Eeeeeee Rover Story! I hope you love it. I think part of the read what you own challenge is just taking a moment to think about your purchasing and then if you decide that buying books just brings you so much joy then that’s great. Make the challenge work for you and no shame at all. Great haul and I also want to swamp lady book! Sounds amazing. The Fisherman is so good!
yes, I def. think the challenge has slowed me down a bit with impulse buying, and it still feels like a "challenge" to make sure I am focusing on books I owned previously. It has made me more AWARE, and I like that. How can you go wrong with a swamp lump??!
um, that was a pile of damn well deserved! so many of those are going on my wishlist..especially ‘someone you can build a nest in’. love weird stuff! if buddy reading helps you get books read i’m always up for buddy reading. also, love your shelves so much!
doesn't someone you can build a nest in sound so wonderfully off-the-wall? I'm def. down to buddy read if you are into a book you see I have. I find it helps me focus more on the longer/more intimidating reads

that's good to hear! I remember everyone trashing it when it came out, so I am going in with little expectations. Sometimes that can make or break the reading experience - having high expectations

Reading books and collecting books are two separate hobbies. If something brings you joy then do it! I really enjoyed The Fisherman and I hope you do too 🎣

I LOVE your Coraline! ❤ I’ve wanted a hardcover copy for awhile. My current copy is a paperback. I think A Rover’s Story is AMAZING. I read it last year for Middle Grade March. Beloved is also AMAZING but sad. 😢 Nice book haul, Kristine! 📚 No shame in shopping for books. 🥰

I’ve been wanting to read You’d Look Better as a Ghost. It sounds so fun! I love Greek mythology retelling too. Carrie is my favorite SK book and I still don’t have the 50th anniversary edition. It’s gorgeous! Great haul!

Not many seem to like nothing but blackened teeth...but figured it was worth a shot since I found it for free. I've been trying not to pay attention to new releases too much, so I hadn't heard about someone you can build a nest in. It was fun to just "find" with no knowledge

I'm in the minority, but I actually enjoyed Nothing but Blackened Teeth. I took the time to look up definitions of unfamiliar words and did some research into Japanese folklore, which helped me appreciate the book more. My Soul to Keep is in my TBR cart. I love Tananarive Due! Medusa's Sisters sounds so intriguing. I am obsessed with Medusa. I got my 50th anniversary edition of Carrie from Blackwell's, too. It looks so beautiful on the shelf. I loved both the Poor Things book and movie, and I think you'll enjoy the book, too, since you enjoyed the movie. Gothikana -- I bought it for the beauty, too. I ended up giving it three stars purely for the illustrations and the quotes from classic Gothic texts. The Fisherman is my favorite book. I'm nervous for you to read it. What if you don't like it😆 Great haul, and happy reading!
When I read the salt grows heavy, I had to look up a lot of words there as well. I thought it was pretentious at first, but then it grew on me. Maybe I will soooorta enjoy Gothikana if I go in thinking it will be shite? It was just too tempting in person to pass up
I really want that Carrie book! I kind of preferred the Poor Things movie to the book...
I loved the movie, so it would be hard to beat that. Worth a read though!
I fully support your book shopping. I recently read Someone You Can Build A Nest In & The Familiar. I’m interested in hearing what you think about them. Blackwells is dangerous. Ship of Magic has been on my tbr pile for so long. One day.. JOE ABERCROMBIE?! He’s my all time favorite haha. I love everything he does. I’m slowly savoring the 10 books in the world of The First Law. Be prepared for character over plot when you start that book. He’s written some of my all time favorite characters. I hope you love it!
I'm all about character, so I hope I love Joe Ambercrombie as much as you do! I didn't realize he was your fave. Build a nest sounds so fucking weird that I had to get it. I want to read ALLLL the things and I'm just too slow

I'm right there with you for the Greek mythology retellings 😂 the covers are usually just too pretty to pass up too.
Maybe a controversial opinion, but the movie cover for poor things is the ONLY book where I think the movie cover is better than the original 🫢
hahaa, I can see not liking the original cover of Poor things. I love greek retellings, but it has been awhile since I've actually read one. I'm always getting swept up in readathons/book clubs/etc
