Wild song, cool band! Fun fact: Primus developed the catchphrase "Primus sucks" in their early years. The phrase originated when fans would compliment the band, and bassist and vocalist Les Claypool would respond, "Nah, we suck". The band then began introducing themselves on stage as "We're Primus, and we suck", and fans began to adopt the phrase as a sign of affection. Audiences would chant the phrase before the show and as a request for an encore. The band eventually embraced the phrase and began selling t-shirts with it printed on them. Claypool has said that he considers it a compliment when fans tell him the band sucks. ✌️
This band does the opening song for South Park, also one of my best friend’s gf found out about 15 years ago she had a half brother, turned out he was a drummer for them back in the early days
Primus are amazing musicians who don't take themselves too seriously..their songs are all a little bizarre and their videos are definitely alot bizarre but they have a huge following and are respected by everyone in the industry..Check out Wynnonnas Big Brown Beaver, My Name is Mud and Jerry was a Racecar Driver next! They are a rabbit hole worth going down
"I don't know what the video would be for this, but I guess that's about right" is the realest thing ever said about this video. this guys are on their own plane of existence.
Primus sucks! (If you know, you know that's not an insult lol) Lol God I love Primus, from the first couple seconds of the first song I heard which was My name is Mud, then Wynonas big brown beaver was the very next song I was introduced to, they're just so original and incredible. Les Claypool is a genius bassist in a league of his own. Just incredible
Nah. Les has actually refuted this. It was because his style was completely different from Metallica's. Plus, he's more of a lead bassist anyways. Also, at the time, Les wasn't really well-versed in thrash at all.
I saw Primus live four times and I did not know what he said. He sang so fast and this is right around when the internet got launched. The early 2000’s it took a decade for me to decipher what he said.
Imagine your favorite bassist... imagine asking him if he has heard of Les Claypool... he says "yes" quietly... ask him if he can play 3 primus songs... watch him walk away
My favorite bassists apart from Les Claypool, could easily play most of his catalogue, not to take away from him in any way, but there's a lot of other great musicians out there. Explore my friend 🤘 I got Jerry was a Racecar Driver on my 6 string, Southbound Pachyderm, and Too Many Puppies, and Here Come the Bastards under my belt when I was between 17 and 19, Is It Luck was another story 😂🤘🤘 Check out Abraham Laboriel, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten, if you haven't already 🤌
Primus is something else they really are a great band. He does Les Claypool the singer he does do a lot of songs for he's telling you a story. His bass playing is beyond belief. It gets ahold of you his bass playing, to say the least ! Check out their song "John the Fisherman" !
Once upon a time in Hong Kong, I took a gang from a House Music party back to my apartment to continue, and we ended up putting on the Primus DVD, and after a few initial 'whats this'.... the whole gang became massive Primus fans. Even years later I would hear the odd 'Primus' shouted at me when in a club or bar.
JMBOY, you just experienced Les Claypool, the most talented Bassist on the Planet! He is so talented that He tried out to be Metallica`s Bassist after the Death of Cliif Burton and they told him that He was too good! "Shake Hands with Beef" "My Name is Mud" "Southbound Pachyderm" "Wynonas Big Brown Beaver" and "Frizze Fry" are serious Bangers from Primus! Dude, take the DIVE....Primus ROCKS. Les also has Collab`s with John Lennons son Sean, they are called "The Claypool Lennon Delirium...worth a good look!
i saw PRIMUS on the tour where their 2nd set was the full album of FAREWELL TO KINGS by RUSH-it was amazing they even had dbl neck bass/guitar and wore kimonos not to mention i saw them open for ANTHRAX and PUBLIC ENEMY on the BRING THE NOISE tour back in the day
Got punched in the solar plexus, in the mosh pit, by a giant corn-fed mule of a man, during a Primus show back in the summer of '93. Wasn't even mad. I knew where I was.
if you really want to get this song you've got to watch a live recording at a concert or music festival. the crowds get into it almost like nothing you've ever seen. sooooooooo good.
It's a song all right, you nailed the head on that one. Primus does lots of songs like this. Or rather, not like this. The bassist is Les Claypool, easily one of the top 5 bassists of all time. The guitarist is Larry LaLonde who actually coined the phrase "death metal", although that was when he was in another group. The gravelly voiced singer is Tom Waits who isn't in the band. Actually Claypool was a roadie for Waits' band at one point. And Tim Alexander is the drummer, though sometimes Brain Mantia fills in on some of the tracks in this period. Other great works by Primus include "Space Farm", "Over The Falls", "Southbound Pachyderm", "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver", "Coattails of a Dead Man", "Pilcher's Squad", "Mr. Krinkle", "My Name Is Mud", "The Air Is Getting Slippery", and "Shake Hands With Beef".
I like Primus, but I was 26 when this song came out and I KNEW that any man who said "say behbeh" in our first interaction was NOT a man who I wanted anything to do with romantically, lol
Primus sucks!! ❤ There's an amazing live performance of this from Bonnaroo. All of their music is like nothing else you've ever heard. Trust me. Check out Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver next. Videos will always be...interesting to say the least.

yes they suck
I've loved this since they started doing it lol just another reason in a long list to love them that much more 💜💜
I thought it was because their mascot “Skeeter” is a mosquito

Not many people can rock the shit out of a 6 string fretless bass like that
Les Claypool is bass player in a class of his own 💜💜
Saw them at red rocks this year. They're absolutely a blast to see live.

This is the chaos you get when Funk meets Punk. Legends.
What a great band! Fun fact: Les Claypool auditioned for Metallica. They told him he was too good. 🤘🏻
Les and Kirk Hammett were friends since the college 😊

Les Claypool is not human. That bass playing is unreal.
I love the way you break it down at the end. Absolutely hate when ppl don't do analysis after reactions
BRRRRROOOOOOO! 0:16 I haven't even watched the damn video yet and I'm already excited asf about how blown away you're gonna be over this shit.
I saw Primus live four times and I did not know what he said. He sang so fast and this is right around when the internet got launched. The early 2000’s it took a decade for me to decipher what he said.
This band is centered around the bass... not many groups like it. Great reaction. 😊
Primis. What a wild band.. I just watched a primis with puddles pity party singing DIOs Holy Diver and it was GLORIOUS!!!
I saw that live in DC, it was awesome.
@3:45 that bass is Insane! The mix of technics are mind blowing! Great music.
Fun fact: the old man in the video was Les Claypool's grandfather (RIP).

Les Claypool is the Bass god! There’s no one who can beat the shit out of a bass and make it sound great.
Primus is what you get when you cross the Isley Brothers with Metalica
Great reaction🤘

Yeah!!!! Wait until you hear "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" and "Winona's Big Brown Beaver". The titles say it all!
New sub, dig your work....
There’s a lot. I’m NWA to Slayer with some Kenny G. Open minds and ears. Enjoy the ride, it shorter than ya know 🍺
I don’t know how I just noticed this, but that animation has gotta be John Kricfakusi.
I like Primus, but I was 26 when this song came out and I KNEW that any man who said "say behbeh" in our first interaction was NOT a man who I wanted anything to do with romantically, lol
Their song Jerry Was A Racecar Driver is more pleasing to the ear
