No apology needed, I'm just glad you owned the shot being little off and not trying to act like it was perfect like so many do. Happens to everybody, beautiful deer
The reason this deer didnt seem that spooked when he looked into the tree is because Mark played all his cards right, did his scouting and knew what the deer was doing without pressuring him, then waited for perfect day and went in and killed him. Mark has mastered hunting deer without ever letting the deer know there being hunted. Thats the name of the game and I think Mark deserves credit for all his great deer. Not jealous pple saying hes hunting a fenced farm.
i agree. and fenced or not i think we all know aint nothing easy about putting an arrow or shot in a deer. let alone one of these monsters. id be shaking in my boots if this thing walked out on me 😂
My TV provider doesn't carry The Outdoor or Sportsman's channels, so I'm so thankful I have access to this great content here. I ask for the same thing every year for my birthday, which happens to coincide with the start of gun season in Texas.
I can say there was no October lull in Ga this year at least for me...I saw the most deer during the 3 weekends I hunted in October on public land this year.
250 + bow Hunts on public land... not one chance at a shot on a buck that wasn't a baby... Videos like this remind me of how I'm hunting a deer desert wasteland... congratulations on having a place to hunt that can grow whitetails like that...
casualobserver77 i have a place to hunt that is freaking prime...my company owns it and NOBODY has EVER hunted it.its juuuuuuust outside of city limits. About 150 200 acres of nice woods with a beautiful creek going through it. I went to the creek and the banks and found super highways of deer trails. Found 3 scraps and 2 rubs. Cant wait to hunt it this weekend
I'm not a big fan of the "lull". It's simply a transition from summer home range to their, in my opinion, wider home range thru the rut and early winter. Feeding habits will change right along with their timing. A lot of mature bucks will go nocturnal cause they're not stupid, they know what's coming from their experiences of years past. To answer your question, a cold front helps tremendously. A colder pre-rut is awesome. High 70s and 80s in October kinda sucks or atleast most of the time. The timing of coming out of mid-october into early pre-rut has to do with multiple things, however, the weather is #1 in my opinion. People will argue, and rightly so, that it all has to do with the moon. I've hunted those red moon phases religiously and if it's warm....the activity is extremely slow. And, actually my trail cameras show the activity at night when it's much cooler . But, combine that red moon phase with highs in the low 50's and lows in the 30's in late October....you're gonna have a good time in the woods. Ultimately for me... it's all about the weather.
I like the Drury's but they are full of it on this hunt. Mark grunts, growls, and snort wheezes with the call. Deer comes in calm as can be eating. The "Hyper Growl" was done after the shot LOL. I hope folks don't start doing calling sequences like this in real life.
Either that or it didn't hear him. Two nights ago I was trying to call in coyotes and had a decent 8 point come up to me. That doesn't make any sense to me at all, so I'm guessing it just didn't hear me.
If you base the deers reaction as to when the calling was recorded, that has no logic in that at all. Deer do all kinds of things that don't seem to make sense. If you don’t know that, you aren't a serious hunter.
Good buck Congrats, sometime when you have a buck like that come in you can have the string to tight to your face or torque that grip little. That comes from focusing on that rack a little.
Been hunting 20 years not sure I know about an oct lull oct but then again oct is always my best time where nov always sucks for me never see crap in oct
hendricks baker1 Draw weight is a preference thing, it really doesn’t make that much of a difference. But hey if you wanna pull 90 pounds of draw weight on your bow, go ahead. I ain’t stoppin ya

mad scientist??? Because he has access to amazing property and kills huge bucks? I'd bet everything I have if any of these tv guys tried hunting regular land like the rest of us, they would suck more than average.
He"s called the mad scientist because he understands deer movement and shoots more monster whitetails than any person on earth. The only reason he's at where he is now is because he consistently shot big deer in his younger days on properties just like the average guy hunts, and was willing to bust his back to get on decent properties. Just because someone is better at something than you or willing to work harder for it doesn't mean you have to dislike them and talk crap about them.
But that's not the case now is it? It's just you and your buddy's that "suck more than average", isn't it? Maybe you should listen to these Drury boys. You may learn something. I know I have over the years. But, first, you have to have that property that has that big buck potential. If you don't have that....you may want to lower your standards until you find it. Never stop looking for it tho'.
Hi my name is dakota freese I've been watching your videos for years and I've been wanting to reach out. I'm an iowa boy and I'm a huge bow hunter like you are and I was hoping I could talk with you about getting an opportunity to come hunt with you. I've been hunting with my grandfather for years on a friend's property in cedar rapids and we just lost that opportunity because our friend sold that land and I really wanted to talk to you about getting a chance to dedicate a hunt of a life time with you to thank my grandfather for all the great memories of bow hunting with him, so if your willing to chat with me and possibly set up a hunt I'd really be honored.
When a buck is already looking at you and not suprised when you shoot then he's gonna lurch forward and take off causing your shot to be missplaced...thats why i dont like meh'ing to stop a buck
Them pse bows shoot all over the place. They shoot left right up down everywhere but where u are aiming. And this is coming from someone that shot a pse omen for 2 years and now hunt with a Mathews. MATHEWS CATCH US IF U CAN...
Ryan, we're glad to hear you're liking the throwback hunts! We really appreciate the time you took to watch. We just dropped a new video, the first of Deer Season 21 if you're looking for something more current! Have a great week.
Haters gonna hate. Folks done realize that the DOD guys have been hunting and managing deer on there land since the 80’s. Years!!!!!!!! And have to draw a tag. They dont even get to hunt in iowa every year. Get off there backs. They are good and spend countless hours working on land and the herds.
Exactly!!! Levi I don't even watch these guys anymore this is probably a paid hunt those deer just don't have pressure. I have friends who own a paid hunt in Ohio and the deer act like this, they said when they take people to the stands the deer hear the atv's and come out like answering a dinner bell. If that deer was in my back yard and you even spoke it would be out of there snorting up a storm. That's why this isn't real hunting to me.
It's like every decent hunter knows, when deer have zero pressure year round, they act like this. The deer on our 4k acre Kentucky lease act like this early season and then become edgy as the season progresses.
There are so many things wrong with this hunt! A mist-placed shot, passing up a ten pointer and the deer stopped for a good ten seconds and watched them shoot him! You guys must treat them like pets
October Lull? You got to be kidding me. I would have expected a better answer from a so-called professional Hunter. To all you dude Hunters out there or new to hunting, there is no such thing as a october lull. you just have to be smarter than the deer. This is a transition in food, it's also been proven that throughout the fall bucks activity increases. Those hot Bean Alfalfa and clover Fields now have benn replaced by acorns apples pirmasens to eat in the woods and different foods mushrooms as well to eat. Most hunters ignore the signs typically the first scrapes are made by big bucks. I can go on for another 5 minutes and why there's no such thing as an October Lull. Dury you should know by now by October 13th you should be somewhere in the woods hunting. Not your old hot fields.
Nah it’s just the easiest possible way to grow and kill world class deer. It’s most definitely not fake, though it is much easier. But you still have to put in time, effort, and hard labor to do it. It’s not like the deer are gonna manage themselves.
What's like to kill deer that you dont put the hard work in for? Seriously, I'm surprised those soft little hands can pick up that rack. Maybe one day we'll see a video of them gutting, skinning and processing a deer.
No apology needed, I'm just glad you owned the shot being little off and not trying to act like it was perfect like so many do. Happens to everybody, beautiful deer

Do you think it takes a cold front to bring them out of that "lull" period or what do you attribute increased buck movement in October to??
