I have had to cook for for a young 35 yr old relative who has brain cancer and diabetes from her CA treatment. So I started eating her diabetic diet with high protein and even less carbs, because I’ve been learning to cook for her. My big belly is gone, lost 15 lbs, my arthritis is improving. Now I need to work on digestion, still an issue.

I absolutely believe this and am trying to change my diet and lifestyle. I am in my 50s so time is critical. Lily and vinoman, you are both partially correct. Plant foods can be whole foods or can also be highly processed garbage. Plants can be inflammatory with lectins and oxalates. Depends on the person. No! The best food for the brain are walnuts (which need to stay refrigerated) and are great snacks in small quantities. Sticking to simple foods that aren't processed adds to the quality of anyone's life. Treat them as hypoglycemic and don't let their blood sugar dip in the afternoon. You'll see more cognitive issues with these dips. 5-6 small meals has shown improvement. Also, learning is a boost along with happy social interactions. Look at memory care day programs, if they are reputable. The best is Opica in West Los Angeles, CA. There may be others around the U.S. but study Opica's model as it's exceptional. Also, there is a high rate of caregivers who care for dementia patients that get dementia themselves. Make sure you're prioritizing self-care. Hyman is not a board certified neurologist nor has he ever contributed any published reputable research studies that could advance dementia at any age. He sells products and this video is an endorsement for products he gets paid to sell. It's all a business to him--in a friendly sort of way. He can afford the best doctors and medical treatment in the world. His bragging about correcting mercury poisoning in this video is not factual. NIH published a study that shows no scientific evidence that the treatment he claims to have "cured" the client of is true. My mother has started to have memory loss. She loves sugar but after hearing your blog I am trying to convince my mother to stop taking sugar. I wanted to find a functional doctor who has experience in memory loss in Chicago. Can you please help?.
Doctor - How do I find a doctor that is smart enough in this area to order this these tests? My Dad died of Lewybody dementia - dementia and Parkinson’s combined. 😢 it was horrible to watch his decline over 10 years. I don’t want this for me or my family. Again if I ask for all those tests I think my doctor would think I’m crazy….. please advise 🙏 Thank you 😊
You could go on line to see if there is a doctor in your area that is training ned in the Bredesen protocol. If you have insurance you should be able to get basic tests to check for prediabetes / diabetes. Also , remove ND your regular doc of your family history of dementia and that should be enough to at least check your thyroid and your B12. Good luck
What’s sad is not being able to afford toxin remedies, like getting old fillings replaced or taking having to pay for blood tests the insurance doesn’t cover or brain supplements. Basic steps we can do. Fine tuning is out of reach for a huge part of the population. What can be done about this?
Are there any functional medicine doctors around the Sacramento, Ca area? I believe everything Dr Hyman is saying but hard to find doctors who treat patients the way he does.
U know what, a nice lunch idea 💡 chopped potatoes, greens beans, chopped tomatoes, great northern beans, salt & pepper to taste, yum & yum absolutely delicious ! 😋 💝

No, I never eat potatoes. My diet has always been high proteins. I do not believe it is what you eat at all. That's an easy cop out by making it our fault. My father had dementia in his 70's and he always ate low carb and sugar. This problem is genetic. I have a friend now, aged 75 who has full blown dementia and he is skinny as a rail.
Dr. Mark Hyman is correct . Listen to the entire video and listen to videos by Dr. Dale Bredesen for more details. The patient Dr. Mark Hyman spoke of that reversed his dementia had a genetic susceptibility and still got better. There multiple reasons you can have dementia including B12 deficiency , low thyroid, too much ETOH, low on healthy fats , heavy metal toxicity. You may be eating any ultraprocessed foods. Check the added sugar on any packaged foods you eat and keep total of added sugars to 25 grams per day. Dementia due to genetic predisposition can be helped but don't wait. Get evaluated by a doctor trained in the Bredesen protocol. Also thin people can still be insulin resistant and diabetic/ prediabetic. Good luck
Doctor Mark! I have autoimmune disease, frontal Fibrosing Alopecia 😢 I just found your videos And I watched old video said could be lime disease . I had lime disease before. Please don't ignore my massage. Can I visit your office.
Function medicine is our future to healthy life however, the insurance companies do not pay for us to see a functional doctor 😢. And only the upper income people can afford it. I appreciate the free videos which I follow and I have benefited immensely. But it is the stress of dealing with a primary doctor once a year who pushes statin drugs and other medications to treat a symptom, instead of the real cause.
My husband always eats lots of sugar all his life and always been pain free life now age 80 has early onset dementia this could be due to the amount of sugar he consumed?

A carnivore diet works: no carb diet…no plants. The body as a caveman was not designed for it. Just my thoughts, although I might throw in some arugula.
Hey doc, you are talking about dementia and Alzheimers. Just like all other docs. Does Parkinson count too ? My father is 80 years old and just diagnosed for it. Is it curable or reversible too just like Alzheimers disease ?
What about PBMT (light therapy) and hydrogen water therapy. Both treatments help regenerate the mitochondria. Emerging research on these two alternative therapies benefit dementia, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
Eight hours sleep?? No way, had chronic insomnia for years though I'm starting to deal with it. My idiot dentist fixed my back molar with amalgam, didn't tell me, won't be going back. Cutting out fish with high mercury content, and trying to deal with health issues (possible glaucoma, the ophthalmologist wasn't clear on that, come back in six months she said), blood pressure going up, lots of anxiety this isn't helping. Sixty six years btw.
Chelation therapy will make all the heavy metals in your body reduced But it takes a lot of sessions I did 65 It took a year and a half My heavy metals were significantly reduced
Organic turmeric, eating 2 whole cloves on an empty stomach, taking Spiruliina, Chlorella, SO MANY WAYS... we make a concoction in a shot glass, juice a a lemon, 1/8 tsp black pepper, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/2 tsp turmeric, add enough extra virgin olive oil to top it off. mix with a fork chug it down. That alone will remove metals and toxins... Blessings
Eat. More. Meat. I'm 75, carnivore for 21 months. I've reversed a long list of things wrong with my health. When I started eating this way I had quit driving because I had such bad brain fog. Now I drive with confidence. I'll never go back to eating those nasty sugars, carbs, seed oils, fruits and veges!

We need real animal fats and natural sugars from fruit, honey, etc. There are several types of sugars. Also you should be eating full fat dairy. Raw milks are actually best from a trusted source.
Processed foods have too much SALT, OIL and SUGAR in them. SOS HELP. People need to contact processed food manufacturers customer service and ask that they reduce the salt, oil and sugar in their products. They need to hear that people want healthier products. It is best to avoid processed foods but for most people that is difficult.
Processed foods are CHEMICALS. Intentionally to make you sick "profit when sick" SALT is good for you, you need it but NOT the white Mortons Table Salt,< that should be banned the bleaching mechanism causes cancer, diabetes AND heart disease as does bleached enriched flours. Celtic Salt and Pink Himalayan are FULL of minerals we need. Most don't know this but Our bones are MINERALS little Calcium but MOSTLY Minerals these two NATURAL SALTS are loaded with them, research health benefits of both. ALL oil other than Organic NON GMO Coconut and Extra Virgin Oil Olive are the only oils I use in our home. Bleached white sugar lick C&H DEADLY. If you bake only use Organic NON GMO Cane Sugar, they taste the same but don't cause harm IN MODERATION as they are not bleached. ALL FAKE SUGARS SHOULD BE BANNED, they cause Brain Cancer and Alzheimer disease. Good rule of thumb if its boxed, canned, Frozen pre fab food, Ice Cream, Packaged. ITS NOT FOOD ITS CHEMICALS. If you can't recognize it, DON'T buy it. What is a Hamburger, thank about it, how about a Hot dog> What is it. NEVER buy Chemicals. BLESSINGS
We should go back to square one : let your food be your medicine. Eradicate the root cause rather than apply a band aid on the problem with drugs that, invariably, bring undesirable effects.
I dont use sugar in my kitchen. I use pure maple syrup .in my coffee. No candy, ice cream or any foods with high sugar content. Avoiding processed food automatically cuts sugar intake.
Maple syrup has minerals and nutrients not found in white table sugar, but it is still sugar and I use it in moderation. If you like sweetened coffee treat yourself to a teaspoon of pure maple syrup instead of sugar in your coffee.

It's a 21st century yoga loving snake oil salesman while promoting his products and other company's products. my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23420-mercury-poisoning

Good luck
This was encouraging and hopeful news.
What’s sad is not being able to afford toxin remedies, like getting old fillings replaced or taking having to pay for blood tests the insurance doesn’t cover or brain supplements. Basic steps we can do. Fine tuning is out of reach for a huge part of the population. What can be done about this?
Cod liver oil caps?

Are there any functional medicine doctors around the Sacramento, Ca area? I believe everything Dr Hyman is saying but hard to find doctors who treat patients the way he does.
Many! Google them in your area!
Thank you for this! Curious if low HDL is a concerning factor?
Yes. And LDL being lower than 99 is important. My dr has me target 70 without medication.

Plant-based foods are beneficial to the brain and may help prevent Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. A decline in brain health is not an inevitable part of aging. But how we eat and live can help us protect our memory and stay sharp into old age.
Thanks for your knowledge Dr. Hyman.
Why oh why don't all Doctors know and treat patients in this manner. Instead of identifying the problem another "pill" is what we are given.
Could you PLEASE provide reference links? It's hard to have the discussion without being able to directly cite these studies.
Yep - and do not get mRna boosters as they do cause neurological problems 😢😢😢

Oh, I wish you were right. I have never eaten much sugar and still don’t, but my memory is fading. I think it’s genetic, like most problems

😢 Do you eat much starchy vegetables?
No, I never eat potatoes. My diet has always been high proteins.
I do not believe it is what you eat at all. That's an easy cop out by making it
our fault.
Good luck

A lot has to do with medications!

A carnivore diet works: no carb diet…no plants. The body as a caveman was not designed for it. Just my thoughts, although I might throw in some arugula.
What's your opinion on astaxanthin as an antioxidant?
Hey doc, you are talking about dementia and Alzheimers. Just like all other docs.
Does Parkinson count too ?
My father is 80 years old and just diagnosed for it. Is it curable or reversible too just like Alzheimers disease ?
What about PBMT (light therapy) and hydrogen water therapy. Both treatments help regenerate the mitochondria. Emerging research on these two alternative therapies benefit dementia, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
I just can't believe that the majority of the population are still eating sugar and processed food. It's a no brainer ;)

Our health care industry likes to waste money on studies that aren't necessary. Thank you, Dr. Hyman, for the common sense solutions.
BLESSINGS
Easier solution: make your own food. ;-)
I quickly figured out that blood sugar was the symptom and that excess insulin was the real problem.

It’s still sugar!
Pure maple syrup is high in sugar!
I do the same the sugar in honey and maple sugar is not the same processed sugar. These sugars are full of nutrients.
@@nm9412 which nutrients?
Maple syrup has minerals and nutrients not found in white table sugar, but it is still sugar and I use it in moderation. If you like sweetened coffee treat yourself to a teaspoon of pure maple syrup instead of sugar in your coffee.
