Hey! Long time no see! I had the same experience with House of Leaves, but I didn't even make it through the first chapter. I think I tried to read it at a really bad time, which was not too long after my Dad passed. I do plan to give it a second go, but I don't know when. Take care!

Great Tag Kritz! I Was A Teenage Slasher sounds like a fun Halloween read. Maggie's Grave is my book of the year so far, also blown away and cannot wait to read more from this author. I loved the feisty old woman from The Haar, such an awesome character. Would you like to buddy read a Sodergren book with me? Butcher & Blackbird sounds interesting, I don't read romance but two serial killers...perhaps. 🤔 The Honey Witch is so gorgeous. House Of Leaves also intimidates the hell out of me. I am moving from TBRs to Pile of Possibilities, which gives me much needed space to mood read. I need to re-read The Blade Itself as an older, wiser 😂 man.

Considering how slow typing on an e-ink reader usually feels I'm excited to try out this pen feature. I heard that you can only sync one library at a time between the kobo and libby? I've never transferred books from the library manually before. Is it pretty simple?

I just started My Heart is a Chainsaw. It has been on my TBR for a while, but I saw that he is coming to LA for an appearance this month, so I figured I better start it. For dark fantasy, I’ve been hearing people recommend Jay Kristoff’s Empire of the Vampire. I haven’t read it myself yet, but the premise sounds interesting.

50/72 is a great ratio! How could your fictional crush not be Toby No-Bone? House of Leaves… parts of the book was 5 stars for me and other parts were 1 or 2 stars. I definitely loathed a good bit of that book 😂 Joe Abercrombie is so so good. He’s my favorite author. I’ve heard great things about Robin Hobb’s character work as well. I love your fall shirt 🦇 👻 🍂

I love your version of the Read What You Own Challenge. I was about the same--I got to 23, I think, and ended up buying about 8. Not good. So I may back down and instead of reading 100 I own before I can buy one, realize I need a steam release valve. I'm also (like everyone) under a lot of stress--Mom in hospice, new home, new life, health challenges--and sometimes I need the serotonin hit of a new book! You get it.

Will the White Kobo ever discolor? I love the white color, as it doesn't show smudges as easily as the black bezels -- but the discoloration (yellowing) concern exists.

The Honey Witch book is so pretty! 🍯 If you find you enjoy Sherlock Holmes, there is a book called Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell. Its Hellraiser meets Holmes. I plan on reading that one soon. I really liked Reb Rabbit. It had heart and was just a fun read. Death in Her Hands is definitely an odd one. I like her writing. Yay for buying books! 📚

Great Haul Kritz! Some seriously awesome covers, especially Dreadful. Cuckoo sounds weird and interesting. The Honey Witch is frikken gorgeous! I plan to read The Cotton Candy Massacre for Halloween, on my kindle. Beautiful edition of Sacrament, I love Barker but that is probably my least favorite book. Books of Blood is awesome! I have heard that Red Rabbit is really good.

I’ve heard a lot of things about it and I need to know if it’s a skip or not for me. I just read my first Ottessa book (Rest and Relaxation) and I really liked it! I’m in my weird girl lit fic era and it’s nice to know I have some range beyond just horror haha.

I'll be straight forward, this is not the best review, neither is it the worse. It's in the middle.

I've read both LGPatA and TGND. I found LGP to be more intense. I think LGP is more close to The Lord of the Flies. I see LGP as a allegory warning on how easy people (both kids and adults) can go down a slippery slope to what seems an expedient solution to a problem. I was a teenager in the 70s and yes, thinking was different then on some topics. We saw news reports on the death counts on both sides (like it was a sports game score) of the Vietnam War and saw film footage on the expedited solutions like carpet bombing, napalm, and dusting with highly toxic agent orange. Win at all costs no matter how horrific. I see this book as being somewhat of an allegory of that. That is why books like this could be important as there are even efforts now to return to older gender roles. Also I think Johnson stayed to the writing mantra of "describe only, don't explain." I've thought about this book and think some readers miss what's going on between the lines, under the surface, etc. But I can't explain without giving away spoilers.

I bet the book is way better than show.
