I never really cared for Kenley but his death had a stronger impact for me than I expected. The gruesomeness of it was a preview of how dark the story would be, and how quick it was showed the unpredictability of LOTM. You cant really predict things or you’ll end up being completely blindsided by what actually happens.
I just remember being shocked that Kenley died in such a quick and brutal fashion. CF really went ham on the first volume.

He was literally used as a cannon fodder IN universe. It's just sad. His death (Alongside Old Neil's) also made me realize how easy it is to accidently make mistakes and die in the world of Lotm and how cuttlefish won't let any opportunity go to rip my heart out.

Not really related to Kenley White, but I just recently finished Lord of the Mysteries and just.. WOW! I can't believe it's finally over! Lord of the Mysteries has been a journey I'm incredibly glad I took. Having such a fitting ending for a story and it's characters that I grew to love is a massive relief while not being that undeserved "and they lived happily ever after" or "and then they all died, the end". I'd have to say my favorite moments of the ending, and some endings for other characters a bit before the endings, for example, was when Klein finally was able to return home to china, he realized that he missed the tarot club, so he brought them back with him, the final chapter with Klein, Audrey, and Leonard together at Klein's apartment in China made me incredibly happy! The chapters beforehand when Klein revived Old Neil's wife and Neil and his wife finally lived together again, and when Dunn and Daly finally quit their dangerous job and started dating! When Emperor Roselle(THE GOAT!) returned as a sequence 0 and helped the Forsaken Land of the Gods settle into their new world, making Colin and Lovia his blessed, I felt like they truly deserved the happy ending they worked for throughout the entirety of the story! When Trissy and that prince got over their similarities and accepted themselves and then asked permission from their King George(the prince's father) to get married! I don't know what happened but I think the epilogue showed that they had kids, so I think so! Anyways, the ending for LOTM was so beautiful, I love it! I can't even give this series a 9/11! I'm giving Lord of the Mysteries a 100/100! Praise be to Mr.Fool, who was helping Klein along the entire journey!

I think actually not knowing Kenley and not having fleshed out his character made his death all the more shocking to me.
As a result, I never forgot Kenley's name, even without thinking about the ramifications of 0-08 and how it connected to Dunn's death.
Because it seemed to convey that---death is a thing will just happen. Yes, this guy really died. And even though Klein didn't have a strong connection with him, this impacted the rest of the team in a deep way. It's like someone telling you their friend died from COVID, and you had seen the friend once or twice in the distance. Then you go "oh shit", COVID is real. (As an example.) In this case, it's "Oh shit, the Beyonder world is dangerous and people do really die in this line of work---it's not just statistics Dunn gave out at the job offer, it's real." Whereas if Klein had a strong emotional connection with Kenley and we knew everything about him (which wouldn't really make sense in this coworking environment anyway---even with Leonard, Klein was pretty distant), the sense of personal tragedy would usurp the cooler understanding of the reality of the situation being confirmed this way.
Especially because Kenley died to what could be attributed to as a simple mistake with the mirror---the very artifact they brought to protect them killed him.
And fictionally/narratively, as a reader, if the first death would be overplayed, then honestly I think many desensitized readers would just clock out, because this is what so many narratives do these days, just trump up each death or fake death, to the point we don't really believe them anymore.
The almost depersonalization of the death, while leaving so much unknown about Kenley, led me to actually consider his death more seriously and cause it to feel real, just like how irl we hear news of death, a left behind family or network of people, and consider the impact this death has been left behind. It can be a footnote in your personal life, but in your personal life you can still understand the deep meaning and ramifications.
Anyway, thanks for the video. Definitely brews up more thoughts.

tl;dr: I feel like it's a case of less is more. And the little details like playing the guitar and telling stories, which were only softly and briefly touched on, lets our minds flesh out the rest, like your mind really did here.

Also the old man that helps klein in east backlund. The second time this novel hit me hard was during the haze where that old man and the single mother and her child that sherlock solves an investigation for.

Lmaooo Kenley??? Really, haha Kenley bro I did not expect a video on Kenley of all people. Of the nighthawks Frye was definitely my favourite of the bunch (not counting Dunn, Leonard & Old Neil as they were directly involved with klein most of the time)

Also Madame Sharon is not Sharron, the picture you used for her is of Sharron who is introduced at a later date in the novel. Don't know if this was intentional or a blunder but just fyi, still a great video & keep up the good work.
