Sometimes I wonder if my cat realizes how extremely lucky he is to live in a home that listens to Tyler Childers every single day of his life 😊. He could have ended up in a Florida Georgia Line's fans house.

“If I’d known she was religious than I wouldn’t have came stoned, to the house of such an angel, too fucked up to get back home”. Too real for today’s country music
I've given up hope with country radio, the CMAs, ACM's, & any other bullshit "pop country" affiliates. Someone needs to pull a Charlie Rich & burn some luke bryan & kelsea ballerini awards..
One of my fave lines in the whole song which is pure peotry, I've been at the house of an angel too fucked up to get back home more times than I can count
As a southerner who never really liked country.. I take it back. Tyler Childers is the closest we have to a modern day country great. He’s going to be looked at as a Hank Williams, Johnny Cash type.
I have the same exact feeling to be honest. I grew up in some poorer areas of Utah and as a kid I truly, genuinely believed that you legitimately had to yell at your wife and beat her, shotgun PBR and Bud Light as soon as you wake up at 8am, work the shittiest possible manual labor jobs known to man, and spend 2-4 years worth of paychecks on the newest, largest and most unnecessarily upgraded F-150 - F-350 on the market, because those were the kind of people I grew up around in the areas I lived. For a long time I abhorred country and would never allow it to play if I could help it; But after discovering this song through a FoolishFrankie video where he absolutely nailed it playing an on-the-spot cover of Feathered Indians using a guitar and a Saxophone so much that I went straight to Apple Music and listened to the full song. Since then I listen to it at least once to and also from work every day, along with Make it Out Alive by Tanner Ursey, Move it On Over by Hank Williams, Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. That’s my country playlist so far lol.
Man, that's the thing. Mainstream country has sucked for nearly 3 decades. 9-11 really warped the heart of the genre and turned into this cheap, nasty, commercialized garbage that just sold generic bro-country and blind nationalism back to country fans for like 20 years. We're just now getting back to the proper heart of the genre with real outlaws and artists that get what it's supposed to be all about.
I am an immigrant from Nepal. Very much into 90's American thrash metal. But a while ago a friend of mine from Minnesota introduced me to Tyler Childers. This shit is just awesome. I can play this on loop a 1000 times and never get tired. One more thing to love about America.
Right on my friend! So happy to have you here! I too am very much a heavy Metal and speed and thrash guy. But for last few years I've learned to love Tyler, and Billy Strings. For months, my car has played nothing but Billy Strings and Ghost. 🤣🤣 Take it easy, my Nepalese friend!

To Tyler Childers. Today we buried Riley Boatright in Oklahoma. He was killed playing football for Lexington Jr. High last Tuesday. His girlfriend lived in Purcell Oklahoma just across the river. This song was his favorite song the day he died. Thank you for giving him a dream he will never see.
Gerardo Ruiz avid bull rider here in the west coast Chualar to be exact and my closest cousin passed away September 30 in a car accident and he loved this song as well RIP Gerardo Ruiz RIP Riley boatright

Thank you for so much for this bond I could have with my son before his passing, Tyler Childers. It reminds me of him and I can listen to this song and feel him with me. Thank you so much.

Playing this for my grandson Aden as he is in UC Hospital in Cincinnati fighting for his life after having a horrific motorcycle accident. He knows every word to this song and would always sing along.
Just goes to show, you don’t have to water down your lyrics and sell your soul in order to garner attention. Artists like this are a breath of much needed fresh air compared to the mainstream “country” they play on the radio
This song literally filled me with such longing that I reached out to someone whom I had turned down out of fear, and I asked him out and now we’re 5 dates in 😊
Thank you. You can do it too! What ultimately helped me was my therapist encouraging me and then taking the time to release some old fears to make way for new beginnings.
My absolute favorite song! Applause gentlemen! Love to party with y’all if you’re ever in West Central Illinois. Believe it or not us IL farmers/ranchers enjoy a good tussle, spirits & we can run across the Sangamon River for the good stuff! My buds are talented musicians & I’m sure would ❤ to jam with yall. @Jobe Shores, @Kevin Atterberry & @Doug VanNattan. @Tyler Childers
This Verse really hit me personally. "Lookin' over West Virginia Smoking Spirits on the roof She asked ain't anybody told ya That them things are bad for you I said many folks have warned me There's been several people try But up till now, there ain't been nothing That I couldn't leave behind"
Everything about this song is PERFECTION! Tyler’s fabulous voice, best songwriting ever, terrific steel guitarist, awesome bass player, great drummer! It’s simply the ENTIRE package! THICKET gets me every time!!! 🥰
Discovering artists like Tyler Childers has given me hope that real Country music is still out there. I've stopped listening to mainstream shit. Love this song.
Well my buckle makes impressions On the inside of her thigh There are little feathered Indians Where we tussled through the night If I'd known she was religious Then I wouldn't have came stoned To the house of such an angel Too fucked up to get back home Lookin' over West Virginia Smoking Spirits on the roof She asked ain't anybody told ya That them things are bad for you I said many folks have warned me There's been several people try But up till now, there ain't been nothing That I couldn't leave behind Hold me close my dear Sing your whispering song Softly in my ear And I will sing along Honey, tell me how your love runs true And how I can always count on you To be there when the bullets fly I'd run across a river just to hold you tonight Well my heart is sweating bullets From the circles it has raced Like a little feathered indian Callin' out the clouds for rain I'd go runnin' through the thicket I'd go careless through the thorns Just to hold her for a minute Though it'd leave me wanting more Hold me close my dear Sing your whispering song Softly in my ear And I will sing along Honey tell me how your love runs true And how I can always count on you To be there when the bullets fly I'd run across a river just to hold you tonight
Thank you for taking the time to put this down. Played drums since age 7 and years in a machine shop with air hoses blowing off wet parts has made words in music oft 'not so crisp' and I understand very few of them beyond the chorus. I pick up the music parts , notewise and usually strum right along with them on my acoustic, yet I miss so much of a classic song because of it. Again, thanks and have a blessed day.
The difference between this version and the Red Barn Radio version is greatly welcomed. It’s rare I can listen to this song without tears welling up, perfectly describes the relationship I have with myself at times in my life. This version puts some pep into it and transforms it into more a positive experience
When I visited USA I loved how they had this type in music and they played so effortlessly. I’m rediscovering this type of blissful music with deep poetic words because of Yellowstone ( Thankyou you Sheridan).

Chills just lost my nephew from a massive heart attack. We are both 64 years old . Just 3 weeks older. This person , was so special to me to have known him all my life. Such kind. And for now, the angels came and took him and my heart is so broken. Talented home builder ,wood carver. Loved lookin for special rocks crystals. See ya in heaven little brother
Today, I woke up and the snow was falling. I made my way downstairs and put on this song and just listened. As I went through the motions of the morning--washing dirty dishes, grinding coffee beans, and getting my desk ready for a stressful day--I realized that I was free, albeit just for a moment. It feels a full day later and I'm worn out and ready to hit the sack, but I can't help myself and look back and be grateful for that morning moment. Thank you, sir for the music!
To tyler, in 2018 i dropped my daughters ukulele at hardley strictly in sanfransisco and well, i heard you playing, i thought you were going o take it but i said "thats my daughters ukulele i just dropped it" you gave it back, signed it, and my daughter still plays it, she looks at you signature every time she plays, thank you tyler
I am so knocked out by the power and intent in which Tyler "delivers" a tune. The attention to the phrasing, the emphasis, the mountain sound! Brings to mind some of the old greats like Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, and Bill Monroe.
I heard this song for the first time last week. I've already listened to it multiple times. After just a few days, actually after just a few plays it sounded like a classic song I've been enjoying for decades. The journey of music discovery never gets old. I'll be listening to this track for decades to come.
Song hits hard for someone who grew up in farmland of KY and went the pill route now I have been sober 10 years. Anyone struggling you can make it out of that life I overdosed on H and fent 6 times before I was 21. Now i have a great job life with my family. It can be done.
If you ever see this you know who you are and this song reminds me of you and me at 17 on your dads farm riding four wheelers and sneaking off to the woods or drinking whiskey by a fire or eating grandma’s cooking on Sundays. I know 2020 has sucked and we have went down different paths but I sure hope you stay that same girl in my dreams forever
Thank you for saying so. I came to listen to this just to see if there was something I missed that would make it offensive of bigoted because I heard he doesn't play this song live anymore. Hopefully that's just a rumor as I couldn't hear anything that would cause Native Americans to revolt, but then I'm white, so what do I know.
Fell in love with Tyler recently, he pierced my soul in a time of weakness. When I listen to Tyler my bones shake. I probably listen to 30 songs of Tyler a day at this point. I wish I was there when he was coming up but I’ll be a lifelong fan, cheers bud
A little later to the party with Tyler Childers, but Lordy am I glad I got there. Such amazing jams and I'm going to be one of the lucky bastards to see him on his next tour.
Me too❤ Love his music, guitar playing&his voice!!This song is my #1 fave(Little Feather is my middle name) since the first time I heard it❤ I hope he opens London Ont Budweiser Gardens show on July 09/24 @Tyler Childers
I’m sitting down here on a Friday in Alabama while drinking rum and smoking a cigar thinking “Ol Tyler has written a dang good country song” tonight. God bless you bad...
Glad I found Tyler Childers. I passed him on to my father before he passed away. There is not a day that passes this song doesn't pull the heart strings
never heard this guy until his duet with Colter Wall on Wall's full length release of last year...what an amazing surprise Tyler is great, I just love his voice, hope to be hearing a whole lot more from him in the future...if you haven't heard it yet you've got to listen to his duet with Colter doing the old classic Fraulein, their harmonies together will give you chills...Glad I found Tyler, 10+ out of 10
This song means so much after listening to Bri. Just so heartbreaking. As many say he has helped us all through our grief. Lost my son 1/14/22. The worst. His sisters miss him. Youngest sister loves ZB and I’m taking her to see ZB on 11/30. ZB heal and get help that you need. We all make mistakes and that’s how we learn. Much love
"Well my buckle makes impressions on the inside of her thigh" is the best opening line of all time. So vivid, so raw, but still sensual. That's song writing on Jason Isbell level right there
Finally, a modern male country singer other than Chris Stapleton who's smug face I don't want to punch for making the genre look awful in the past ten years. Good work Mr. Childers. Good work.

Please, everyone, let’s take a minute to appreciate how honest this man’s music is. The lyrics are SO REAL.
ppvfd121 .... Check out my new country album on my profile
Yes, he really wrote them.
Playing this for my grandson Aden as he is in UC Hospital in Cincinnati fighting for his life after having a horrific motorcycle accident. He knows every word to this song and would always sing along.
Oh man, I hope he makes it! My thoughts are with you all.
Praying for him 🙏
Just goes to show, you don’t have to water down your lyrics and sell your soul in order to garner attention. Artists like this are a breath of much needed fresh air compared to the mainstream “country” they play on the radio
KY boy is killing this tune. He's such a rare talent!
Best opening verse in the history of country music
Sets the vibe right away. Hell yeah this is amazing
Yes
Absolutely!
I have been listening to this song on an average of 15 times a day for the past week, or so.
No idea why it still feels like my first listen.
Steven Z this is me. I can’t stop
Yeah it's got me to😎👊
Steven Z how, the song is 4 minutes long times the 15. 52 hours. 2 days. So maybe 2 weeks lol
So many good ones
I’m with ya :))
Times getting short for me glad I heard this dudes music before I'm gone
It's the little things man
@@oldgreen100 agreed!
Yeah. Same here. An old college buddy (from 40+ years ago) turned me on to this.
Are you still with us :( ????
Walk in the light til the last moment, it will help you smile in the face of the darkness
Is it just me, or when you hear this mans voice it brings tears to your eyes every friggin time???!!!
Sobbed when I first heard it
Hits the depths of my soul ❤🥰💯👏🏼
Yes man. Every time ffs. Stupid.
Damn good singer
This is my favorite Tyler Childers song. As a long time fan of Chris Knight, Tyler gives me hope for the future of our chosen music.
id prefer my country not run by uber leftists to be honest
I am with you. I would much rather have a moderate liberal.
ted yancey then by all means, don’t listen to Willie, Sturgill or Isbell....they will offend your right wing snowflake sensibilities
check out mike and the moonpies. thank me later.
check out mike and the moonpies. thank me later.
This song literally filled me with such longing that I reached out to someone whom I had turned down out of fear, and I asked him out and now we’re 5 dates in 😊
I envy your courage
Thank you. You can do it too! What ultimately helped me was my therapist encouraging me and then taking the time to release some old fears to make way for new beginnings.
That's fantastic!
Brilliant ❤
Leave him alone, demon! 😊
Man, that bass player harmonizes w/ Tyler great! And, that steel guitar...holy hell! Love this whole session.
Lets take a moment to appreciate the steel guitarist... hot damn
Indeed! I've wanted to learn to play pedal steel for awhile now but its quite challenging.
Yeah it has me feelin' some kinda way
Just adds so much. Makes this the quintessential version hands down.
I'm not a huge country music fan, but, this is going to be my wife and I's first dance song when we get married this Halloween. Shit is powerful.
Same here brother.
yeah, and he's just a singer, songwriter. great one at that. so he probably doesnt even categorize his music. like it or leave thems the best ones
I'm getting married Oct 2nd and this is our song also🥰
I love that for you two. And even better, a wedding on Halloween 🎃
Getting married the 23rd of October, not a ig country fan, and walking down to Lady May. Hes just incredibly talented
"If I known she was religious then i wouldn't have came stoned to a house of such an angel to fucked up to get back home." That gets me everytime..
My favorite Tyler Childers line ever
Word up, undeniably REAL lyrics!! What a story teller!!! I can't get away from this guy!!!
Wesley Chesnut talk about relatable
every single fucking time..
lived that line way to many times. always a good reminder
"Lookin' over West Virginia
Smoking Spirits on the roof
She asked ain't anybody told ya
That them things are bad for you
I said many folks have warned me
There's been several people try
But up till now, there ain't been nothing
That I couldn't leave behind"
For me it’s “if I’d known she was religious then I wouldn’t have came stoned to the house of such an angel to fucked up to get back home”
Same here- only I change ‘she’ to ‘he’ 😉
Can y’all imagine if the radio played only musicians as talented as tyler Childers? My god what a difference it would be. Rock on brother🤙🏻
You should check out Chris Ross and The North. Another killer underated band that plays kick ass music. No joke.
Love the bassist dancin along in the background, noddin/bobbin his head, and sometimes makin faces (2:04). So goofy and cute, havin a blast.
He’s what made me start bobbing my head 😂
Everything about this song is PERFECTION! Tyler’s fabulous voice, best songwriting ever, terrific steel guitarist, awesome bass player, great drummer! It’s simply the ENTIRE package! THICKET gets me every time!!! 🥰
"Looking over West Virginia smoking spirits on the roof." This has been my favorite TC song for several years.
mine as well
Tyler Childers- “Thicket!”
Grady Smith- 😎
Grady: “It’s meme Time”
It's true.
@@GradySmith lol that you just commented on this, also when are those Thicket shirts coming back?
Elijah Freeman he restocked them
Discovering artists like Tyler Childers has given me hope that real Country music is still out there. I've stopped listening to mainstream shit. Love this song.
Well my buckle makes impressions
On the inside of her thigh
There are little feathered Indians
Where we tussled through the night
If I'd known she was religious
Then I wouldn't have came stoned
To the house of such an angel
Too fucked up to get back home
Lookin' over West Virginia
Smoking Spirits on the roof
She asked ain't anybody told ya
That them things are bad for you
I said many folks have warned me
There's been several people try
But up till now, there ain't been nothing
That I couldn't leave behind
Hold me close my dear
Sing your whispering song
Softly in my ear
And I will sing along
Honey, tell me how your love runs true
And how I can always count on you
To be there when the bullets fly
I'd run across a river just to hold you tonight
Well my heart is sweating bullets
From the circles it has raced
Like a little feathered indian
Callin' out the clouds for rain
I'd go runnin' through the thicket
I'd go careless through the thorns
Just to hold her for a minute
Though it'd leave me wanting more
Hold me close my dear
Sing your whispering song
Softly in my ear
And I will sing along
Honey tell me how your love runs true
And how I can always count on you
To be there when the bullets fly
I'd run across a river just to hold you tonight
Tyler I’m a fan for life…your amazing…from one Kentucky boy to another god bless you
@Tyler Childers when you coming to Dallas
@@russellharradine7673 Pretty sure that was a bot.
Thank you!
Genuine dude, stays after his shows to help clean up with the grounds crew. Salt of the earth.
West Virginian here listening and loving this song 🎵
WOW--the delivery is so genuine, the lyrics so simple, the voice so pure--it's straight from a poet's soul!
Great song. Here are some lyrics for those that like to sing along.

THANK YOU ❤
A kind soul. Thank you.
Thxs home slice
This song is fabulous. Full stop. Hoping one day to see Tyler Childers over here in the UK.
Good to see modern musicians using the steel guitar. Not something you see much anymore
I believe City and Colour uses them a lot! Different sound but definitely cool. Check out his guitar center sessions with a full band!
It gets plenty of use by blues artists. Check out Robert Randolph and the family band
And for good reason, it's obsolete and sounds like shit. The other versions without it are way better
Brendan Brown no wonder this gave me City and Colour vibes!! This guy is like the country version of him! 😂
fuckin jack white, ray lamontagne, the arcs, plenty of others man, lots of steel guitars in bands these days actually
22 and just getting into Tyler Childers, i feel privileged to listen to this his voice is immaculate. Coal is is good too
In any song, any time West Virginia is mentioned. For those of us who live here, it means more than you can ever imagine! Thank you
West by God Virginia girl for life
Heard this song at random and loved it immediately. Now checking out all his songs and telling friends. Please keep it up Mr. Childers :)
Everything he writes, and plays absolutely blows me away.
I have never thought of combining them. Great EAR and TOP NOTCH guys you make us in the industry proud!
My son who is 30 turned me on to Tyler’s music, thank you Evan. I will definitely be buying the albums from Tyler’s collection 😎👍
I am so knocked out by the power and intent in which Tyler "delivers" a tune. The attention to the phrasing, the emphasis, the mountain sound! Brings to mind some of the old greats like Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, and Bill Monroe.
Tyler has a Johnny Cash intensity in his eyes in this video. This guy is simply amazing.
Thats how he is with every song. Looks past the crowd to focus. And tells funny stories between songs, very Cash like.
One of the best singers that have graced the world with music - his voice is a blanket of comfort.
I heard this song for the first time last week. I've already listened to it multiple times. After just a few days, actually after just a few plays it sounded like a classic song I've been enjoying for decades. The journey of music discovery never gets old. I'll be listening to this track for decades to come.
This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
2:29 one man one word one thousand rewinds, worth it everytime
Song hits hard for someone who grew up in farmland of KY and went the pill route now I have been sober 10 years. Anyone struggling you can make it out of that life I overdosed on H and fent 6 times before I was 21. Now i have a great job life with my family. It can be done.
Congrats random stranger, proud of you. Love, another random stranger.
Oh, dear Tyler and your group, thank you for sharing with us this beautiful and heart-felted song. You're a poet, a strange and an interesting one.
@TylerChilders-yf5xk ❤❤
As a feathered Indian, I approve of this message
This is country! Don’t change don’t let them Nashville sounds influence you.! Keep doing what you’re doing 🙌🏻🙏🏻
R.I.P. Dusty I know your singing the hell out of this song up there listening to this group will never sound the same.
Just discovered this guy - praise be to the mighty algorithm
This is the good shit
A little later to the party with Tyler Childers, but Lordy am I glad I got there. Such amazing jams and I'm going to be one of the lucky bastards to see him on his next tour.
As a native im listening to this song like👀 but I ended up loving it... also who's watching in 2024
Same! Lol
I absolutely adore this song
Me too❤ Love his music, guitar playing&his voice!!This song is my #1 fave(Little Feather is my middle name) since the first time I heard it❤ I hope he opens London Ont Budweiser Gardens show on July 09/24 @Tyler Childers
Just saw TC with the Stones in Orlando. Was hoping he would play Follow you to Virgie. He killed it with Whitehouse Road and House Fire though.
I'm still like 👁👄👁
ain't sober yet but this young man got me through some hard times already
Me either but maybe one of these damn days
Hang in there. I made it after 40 yrs of hittin it HARD.
I’m sitting down here on a Friday in Alabama while drinking rum and smoking a cigar thinking “Ol Tyler has written a dang good country song” tonight. God bless you bad...
joshporter08 damn almost pictured it. Tennessee boy
Sitting here below Montgomery and this kicks off my Saturday night!
joshporter08 in Bama too. he's great😍
joshporter08 , he's wrote about 70+ good country songs. He's been sent here to save us from shit music the radio tries to force feed us.
joshporter08 Us good ole Florida boys love him
Glad I found Tyler Childers. I passed him on to my father before he passed away. There is not a day that passes this song doesn't pull the heart strings
This song gives me the chills, makes my heart swell, and puts a tear in my eye.
never heard this guy until his duet with Colter Wall on Wall's full length release of last year...what an amazing surprise Tyler is great, I just love his voice, hope to be hearing a whole lot more from him in the future...if you haven't heard it yet you've got to listen to his duet with Colter doing the old classic Fraulein, their harmonies together will give you chills...Glad I found Tyler, 10+ out of 10
D Mac love colter and Tyler
Colton Wall is incredible. I hear so much of Johnny Cash in his music.
You and sturgill are keeping country alive, god bless you my friend
John Carter Don’t forget about Stapleton
Laura Baires and jamey johnson, cody jinx
Check out Colter Wall too!
Colter Wall has made some damn good songs too.
Wheeler Walker Jr too!
Much love
I really wish I could show my dad this song, I bet he would have loved it
he ABSOLUTELY would’ve brother.
Childers. Good work.
Try paul cauthen "cocaine country dancing" and "holy ghost fire" live performance. Hes amazing as well. Different kind of country.
Funny you mention Chris as we all grew up in the same town Paintsville ky
Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, uncle lucius and many more. Just gotta find them unfortunately?
A few more I like are Cody Jinks and Jamey Johnson
Triston Marez is my favorite
Even being condemned... That laugh and surely a smile accompanied the ending of this take hahahahahahahahaha. Thanks y'all awesome song.
