    I like Brad Holmes approach “don’t get go for position needs in the draft just get the best overall player available then plug the holes in free agency”
    I’m going to be excited for every player they draft. As a lions fan I know better than to doubt Brad Holmes at this point

I very much hope you do something like this again before the draft begins. I am pleased that my decision to subscribe a few months ago turned out to be one of my best in the realm of Subs. I know it's a long shot, but I hope everyone overlooks Mike Sainristil and we steal him late somehow as well. I know if we draft Mckinstry at 29 that's unlikely but still, a man can dream lol.

    My only quibble with any of this is talking about needs. Bread Holmes has made it pretty clear that when it comes to the draft, he is sticking to his big board, period. I would not be shocked at all to see him take a guy like Graham Barton or a wide receiver at 29, if that guy is the top guy in their board. Holmes has said that his strategy is to fill needs in free agency and the draft is for bringing in the best football players they can get, regardless of position.

    • @JonAlienAbides
      @JonAlienAbides 2 місяці тому

      This comment is spot on. Holmes doesn't draft for need, at least not so far. Maybe the team is settling to the point where he can but I highly doubt it.

    he is the only GM in my lifetime that I can never predict a pick. He will always go best player available and us being fans and not knowing the best player available in depth, we will never know truly what he is thinking. my biggest example of that is taking Hutchinson at two and then trading up to the middle of the first round to draft Jameson Williams. Who predicted that? Nobody. I do believe we need an edge opposite Aiden, that is consistent and an every down player against the run and the pass. also a talented corner to develop would be very nice as well. Same with a wide receiver to pair with Jameson and Saint. our offensive line is aging as well so getting a head start on building that for the future and keeping it a strength wouldn’t hurt.

    Great work. I heard you as a guest on another pod cast and was like, “hey, that’s my guy!!!”
    I agree with the positions and your take on DB. If you don’t get a top 4-5 CB the level really seems to drop. JPJ, or another interior OL would be nice early. It’s strange to trust the leadership - BUT WE DO !!!

  • @brianmorski4299

    I think that oline wont be addressed in the first round because it is too much of a playing time threat to GG and Zeitler. Similarly i dont think they are going corner or WR unless one of the top fee guys are left at thise positions (& Brad agrees with the consensus scouting). I also think that there are some good big DEs in rounda 2 & 3 which reduces the chances we reach for Darius Robinson in the 1st.
    I think there are lots of great plasyers in this draft but im pretty sute Brad is tryimg to trade back for more roind 2, 3, & 4 picks this year. Love your work, thanks for doing it.

    Love your Lions coverage. Noticed the Lions look very similar to the Saints...Thunder and lightning backs. Offense powered by a "Crown Jewel" O-line group of 1st round pro-bowl caliber players...That being said, Ragnow playing on one foot is all we have left on the interior...Unlike any other position, dependable starting offensive linemen are only found in the draft. I feel like It's wishful thinking to believe they aren't looking hard at Kingsley Suamatala. Unless JPJ falls.(highly unlikely}

    My dream picks. T’Vondre Sweat, Payton Wilson, Max Melton, Roman Wilson (think he would be a great compliment to AMSB). I am not a fan of Kool-aid. I also am not a Chop fan (at 29). DJ James later on. Adonai Mitchell is another. Sanristil is better on tape than paper but I wouldn’t reach for him. Payton Wilson would make our LB corps great for a decade.

    Top picks for me at 29 or in a trade up senario: Koolaid, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Jared Verse, Liatu Latu, or Taliese Fuaga. @61: kneeland, edgerrin cooper, Braden Fiske, cooper Bebe, Xavier legette, or Christian Haynes. @73: anyone of theses guys that drops and then starting to look into Roman Wilson, Jermaine Burton(if Holmes does this is trust it), Jeremiah Trotter, Dominic Puni, but I see this as a great place to trade back to pick up a 4th.
    Later round targets that are my favorites are Ben Sinnot-I think he is the best blocking tight end this draft and has some ball skills. Braelon Allen-I would be insanely excited to see him in a Cabinda Role TE/HB/RB5 he’s been a RB so he has some experience already with routes/catching, and I think he would be unstoppable with out Oline at the goal line.😅 this is my hot take though.
    Others: Luke McCaffery, Drake Nugent, Javon Foster, Xavier Thomas, and Theo Johnson..

    Coach, not sure how I feel about McKinstry. Walter Football has major issues with his work ethic and fitness level. He received a quote from an NFC Director of College Scouting noting that "His body is odd, like a 40-year old man who works out at the YMCA, and he is a super lazy practice player". Walter Football was ahead of the curve when pointing out issues with Zach Wilson and Jalen Carter in their respective draft processes.

  • @kylebrandt8344
    @kylebrandt8344 2 місяці тому +2

    There are no true holes on this Lions roster. The only starting spots that could be pushed by a rookie is WR-X, TE2, DE. Marcus Davenport at big DE and Mattheu Betts at SAM could be the Romeo and Julian Okwara replacements already on the roster, but if a DE or EDGE is on the board it’s a consideration. OL depth could be a need depending on what the Lions think of Sorsdal and Awosika. I think C depth is needed due to Ragnow’s health. Additionally, do they resign Decker, if no, OT will be a need in future years. Similarly CB has lots of contenders to start and be solid in Charlton Davis, Amik Robertson, and Emmanuel Moseley, but all are on short term contracts. It seems that Holmes prefers veterans at this spot since development can take a while. Deep WR class and with DPJ on the roster, this pick could come at any time. With the departure of Brock Wright I think that role is filled later in the draft. Lastly S depth is a need with CJGJ, Walker, and Harris all leaving, but could be filled in late FA with a deep veteran market.

    The thought was, after the rookies are drafted, go through the top 24 skill position players QB/RB/WR/TE in order they were drafted and give your opinion on how their fit to schemes, the typical profile. Not say you do this all year long, perhaps just a special addition this time of year.

    the lions roster is still loaded. honestly i don't think they need more pieces to be competitive with the best teams in the league it's just a coaching philosophy issue where it seems like they operate more on extremes rather than on consistency (and in big games you need more consistency).
    (also, personally i think all they really need is one great player on the D line to take them to the next level. they need a chris jones type player who can just be disruptive every play from the interior.)

      @@blueisback3683Dude you are arguing with someone way above your pay grade. I say this in the most respectful way, but what are you even talking about?

      Which is why we could have gotten a great WR in FA.

    I think the Lions going Corner again in the draft or Edge in the first round. Still need a guard or a up and coming tackle.

    I’m betting that Holmes trades back. Because he’ll still have number one grades sitting there in the second.
    The only starter job I
    see is an X, the rest are backups who will be coached up over the year. I’m thinking the biggest whole they have is backup Rt , Sewells cousin would be good here and in the interim he can learn RG. There are a lot of Xs out there. Get one who can do the dirty work and get YAC. Get that mauler who projects to C/G then get that corner who needs some work. I’m sorry but I don’t see any DEs except the DE Mo from Penn in the later rounds. OT, X,G/C,CB, DE.
