    Only thimg I do different is walk the owmer through with me, so what you are saying the owner hears, so they know why it costs what it does, and I know what I dping over somebody else. Rarely do I walk it by myself. Also so we can identify we are going the right direction. So their is no "I thought you were going this way, not that way" thing to get money off at the end.

    When I owned a landscaping company I liked doing estimates. materials, labor, time, profit all get figured in. I used my knowledge to help the owner get what they wanted. I got some I lost some. Advice someone told me once is this. "If you're getting all of the jobs you bid, your price is too low." I do pray you get the ones you want and don't get the others.

    Enjoyed the video Sam. Those are some nice jobs you looked at. I hated having to clear jobs that they had cut the timber off of. Especially pine trees because of their tap roots. Even Smith Worx Cat 313 would get a good workout on those short cut stumps. Finding them all is going to drive you nuts. I'm just glad that I used a Cat D8H or the Cat D6 for those kind of jobs. We didn't use excavators for clearing 35 yrs ago I don't think I would have had the patience to use one. 😂 I would love to see Lindsey @SmithWorx on that hillside clearing stumps.😂 Can't wait to see the videos with Idigit4. how do you weed out the people who want Free work, as in they get you to do it and then explain that they don't have the money to pay.😂 I used to be a partner in an auto shop and I always loved that... After that experience I trust people about as far as I could throw them. It works both ways though, I've seen many business 's try to get over on the customer and have had that done on me as well. That's why I do most things I can myself.

      Yup, I know what you mean. A lot of folks cheating each other in this ole crooked world for sure. I haven't had anyone refuse or not pay so far. I had one deal where a bank escrow account was involved and it was a complete mess but I finally was paid. If in the event someone didn't pay or refused to pay I could put what is called a mechanic's lein on the property. You have to go to court to finalize it but once it is done the property has a lein on it that would be paid if the property is ever sold. Civil suit is another way to collect the money as well....

      @@tristardigginI didn't know that you could do a mechanics lean in construction. Had to hold a customers vehicle for 3 months once over a thousand dollar repair. They had the nerve to call and ask after 2 months could I just let them get it and pay later. I moved it in and out of the shop everyday until they sent a friend and a coworker with their credit card to pick it up. I guess they were ashamed. They let their daughter borrow it or something and the drive shaft came out while daughter had it and broke the transfercase housing and they felt like daughter should pay after they approved the repair. So they didn't think they should have to pay me for the repairs I guess, since it broke when daughter had it IDK. This was a long time ago before I got into trucking.

    I just recently started watching your videos after I just came across one scrolling through UA-cam. I really enjoy watching you do excavation work and clearing off properties and such. I see you have the DJI mini 2, I have 5 Dji drones now including the mini 2 which I have had over 2 years now and it’s been a fantastic little drone. But I also have both mini 3 and mini 3 pro. And the mavic air 2 and air 2s I love to fly them all lol. Hopefully I can get the mavic air 3 soon. I heard you talking about the mini 2 being under 250 grams and it doesn’t require a license. The only time you will need a license is for commercial use of the drone and it doesn’t matter if it is under 250 grams if you’re drone is making you money the FAA says you need a part 107 course. And to be honest it has more stuff regarding different classes of airspace. It’s actually a pretty difficult test and 90% of the information you will probably never use when flying a drone. But the good news is that if you’re just flying recreationally for entertainment and UA-cam videos and stuff then you don’t need the part 107. If you do purchase a heavier drone such as the air 2s or mavic 3 then it will weigh more than 250 grams and all you would have to do is register it with the FAA as a recreational pilot. It’s very simple to log into the FAA website/uas and create an account and pay 5 dollars and the just put your drones serial number on their site and they will issue you a number to use with as many drones as you want. I also heard you talk about having to replace the mini 2 several times. The mini 3 pro has obstacle avoidance and it has point of interest mode you can lock in on your target and the drone will circle a radius around it as big as you need it to that is handy when filming properties. It also has active tracking and you can lock in on your dozer or vehicle and it follows you while dodging objects. It works pretty well I have a few videos on my channel using it.

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for all the good info. I have misunderstood the license thing for a while now. I have always thought you had to get that license if you went 250g or higher. So, what you said clears that up. Sounds like the mini 3 pro is what I need. Would love the tracking ability. I appreciate you supporting the channel too.
      Thanks,
      Sam

      That’s is cool that you are starting your own business. It’s challenging but very rewarding too.
      If I were starting over I would go with a skid steer, mini x, power rake and a brush cutter. The skid steer and mini x make a great combo and complement each other. The brush cutter will give you work in wet times when you can’t do dirt work and also winter time work. The power rake is an amazingly attachment and really makes the finish work look fantastic…

My wife watched as well and said she was glad you liked my sense of humor. Says that’s why she married me. Means a lot you doing that. I got a message on UA-cam s about it this morning. But couldn’t watch till this evening. I bought a Dr Pepper on the way to the jobsite in honor of it lol. That was a great message as well. I went through a lot of praying and asking for the right answers when I wanted to buy a machine and start a business. I was scared even when feeling that God wanted that for me. I kept asking myself (and still do at times) if it was my plans or his. Is this really what he wants for me? But it seems like it’s all falling together in perfect time. I believe it’s by his hand. @@tristardiggin I got the fat max 212ss ( only 4 tires but they are 17.5 with 18 ply tires) 30' It is rated at 25,900# and weighs 7350# so legally I can haul 18,550. With the cat and the mini all the chains and boomers I might be a touch over. I really need to weigh the cat or just take the whole rig down to the scales and the take the weight of the truck off to see where I am at. The DOT out here is serious. If you ever get a shorter like you mentioned in a previous video I would suggest looking at the one I have with the electric over hydraulic disk brakes and the adjustable suspension. I definitely notice the difference in the stopping power.
      also I think you said you were looking to put a gas engine on your dump trailer. If you have a PTO on that ram you could plumb quick connects like on the skid steer attachments to the back of the truck and off the trailer and run the trailer off your PTO. I have a 28000# winch on the front of 550 that is part of the bumper that runs off the PTO and have thought about putting in a valve (like when we switch from jacks to the dovetail) so I could run my dump trailer or the goose neck off of the truck but sadly I haven't made the time. In the mean time I did install line off the battery of the truck ran to the rear with forklift connects that I can hook up to the dump trailer so I never run out of power it works well enough

    How do you bid your jobs, by the day or hourly rate?

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  Рік тому +1

      Almost always by a daily rate. To me there are too many variables and plans change to much to give a set price. Working by daily rate folks know what they are getting and if plans change they know changes and additional work is by the hour. Hope that helps...
