Your film study will show just how important he's to our office and how necessary he will be to us winning the superbowl!

  • @daveconleyportfolio5192

Thanks, Coach. People talk about Goff being a conservative game manager, but the tight-window throws he makes routinely would bring a lump to the throat of many QBs with stronger arms. He may not be a gunslinger, but he is a sharpshooter.

    • @donpietruk1517
      @donpietruk1517 23 дні тому

The weak arm strength is largely a myth. He can easily do 60 yard throws. Look at the stats of where his downfield throws rate among other QB's in terms of length of actual throws, not just total YAC.

Jared Goff is not fleet of foot. If you want a scrambler who can throw on the run, you will hate Jared Goff as your QB. If you want a QB who reads the defense, checks out of bad plays and can throw the ball into tight windows accurately and on time, Jared is your man. He doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he can hit every throw on time and in stride. I loved Stafford, but he too had some limitations. Jared is what the Lions need right now and he is getting the job done. Go Lions!

Coach appreciate your own sincere humility matched with class and dare I state "grace" in a macho football setting; i.e. you are not boring to listen to sir!
I am learning - twofold to be exact. The half field read is a nice discovery for me and helps me to understand why more "superior" DC such as Coach AG prefer man coverage to Zone D. 😮😊 And maybe one day someone such as yourself will explain the "Tampa 2" defensive scheme to me ...a football guru like yourself as you have explained the half field read in this video.
The other part of my twofold idea is the explaination of the under center concept of play action vs. the shot gun or pistol formation. Incidentally a wrinkle in these opposing concepts would be Coach Marv Levy and QB Jim Kelly in Buffalo utilizing the fake snap to the QB off the shot gun and RB Thurman taking the low angled snap from center and crossing the formation for a significant gain back in the Bills great days in the 1990s.
Obviously under center Goff is turning his back on the D and hiding the ball as long as possible coupled with the counter step by the RB to help freeze the LBs and SS who are playing run first. In high school we used a spilt wing behind the QB with both backs crossing in opposing angles at the line of scrimmage across the vertical midline to help freeze the 2nd level of D ...or am I wrong in concept? 😅
As to Brock Wright's reception in the Tampa Divisional Round playoff game ...yes, it was the same play the Lions used against the Jets where Brock Wright scored in 2022. I believe even the TV commentators mentioned that as well since it looks so spectacular with a large TE "outsmarting" an entire defensive backfield.
Looking forward to learning more with more future videos.
Thank you for your time Sir!

The difference is Gibbs and Montgomery can go to the house. Swift never got past the first tackler, ever. Look at the tight formations. This is from Sean McVay's playbook. The idea is to stretch the field sideline to sideline giving speedy RBs & WRs more room. Lions run an exotic Dan Campbell/BJ run game including jumbo packages which will be very scary this year with Manu and Mahogany in the mix.

Bears fans on the other hand, have nothing to talk about. Sure, you went out and grabbed the biggest names you could because your coaches are on the hot seat. But you still haven't done anything. Thank you so much for doing these. Football nerds like us love this stuff. The Lions offense is a well-oiled machine with all the parts working so well together. I need to preface this by first saying I like goff, goff is a top 10 QB, goff deserved the money he got paid.
BUT; the reason some fans dont like him is very easily demonstrated by a chart that has been floating around recently.
If you Google "2023 qbr clean vs pressured" you'll see a a graph that's triangular shaped, with goff at the bottom.
The chart shows that Goff had the highest passer rating for clean pockets among the 39 qualifying QBs.
However golf was only 28th/39 while under pressure.
When pressure gets to Goff, he falls off harder than every other quarterback in the NFL.
That's why some people hate him. ( that and he's about as mobile as a lanky giraffe)
But it also demonstrates, that he's a really effing good quarterback when protected. So as long as the O-line stays healthy the Lions can do anything.
    Go Goff Go!

Hey I used to be a vice President of sales and customer service for a zillion years, and I thought I'd ask you about something or at least mention something that might be interesting to you or hopefully you don't find it distasteful. I noticed when you make a point a lot of points throughout the show and they're really good points too, but you always seem to feel necessary to apologize for yourself for many of the good points that you make. Almost to a fault. It's as if you're saying something hurtful to someone. I think your show would be more enjoyable with a few less disclaimers, Every time you make or tell of an important thought, I would think that just being a little less on the obsequious side, would be a good thing I know I have the habit myself. I think you're a fantastic host and you really, really do address your audience very well. Just a thought my friend, that's all.

So I'm a diehard lifetime Lions fan of over 30 years now ( since I was about 9 years old) - I understand football well and I do think Goff is better than a game manager or average pocket centric QB. I do have mixed feelings on him, but half of that has to do with how the team is built and Campbell prefers to control the game. First is really obvious. He has almost no scrambling or rushing ability. I do believe he would probably still struggle as a passer without a slot like Amon-Ra who never drops a pass and is the perfect WR for what Goff "likes to do" - as well as that offensive line. He is protected better than any QB in the league. Which you say.. so why the issue then? If we have that setup for him to succeed? Well, the team is obviously set up to run the football and keep the time of possession skewed heavily in their favor, also keeping the defense fresh.. they use 4 downs so often for half this reason even. Without someone like Mike Evans on the outside at WR1 possession X wideout, and Goff not willing to throw passes over 20 yards through the air our generally outside the hash marks (my other main issue with him limiting the offense being more effective) - without this receiver and Waymo left to get 3 targets a game as the fastest WR in the league - without having a rush capable QB you are allowing teams to shrink the field and load up on the run (particularly in the flats with no worry about Goff even scrambling) as well as loading the box edges with zone coverages that take your mismatches like Gibbs speed and elusiveness completely away unless he breaks normally for sure tackles.. all this made worse by the lack of a field goal kicker capable of accuracy over 40 yards and completely not an option over 50.. that puts the whole game on offensive line dominance unless someone breaks a play wide open or the defense produces turnovers on limited repetition. That's death by 1000 cuts when you are taking your whole concept and handcuffing it with a QB that only operates inside a circle about 20 yards in diameter.. Laporta, Gibbs and Waymo getting stronger and more nuanced with slant and slot type plays will make that more controlled chaos and allow the Lions to confuse more defenses off the snap.. but if they're keeping Goff long term they need to work on his willingness to pass over Waymos shoulder and outside the hash marks over 15 yards in tight windows before the single high or FS in general can make it over, and his accuracy on passes over 25 yards hitting targets in stride when Waymo burns the whole field over the top - and particularly if this doesn't happen, but maybe even if it does.. they should be looking for a possession X WR1 capable of pulling the best CB1 all game long. Then they have to choose who to double and almost ensures entirely that with their offensive line that it's not worth it to try to blitz on most plays. Otherwise they're a Ragnow and Sewell injury away from having no room to operate and will need hero play to win games..which always leads to injuries sooner than later. Ben Johnson won't be there forever. Unless Hooker is way better than anyone outside the organization really knows.. I'm at a loss on why they didn't try to bring in Fields to compete with Hendon and have 2 rushing QBs to mix in or compete as similar players when Goff isn't available.. or if they give reps out in a plan to make this adjustment and trade Goff eventually anyway. Think about it though.. if you swap out Goff with Lamar and don't change a other player on offense - what does that look like with the current design. Looks like a Superbowl powerhouse nightmare to me. Looks like 31 team psychologists telling defensive coordinators weekly anytime there's a Lions game on the forecast ("they can't eat your kneecaps here" " you're in a safe space.. so breathe") as they 💨 another 6 days of the feeling of ptsd from waking nightmares of 52 six hundred pound blood thirsty Lions flash Honolulu blue dominations scapes across their psyche in hair raising violence on 🎥 cinematic repeat with Stephen A sounds of "oh the horror" ringing in their subconscious
This is my issue with Goff
