No matter how we come to it 150g/day of protein is a lot! And a 225 lb person needs 225 g/day. This is when it gets a bit hard to eat it all and the right proportion of fat and not gain weight.
Here are the key takeaways from Dr. Mark Hyman's discussion on the importance of protein for longevity: 1. **Critical Role of Protein**: Protein is the only macronutrient required in large quantities by the body. It's essential for building and maintaining muscle mass, bone structure, and the immune system. 2. **Misconceptions About Dietary Needs**: There is no biological requirement for carbohydrates, and only a minimal need for essential fatty acids from fats. The real need is for a higher intake of quality protein. 3. **Inadequate Dietary Guidelines**: Current dietary guidelines for protein intake are minimalistic and aimed at preventing deficiency diseases rather than promoting optimal health. The actual requirement is likely much higher, especially as we age. 4. **Quality of Protein Matters**: Not all proteins are equal. Grass-fed, regenerative meats, and wild-caught or regeneratively farmed fish are superior sources of protein. Industrial meat, often laden with hormones and antibiotics, is less desirable. 5. **Challenges for Vegetarians and Vegans**: Obtaining adequate protein and essential amino acids, especially leucine, is more challenging with a plant-based diet. It requires careful planning and possibly supplementation. 6. **Protein's Role in Metabolism and Appetite**: Protein helps regulate appetite and metabolism by decreasing the hunger hormone ghrelin and increasing peptide YY. It also has a high thermogenic effect, aiding in weight management. 7. **Increasing Protein Intake**: Aim for 30-40 grams of protein per meal, considering the size of the palm as a guide for portion sizes. Include quality protein sources in your diet, and consider the timing of protein consumption to maximize its benefits. 8. **Recipe for Success**: Incorporating protein-rich meals, like the provided chocolate raspberry smoothie bowl recipe, can help increase protein intake while offering a balanced combination of healthy fats, fiber, and phytochemicals. 9. **Longevity and Muscle Maintenance**: Adequate protein intake is crucial for preventing muscle loss, a significant driver of age-related diseases. As we age, our protein needs increase, making it even more essential to focus on protein consumption. 10. **Critical Thinking About Protein Sources**: It's important to move beyond ideological views on protein sources and focus on scientific evidence, considering the health and environmental impacts of different types of protein. Dr. Mark Hyman shared a recipe for a Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie Bowl. Here are the details: **Smoothie Base Ingredients:** - 1 scoop of H Pharmacy super simple grass-fed chocolate protein - 3/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or Macadamia milk) - 1 cup of baby spinach, loosely packed - 2/3 cup of cauliflower rice (for creaminess) - 1 tablespoon of flax seeds (source of omega-3 fats, lignans, and fiber) - 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon (for flavor and blood sugar regulation) **Toppings:** - 1.5 teaspoons of cacao nibs - 1 teaspoon of hemp seeds - 1 tablespoon of sliced almonds - A handful of raspberries (or any berries/fruits of your choice) **Instructions:** 1. **Prepare the Smoothie Base**: Place all the smoothie base ingredients into a blender. Puree until the mixture is smooth. 2. **Create the Bowl**: Pour the smoothie mixture into a bowl. 3. **Add Toppings**: Sprinkle the cacao nibs, hemp seeds, sliced almonds, and raspberries over the top of the smoothie mixture. 4. **Enjoy**: Your Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie Bowl is ready to eat. Enjoy it with a spoon!

30 mg.(oxidized presumably) cholesterol per serving of the goat milk whey you referred to. My reading sources tell me that oxidized cholesterol is a very harmful substance. I'm wondering if that 30 mg. dose is medically significant.
hyman's protein recommendation is opposite what Dr. Michal Greger recommends in this book(s) How not to die and How not to age. Excess protein is just deaminated, converted to glucose where it is moed to the liver to be stored as fat. Ergo any protein we eat over our required amount of about 70grams is "expensive sugar".
I understand the feed lot meat not being optimum, however, I am not in a place to purchase the grass fed grass finished or organic meat...what I'm doing at present is I'm following a high protein keto/vore type diet with conventional protein which I know has to be better than how I previously ate...standard american...and I'm down 50 lbs.and kept it off for 4 years... and I'm leaving the rest to God....all I can do
Salmon sardines and eggs are usually quite available at a decent standard. They also tend to be quite affordable and great for keto. Salmon ideally wild but sardines are almost as good (more omega-3 less mercury) and tend to be cheaper. Eggs are a complete protein full of choline and b vitamins, which I’m sure you know. "30-40 grams per meal" = So 1.2 ounces of protein per meal? Geez, that doesn't seem like anything especially when you said that we need so much more of it and how important it is...did I figure wrong?
Approx. 7 grams of protein = 1 oz. of protein (for most meats). However only 5 grams of protein one egg. Also, he says it's better to eat 6 oz of fish vs. 4 oz. due to lack of fat in fish. Some fish (mackerel?) has more fat.
I am still a bit sick, but last Tuesday, I only had 1/2 a load, got back from delivers about lunch time, when home & got into bed, & except for water and restroom, didn't get up till Thursday, late morning. Now, watching this vid, I am looking forward to - my wife just bought two more cases of sardines, & I can Invision a can with a couple eggs in a pan of bacon oil... freezing in Sacramento, CA now, so I may have some green onions in the garden, but not much else... I hope you feel that would be an okay breakfast. With all my heart meds & vitamins... Lunch is usually a banana & a sandwich... salami, ham, turkey or all 3... dinner is usually lighter... soup plus somethings small.
Ruminant animal (cattle, sheep) are rotated onto fresh pasture daily instead of staying in one place like a feedlot(grain fed ). By doing this the land has time to heal (regenerate) before the animals are brought back to the same area, usually between 30-60 days. The grass is only trimmed at the top versus being eaten all the way down, plus the manure rebuilds the soil. Think of a fresh salad each day for the animals.
I know people who like to drink protein powder in water with a meal of their choice. You can also find protein in seeds that you can add to salads and sprinkle over foods. Hope this helps!

Dr Hyman. Most of your health wisdom is right on the 'Mark', pun intended. However, your advice on the amount of protein required by the human body is surprisingly off the mark. I'm guessing you've seen the well established literature on the average daily protein requirement for the human body. And it's nowhere near what you mention in this video. The human body, for normal functioning, requires less than 50 grams of protein daily. 35 grams is adequate for most people who aren't performing extensive fitness training. There are dialysis clinics popping up like dandelions in this country, mainly for 1 reason- too much daily protein ruins the kidneys. And it's incorrect advice like yours in this video which is partly to blame. It's almost as if you're in the pocket of the food industry, putting out false info like this. What gives ?
Go vegan for your health, whole food plant based. Go vegan for the animals. Go vegan for the planet. Go vegan and be healthier and happier. A lower risk of heart disease and cancer for you and a better planet for everyone, human and animals. Eating healthy is not a diet it is a healthy life style.

On a serious note, I was worried my 8 egg omelets were over the top.
I have been eating large amounts of meat for over 50 years. I started lifting weights in the early 70's and read that I would need more protein.
Excellent vid❤️🇨🇦
3 different source daily smoked oysters ,chicken and collogen
"30-40 grams per meal" = So 1.2 ounces of protein per meal? Geez, that doesn't seem like anything especially when you said that we need so much more of it and how important it is...did I figure wrong?
Approx. 7 grams of protein = 1 oz. of protein (for most meats). However only 5 grams of protein one egg.
Also, he says it's better to eat 6 oz of fish vs. 4 oz. due to lack of fat in fish. Some fish (mackerel?) has more fat.
Trolls are out heavy!!
Wait a minute Doctor Hyman.....150 grams of MEAT is only 5 ounces, which is nothing! Did you mean to say 150 grams of PROTEIN?
I am still a bit sick, but last Tuesday, I only had 1/2 a load, got back from delivers about lunch time, when home & got into bed, & except for water and restroom, didn't get up till Thursday, late morning. I no longer had the full body ache of the flu, but I still had - & have - the coif & congestion of cold... I should have a day off Wednesday, to see a doc, over a week then... What may this be? Now, watching this vid, I am looking forward to - my wife just bought two more cases of sardines, & I can Invision a can with a couple eggs in a pan of bacon oil... freezing in Sacramento, CA now, so I may have some green onions in the garden, but not much else... I hope you feel that would be an okay breakfast. With all my heart meds & vitamins... Lunch is usually a banana & a sandwich... salami, ham, turkey or all 3... dinner is usually lighter... soup plus somethings small.
Love it, hooray Dr. Hyman!
What is regenerative raised mean?
Ruminant animal (cattle, sheep) are rotated onto fresh pasture daily instead of staying in one place like a feedlot(grain fed ). By doing this the land has time to heal (regenerate) before the animals are brought back to the same area, usually between 30-60 days. The grass is only trimmed at the top versus being eaten all the way down, plus the manure rebuilds the soil. Think of a fresh salad each day for the animals.
Eat more beans.
Who farted?
You need to get the right information out Dr Ken Berry has the correct information
I wish I could force myself to eat sardines😕
Try adding a small dollop of mayo, a good pinch of salt and a splash of balsamic vinegar and mash it all together. ..this was a game changer for us 😊
What if u vegetarian, & can't eat enough , lt wt vegetarian , how ?
150 lbs. How do you get enough protein in 1 meal a day?
I know people who like to drink protein powder in water with a meal of their choice. You can also find protein in seeds that you can add to salads and sprinkle over foods. Hope this helps!
Eat beef
Eat beef
I'm a carnivore I have a eating window of 4 hours. I cook about a half pound hamburger at once, eat then repeat about 4 times. Because I can't eat 2lbs of hamburger at one meal.
Go elsewhere if you want radical info. that's not going to come from Dr. Hyman
Ceylon cinnamon only!
Can't stand smoothies...need savoury bfasts.
Muscle loss? Is it confirmed that having "big" muscles is good for you? I don't think so.
Big muscles is not the opposite of muscle loss. You need muscle, you don't need big bulging muscles...big difference
@@gore-geousmombie4686 True, but Arnold Schwarzenegger has had muscle loss and that is not a problem!
@@Mike-20193 It can be at his age.
@@gore-geousmombie4686 Ha ha, that means you should never try to gain muscle because you might lose it later. A no win situation! He who gains the most muscle stands to lose the most. Hmmm.
For most people it's more realistic to eat plant based protein than the type of meat you advocate ( especially there in USA?)
take some good advice my friend, it's not realistic to your body, gold standard tests show deficiencies and brain DHA does not even exist in plants, another example is plant sterols are significantly less effective.
Eggs sardines and salmon are quite affordable and available at high quality. If you cannot get grass-fed grass finished goat whey, beef or pasture raised chicken , the for mentioned can be great options.
Prayerfully this helps.
Wild-caught fish (salmon, etc.) is best. Dr. H. also mentions regenerative/responsibly farmed fish. I believe he had a link to his farmed fish favorite company. I buy wild-caught, frozen coho and sockeye salmon, at my local organic store.
Terrible breakfast recipe! No offence please :) I prefer 6 eggs forever! lol bacon and eggs even better!
That was my breakfast!
If you think Apeal is okay then I don't want your opinion. You possibly have been given money from the anti-health guys.
Explain

Nothing more disgusting than chocolate with fruit. Don't know how you stand it.

@@russelltate1394some of the ingredients are high in oxalates the flax seeds lower testosterone in males and the sugars seem high the almonds and almond "milk" basically just water is inflammatory and powdered protein is not the best way to get your protein.
First he promoted the “jab” now he took money from Apeel Sciences and promotes Apeel. Brrr , father of functional medicine- no thanks!
I am sick and tired of all these con artists whos only purpose is to attract people by telling ''shocking true'' and make money
He's the head of functional medicine at Ckeveland Clinic so hardly a con artist.
