Enjoyed the video! Learned a few tips that I'll be employing the next time I tie up some copper John's. I've been using partridge for the legs but will be going with Coq de Leon from here on out. Thanks for sharing!
HI from Rolla MO 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes. Thanks for your time and knowledge of fly tying. You and I have the same vise mine is serial number 28.. I have more videos than my wife thinks is needed but then I think she has more cooking pans than she needs to have. I've been tying for 65years and really appreciate your time and knowledge of tying.. thanks again and good health for you and your's.🎣🤠 Dave Hughes
I started fly fishing in (23) and started tying about 3 weeks later in the 1st week of may. I like your videos and you don't want people asking questions? So how do I learn if I don't understand? I guess you have a secret broken feather magnet off screen which is how you separate them so fast huh??? Oops sorry forgot you like it QUIET 🤫🤐. Go let your wire spool unravel Mr pro....... Thanks for the clip sir, I'm definitely learning a lot from your tips..... like not letting spools unravel. Keep them coming
John Barr is definitely an innovative tyer. Great tutorial, Charlie. ...and thanks for sharing that "pro tip" of keeping those spooled materials loose. That'll come in handy the next time I want to deal with a bird's nest!
Definitely one I love. Great fly tying. Watch you do the same fly on both channels. I know but your so good at it it is easy to watch and listen to you!!!
Charlie, you keep me in stitches with your commentary, especially about keeping your wire all mangled…was LMAO 😂, appreciate your teaching us beginner tier’s and keeping is full of laughter
Facts he's a funny guy. I only just came upon his page maybe 2 weeks ago but Charlie is definitely in my top 3 favs along with Davie mcphail and Barry Clark. Killer teachers to follow
I’ve seen your method for biots and it’s ingenious, however I seem to struggle mastering it. My main issue is trying to tilt them a quarter turn towards me and keep them oriented with each other. With them sitting on top it’s good as soon as I tilt them towards me a 1/4 turn they seem to want to twist on the contact point where they are not parallel to each other, if that makes sense. Any tips?
I always struggled with setting the biots. Many of the patterns have them stacked one on top of the other and it's so hard to get them splayed properly. Half my time on the fly would be spent just fussing with them. I like your method, I think you demonstrated it on a previous tie. I tied up a couple of thin mints and then on the best one forgot to add the tinsel. I did one with Orange/Chartreuse/Yellow with chartreuse body and chartreuse grizzly hackle. I figure the trout might attack it just to drive it away. I always wondered where the biots actually were on the goose/turkey.
Always enjoy your “Pro Tips”, so I took yours about keeping your wire spools 🧵 unwound…and your right, a real challenge 😅, but now I am more like Charlie! 😂
I’ve noticed black thin skin or thin skin in general has a side that is fluorescent and a side that isn’t. Which side to you recommend facing up. Or does it even make a difference? Love your videos! Big fan!
@@CharliesFlyBox I have used turkey tail and or pheasant tail fibers on mine because the UV resin has something to grab hold of and does not pop off as it will some times do with thin skin and other synthetics.
I am a bit visually impaired. If you tied against a White background that gave a better contrast and help tyers like me to see what you are doing, better. Black thread, black background and dark brown biots are a bit tough.
Excellent! The best instructional video on tying Copper Johns. Thanks CC!
I appreciate anyone who uses the word skosh 😊

I had an Aaahaa...when you brought the flash over the wing case...mayflied that thing right up. Nice.

I particularly liked the bit about adding frustration lol.
i had no idea how important adding frustration was. you just earned a subscriber!
You are the Jedi Master of fly tying. Thank you for the videos, learn so much from each one.

All talented guys and glad you found Charlie; I can listen to him all day…Tight Lines!
Great looking
Oh that is the best pro tip. You won't see that one on a Tight Lines production!
Is there a material list available for this fly

New to fly tying. Had some struggles had some success made progress etc etc but these damn biots have me ripping my hair out lol
Fantastic video as usual! What color Coq de Leon do you use?
Thanks for the Pro tip, Charlie, but that’s one of the few things I manage on my own without any help…😜
Hi Charlie what utc wire size do you use for different size hooks?
any idea on the weight? looking for a heavy fly for deep fast water

They come from the primary feathers on the wing. When they sell them as just biots they split the quill to make the strip we're all familiar with.

What UV light do you use?
@@WVRick I use the Solarez resonator lamp with the rechargeable battery

Like always, great tying! One question what material would you use to replace the thin skin?
Scud back works pretty well too.

Is there a guide or rule of thumb for determining which size wire to use on a size of hook/fly size?
Small on 18-20, brassie for 14-16, medium for 12
@@CharliesFlyBox THANKS! Got to go make a note of this.
Bruh, dark materials, on a dark background...c'mon man 🙃
Bruh. Shhhh
