped a valve, if any of the springs are loose then it most likely has. If you refer to one of my other videos about what you don’t want to see my other video about the 1.6 hdi cambelt failure

    • @Chris_CDB
      @Chris_CDB  4 місяці тому +1

      @olehansen6655 it will do, as it’s a 4 stroke engine, you will always have a set of loves on the cam that is touching the valves, you just need to get it basically there (where it’s nearly in time), like I show on the video and tighten it down.

      Hi again. 4 Valves are bended so i buy new ones tomorrow. Would u do anything to the valves before i put them in the cylinderhead? Grinding with paste and by hanh maybe or can i just plug them in?

    • @Chris_CDB
      @Chris_CDB  4 місяці тому

      @@olehansen6655 have you got the cylinder head off to confirm that you have bent valves? Like I said it’s extremely rare for these to bend as they don’t come into contact with the pistons from an angle.
