My Partner recently went home to the great spirit after a battle with blood cancer, complication from a stem cell transplant. He too was a musician. He played this song many times. Being a musician he often talked to me over our 38 years together through music. Any musicians partners will recognize this trait. We listened to Tyler regularly especially, during difficult times. Many songs brought us joy, shared memories and even the possibility bring born again, Hope. This song will always hold a place in my heart. We are all connected. Love this song. Love this artist.

It makes me so happy to look out the window and see the misty haze snake its way along the same big old beautiful mountains he came from, knowing that some guy from Nowhere Kentucky came along and created this beautiful music and showed the world that we are poor, we are troubled, but we are not just backwards hillbillies and not everything about our culture is ugly. He is such an inspiration.

Once I was a dying breed
    Chewin’ on an ancient leaf
    Before we took the notion
To keep up with the times
    And leave ‘em all behind
    Chisel to the paper
    Tattoos on the ether
    Fadin’ in the light
All the while I'd gorge my gut
Come the time then I would rut
Runnin’ high and low to find my prehistoric queen
To keep me warm till Spring
When I'd go out with my friends
Graze the land and wonder when I’d see your face again
Till the day I met my doom
I took one in the boiler room
To put food on the table of a dying breed of man
Once I was a broken heart
And once I tore your heart apart
Once my heart put out before I ever got to breathe
But my soul returned to seed
    And come to Earth again
Clucking out a livin' as the favorite layin' hen
'Til the day I met my doom
A fox got in the chicken coop
Doin' all he knew to do to feed a hungry den
On and on down the line
I’ve swam canals and bore the hide
Of plenty births along this ride of being born again
Once I was and you were too
And we were both the word of truth
We built this world together with a loud and mighty bang
Lord it sounded like a train
    And echoed o’er the land
And we came up with a game to play of being born again

There is a verse in this song that goes; "I come to earth again, clucking out a living as a favorite laying hen, till the day I met my doom. A fox got in the chicken coop doin all he knew to do to feed a hungry den.".
For the past few weeks I have been pondering just how interconnected we all are, while eventually evolving into completely forgotten irrelevance.
When I say "we" I mean all living things. From the grape vines and fruit trees in my backyard, to our chickens and dogs, and yes that schizophrenic homeless guy my Son and I shared a meal with yesterday.
A chicken-killing fox is something that has forever been reviled, but put in the light of "doin all he knew to do to feed a hungry den." makes him a hero not a villain. Recognizing the fox's need to reproduce and feed his offspring makes him my neighbor, not my enemy.
    I suppose it's a perspective thing.
I don't really know what the hell I'm talking about this morning.
Just pondering the value of every little actor in this drama we call life. From those grape vines and fruit trees in my backyard, to our chickens in the coop, and our dogs who would kill those chickens given the chance. Especially the schizophrenic homeless guy we hungout with over a meal yesterday.
That homeless schizophrenic guy went to school in this community. He has been part of this neighborhood long before I arrived. He wasn't always lost in conversation with the voices constantly pestering his every single right now. He is my neighbor. I am called to see him as such. Even when he is yelling at the pestering choir only he can hear. I am called to treat him with respect and kindness.
This morning I will have eggs for breakfast. A gift from our chickens. Chickens who we brought home and chose to care for. This makes those birds our neighbors, and deserving our gratitude and respect.
So it is with the tomato, squash, and pepper plants growing in our yard, and the pluot, plum, apricot trees, and grapevines, our big dogs, and yes, especially our homeless neighbors.
All living. All giving. All deserving of gratitude and respect.
I don't really know what the hell I'm talking about this morning.
For the past few weeks I have been cognitive of how interconnected, and essential, we all are, while eventually evolving into completely forgotten irrelevance.
    Have a great weekend Ya'll.
    Hugs........

William I am 22 years clean this month! I have found a way to live where putting something outside inside to change the way I feel is no longer necessary. Hugs brother.

Cheers friend.....you speak with humble wisdom...a long lost trait of simple folk, just trying to survive and do right with our time. You are not alone, and I do find value in your friendship.

Tyler please make us something new. You set the bar high enough; know one will see it from where they stand. I'm thankful you didn't go wild and just throw out songs like most. However, you're starving us! It'd make many good days for many folks to enjoy a Tyler Childers song for the 1st time another time.
