Ha, never knew this was a Charlie Cravens pattern! Met a guy 3 years ago on a random lake in Utah who was using these. Crazy day of catching multiple 20+ inch tiger trout. I've always thought that guy had created the articulated damselfly nymph. No surprise it was actually Charlie lol.

such a brilliant and simple design. Could be more complicated in a million different ways- but that's not the point. 2 materials and super effective. Well done!

Super tie Charlie! Root here, been a minute. Charlie done taught me this pattern when I started tying circa 1999. Watched my deaf newbie bud land the largest male brown I have ever touched on that exact size 14! Still have some in my box today. Pure gold memory. That being said, never trust a backwards tier...

I started tying essentially that pattern in roughly 1987 .... went w mono eyes so it stayed on top more and added legs but the articulated part was identical. Oh , and pretty darn effective

I like this fly and I’m heading to my table in a couple minutes to knock out a few. I did notice for the first time on your technique in the way you start the thread and are, well, tagless! It never donned on me to do this a I wonder just how much I’ve wasted in throwing out tag ends over the past 2 years.

It's there a name for just the back half like at 2:45 ? That seems like it would be a great nymph you could tie a ton of in different colors really quickly!

Do the bead chain eyes not weigh enough to invert the hook and cause the wingcase to ride on the bottom? Fly looks awesome. I'm always looking for tasty little stillwater bugs!

No, they don’t weigh much at all so it rides point down. Just enough weight to “blip” into the water and bounce the head end on the retrieve.

Did you feature this in a book, Charlie? I tied this before, but with a lighter thread rib through the abdomen. I always called it "Charlie's damsel nymph", so I'm relatively certain it's your pattern.
